No, "solids before one is just for fun" is not true. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting solid foods by 4-6 months. Learning to mash their jaw and swallow solid food is very important to learn and the sooner the better. This is a great link on starting solids:
I have linked the one I use from Amazon. It's a diaper bag backpack with lots of pockets. I don't usually have to use it as a diaper bag but I can use it for that if needed. I love it! Before I got that I used a regular backpack, which worked, but I just wanted more pockets. And I needed to keep my school stuff and my nanny stuff separate.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WT4CFMZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_6Ehi85kCdDj2F
Water beads! OMG these have been great so far. I ordered these for $10 and I will probably order more. They are a lot of fun, and one bag makes SO MUCH.
Here's a couple of photos of the ones I made last night. I put in about half a cup of beads, and it makes so much They are kind of like the stuff that is in diapers, so they expand a TON. The best part is that you can dry them out and use them again another time if you'd like. Some folks on amazon/pintrest talked about how they smell weird after a few days, but that hasn't been my experience. I made sure the container was clean when I made them last time. I ended up leaving them in the trunk of my car for a week (oops) and I expected them to be really gross. They weren't! I did toss them since I didn't want to mess with drying them out this time, but I didn't notice any odor or mold or anything.
I highly recommend this for kiddos old enough to know not to put them in their mouths. My guys are just turning 2 and they do fine with them.
I get a lot of the stuff on Amazon. I use a backpack. Item that has been the most helpful are instant ice packs..for NK but I also gave one once to a random kid at the park that needed one.

I have this First Aid kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X9FMD9W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
I added some sting relief wipes for bee stings. And as mentioned, I also have instant ice packs.
Travel hairbrush, extra hair clips, hand sanitizer, sunscreen. For myself: extra contacts, eyeglasses, floss, chapstick, nail clippers, deodorant wipe, ibuprofen, poo pills..LOL, forget the name..you know, if you go a bunch of times and can't stop...just in case!
Pen, mini pad of paper (from Michaels clearance section) and wallet
On top of wipes I have: germ wipes (for cleaning down tables we may eat on) and hand/face wipes (NK's skin is a little sensitive) also Wysi towels..which I have never used and boogie wipes (only carry these when she is sick)
Water cup, snacks (rice rollers, Belvita blueberry biscuits, squeeze tube of applesauce or Cheerio's)
A few little toys, some dollar tree plastic toy spoons for quick trips to the park when I don't want to dig out a ton of sand toys
A very small thin blanket and jacket. When we go somewhere I grab an extra pair of pants and shirt..just in case!
Aw I love that! I sometimes sing Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol to my little guy :)
And shameless plug, I wrote a whole album of original lullabies for my former NK this year. If you want to take a listen it’s up on Spotify!
In nyc I usually go with these leggings which are super inexpensive but bomb, tshirt, quarter-zip (usually from h&m). In the winter, doc Martin’s, and in the summer, swap leggings for sports shorts and docs for running sneakers.
I just buy cheap backpacks on Amazon. The kids helped me pick the last one after my first bit the dust. They're cheap so I don't feel bad tossing it around or setting it in the dirt at the park. I get one with lots of pockets so I can keep things organized. I prefer a backpack because I don't want to worry about a bag sliding off my shoulder while i'm trying to manage 4 kids.
This is the cheapo I have now. It's lasted well over a year of heavy use every weekday.
My MB bought this one for me to use:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Contours-Options-LT-Tandem-Stroller-Crimson-Red/21173001
What I love: Independent reclining seats and that the seats can be moved to several different positions (facing each other, both facing forward, etc.)
What I hate: huge, bulky and heavy.
Wish I had more info. for you, but this is the first time I have had to use a double stroller.
Your post isn't going to get many views, especially in this weekly thread. Even if it was on the main page it probably wouldn't do you much good.
On the sidebar in the FAQ, there is a list of good places to search for a nanny. Places like: care.com, sittercity.com, Urbansitter, craigslist.com, Facebook, and nextdoor.com
Good luck!
Check this out, it can form to the head or behind the ears so no water in ears or eyes!! They come in different colors also.
It's not Montessori methodology to let children terrorize others! Wow these parents take the cake!
Please show the NF this slide show where it shows how Montessori methods are used for aggressive children! https://www.slideshare.net/ellaboi/montessori-approach-to-behavioral-disorders *Pay close attn. to this bit - Classroom Suggestions in Keeping with the Montessori Method: a) IV. c) Arrange opportunities for the child to learn and practice appropriate responses (Ie, showing models engaging in appropriate behavior: TIME-OUT)
I’ve been a nail biter on & off my entire life and this type of nail polish is the only thing that helps me. I’m not sure how safe it is when it comes to ingredients, especially for kids. This brand has been the “cleanest” I’ve found. It should work for thumb sucking!
ella+mila"No More Biting" | Stop Finger Nail Biting & Thumb Sucking | For Kids & Adults | Bitter Tasting Nail Polish | Helps With Healthy Nail Growth https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083G9YDD6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GFKCWPNCZBP7285XEH5G
Cloud dough is taste safe: flour and vegetable oil, that's it! I gave it to NK with sand toys (lots of recipes online)
Another taste-safe one is aquafaba (liquid from chickpeas whipped with cream of tartar) Given with spoons to mix, measuring cups, toy whisk, etc.
Giant Water Beads (this link is what I bought, they are unavailable, but they will give you an idea of what I'm talking about) Put in a large bin with scoops
We have also done: colored rice, colored pasta and beans
On hot days: large chunks of frozen ice with toys, pom-poms or other goodies in them
Call in and go to urgent care asap! You sound like you need an antibiotic. If you do decide to go in then go to urgent care right after as they are generally open until 7pm. Hope you get better quickly! I do want to make a suggestion though. There is a homeopathic antibiotic that I absolutely swear by. You take 2 four times a day like you would an antibiotic. I have several sinus infections a year as well as strep throat and it clears up every time with it. I keep it on hand so I don't have to call out.
Dr. Christopher's X-INFX 100 caps (2 pack) 440mg each https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MXXWH48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_SGQ3ZVV4J0QD40RNVGP6
These leggings are my absolute favorite! They are cute, comfy, and they have pockets! I think I own like 6 pairs now. Highly recommend!
Amazon Essentials Women's Studio Relaxed-Fit Lightweight Crewneck T-Shirt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FFHMLM5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_N6Q8N0MC429BB47TSA74?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 my fav work shirts. Good length, not too heavy and cheap. I wear them with leggings and a sweatshirt or cardigan depending on my mood.
I have linen pants from Old Navy like these:
https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=551155052&vid=1#pdp-page-content
I also wear these with a form fitting shirt(it just looks more out together)
These are my favorites because they have pockets and they are comfy. I wear leggings under the linen pants during the winter. They are great and airy for summer!
I'm working from home, with the playground closed since Covid started (they reopened for like maybe a week before they shut back down) This is the best thing I have purchased: swing
If you are in a bad covid area, and your NPs have room for it, I highly reccomend getting them to buy one.
My NK will swing so long I had to put a chair next to it :P
I can't get my dreads that wet w chlorine water, so I use a swim cap. Amazon has several cute options - https://www.amazon.com/Qishis-Butterfly-Printing-Silicone-Swimming/dp/B00M3YB3IE/ref=sr_1_15?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1491666018&sr=1-15&keywords=swim+cap+women
Keep singing! A good suggestion for her mom might be some of the raffi books so you can sing as you read!
There’s a bunch!
Oh man! Lice is the absolute worst! My last NF went through many, many rounds of it. We learned from the school nurse that lice have adapted in such a way that Nix doesn’t kill them anymore 🤢 What worked the best was a homeopathic treatment called Quit Nits and a really durable lice comb. I hope you don’t get it, but it can be managed pretty well if you do pick it up. You have to treat everything! Stuffies in a trash bag for two weeks, everything else washes and dried on hot. You have to vacuum the car seats, backpacks, coats, hats. I also found that washing the bedding (hot/hit) daily for the first few days helped a lot. Good luck!
https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Treatment-Shampoo-Preventative-Necessary/dp/B004I726GM
I love these! They're very high quality. Not see through, no underwear lines so long as you aren't wearing granny panties.

Not great for high intensity workouts where you sweat a lot- but perfect for running around with kiddos or strength training/yoga
I had a part time nanny who was starting with a Jewish family and told me the same thing about their microwave situation. They thought about providing her another microwave to use but purchased one of these for her, so I think it worked out.
Is it coming directly off her phone??
I’m here to solve your problem…..you need this…..
It’s SUPER common for kids to address female caregivers this way. Almost every language has the word for mother includes an M sound.
My MB made this with pictures of family and friends, including pictures of herself and DB. NK loves it, especially as a baby & toddler. She’s 6 now and so it’s being passed on to the new baby.
Aside the crazy nap schedule, please talk to your MB about this.
As a nanny who frequently gets overstimulated, my noise cancelling headphones were godsends, especially because I too take public transportation and there's nothing worse than finishing your day, getting on the subway and there's a toddler screaming.
Mine are amazing:
But they are very expensive (they were a gift). If you have some money saved up I would 100% invest, as they have single handedly improved the quality of my day to day life, but I'm sure there's some less expensive ones that are very good too.
Basically for my son I waited until he was letting me know that he had to go. We did it at 18 months and he was fully potty trained by 24 months. My daughter took a little longer and was potty trained at 3 years.
The child has to tell you when they are wet and have to go. If they are able to articulate that they have to go then they are ready. It also worked because he would come in the bathroom when we were on the potty and started being interested with why were there. We also didn't use a potty except for on road trips. We used a seat that fit over the toilet.
We did potty training in one weekend for each kid using big kid underpants that they bought themselves. Because they were ready it was super easy and electronic are not good for bribing. No pull ups or potty training pants except at nights. We did have potty training books and videos before that weekend though. Both kids loved the elmo potty training book and would use the sound effects when they were on the potty.
I had this one that was awesome:
https://www.amazon.com/Richell-Aqulea-straw-Navy-190ml/dp/B01CDS5308
it has a soft spot that you press on to get the water to go up the straw a little. It is kind of the reverse method that qfrotine_esq described (holding your finger over the straw)
Like already mentioned - honey bear cup.
I tried to avoid it, because I didn't want yet another product for my own kid, especially one that wasn't going to be particularly useful outside of just learning how to suck from a straw (they aren't spillproof, so not something I'd want to be using regularly).
Well, after several months of no luck with any other straws, I paid for the stupid honeybear cup. https://www.amazon.com/Special-Supplies-Squeezable-Assistive-Container/dp/B086J188MD/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=292MOJ9D2VPXN&keywords=honeybear&qid=1660144287&sprefix=honeybear%2Caps%2C230&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1
Used it twice with my daughter and then she completely understood how to use a straw, never had to use the honeybear again.
So yeah, my advice is to have the parents eat the $9 and buy the honeybear.
So not directly related but I wanted to drop a link below on a book that could really help some NP’s set rules around screen time. There are so many studies out there to sift through and this book really dives into those.
https://www.amazon.ca/Art-Screen-Time-Balance-Digital/dp/1610396723
https://www.amazon.com/Our-Solar-System-Amazing-figures-ebook/dp/B01129B7I6
This is a simple book about planets for kids. Might be a good learning experience.
My kids like this one. Kid’s Guide to Life with Food Allergies.
4 out of the 5 of us in our house have food allergies (a bunch of common and uncommon allergies) so I can sympathize.
If the family is Christian I love the book What Do I Do With Worry by Dr. Josh & Christi Straub! It talks about naming your feelings and coping with anxiety (but does include God which is why I said if they’re Christian 🙂)
My Shadow is Pink tells the story of a little boy who has a secret. He is not like his dad, who has a blue shadow, his is quite different - it is pink! He is happiest when he is playing with things that are considered "not for boys" like ponies, fairies, princesses and pink toys.
MB - https://www.amazon.com/Folding-Travel-Toilets-Non-Slip-Suction/dp/B07MTRHDXZ/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2CA3XW7PCFRGX&keywords=potty+seat&qid=1655995262&sprefix=potty+seat%2Caps%2C58&sr=8-9 This is what we carried around when my daughter was too little to be comfortable on a big seat, it goes right on top and just makes it more comfortable. We also have this one, it's a little bigger and heavier https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Tot-2-Potty-Travel/dp/B0771FFJ22/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=oxo+travel+potty&qid=1655995322&sprefix=oxo+tra%2Caps%2C54&sr=8-5 but you also have the option to use it freestanding and there are bags to catch the pee / poop that you then can throw out. Maybe ask your NF to buy one of these if you think it will work
I've got this one! Because of my aforementioned trampy one piece collection, lol [this is my "conservative" one]. They're good quality!
Great point but there are stuffed animals that have stuff like this buckle whale
I'm an early childhood special education teacher:
https://www.merrittcarseat.com/chest-clip-guard/
Houdini Stop Car Seat Chest Clip Lock l Anti Escape Seat Harness for Car Seat, Strollers, and Highchairs l Keep Your Child Safe and Secure l Seat Strap Made in NZ-Single Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098D6P2N4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_FPTVN4DAH7CEJBM78ADV
There are many other versions as well!
They have some like this that go up the arm a little bit so they're pretty hard to get off if you strap them on tight. I've also seen getting the child into a seat completely (harness completely on) then putting a zip/button up hoodie or t-shirt on them backwards so they can't reach the buckle. It sounds tricky if they're tight enough in their seat, but it might work for your purposes in the short term.
I full on ugly cried while reading this book Angela’s Christmas and the kids who were sitting on my lap were like, “WTF is wrong with you?” I’m not even Christian but this little girl helping the baby Jesus just knocked me for a loop. Truly pathetic. 😂😂😂
They have swim capris/leggings/bike shorts and then the UV swim shirts can be matched with it to be completely clothed and able to dry quick. Wear any kind of swim top under it as a bra? Or one of those soft cup no wire bras with wide straps. Kinda like a sports bra but with a u-shaped back and just thin material? I'll add a link.
There is a touching book by Nancy Tillman, Wherever You Are, My Love Will Find You. While this story doesn't specifically mention death, it's a warm and wonderful reassurance that a parent's love is forever.
An acquaintance of mine, when her diagnosis became terminal, recorded a video of herself reading this book to her four-year-old son. He's eight now, and I'm told that whenever things are rough for him he returns to this video.
If you'd like to check out the contents of the book, there's a lovely narration on YouTube.
This is the most amazing backpack in all of existence - a million pockets so can carry a ton of stuff, really sturdy material, affordable, big enough to carry my 17 in laptop, and deep water bottle side pockets. seriously every single morning I think "wow I love my backpack" lol
My favorite is the Himawari large. Forgive me I might be spelling that wrong but it’s amazing. It’s a bit pricy but I’m in love with it. Even fits a pack of baby wipes in the front zipper pocket. I’ve had it since the befginning of this year and it’s lasted. That’s saying a lot because backpacks never last this long for me as I’m a bit rough with them.

If you are going to be in the pool with her, she is the ONLY child in your care and you will be hands in with her the entire time, she is better off without a flotation device. I have been a lifeguard and taught swim lessons and children learn to swim best without wearing something that keeps them afloat. Especially something like a puddle jumper that puts their body in a position (vertical) that is not normal to swimming which is done horizontally.
If you are responsible for other children and can not have both hands and eyes on her at all times then it’s important to have her in something. I recommend this one for most natural positioning and learning.
Even though there are coast guard approved puddle jumpers, they are for open water not pools. They teach children how to get into the drowning position per safety experts. If my nanny asked me to put my child in a puddle jumper I would be disappointed because i feel they are unsafe and it would make me question my nanny’s judgment. Sorry, I don’t mean to be harsh, this is something I’m passionate about.
I’d recommend something like this. This is my fave little kid life jacket.

I have two of these and switch around the top and bottom. They cover well while allowing me to work on my tan lol
I wouldn’t use food reinforcements bc it can create a negative relationship with food, but she may just not be ready, and it’s no good for anyones mental health to try and continue and push it, try it again in a month. But if you’re adamant on continuing (which nothing wrong with that) just remember the oh crap method isn’t for everyone and it’s honestly unrealistic it’s definitely not something I personally recommend bc no one especially toddlers are going to be perfect at anything after 3days, try getting a potty watch like the one i linked, it gives reminders every 15-60 minutes (you can set it to whichever y’all want) but remember potty training is a marathon not a sprint it takes awhile

See the book The Gift of Fear and here
This is what I do daily anytime I don't feel 100% or someone else is sick. Since I started this routine I rarely get sick. I run a home daycare and have 6 different families in and out of the house. I also wash my hands, sanitize, & disinfect like crazy.

Many nannies (or at least I do) have a fave list of toys or brands they like. I personally like the products from Hape, Fat Brain Toys, PlanToys, Lego, Magnatile, Tegu, and FisherPrice.
At this point though it is often best to add to your home as your child grows and what is right for their age/developmental stage.
I would expect a child 0-4 months to love textures, lights, movement, and black, red, and white patterns (bc only color they see now).
Baby Paper is awesome for infants https://babypaper.com
This toy is great and my NKs are 2 and 4 and love it. I came here to say that I struggle with chub rub too, and I’ve tried loads of things but the only thing that worked was Chamois Butt’r! I got it at Amazon and it legit saved my life. I use it for work, I’ve used it at the beach, at hikes, you name it! I bought this one and it’s been months and I still have like 95% of the container left because you really don’t need that much!
Chamois Butt'r Eurostyle Anti-Chafe Cream, 8 ounce jar https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C69L6K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WND2TMMD16ME16HBWVB1
I’ve been actually looking for ideas for the summer too! I run hot in the summer, feel extremely sluggish and have an awful time so I need breezy, comfy, breathable style of clothes! If anyone has any tips I’m here for it! I’m lucky that my NF couldn’t care less if I wear shorts so I do it A LOT, DB is a sweetheart and super respectful and MB is really cool and has no problems with it either. She even jokes around that me and 22mB run hot and get each other. I’ve recently purchased the OFFLINE Throwback Fleece Short and they’re comfy and don’t feel hot!
I’ve worn a bikini in the past, soemthing like a sports bra shape and higher waisted bottoms. I’ve also got a short sleeve swim suit similar to this one https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09V18YZKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BMMB14PF39F9G24H8EVQ
Wow, that’s intense! The only tips I have, that weren’t already mentioned (like this seems extreme and unnecessary and a surgical mask should be good enough alone) is suggesting a face shield + a single mask or even a face shield alone + temperature checks (I really think little ones need to be able to see our entire faces as often as possible), having them blast the AC in the house (I masked for 3 weeks at my job when I started. NK was 2.5 months old and I came from a job working with school aged children and one unvaccinated NP, and so did my current NP’s - one is an ER doctor by the way. We’re in Miami and it’s pretty much always warm here and the AC was set to a few degrees cooler so we could be comfortable.) Or a mask bracket like these that should help with keeping the surgical mask further away from your face thus improving airflow and helping with the mask wetness https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NZXQKNH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FCHJ3N2CYVHVG5PG9P0M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is one of the most promising ones I found. The biggest complaint is that it smells a bit herbal until it’s dried. Reviews seem to say it doesn’t cause oiliness that may be typical from them. It’s only medium hold, but that should be okay enough for keeping some of it out of NKs face if it’s tamed down a bit?

Also this video has some no clip/no hairtie styles. A couple may work for NKs hair (if suitable of course) depending on length. I watched through and may try a few myself.

You can get teethers that you can put in the freezer or fridge. Yup, I have done that (same as your video)
You could probably fine them cheaper, but these cups are awesome! I had one for current NK. You can press on the top, it's pretty much the same idea as what they do in the video.
This might be best for the 5 year old as it's a really simple book, but there's a book called "Am I small?" which has both English and almost any other language you can think of-- there are hundreds of versions of this book. Here is the French version (it's the first one I saw lol):
My kiddo got it at 7 months using this.
Hey MB, another awesome nanny let me know about this awesome climber that is affordable, super sturdy, and easy to put together. Her 2.5y NK loves it :P
Seriously though, I actually did buy it, and it is great. I put a ball pit in the center for them to fall into
Knee length shorts and tshirts Dresses with built in shorts under (think Halara) Baggy linen Overalls (here’s where I buy mine Lghxlxry Women's Casual Wide Leg Bib Overalls Baggy Harem Pants Rompers Jumpsuit with Pockets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XF4B935/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_0XD6TTENXP8CYGWZFKR5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 (keep in mind they run small. I’m a 2X usually and to have it a little baggy- I buy 5X))
Capri leggings and baggy shirts (do the French tuck if you want a more pulled together “professional” look)
One piece - semi high neck- bathing suit if kids & I are swimming, or I’ll wear the bathing suit and some mid-thigh length shorts for water play (water guns, water balloons, running through sprinklers)
If we have a day out and I know I won’t be on the floor crawling with them I’ll wear a maxi dress / maxi skirt with a high neck bramisuit (link to brami suit - https://shop.app/p/6803206176830 ) and I’ll throw a pair of biker shorts under the maxi dress/ skirt just in case NK decides to be a stink and lift my dress
My 2.5 year old was starting to shorten his naps to 30min - 1 hr. He'd be on edge as soon as he woke up, and often would just need to be held while he cried until he could be distracted. There were 2 issues:
(1) He's frequently some level of constipated. He'd wake up due to needing to poo. Introducing 1 tsp of miralax in a juice/water mix with his breakfasts has made it so that he is now able to poo when not sleep-adjacent. (I assume sleeping helped him relax enough to get some movement happening before.)
(2) His room was bright because we moved to a place where blackout blinds are impractical. He did fine for a long while despite this, but putting his bed in a tent made a huge improvement once he started having issues. But most rooms can just use blackout curtains.
I find that a foam mat like this one Baby Care Play Mat - Haute Collection (Medium, Moroccan - Beige) - Play Mat for Infants – Non-Toxic Baby Rug – Cushioned Baby Mat Waterproof Playmat – Reversible Double-Sided Kindergarten Mat https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07DS449CY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_BFJZ37STWXVG6ERZFAC3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 and a boppy help a lot and are almost essential. You also want baby to have those little slips it helps with their coordination, obviously in a safe environment. I would never put a baby on a hardwood floor but that’s just me.
I bought my baby a playnest when he was learning to sit up. It is this inflatable tube covered in activities and the insides are in the shape of a triangle so you can prop them in the corner. If they fall over then they can rest on the side of the tube and still be able to play

I hope you see this in all these comments lol. Falling is normal nanny can’t catch every one but they sell these like backpack pillows on Amazon that recent baby from hitting their head. I buy them for every kid I know and nanny. I would like others have said buy a foam playmat or rug.

Every time you call dad to step in, it breaks the authority and trust he has in you in that moment to handle his big emotions.
I just put external locks that match the color of our dresser - much easier for us and come off easily with some oil. I use similar locks but a different color for the trash can. For the door, I use the “door monkey” below. I agree, the first few years of life is just keeping them alive and running after them stopping them from injuring/killing themselves! I linked the products I’ve used, but there are a ton of different strategies. I would just pick the one that works best for you and your family!

Read through Why Does He Do That? by Lindy Bancroft. This is a link to the pdf. Flip through to the chapter that reminds you of him. I also struggled with over empathizing with people who treat me like crap. No person is completely bad, I’m sure there are parts you love about him, but when it starts negatively affecting your confidence and ability to determine what’s true and not true, and whether you can trust your judgment on things, his presence in your life is a net negative.
I'd consider myself a "moderately granola" mom. I read about EC when I was pregnant with my first and thought it was waaaaay out there and something I'd never attempt. But by the time my newborn was 2 months old I realized she had a tendency to either poo as we were changing her or just after we put a fresh diaper on her--annoying!! But it seemed like she had some kind of control/perception when she was soiled. So I bought a top hat potty and gave it a try. I was amazed, she took to it right away!! We put her on it anytime we would normally change her diaper, so it didn't add a lot of extra time to our day (before/after waking, before/after getting in car seat, after feeding, etc.)
From 2 months until she started eating solids around 6 months, I think I changed maybe a dozen poopy diapers. It is soooooo much easier to swirl a little water in the potty and flush then wipe a blowout diaper.
All this to say: it's not as weird or scary as it might sound!! Check out r/ECers or godiaperfree.com before assuming it's crazy hard or a dealbreaker. Obviously it depends on the family too, we were pretty laid back about it and figured every "caught" poo or pee was one less diaper and a step towards an easier time potty training when the time came. We also didn't do it full-time; if we were out or had a sitter, we didn't worry about and relied on the diaper.
I teach 2 year old preschool. I bought this pack for when their own masks got too wet. They fit tiny faces well. Not adjustable. But, that has not been an issue. Plus, kids who were giving us a problem keeping them on seemed to like them better. But, that could be because I tell them how wonderful they look. 😉 I’m hoping links are allowed.

I use these pouches to hold almost everything, from small characters to paint brushes.
Binders and folders for paper things.
I keep my Kintetic Sand in old lysol or metamucil containers (washi tape to make it look cute). Plastic shoe boxes for playdoh & accessories.
I have a section in my house dedicated to all my supplies. This is how I store them.
I got the kids these reversible octopus plushies for when they don’t want to talk about feelings
TeeTurtle | The Original Reversible Octopus Plushie | Patented Design | Light Pink + Light Blue | Happy + Angry | Show your mood without saying a word! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H48YNJ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NNPWKV39RRQA593V6E85
I have some tried and true overalls. They’re from Amazon and take like a month to get here (I’m a 2x and I order a 5x so sizing is weird - here’s the link Lghxlxry Women's Casual Wide Leg... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XF4B935?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share ) but usually overalls with a crop underneath, legs rolled up with some vans is my go to nanny uniform. If I’m feeling really bummy I’ll wear leggings and hoodies, but on days like today where I wake up feeling like a bad bitch, I curled my hair, put on some light coverage foundation and mascara, & im wearing some boot cut jeans with vans and a tank top. My MB is mega feminist. NK (LG 1.5) room and play room is covered in Women’s march posters and drawings of influential women (Beyoncé, Hilary Clinton, Serena Williams. RBG, etc) I know MB is the last person to think that what I’m wearing effects my ability to provide amazing childcare. & I’ve never worked for 2 parents who love each other so much so their marriage is very secure I don’t worry about what DB might think of my clothes.
Side note I totally feel this is why being a plus size nanny has also helped me land some amazing jobs lol . Nothing eye catching about a really chubby nanny with asthma that has to mouth breath 😂😂😂

I upgraded to this bag earlier this year, and I LOVE it. I have 2 NKs, a toddler and an infant, and I can fit all the stuff I need for them, plus a full change of clothes and all my stuff in it no problem. Love all the extra pockets and such, and the “pacifier” holder is perfect for AirPods!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FB4P9FR/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_E9ban1AYIAbsK
I LOVE THIS BAG. If opens up so many different ways and fits so much stuff. The back side opening is my absolute favourite because when the backpack is filled with toys/clothes/diapers/food/clothes I can still reach in and get to the stuff shoved down to the bottom easily. Would buy this a million times. I've had it about 2 years and it hasn't even started to show signs of wear and tear. Also bonus is that it comes with a way to charge your devices via backpack
I attached the bag I was using. I loved it, just warning if you have a big dog that likes to tear things up, one morning I woke up to find that the dogs mission was to destroy my bag. I can still use it, but the stroller straps are broken, I just haven't repaired it yet.

I would recommend magnet cabinet locks. 2 families I worked for had layouts where it wasn’t possible to put up gates to keep little ones out of the kitchen. The magnet locks are awesome - you can even flip a lever to keep them unlocked if needed.
You may need to explain further... do you mean a mirror to see the child in their car seat? And you need the one that attaches somewhere to your dash, so you can see the mirror behind you without turning around?
If so, Jolly Jumper Driver's Baby Mirror https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BHM0BEY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_99PT8NDZP7907ANNZ4SA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I am super excited to do this with my NK. You can buy these tumblers from Amazon. They have a double wall that you can insert pictures or papers between. I'm planning on getting the kids to color on papers and include a cute picture of their family for each parent.

I used to sit for a family that also had legos all over the place, this was a life saver, the kids didn’t mind cleaning them up because they just had to put them on the mat!

My best lice advice:
• You need a better lice comb. Get the Terminator. The lice kit I linked has one included, but it’s not good enough.
• After shampooing, coat your hair in conditioner.
>- Use the Terminator to comb through.
>- Have a washcloth handy to wipe off the nits and lice.
>- Comb through twice. Focus on the crown/back of head area, that’s where they like to hide.
• Clean everything. Change and wash your sheets daily. Vacuum the mattress and couch daily. New shower towel every time
Do you have anyone close to you who could help you do the first comb through? If they keep their hair pulled back in a bun and change/wash their clothes as soon as they go home, there is a low chance of them catching it.
I am a nanny who loves fashion and I struggle with this all the time! I’m like, what is professional but still comfortable and practical enough to hang out with kids in, AND cute enough for my standards. It’s gotten hot in the area of the USA I live in too, progressively more each summer too.
My essentials are:
-5” inseam linen shorts, from old navy or madewell when they have sales. I’m not sure what your availability for those brands is like in Aus, but I also got a pair from Amazon’s brand in green, which are now only available in grey and yellow it looks like but SO comfy. I’m taller so they are appropriate on me, though may be longer than necessary on others. Amazon’s Shorts
-basic crew neck tees in vibrant colors that appeal to kids like pastels, which can also be great for hot weather
-sometimes I get high waisted shorts specifically so I can wear cute crop tops with no midriff showing! Tbh as the trends are mostly cropped right now it can be hard to find cute non-cropped tops :(
-athletic shorts and an oversized tee is always my go to on hot days which will mostly be spent indoors or in the backyard. It’s just so easy!
-If you are comfortable in them, sundresses are the best for hot weather! I opt for spaghetti-strapped designs with a midi length, and will often pair with a denim jacket in the mornings when it’s cooler.
I hope these were somewhat helpful, I’m sorry I’m not familiar with what brands are available in Australia or I’d have more specific concepts!
Talk to the parents. I also recommend this book Let's Talk About Body Boundaries, Consent and Respect: Teach children about body ownership, respect, feelings, choices and recognizing bullying behaviors
