yeah, they are kinda small, but theres a joycon grip that makes the triggers bigger https://www.amazon.com/PDP-Nintendo-Switch-Pro-Charging-Grip/dp/B073X4V4V4
There isn't a specific PC controller but PS4 controllers will work, the only cheap one is this one
First, you must have an amazon japan account.
Then you buy it from Ipega. Link item
Then just pay it like nomarly. Amazon will calculate the price, tax, and shipping price for you.
Then just pay it like normally. Amazon will calculate the price, tax, and shipping price for you.
I think they've always been around the same price? Shipping is brutal though. https://www.amazon.co.jp/Hatsune-Project-Controller-Luminous-Function/dp/B09MT49ZQV/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=1UXZ5BF5NARR1&keywords=pega+games+project+diva&qid=1654820462&sprefix=pegagames+project+diva%2Caps%2C153&sr=8-1-spons&...
I have and use a slightly older version of this 8bitdo controller, but they're essentially the same: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XY8H9D5/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_61JWGSD9HPPG42G7GQHM
Works great, have used it on Project Heartbeat on pc with no issues, as well as switch ver of megamix.
The lowest price arcade controller I know while still being reliable is the Divacon from ISTMALL
If that is too expensive still and you want something for less you can get the ipega controller (https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Hatsune-Project-Controller-Luminous-Function/dp/B09MT49ZQV/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=ipega+project+diva&qid=1653890048&sr=8-5) but it looks really iffy based on videos out there and I wouldn't count on it to be reliable
MegaMix adds nothing but portability, it's the same game with fewer songs and visuals adjusted a bit for the lesser hardware.
As for tips, learn how to use your left hand. Alternating between hands lets you go faster more easily (instead of X-X-X, press X-down-X), and also lets you do complex holds. You can also assign multi-button macros to shoulder buttons. There's no rules though, do whatever ends up working for you and just practice.
If you're really feeling like going all-in, the game was originally an arcade game designed with a specific controller layout in mind that IMO is really fun to play. As far as I know the absolute cheapest option to get one of those (besides building one yourself) is https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Hatsune-Project-Controller-Emitting-Function/dp/B09H7C3LQ7/ref=sr_1_9?crid=3CKB6LB6BBWD4&keywords=ipega%2Bproject%2Bdiva&sprefix=ipega%2Bproject%2Bdiv%2Caps%2C104&sr=8-9&th=1
There are basically two choices. Very expensive and very well made, or way cheaper but still kind of expensive and not very well made.
Technically mine is branded iPega but they appear to be identical. It's holding up, I can spam out some 8, 8.5 star full combos, and I am still limited by my ability more than the controller. But the buttons tend to get a little sticky which can be a problem when you need to go REALLY fast. Solution is to pop them out and clean everything every now and then, and in my case I had to remove some foam pads that got loose.
Arcade controller is so much easier on the hands. Unfortunately the only really affordable one is the iPega Mini which you generally have to ship from Japan or buy third-party with a markup. It's really not very good and requires maintenance but there is no competition that I am aware of.
For example https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B091XZP16W/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=ipega+project+diva&sr=8-6 (the price drops to 5500 yen when I go to check out, not sure why)
It will not work on its own. It should work with a third party adapter like this. They're not super trustworthy since there are a million of them cheaply made knockoffs of each other. I have one and it seems ok. I don't use it for Project Diva because I have the Switch version of the controller, so I don't know if it can keep up with that button spam.
I remember a while ago there was no 3D for AMD at all but now they updated it recently so it works? Maybe try downloading the latest patch? Check here for more help: https://notabug.org/PDModdingCommunity/PD-Loader/wiki/AMD+Compatibility Sorry if this doesn’t help, I don’t know much about modding the game.
I bought a random one off of Amazon and it works great with no lag. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RJRQ1YD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Prob not super helpful since it's currently unavailable

Just tested it with the Ipega and Arcade Future Tone, it seems to work fine. AFT has always felt slightly more strict to me compared to Mega39's but I don't think it's anything to do with the adapter, I had the same feeling on an Xbox controller. I just have played far, far more on Switch.
I mostly got the adapter for using my Xbox controller on Monster Hunter but the versatility is really cool, I've used PS3-> switch, PS3-> PC, Xbox-> Switch, and now Switch->PC.
Also, just have to give a nice fuck you to Microsoft for still not putting fucking batteries in their controllers, I actually switch to my 14 year old PS3 controller when I want to go wireless.....
I have Megpoid music and....I don’t like how it was designed. No matter what difficulty, I still feel like I’m on easy.
But if you are fine with then get it. Have you checked Amazon JP? they have a couple used options.
If you're looking for an adapter to use a PS4 controller since everyone's mentioned using one (I do) then look at getting this 8Bitdo adapter.
Yeah I get that it's expensive, but that being said it is the best way to play on switch (for me at least). If you have small hands this controller is pretty nice, and fast shipping in the US.
