Yup, really really chunky aroid mix. It cannot be planted in straight soil.
I keep my anthurium in a homemade mix of horticultural charcoal, orchid bark, worm castings, perlite, vermiculite, coconut coir, and potting soil. Really heavy on the orchid bark and perlite and very light on the soil. You probably don’t need all of that, I’ve seen people grow anthurium in straight sphagnum moss! It’s also good to add a healthy dose of long release fertilizer every once in a while. I use Osmocote’s flower and vegetable fertilizer about twice a year.
I also use plastic mesh pots for maximum drainage and air circulation. I use these ones and then just keep them in cache pots since they are sort of unattractive. With this level of air circulation, they need watering about every 3-4 days, but they stay very happy.
Also make sure you maintain high humidity. I keep my apartment at around 55% relative humidity using a humidifier.
Good luck! Anthurium are beautiful and exciting. I know this was more info than what you asked for so sorry if I told you stuff you already know. :)
I purchased this planter from amazon. Ten-stone 17 Inch Rectangular Self Watering Planter Indoor,Windowsill Herb Planter Box, Outdoor Flower Pot Succulent Planter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BXGV2FH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3SWJK51ZXB60RJB5HQRN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And here is a pic of my gloriosum in it.
We used packing paper which is basically newspaper to wrap almost all the plants. This amazon link is the stuff my GF bought but anything should work.
We just taped the paper in a cone around the plant by taping it to the pot and for especially tender ones put some polyfill in the paper cones. Then we packed all the pots in cardboard boxes leaving the tops just folded over & not taped or the flaps taped so they stood up to make the box taller but open on top.
A few plants lost their newest leaves but everything survived and looked good as new after a day or two back in light.
Yup. I have a "3 season room" that's actually like a half-season room since it's not at all insulated. It gets pretty cold out there. I bought one of those $60 vinyl greenhouses that's like 7x7' on Overstock and a small space heater on Amazon that has tip protection. I also got a temperature control sensor (Inkbird ITC-306T Pre-Wired... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01486LZ50?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and set it to turn the heater on anytime the temp goes below 62 degrees. And obviously a grow light. It worked pretty well! My bananas grew all winter and were huge by spring. My majesty palm didn't do great but also didn't die. Actually none of my plants died. The space heater did end up running most of the time, and the temp did get as low as 55 or so. You also have to watch VERY CAREFULLY for pests because spider mites got out of control in there and it took me a while to get rid of them. I'm probably getting a second space heater or maybe one of those reptile heat lights to add this year since I have more sensitive plants than I did before.
Edit: I'm in Ohio, so you should have zero trouble in nc
https://www.amazon.com/Bonide-Revitalize-Fungicide-Concentrate-Ounce/dp/B076HW6S9K
This is what I bought. I got one that could be sprayed, but also used as a soil french. The roots were the parts having most of the issues for me so I wanted something that I could french the soil with.
My monstera was too far gone by the time I got this unfortunately, but I am using it preventively on anything I reported in the last few months and anything that was near the plants that died.
They are wonderful! They are a bit expensive though. I actually reccomend these cheap ones I got off amazon. Here they are:
I got it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHR19ZRJ
I like it, a full tank lasts a 2-3 days at the lowest setting, and about 12-18hrs on the highest. On the lowest setting, it keeps the humidity around 60-65% on the bottom shelves. The built-in humidity sensor doesn't seem very accurate compared to the other one I have, it seems to low-ball the humidity level (always says it's like 40-50%). I don't really try to keep my humidity higher because these are in my living room and it feels gross when it's more humid haha. One time I accidentally left it on the highest setting and when I came home from work the humidity in my entire apartment was 80%, and my plants closest to it were dripping haha.
Close! That's a model I was considering because it's super similar and cheaper, but all the bad reviews about the screws not being aligned made me opt for the more expensive model. It would be a pain in the butt to return something that big. I think mine is a bit bigger based on the dimensions as well.
This is the one I got (currently on sale for cyber Monday!): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TZ3KK8R/
I feel like I should get an affiliate code for all the free advertising I'm doing for Amazon lol
Yes, that sticky substance is basically a type of sap/nectar that is used to trigger ants. its a bit of a defense mechanism where a plant will secret the substance that ants have evolved to eat and possibly eat other bugs on the plant that is secreting the nectar.
However lots of studies have shown that a plant that is not in a defensive state can be triggered if it senses specific chemicals from other plants in the area. It can also be triggered based on certain concentrations of fertilizers and light levels. So EFN doesn't always mean something bad and many philos are prone to heavy EFN production.
I took a look at the other pic and to be safe, treat it with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D10EQA? for now and then again in a few weeks and then apply this every 3ish month https://www.amazon.com/Bonide-Product-951-Systemic-Control
I still think its just heavy EFN, especially if you rub it and nothing comes off but better safe than sorry.
I'm a big fan of Age Old Fish and Seaweed. All natural and doesn't smell, I use it at about 1/4 strength every watering and all of my plants love it. No worry about fertilizer burn either, at least not in my experience.
There are a couple of flower pots I’d recommend. There’s one that’s self watering I use for my crawlers, but if it’s in soil I just don’t use the wicks. You can find them here.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TRPT15W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The cons are the tempered glass on one of the doors seems to bow out/is warped slightly. Also, the Amazon pictures don’t show the metal wire shelf supports but you can see them in my pics so you’re already ahead of the curve.
FYI: fear not! The quickest and easiest was to mass treat plants (or house items) is to buy a bedbug treatment mattress kit. Don’t water your plants for the week (so the gas can permeate the soil) and place all your plants into the bag in a cool, well-ventilated space for 1-2 weeks! Then rinse and spot treat as necessary.
Thank you!! I made the moss pole. Super easy to do with plastic chicken wire from Amazon, spag moss & zip ties. Here's a link to the wire Plastic Chicken Wire Mesh -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SQ7CN79?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share[plastic chicken wire ] Have a beautiful day 🙂

Please note I'm not in any way affiliated with this brand/product/etc. and I earn no kick-backs from this.
I bought a little pump on Amazon like this. It even came with a little airstone. I broke it almost immediately. But good news, I found a two-pack of replacement ones at Walmart in the aquarium/fish section.
I just got the GreenPara brand off of Amazon earlier this month, and they’re stellar! Amazon
I think it mostly just how philodendron burle Marx grow, they can put out multiple leaves at the same time and they can have multiple leaves on each nodes. Unlike most other philodendrons one leaf at a time for each nodes. For my set up I just grow it under Barrina T5 light in a semihydro pot. https://www.amazon.com/Barrina-Integrated-Fixture-Utility-Electric/dp/B01HBT3BVM/ref=sxts_rp_s_a_2_0?content-id=amzn1.sym.9cb06d61-cbae-4109-9d1e-14578fae3d41%3Aamzn1.sym.9cb06d61-cbae-4109-9d1e-14578fae3d41&crid=25KNVA7T7D7CR&cv_ct_cx=bar...
Not sure. Here's the product page for the set of lights I have if it helps.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B093B9NXT7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Only two are aimed at the thai. though. The other two are aimed at other plants.
The Feit lights were such a game changer for my rare tropical houseplants. I got the one with full spectrum but it comes with a switch to toggle between blue light, red light, or a mix depending on your growth goals.
Just don’t use the kind of grow lights meant for marijuana. They are meant to replace the actual sun. Most, not all, but most houseplants want bright indirect light. The cheap sets on Amazon like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VD1884R?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_4JHA8JX6HW0PB0RTT1ZA are sufficient for the vast majority of houseplants.
I bought captain jack’s dead bug brew, but it says it’s for outdoor use. Did I get the wrong one? What I bought on Amazon
I purchased them on Amazon here is the link. They seem like good quality pots. EBaokuup 10PCS Clear Plant Nursery Pots with Humidity Dome - 3" Plastic Gardening Pot with Labels, Durable Plastic Plant Container for Seedlings/Vegetables/Succulents/Cuttings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08TM5GQVT/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_RJ88YAMRQBYPGK1E9765?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I bought a nice size 4” for $105 plus free shipping from youngfoilage.com 8/2021. Amazon has it for $85. Are you in the states?
It’s a Lechuza Deltini: Lechuza Deltini. Definitely on the pricey end (I’ve seen the price fluctuate a lot on these too based on availability) but a good investment and very high quality compared to a lot of others.
2022 Upgraded MARS HYDRO TS 600W... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VL8FZS1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is the one I have. A little pricey but totally worth it. I have two of them and I like them more than any of the other grow lights I have purchased. They are really powerful.
I don't know about the one you were looking at but I got a bulb that screws into a regular light socket for $20 a few years ago. The closet product from Amazon I can find now is below. But I also found similar products at Home Depot and Lowes for similar prices. I have one several feet above a bookshelf in a hanging light and it's doing great for my Alocasia and some starts. I might get at least two to make sure the bottom of your tent gets sufficient lighting with them.

27 x 19 x 63!! It's this one
Oh that’s confusing. I don’t blame you.
It’s says sphagnum but then mountain moss. I believe this has been preserved and then died green. I think you need something more like this Zoo Med Laboratories SZMCF25 New Zealand Sphagnum Moss, .33-Pound,Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019J2MA2/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_a_DMYNQK31R2PCN857QD8N
A lot of people like New Zealand sphagnum.
Thanks so much! Those are 15 watt “Sansi”s. They’re perfect! The big humidifiers are actually reptile foggers. I have a small cool-mist humidifier on the bottom shelf that I got from “CVS”

half distilled half tap, PH around 5. marine phytoplankton fertilizer around 19-10-3 not at full strength every 2 weeks.
Mine was destroyed in an ice storm, and I’m rebuilding now.
I grew up in Las Vegas so I know the struggle!
I would be weary of moving any of these outdoors especially due to the low humidity (although some parts of Arizona have more than others).
I would look into one of these types of greenhouses and see if it could fit on your patio. You’d probably need a cool mist humidifier (always with filtered water—distilled preferred).
You’d need airflow and to keep the temp below 80 inside, which may be very difficult without pumping in AC. You’ve got the light tho!
Do you have any room on your house that has lots of windows? Extra bright? Non carpeted floors are a bonus, but know in AZ carpet and tile are pretty standard.

I have two sets of these basic ones right now. They aren’t anything fancy but my plants seem to like them well enough. I have a bunch of Philos under one and a bunch of Hoyas and Peperomias under the other. They are still actively growing too. Super simple to install (tape or baby screws, timer, 4 strips. I don’t honestly know a ton about grow lights either but so far so good. There are cheaper units out there but I like that this one adds calmag back into the water. If you have city water with chloramine in it, make sure to get a 4 stage system. Also, if you live somewhere that pot is legal, your local hydroponic store would be a great resource.
Ok, so my final contenders are the last 2 u recommended or this one: Or these? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QFPBQDR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_T0WAZNB42CXCPNKDNAV3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1, which one would u go with?
Do you have any cheaper ideas lol? Any thoughts on these?:
We have several different indoor propagation / grow areas and have used a number of LED grow lights. This style works well, but each 42w light only produces around 1500 lux. One light will be good for your low-medium light plants, but you will need at least 3 of these lights over your higher light need plants to get them happy and run them for 12-14 hours. You can get more powerful lights to run them for less time, but also increase the risk of burning the plants.
The other downside of led lights is they will be very bright for the rest of the room. Our grow rooms "glow" when the lights are on and I wouldn't recommend them necessarily for a living room.
My aroids have been loving these lights! Very easy to work with as they can be linked together.
i use two different kinds i really like. these are weaker, i use them for my begonias that prefer lower light, with two on a shelf though they work fine. and these are a bit brighter and more expensive. both have 4 foot strips available also. if anyone should purchase the first kind though the cords that come with them are very short, i would buy a pack of longer link cords, amazon sells them for pretty cheap (they're T5/T8 link cords usually)
i use this to clear thrips out, works great. if you want to go nuclear get some captain jack's dead bug brew, spray that to kill the adults and the bonide will kill the young ones when they come out
It's a mixture of pumice, zeolite, small black lava, and leca. I hunted bulk yards for a while, and got a bunch of dumb looks so I took to the web. I found zeolite in 10lb bags and pumice in 3 gallon bags on Amazon. It was hard to find both that were in a larger ~3/8" size. Most types for sale of both are small pieces and filter out of net pots too much. The leca I get in 50L bags at the local hydro shop and the lava I get at Home Depot for around $8. I use a 1/1/1/1 ratio and opt out of the osmocote since we already have like 150 plants in semi hydro and have R/O and liquid ferts to make our nutrient solution.

This is not the zeolite I bought, but same stuff. The vendor I bought it from doesn't have it as an option currently.
I got them from Amazon by searching up coir totem pole . They ended up being thinner then I thought, but in a good way as you can see
Well I’ll cross my fingers that it’s not just a leaf haha. And I do! The one I have is from a offbrand called ‘CoolGrows’ on Amazon. I don’t think they have the specific size anymore (96x48x80) but here is a link for the grow tent.
Edit: vivosun on Amazon also has grow tents as well as Mars hydro I think. But they’re a little pricier last I saw.
I've gotten rid of them using a sort of two-pronged attack, I sprayed all of the affected ones once a week with the Captain Jack's dead bug brew, and I also sprinkled these bonide granules in the soil and watered them with that, so you're killing both the adults and any of the larvae that will hatch. Just be very careful not to overwater your plants this way, wait until they need watered to water those granules in. You only have to use them once every 3 months or so.
Nice! I actually converted these ones into pots by drilling holes, I like the crystal clear part (and the handles)
Or maybe it was these. Hmm
Sssooooo, here's how this all went!
I have a bunch of metal wire shelving space, and this wall was built into a 36"x18"x72" unit. The unit is wrapped with a layer of black polyfilm, and then a layer of clear polyfilm. There's a shelf under the wall for smaller propagations.
The backing of the wall is a spare 6'x2' shelf that isn't being used from my other unit.
I order two of these hanging wall planter pockets. I zip tied the hell out of them to the 6'x2', and then zip tied the shelf to the unit to that it was stable and secure.

Honestly the roughest part of all this was the arranging. I probably spent about 5 hour moving stuff, stopping, looking, adjusting, lather, rinse, repeat.
I put leca into the bottoms of a lot of the pockets since they're fairly deep, to give the 4" pots a boost. A lot of the plants are still in pots, but others I put a soil mix in and planted them right in. I'm still kinda unsure on some placements, so I decided to leave a lot of them in pots.
Yes I have tried a couple of the Sansi, and actually love them. My issue was that one blew out after a couple months, although they did send me an immediate warranty replacement. I have the boxy grow light, which is nice but tends to get rather warm really bright, probably best hung from ceiling or something. Have just since found good alternates at cheaper prices. https://smile.amazon.com/SANSI-Daylight-Lights-Indoor-Plants/dp/B07TKKG8Q3/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-p13n2_0?crid=1LN2Z8K21DGN6&cv_ct_cx=sansi+grow+light&dchild=1&keywords=sansi+grow+light&pd_rd_i=B07TKKG8Q3&pd_rd_r=bf700f60-7b07-4...
I could make a list of ones I've tried but, just passing through before work. Most recent I have added these in random spots that needed light. https://smile.amazon.com/Viribright-Equivalent-Daylight-General-Purpose/dp/B07BGBTR4X/ref=pd_yo_rr_rp_6/143-8346641-8556541?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07BGBTR4X&pd_rd_r=b9c9105a-f3b6-4b7e-9ae3-076bcfd347ca&pd_rd_w=HoDgV&pd_rd_wg=FvpNo... but my most successful have been these , all my plants love them, upwards of 1k foot candles right beneath. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QFPBQDR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Currently it's about 6" away from this LED growlight, it does fine but I think any LED grow light with a high PPF value works well with a P. rugosum!
I have these. I really like them, but probably overkill for what you need. I can vouch for the quality of the company. I’m sure any of them would be good.
