> The Gift Of Fear by Gavin DeBecker
From that book, Chapter 4:
"Speaking of crossing a park alone, I often see women violating some of nature’s basic safety rules. The woman who jogs along en- joying music through Walkman headphones has disabled the survival sense most likely to warn her about dangerous approaches: her hearing. To make matters worse, those wires leading up to her ears display her vulnerabil- ity for everyone to see."
According to wunderground, at around 7:30 pm, the time she was last seen, it was 79 degrees with 57% humidity. Who's to say how many people are out, but with that weather and an hour of sunlight left, lots of Iowans I know are out in the garden, sitting on the porch, or out for a stroll. She may have been running in a more secluded area though. I find it difficult to believe she was nabbed in any kind of neighborhood.

But I have seen it in libraries. Good point about Jacob's killer. Such a sad story :(
That is correct, I should have said heaviest rain from 3-4 AM according to the link. Wind gusts also.

Stopped ~ 8 AM on 19th according to data
I checked the weather for that day, it looks like heavy rain between 1-5 AM on July 19. Maybe she was struck by a car earlier on the 18th and washed into a culvert/storm drain overnight...that is a terrible thought.
I can see from news maps that there were no tornados in the Brooklyn area. Can someone from the Brooklyn area tell us if the tornado sirens ever went off? Even though there were no tornados in Brooklyn, just north of there in Marshalltown there were several. I looked at Weather Underground for the weather on the 19th. There was a sudden uptick in wind gust and some precipitation at 4:15pm. It seems that they got a milder version of the storm? Need input from a local.
I just remembered that on July 19th there were several tornados during the afternoon! East and southeast of the Des Moines area.
EDIT: weather on the 18th
