hey tiki! I actually just programmed this out myself using an app I designed. If you wanna check it out, you can play back my programming on your setup: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyclub.cyclubspotify
Im actually looking for testers right now who can try it out and give me feedback. If you were hoping to create some of your own custom programming, I’m working on a UI that will allow Nanoleaf users to create their own cues and scenes.
edit: and thank you for the silver!! bless up
Nanoleaf's own app is free on both iOS and Android You can test the orientation before you put it to the wall.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.nanoleaf.nanoleaf
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/nanoleaf-smarter-series/id1049333656
There's IFTTT support, meaning you can create scripts that react to a variety of triggers (has a slight delay ~2-3 seconds).
And there's a Nanoleaf plug-in for Stream Deck with which you can also control it (there's also am IFTTT plug-in for Stream Deck).
Something like the wemo stage, particularly if it gets thread support, or flic button could be used for that.
I'm using a 3.5mm to 2-RCA adapter audio stereo cable. Plugged in to the "Pre Out Front" channel on the back of my AV receiver. My computer is plugged into my TV via HDMI. My TV is connected to the AV receiver via HDMI arc. The AV receiver is for my 5.1 audio system.
hey troublemaker thanks! I made all these commands from scratch, albeit heavily inspired by this scene from “Close Encounters of the Third Kind:” https://youtu.be/wZj7gUIO-2k
If you’d like to try this out on your setup, please do! I’m actively looking for users to test this out so I can gather feedback and fix bugs… here’s the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyclub.cyclubspotify
If you’d like to test out more of the catalog, pm me and I’ll get you a code that will get you access to all the programming for a month.
I’ve used the two-part Command Strips intended for picture frame mounting to mount my Aurora. They’re a little like Velcro, but rigid. They are available in a narrow version that looks like it’ll fit perfectly, but I used the ordinary ones instead. Amazon UK link: Command Small Picture Hanging Strips, 4 pairs - white https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00016ZLDY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yhVvBbXG1SN7H
I fitted three strips per panel, one in each corner, and they’re holding very solidly, no concerns there. They’re also easy to remove, as long as I’m careful about the link chips.
I could probably get away with a single strip per panel if it was at the topmost corner, but that would be awkward on panels pointing downwards. Or I could cut strips in half to produce something like the narrow version that would fit along panel edges.
This isn’t a very cheap solution, but it’s a good one otherwise: easy, strong, reliable, removable, and reusable.
I had the same problem, ended up using one of these, slow and steady.
https://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Icing-Spatula-13-Inch-Angled/dp/B00F0A6FYU
good luck.
I bought some of these magnets - I learned afterwards that I should have bought them twice as strong as I did, because in the end, I had to double up on them (6 magnets per panel instead of 3). You should be able to easily find some like this.
For the whiteboard sheet, that's a little more tricky. I did a bunch of research and ended up finding a local (in Denmark) company that does metal siding, roofing and, apparently also whiteboard-treated metal sheets.
I do have a small nanoleaf setup on my balcony that just uses a regular cheap whiteboard I bought, and that's fine. But for bigger patterns/setups, you'll probably want to do some digging and see if there are any local-ish companies that sell this kind of stuff.
I am jealous. For your pixel art I can recommend you https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nanoleafshapes You can set custom animations, so the wall you gonna have (again, I'm jealous) will look good. For the problems. I had not that much (owner for ~5 years now, 3 sets), if there's an update you get some. But just waiting a few days and mine were always gone. Had to hard reset them around two times cause I didn't want to wait.
Yeah Moonlight is open source actually! Assuming you have an Android TV as I don't think the app is available for Samsung Tizen.
You'll want to do some research on how to set it up properly but it's pretty straight forward. As simple as enabling Shield GameStream in Geforce Experience, and running Moonlight on the TV.
Edit: you'll want to be sure you have a good router too so it doesn't drop frames.
thanks! I programmed out these lighting cues using an app I made called “LightLink.” I’m currently in the testing phase… so if youve got some panels, id love to know what you think and get some feedback for improving it.
LightLink: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyclub.cyclubspotify
Here’s what you need in order to play back the show:
1.) Nanoleaf panels (either Aurora, Canvas, or Shapes)
2.) Spotify Premium account
3.) An Android or Chrome device
4.) A non 5G wifi network
If you decide to try it out, lmk how it goes. I’ll be here for support/any questions
I can definitely recommend this stuff, but be warned, it is VERY STRONG!
Kind of halfway between a solid and a liquid, or maybe more like strips of rubber cement on steroids. I've found tons of uses for it, just try to get the application right the first time.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083C5WXWV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_CMNP1M216H90RD8XA2JY
If I were to do to it again I would get magnets that were a little smaller. There is a slight overlap where the magnet is mounted and where the connectors go. Overall still more flexible than mounting it directly to a wall.

Yeah I feel you. I was looking into a wireless 3.5mm transmitter and receiver to plug into the output of my sonos bridge and then plugging receiver into the rhythm module to improve response time without running a long wire. Theoretically the one below would work as long as your home theater system allows additional output. For now it wasn't worth testing the idea for then available wireless transmitter/receivers I found on Amazon. I can't justify $50 to remove a few ms of delay
It would be nice if there was a Nanoleaf solution for it since depending on the shape of the room and placement of speakers it might only pick up partial sound.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OPVWHRY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Jw16Cb2V462SA
Based on this post by /u/htmlcinco, I would estimate that the product you are looking for is this Laser Stars Twilight Projector, most recently seen for sale on Amazon for $105.99 with a Prime subscription.
Note: Beep boop bop. I am not a bot. I am merely a person way too amused in his own shenanigans.
I actually bought some UHU Patafix glue pads. They’re little sticky globs that you can put behind them and they actually work well. I made sure to put at least 3 behind each panel. Pretty cheap too.
Not sure if it’s okay to link but here it is anyway:

Edit: I bought these for my 15 triangle panels.

Interesting. Is there some magic happening inside this transformer to make that happen? This looks like the dumbest of dumb transformers... and I always thought overloading these things was... not good. (Admittedly, my knowledge of circuits is "barely enough to be barely dangerous".)
I suppose I should stop beating around the bush, here -- the only thing that prompted me to buy the Nanoleaf starter kit is the controller. It's the only Homekit/Thread controller I'm aware of that can do RGBWW. I really want to throw everything else away, and just use the controller with another strip (this one). I'll buya new transformer to accommodate the more power-hungry strip, but my concern was whether I'd run into any problems with the controller. What can the controller handle? That's why I was trying to understand what happens when you extend your starter strip to 10M. If the controller could handle 115W, then it could certainly handle what I was going to throw at it!
But it sounds like that's not the case. So now I'm back to: "How can I tell what this controller is capable of?" Can I throw any 12V power supply at it regardless of amperage and be okay?
I've tried to track it down in the past too. I believe it's real lamp, but it's hard to find that exact design. Here's something similar - search for "industrial" table or desk lamps to find others.
If you don't mind your nanoleafs becoming a permanent feature of your house, use this
Nanoleaf App is showing my essentials as connected using thread network.
Thethread commisioning App for Android show Nest hub 2nd. as tread border router.
Wipe ur eyes cuz i am here :D
I also have texture wallpaper and i use Nanotape
All my nanoleafs still hangs after 1 year.
This tape is good. Nanotape for nanoleafs ;) Makes sence :D
Thats why you use Nanotape for nanolife..makes sence right :D

Im using this and it sticks..might dasmage the wall paint or paper if you take it down again, But you can try use dental flosss and floss of the tape. But this tape works wonders. You can even wash it and dry it for reuse
Even though they’re advertised for philips hue, these work great for me. https://www.amazon.com/Litcessory-Controller-Adapter-Lightstrip-Detachable/dp/B08F9QB623/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=9OPTPGFPA5JD&keywords=litcessory&qid=1661617698&sprefix=litecess%2Caps%2C126&sr=8-5&th=1&psc=1 Just make sure to get the v4 with micro pin connectors.
Try this tape. Im using it my seld on my textured wall.
https://www.amazon.com/No-Trace-Removable-Washable-Anti-Slip-Adhesive/dp/B07Y9QSGCC

This is just a link so you see the tape. you can try and order it ur region or stores.
No idea with the app since I just got them a couple days ago. However you might find se luck using IFTTT. I'm sure you could have it randomly pick from a scene every hour until X time or something like that.
Got 15 panels, how many of these do I need?
Is one enough?

I bought them - they're actually thin and flimsy, I think I'm going to try putting them on a thicker backing. The link for them is here.
I searched everywhere (meaning I spent 5 minutes looking on Amazon) for anything the perfect size that would fit with them and these were the only things that came the perfect size out of the box.
I actually had the same greenery idea last night. I'm putting fake grass/greenery on a wall in my apartment and I just ordered some more sheets of it. I'm going to cut out and size some hexagons from the next batch and see what I can come up with.
OK then I know it's not me who is blind.
Do you have an opinion about this switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09FL9WPGL/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

And, thank you for the answers, much appreciated.
switches....that has given me a lot of headaches..
I live in the Philippines. I simply have not found any switches that support Apple Home Kit.
I have settled for the next best which is a HomeKit enables switch that uses Wifi
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09FL9WPGL/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
Do you know of any switches 220V and 60Hz that has thread?
For those that might be interested, I also submitted this as a support ticket. This was their response:
Thank you for writing to us. I must say it is a really interesting idea and it really got me looking into a way too ! I apologise for the delay as it needed a little bit research from our end.
Now, coming to your question - as fascinating as that sounded, I couldn't find an exact way to set up the panels to turn on through IFTTT based on your phone alarm settings. Alarm is an offline app as you know and I am not sure if there is a way it can communicate through an online service. But I did find an applet from IFTTT where you can do just the thing you are looking for if you are using a Google Calendar. You can use this so the Panels would change color 15 minutes prior to your appointment. You can check this from below: https://ifttt.com/applets/F6aLXwhF-remind-me-when-a-google-calendar-event-is-starting-soon#
Let's check that out and see if that works for you. If not, I would suggest submitting a service request to IFTTT. I will also pass the idea to our team here for future reference. Please do let me know if you found a better solution. We really love how you guys are implementing the integrations we developed. Keep them coming and we would be glad to assist any way we can !
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions ! Have a great day !
Thanks Nasheen
So I haven't tried this out yet, but I'll probably try it soon. The way I understand it, this means that it could be a solution, if you're prepared to set your alarm as a Google Calendar event (instead of your 'real' alarm).
I'm still interested in better integration between your phone and smart devices, so I'll be researching this a bit more and hopefully find a perfect solution.
You could try Govee’s knockoff, but they’re not that much cheaper: https://us.govee.com/products/govee-glide-hexa-light-panels
Also no HomeKit support like Nanoleaf has, if that’s important to you.
Then there’s tons of things out there that claim to be “cHeApEr nAnOLEaf AlTeRnatIvE”, but you look at them and they’re either controlled with something like this, or involve programming your own arduino.
I wish Signify/Phillips would do Hue modular panels, but that doesn’t seem to interest them.
Get your command strips from Amazon, they are no where near that expensive. I got a pack of 16 for €13 here - https://www.amazon.nl/gp/product/B086N961L2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Amazon has the best price I’ve seen for a brand new 9-pack since they got discontinued. Nanoleaf Rhythm Edition Smarter Kit - NL28-2003TW-9PK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079FZGZS4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_0AJJF3B92T9969HZXCS0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Bought two of those to max out my existing setup. They get more impressive the bigger your setup is, lol
There are several issues with the bulbs and the led-strips. After more than a year Nanoleaf has not been able to let this work reliable. If it does not work, just send it back. There have been several firmware updates, but that does not make a difference. For me I hope Thread will be implemented by google in its hub2, but that has been postphoned several times. For Apple users... I don't know.
Also the RouteThisHelps app mentioned by someone, on the android app store it gets very bad reviews.Word reading for a laugh. routethishelps.
I highly recommend the Command Small Picture Hanging Strips much easier to remove then ones that stick directly to the wall.
It's fairly simple, I just got this off Amazon, cut a piece slightly bigger than the panel. Then put it on the panel, squeezed out any air bubbles. Then flipped the panel over on its face, and cut any of the excess off with an exacto knife.
I do have a video but i'm too busy to edit it or whatever, I can send you the raw footage if you want
These are an even cheaper option as well if you want as well, it is a newer version but does not come with a corner piece. I do think they look better though. I'm not the OP, but these are pretty common (and work great):
So what do you think I should buy first?
I found this product on amazon, should i buy this as my first led light product in my room?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nanoleafshapes It is exactly what you are looking for. You can make an animation and save it onto the nanoleafs so you can select it through the normal app and smart assistant
It’s a LaMetric Clock, you can find it here: LaMetric TIME Wi-Fi Clock for Smart Home - Social Media Counter - Cinema Lightbox - Digital Alarm Clock with Weather - Retro Pixel Art Bluetooth Speaker with 37x8 LED Display https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IVTVK3W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_K1C60BJVH8D7XY0B1P8F?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
From amazon..just seach for 3D wall panels..also you need some kind of super glue to make em stick..command tape wont last..
Hi, thank you! These are actually a lot of different types of faux plants, not the tiles. Not the exact set I have but contains most: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SGPX7GX/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_CAYBH4X9CA975VFNQZWR. I also had some faux ivy on there to help it feel more full and random. The more random the better. Facebook market place is also a good place to look too. Instead of glue, I used a staple gun to staple it into the wooden panel I set this up on. Velcro'd the panels on. Have fun!
I've had this same issue with my light strip and bulb. I recommend installing this app so you can actually see if your network is picking up the bulb / strip (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.druk.servicebrowser&hl=en_AU&gl=US)
I was trying for 2 months to get this stuff to work and it wasn't happening. As a last effort I enabled IPv6 on my router and things started working, though I have no idea if that was the actual issue or not. Furthermore I have also noticed that the Android App and the PC will not work simultaneously. If the strip and bulb are being recognised by the PC app then they won't be via the android app and vice versa. I don't even bother with the android app anymore as I only use the essentials for screen mirroring.
Hope this helps.
The binding has an auto detect feature and will add the individual panels as controllable things to your openhab installation.
https://www.openhab.org/addons/bindings/nanoleaf/
I then just fiddled A bit around until I knew which panel is where on the wall and named them appropriately.
something like these https://setshop.com/chipboards-unusual-size-and-thickness-custom-cut/
https://www.amazon.com/Grafix-Chipboard-12-Inch-Natural-25-Pack/dp/B0013JRFUA
I think they are called chipboards.
You can ofc paint em one colour or make an abstract pattern maybe so it looks like art with nanoleafs on top of em :D
So you can choose to hang it up as one plate piece or cut out ur given pattern for the nanoleafs. Might be hard if you made a snake or something abstract with ur leafs :D Then the whole plate drilled to the wall sounds more easy.
Yes. Kids nightlight stand. Look on Amazon for the Acrylic glass like Pokémon or dinosaur and it’s the base.
Govee Glide . Tried the Lifx Beam before which was essentially the same thing, but utterly disappointed when the connectivity issues keep on happening. Govee is super reliable though and works on both WiFi and Bluetooth.
Yeah of course! Heres the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyclub.cyclubspotify
All you need is:
1.) Spotify Premium
2.) An Android device
3.) Nanoleaf panels (Aurora, Canvas, or Shapes)
4.) A non 5G wifi network
I’ll be here for support if you run into any trouble
Ive been working on an application that allows me to “program” the panels to hit certain cues in the song… usually this degree of accuracy only comes with dmx, and while Nanoleaf does have a pretty capable DMX unit, the truth is that some hobbyists don’t want the hassle and expense of learning to program in DMX and acquire all of the necessary gear and software for that, and I can totally understand that.
So I’m really excited to share “intelligent programming” with the community! If you have a setup, you can try it out for yourself @ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyclub.cyclubspotify
I hope i’m not breaking any rules by posting that… but yeah that’s the app for now. Im actually looking to get feedback so if you wanna try it out, i’d love to hear how it goes for you. Its still early on, so I’m hammering out the kinks & bugs etc.
I used these.
Two strip per light at the corners. Pay attention to the installation instructions (including pressing hard for 30s and not using them for at least 1 hour after installing), otherwise they’ll fall off the wall.
First off, I use these to keep the light switches from being flipped (LINK). With several dozen Essential Bulbs in the house, it's something I had to keep under control.
Second, I have three HomePod Mini's around the house and several Shapes controllers all acting as Thread boarder routers. Not sure how much that helps the situation but when I kill power to Essential Bulbs they normally just connect right back up and have HomeKit/Siri control again almost immediately.
That said I have had a couple of them completely unpair themselves for no reason over the last 4-6 months I've owned them. Hasn't happened often and it was simple enough to repair them, but it did happen.
If you’re talking about the old discontinued triangles, they were originally called Nanoleaf Aurora. Here they are on Amazon, the Rhythm Edition…
Nanoleaf Rhythm Edition Smarter Kit - NL28-2003TW-9PK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079FZGZS4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_B5JDCZJ2JZY94FSXGZ9P
I haven't had the need to try it yet, but I had the same question and a friend recommended this to me based on their experience of moving one.
How did it go w/ the litcessory stuff? Are these the connectors you got? https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01M7XDZ5V. I want to use the lightstrip on the back of my monitor, so 80" is way more than I need, but I don't want to "waste" the rest of the strip.
I’ve cut one strip in one of my rooms just to make it shorter, and had no problem with it. I also cut and extended another strip in my kitchen. For that one I use a standard 6-pin V3 connectors. I used this extension, you can see the connectors in the extension (which are also detachable).
Yes it is! Love it other than showing water stains and finger prints all the time. Z-Line Designs Feliz Glass L... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0076BE5IE?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It will not stay. It will stick for a little while but eventually fall with the included 3M strips. The panels are light, so they wont really break anything, but you will have to re-install.
With something like this a roll of 30lb gorilla double sided tape would do the trick applied along the length of the panels.
As r/osu-fan69 said, command strip Velcro is the way to go. I got these and they have worked flawlessly, and it makes it easier the change them down the road if I want to update the layout.
My biggest advice would be follow the instructions for the command strips. It says to put the strips on the wall and let them sit for an hour before hanging what you’re hanging. What I did was put them up in the layout I was doing and then took all the pieces down for the hour and then just rehung them up.
Here is what it looked like as I did it and then after - my Nanoleaf shapes
Good luck!
Not sure that youre missing anything, but now that youve made me aware of it, Im slapping a Kill-A-Watt (LINK) on all of my panel setups one by one and checking into this for my setups. If this end up being the case for me Ill have a problem and will be unplugging them or using a smart plug/switch. I had vampire sapping electronics and I would have thought NanoLeaf would have figured out how to be efficient. Obviously not with their DNS requests though (LINK)
Hey OP, if you have a costco membership you can get these at most stores for a 34 pack for $15.... it's the best price you'll find them for by far. https://www.amazon.com/Indoor-Picture-Hanging-Strips-Large/dp/B07ZPB382G/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=3m+command+34+pairs&qid=1617123441&sr=8-2

link is just for example.
Do you prefer any particular type of strips? Something like this? https://www.amazon.com/3M-Dual-Lock-Reclosable-Fastener/dp/B004V3RALO
>Muzata U108
You mean these ones (LINK)? Does look like its only a 10 pack. I really only need 6m but I guess I could find something else to do with the 4m left over. Wonder why they dont have any smaller packs listed.
Also, since those are so much taller I wonder how much light we'd lose to get that "neon" effect.
The whole thing requires 7 of the 25W power supplies, and I used this “Philips Accessories Philips 6 Outlet Charger, Resettable Circuit Breaker, 3-Prong Grounded Adapter, Side Access, Wall Tap, White, SPS1460WA/37, 1 Pack” https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C4D9RHP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NBDD91KZJ4PWEKYG4RYT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I got them from Amazon. They are sold separately so I had to buy each letter :) here’s the link and enjoy! However, your adhesive tapes are quite obvious
Maybe, you wanna change to some kind of adhesive putty

But it might damage the walls
You'll want to get something like these 3M Command Strips

I've seen a few videos of it and it admittedly looks pretty cool, but you're right, it's literally just the light strip from the same company (got that, too, since I couldn't decide) with some plastic over the top. It comes in several segments, so you can arrange it in an L shape if you want, but that's about it. For $130 minimum, I'm having a hard time justifying keeping it. Grabbed it on Amazon, haven't even opened it yet. I know they're generous with their returns, but I don't want to open it just to glance at it and send it back either.
The LifX strips do have the advantage of having some pretty cool features built-in. Cycling through colors, painting the strip through the app -- stuff Hue can't do.
Then I found this on Amazon for a fraction of the price, making it an even harder sell.
Thanks! Got two mutts, you can see the other one in the first pic looking out the window. Love them to death but if you want to talk about spending money, those two assholes are the bane/sole-purpose of my existence: that room is darker because they ate my damn window sills, doors, end tables, drawers, mattress, super expensive weighted blanket, etc. etc.
The auroa is this nifty device: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L8R5PK6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My nieces adore it. For me it's quite fun to put on at night, chill out to some tunes, smoke some weed, and bliss out.
I had the same problem since my wall has some textures.
I got hitlights and it’s super strong. Now I am afraid when I move out. But so far it’s good
I will need help to remove though.

The ability to connect to WiFi is not a provider issue. If you can connect to WiFi with full bars but your internet is slow that is a ISP problem. If you are using a rented or free WiFi router from your provider this is probably the problem. Buy a new WiFi router. Here is the WiFi router I use I can connect to it across the street. If you have multiple devices or a large house this will greatly improve your quality of life.
3M Command Strips with Velcro. That’s what I used instead of the ones that come with the panels themselves. The strips snap together and come apart anytime I want to relocate them and the second half comes off the wall clean without paint damage as long as you pull them in the direction indicated.
They’ve also worked for sticking photos, prints, a whiteboard and a peg board to my walls and none of them has fallen in years or stripped paint.
You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073XR4X72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_f4fhFb43BQS6T
Amazon has them and you can get them by Sunday.

Isn’t possible to reuse the adhesive. I bought new one on amazon:

Most of my panel are bought Kijiji (similar at Craigslist in Canada).
I used this double sided mounting tape to put them on the ceiling, link. I cut half inch squares and put three on each panel.
No, it’s not dangerous. You need to match a few things, but that’s it. Look at the label on your power supply. It will show input and output power ratings.
You want the correct input power (this varies, for example I’m in the US—but basically if you get the correct shape of plug for your wall outlet, you should be getting the correct input power from that wall outlet).
Then you need the correct output:
Here’s a pretty good article explaining it: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/choose-right-power-adapter-charger-phone-laptop/
My Nanoleaf power supply says it’s 24volts, 2.7 amps, positive polarity, and the physical connector measures 3mm in diameter. This universal power supply looks like a match. Your power supply may be different, so check the label and the physical connector. And again, no guarantees that a new power supply won’t make noise. Most of them do, especially cheaper ones.
Thanks for the gold! You really didn't need to do that.
First things first you probably don't need the Apple mesh router. The Nighthawk X10 is a really good router. But one thing you can do is download an app on your phone to measure how strong the signal is. You can kind of do this by just looking at your phone's wifi signal strength icon too. If you have an android I highly recommend WiFi Analyzer. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en_US
If your wifi is strong in every part of your place then you don't need a mesh wifi system. They are for large places that have many walls where one wifi router put out a strong even signal to blanket the entire house.
As for setting up a static IP for your problem devices (start with the nanoleafs) check this out: https://kb.netgear.com/24091/How-do-I-reserve-a-LAN-IP-address-on-my-Nighthawk-router You'll need their MAC addresses so your router knows what device to assign the permanent IP address too. Grab them in your attached devices page in your router.
Hope that all makes sense and isn't too hard to do. Let me know if you need me to explain/clarify something further.
