If anyone wants both songs (seperated) on in the best youtube quality for on the go, I got them here including tags, cover art and all that shit. Enjoy!
Last month I went to Japan and visited where Guinness & Tribe Records (Nujabes' Record Stores) once stood - It was pretty amazing; I snatched a little pebble from the alleyway as a keepsake, too! One of the 70 + records I took home from my trip was Five Deez' Plazma Avenue w/ the Nujabes B-Side Remix and the Five Deez acapella. Since I haven't heard anyone else use the Acapella before - I thought I'd use it over one my own beats. The sample is taken off another record I got in Japan
https://www.discogs.com/Bob-Mintzer-Source/release/2578477So here it is - hope you like it!
For anyone wondering; I use an MPC 2000XL (same sampler as Nujabes) to make beats. Thanks for listening!
PS: If anyone has any questions about the location, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer!
There's a lot to talk about when it comes to his music, so you made a good choice for a presentation, at least!
Maybe it's easier for you if you pick a second song that's purely instrumental without a vocal track. It could give you more to talk about when comparing the two; maybe how he had to rely on writing a catchier melody to compensate for the lack of vocals, or just the fact that his music is also very instrumentally oriented on itself and that it doesn't always require lyrics to really deliver. Either way, the two albums you mentioned have plenty of songs to choose from, so I'm sure you won't have a hard time picking another one next to Feather.
As for a closer description, you can check out this website to see where he got his samples from in most of his tracks. Might be an interesting additional bit of info, since he does use a lot of them.
If you click on a song, you'll see what samples were used, and if you click one of those, it'll show you exactly where in the song it was used, pretty useful!
Other than the samples, you can talk about the lyrics of the tracks you want to use. It's always best to try and understand the lyrics yourself, but here's a useful website for rap lyrics. Just click on any yellow part and it'll give you an annotation with an interpretation. They're all user-submitted though, so they might not make as much sense sometimes.
Discogs is the place to go unless you're ready to travel to Japan. I have quite a few Nujabes records from there. If you'd like some additional Nujabes related records that are not so expensive, you could check out the material Nujabes sampled, Yusef Lateef's Eastern Sounds for example.
A little bit of everything, I'd say. I know that Nujabes played flute, as seen here. He would also use samples to create his music. There's this dope website called [whosampled.com] (whosampled.com) where you can look for certain artists, or even songs, and hear the samples they used. Here's the page for Feather on whosampled. Some producers use programs like Fruity Loops, Ableton, or Pro Tools, to make their music, while others use hardware, like an MPC or ASR 10. Now most of these programs are going to come with their own sounds, like drum kicks and pianos, but they tend to sound a little "cheesy". So a producer might look online for a drum kit or just record their own sounds. There's also virtual instruments, called VSTs, that allow you to use a keyboard, or anything MIDI, to play music. This is a pretty brief overview of the whole process, but I hope it gives you some kind of idea on how music can be made.
As far as I know, none of the albums can be bought digitally so your only option is to buy physical CDs directly from hydeout/tribe or a third-party reseller (e.g. Amazon JP) and rip them yourself (this is trivial with EAC). I find the physical CD prices to be over the top, especially once you factor in shipping from Japan.
You can order from the Japanese amazon site, shipping rate isn’t terrible https://www.amazon.co.jp/Metaphorical-Music-LP-Analog-Nujabes/dp/B07HK2TZ7R/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541729878&sr=8-1&keywords=nujabes
Pase Rocks album Bullshit As Usual is mostly produced by Nujabes (it's not just a song title, 15 tracks). Substantial's first album To This Union A Sun Was Born was produced by Nujabes. I've read that Supastition did a collab as well but I'm not sure on the details. Check this link out
When in doubt, take a look at Amazon.co.jp:
Hydeout Productions First Collection
They don't currently have Metaphorical Music available for international shipping.
Don't buy it there ...
Just make an account on amazon jp and you can order it there.
I am living in germany and it comes down to 5100 yen (43,5€) with shipment and taxes.
The albums in his discography are not available digitally, If you do see links to digital versions of his albums online they are fake/bootlegs. Hus Kingpin (Digi Crates Records) was recently caught selling them, please keep alert:

Try asking /u/XBanana, otherwise I'd recommend checking out Pulsewidth's reinterpretation and for anybody that hasn't heard it at all, you can find it here (thanks /u/2muchrubik).
If you don't wanna click, the lazy answer is Gon' Be Okay by Lil' B (2011), and False Astronomy by Mister Lies (2012) both sampled the song in some way.
edit: Probably the Lil B track you're looking for.
I'd love to snag some Nujabes on vinyl, but the prices in the secondary market are unreasonably high (in my opinion).
I have a pretty wide variety of things: math-rock, progressive rock (tons of that), mid-2000's indie, jazz-fusion, etc. Here's my discogs collection for anyone interested.
Edit: I didn't actually answer the question.
So I know /u/QuantumDisruption already posted this but I shared it anyways since that post is over a year old. I don't know if the link has been posted prior to that, but I linked the comment that I first saw. Hope this helps you guys.
OP linked a screenshot of the lyric site, RapGenius. Here's the page in question. OP wrote their interpretations of the song's lyrics on the page, and Substantial "cosigned" (agreed with) the interpretations.
just to add to the convo, some of Nujabes' sample compilations

you can order it off Amazon Japan , comes out to around $55 USD shipped.
Got it on Amazon

Looks like it's unavailable.. when I purchased it it also took a while to ship
No no offense taken, sorry If I sound agitated. The issue has been ongoing and unfortunately not recieved much music media coverage to ensure fans of this great music dont get hit in the wider scam. Myself and few others have tried their best raise awareness and It seems nothings slowed him down from the theft of artists music through the Digi Crates label front: https://medium.com/indie-music-listeners/digi-crates-records-the-jun-nujabes-seba-scam-cd7b78d9a721
Masta vinyl also available, same price.
Masta is also available, same price.
I just resort to simple L shaped screw-in hooks you can get at any hardware store for cheap. I also have a few of these which is what is holding the Way of the Samurai comp in the picture cuz I was initially worried the hooks would dent the jackets, but tbh I haven't had that happen yet
Y'all know that you can snag the LPs on amazon.jp, right? I got Metaphorical and Modal Soul music for $30 each plus $20 for shipping/import.
The official copy comes with the sleeves you mention (round on the bottom, squared off at the top). If your copy came without the sleeves, especially if its used and the previous owner possibly misplaced them, it doesn't necessarily mean its a bootleg but i would be a bit concerned about the records scratching against the interior cardboard without something to protect them. I would say either return it you're uncomfortable with the purchase or buy some plastic sleeves like these.
After investigations, the guilty has been found. Digi Crates Records, label run by MC Hus Kingpin is behin this scam...

I just did a request on this site, maybe if we're enough they'll put it back.
was wondering bout Logic;s track Under Pressure looks like our ears lead to the same sample different tracks and possible influence
Check out Modal Source: it's mainly jazz and has most of Nujabes's sampling sources: https://www.discogs.com/Alys-Modal-Source/release/6578783 I also added all the artists for each of the songs so you can find them easier. If you want a download link to the album I can provide one. In fact, if anyone wants any of the Modal Sources I have all 5 CD's and high quality rips of them all.
https://www.amazon.com/Modal-Soul-NUJABES/dp/B083ZMHFLT
Around $50+ is what you can expect for Modal Soul on Vinyl,
As for Metaphorical Music https://www.amazon.com/Metaphorical-Music-2LP-Vinyl-Limited/dp/B07HK2TZ7R
About the same. Whenever there's a repressing though the price drops down a little more closer to MSRP but yeah it hovers around this price. I think cheapest I've seen either is $40 and that was when I grabbed my Modal Soul
Check out Amazon Japan, currently they have Metaphorical Music at a good price. Modal Soul is a bit higher, I've seen it come down to the 4000 yen range.
Some other sites also have Nujabes vinyl in stock. Over at /r/VinylReleases I see a posting for Hydeout Productions First Collection, though the price is higher than I would go for compared to what I've seen with Amazon Japan.
Agreed. It’s about $36 USD from Amazon Japan. Here’s the link if anyone is interested.
Cheaper on amazon japan! only 6 left in stock.
I think it's still available for purchase from Amazon Japan (that's where I bought it earlier this year and it's legit): https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B083ZMHFLT/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Nujabes+-+Modal+Soul&qid=1579256514&s=music&sr=1-5
hey, AMAZON JP just listed for perorder, good chance to grab without proxy, shipping is about $10 to USA
If you are interested in buying it you can get the luv(sic) Hexalogy album. I have this album, so if you want the song you can DM me. It's a great album though. It comes with a second cd that is the instrumental versions of each song. It also comes with a booklet in which Shing02 talks about the making of each song.
You can get a legitimate (as far as I know) Korean pressing of Depature at Amazon for around $20 but unfortunately for Impression, you'll normally have to pay much more than that for an authentic physical copy outside of Japan.
I have a copy, however, Mine I suspect is a bootleg repress I bought off amazon in 2012. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006P2ZGSS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has skips and the audio isn't that good. Idk if i'd sell it, Only if the price is right.
