I hit 6 weeks on Thursday. Healing (physically) was pretty easy-going-- had some normal leakage and pain that was manageable with 12hr Aleve 2x daily after about the 3rd day. This was encouraged since the heavier stuff was upsetting my stomach and made me feel like I had the flu.
Right side is a little wonky (left side in the picture) due to suture knots delaying healing. Had those removed week 4/5 and babied that side for a bit, skipping scar massage per the surgeon's instructions. Wounds closed around 5 weeks and my surgeon's office says I'm no longer in danger of opening/ripping/hurting anything.
According to my surgeon, I'm still incredibly swollen for 6 weeks. Not concerning but just a note to be aware of. I can tell I'm swollen too-- still pretty much rock hard except for a few select places. Right boob (left side in the picture) is more swollen-- I'm right handed so this makes sense!
As of Monday was allowed to return to normal activities, aside from wearing an underwire bra. Weightlifting is my primary exercise-- everything so far feels good other than lat pulldowns/pull-ups so I'm taking those slow. I started at a 34I and am currently a 34DD. I'm hoping to end up smaller and feeling positive about the odds here given my surgeon says I'm still super swollen. But I'm still happy with the results!
As for soft cup bras, I highly recommend the Aerie Sunnie wireless and the Cloud 9 on Amazon. I bought one of those deeper V Lively bras and heavily regret it-- there's side boning that hurts like a mfer. Do not recommend!
Congrats!! I hope you're already thrilled. :)
I was instructed to avoid any topicals for 4-6 weeks -- the wounds needed to be completely healed, and there's probably something about internal sutures, etc. So, definitely ask your surgeon what they want you to do. When I was cleared to use topicals, the instruction was specifically cocoa butter and Vitamin E. I've tried many different types, combos, and brands (I'm at just about five months post-op). What's worked best for me is a layer of Shea Moisture hydrating lotion followed by a layer of CeraVe moisturizing cream.
The recovery can go up and down. It isn’t a linear experience. Bruising may increase when you start back on NSAIDs. If you find compression bras very painful you can wear an ace wrap instead (this was a game changer for me.) Breathe deeply to keep your lungs clear after surgery. I got these sponges that helped with bathing here they were awesome the first few days or later on when I was tired. Bidet made a huge difference for me. Finding a way to spend time outside helped my brain a lot too.
Drink lots of water! Don't pick up anything heavier than a plate of food for the first week or so. And maybe just use paper plates and disposable cutlery if you are alone and can't wash dishes for the first week or so. If you need to pick something up from the floor use your toes! When getting in or out of bed use your abs not your arms!
Backscratcher is a must, also loofa on a stick to wash your back. If you can; pick up some surgical dressings to put between your surgical bra and your incisions so they don't get rubbed/pressure on them.
Nap as much as possible. Fruits and veggies for the vitamin c to heal better!
That's all for now. Anyone else? Good luck!
You will need several front close sports bras. They will help. That way you don’t have to do laundry so often

Someone in here recommended these, and so I tried them, and love them. Comfortable and secure, without straps that dig. I started wearing them about 4 days post op. Prior to that I was in a binder that my surgeon put me in.
I'm on day 4 -- I stalked this thread for weeks and here is what I actually used:
- extra strength Tylenol
- reusable water bottle with a straw
- gauze pads
- zipper sports bras (I like these)
- pregnancy pillow (this one)
- stool softeners / gentle laxatives

I'm a stomach sleeper and have had no issues sleeping on my back with the pregnancy pillow. I didn't take any of the pain meds and was completely fine with the tylenol. I didn't have any "pain" -- it's more of a burning sensation around the stitches. I showered 48hrs later and was driving today. Honestly this thread scared me thinking I'd be in bed for weeks but I'm glad to say that hasn't been the case!
Can’t speak for the other commenter, but my doc has me wearing this for the first few weeks after surgery.

The Macon? Thats a hard one because you dont know what size you will end up as. But I didnt buy mine until I was about 4 or 5 weeks PO so by then I had tried enough Amazon ones to gather what would work best. And it has three rows so you can resize for swelling. But first few weeks PO I wanted to stay in my soft comfy one the hospital put me in the most.

Oh another lifesaver were these! They helped any bra that rubbed or was too tight on incisions. And now I use them for sweat!

I also lived for abdominal pads for the first few weeks. So comfy! And no irritating adhesive.
To be honest the type of oil or moisturizer you use really doesn’t matter much, based on tons of research. It’s primarily the act of regular massage to stimulate blood flow and cell turnover and break up scar tissue that is helpful—any kind of good moisturizer or oil is just fine, the massage is what counts.
If you use a moisturizer with some dimethicone, like Cerave for example, it does act like a barrier to help seal the moisture in better. That’s the active ingredient in a ton of makeup primers — idea being it kinda “seals” everything in. So could give you a little edge. A lot of scar heal creams contain it, as do primers and good quality moisturizers. I’ve been using Cerave’s face and body moisturizers for years, it’s good shit and inexpensive at any drug store. I’ve used a lot of the body cream on my incisions.
But again. The reality is that the only thing research supports working for improving scar healing is silicone based products. Whether you use cream, the paint on gel, tape, whatever. Silicone is key.
Silicone tape is also available in drug stores, there’s tons of brands and they’re all very similar. I like this roll I got off Amazon better than some CVS brand I got, it sticks really well and can stay in place for days. Also for the most part your scars are going to heal to the same extent eventually; these measures only really speed things up. A few years out your healing will be about the same either way but you can speed up the process with some of these things.
And nothing replaces a healthy diet with plenty of protein/veggies and hydration. Plus sleep. Your body needs all these things to heal itself.

I bought a few of these dresses. They cover the surgical bra, and are easy to button up and down. The material is light, so it is good for summer.
I would just buy some from Amazon amd use those. Mine were like $20 each? These are items you won't need after 6 weeks (and most likely less), so personally I wouldn't buy the "official" item.
But if you feel like you need the fitting, then I would suggest doing that for one, and buying a second from Amazon.
Sure thing - I got a U-shaped one. This is the link on Amazon, and there are dozens of similar ones.

Fantasie 4520 is a style I swear by. No lining great position on my breasts and the gore sits flush. On Amazon the price has been down to $30 off and on.
My surgeon told me a lot of people like the Brabic bra on Amazon. I got the clasp one, not the zip. I'm wearing it pretty tight, 24/7, like they told me to. I like being able to put it on the tightest clasps to walk and loser clasps to sleep. I even put the button clasps loser than the top clasps sometimes. Anyway, it's more adjustable that the zip. I mostly bought the clasps because when I read the reviews it seemed like a lot of people had the zipper break. I was going to try the WANAYOU zip bra also but they don't have size small.
My surgeon told me a lot of people like the Brabic bra on Amazon. It seems fine. I wish it were a little longer but I'm a bit tall. I put a thin tank top underneath it and it feels so much better. I was told to wear it very snug, 24/7, for four weeks. They said anything front closure that offers compression is fine. They said no padding.

Also a cup with a straw and lid. I'm literally just using a chick fil a cup. They put a breathing tube thing in during surgery and it makes my throat hurt. Also the cotton mouth from meds is pretty killer at first.
I used these non adherent pads for mine. They're very comfortable, a little thicker and don't stick! Non Adherent Pads
I don’t know about that kind... but this is what I did/used. I had no issues with sticking.
I am an advocate for using both silicone tape and oil/messaging. It takes a bit of a routine to make it work at the same time as the tape won’t stick to oiled skin. I would wear my tape until it was time to shower. Take it off the night before. Oil/message. Sleep. Shower in the morning. Retape. Repeat. I could wear the tape in the shower if I kept my boobs out of the water most the time. So I did that here and there. I got bad about taping around 4 months and then started only using the oil. Taping is time consuming and can start to get tedious.. I use the oil instead of lotion when I get out of the shower and just do some rubbing on my incisions for a min or two. It’s pretty quick and easy at this point. At my 6 mo follow up my surgeon said my scars look more like I’m 1 year post op. Not sure how much was genetics or scar care, but scar care can only help right? I’ll link the products I used below. I would not recommend the strips that are shaped like an anchor scar/ made specifically for breast reduction as everyone is shaped different and it may not match up to your scars perfectly. It’s easy enough (and cheaper) to purchase the long strips of tape and just cut off and place accordingly. I even cut them vertically to get double the use out of it.

Thank you!! My surgeon told me no ice, but I'm two weeks out now so I feel like it's past whatever danger she was worried about, and I used some ice packs today and it DRASTICALLY reduced swelling (and helped with some of the discomfort as well). So I would talk with your surgeon about that if you want!
I got these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073R89SR5 they're great because the "fabric" is built in so I can stick em right in the bra. You might have seen this in my posts, but I'm going to make a master post of product reviews when I have the energy!
I had my surgery in December and still don't have total feeling back in my chest but I dont regret it. I feel like I look proportional now. My back pain and posture improved. I feel so much happier.
My advice is make sure you stay as reclined as possible. I slept in a recliner for almost 2 weeks because going flat to standing is brutal and makes the swelling worse if you sleep that way. Ice as much as you are able. You don't even realize how swollen you are until months after surgery.
You'll need front close bras and I wore a lot of zipper front hoodies while I was healing. This is a link to my favourite bra I bought for after surgery. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00FGAOCIA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_XHGHTQ394MN950QB0DXW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The first night is hard but the next two can sometimes be worse as the drugs from surgery fully leave your body and you can really feel the pain. So I recommend setting an alarm to take your pain meds, especially at night. Some people don't have that bad of experience but it depends. The worst part of the pain isn't that it hurts terribly it's that your pain is connected to your center of gravity. So you move and gravity will just put a little more pressure on you.
Also take the lifting limitations seriously. You can do serious damage if you push yourself and it'll only slow your recovery.
I have never spoken to a single person who has regretted this surgery. It's tough but the payoff is so worth it. Good luck!
No, it’s this one, but it sure looks like one. I do endurance cycling, and this suit made me think, for one ludicrous moment, about doing a tri. It’s the running that’d kill me.
A shirt that zips up is optimal. I bought one of these guys and since it's pretty warm where I am I cut the sleeves so it's short sleeve. It was just really easy to get on and off. They always suggest you wear a shirt that you can button on since it's hard to get your arms over your head after surgery. But this is easier than buttons. https://www.amazon.com/Hanes-Womens-Jersey-Hoodie-Medium/dp/B016YKIBS2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=hoodies+for+women&qid=1620964098&sprefix=hoodi&sr=8-3

And I ordered this C pillow and laid the top part on top of the wedge pillow. Rested my legs on the bottom part of the c pillow. I was in a nest sort of. 2 wpo and I still sleep like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LPQ48S6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_7PCBS751G2MMMJRBGRE4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

If you get one of the PO bras that go by bust size (i.e. 40, 42, 44) I was almost your exact same measurements pre and post-op and I went with a size 42 front closure bra. It fits really well, and while I could go down to a 40 I like the extra space for gauze/dressings the 42 gives me. I got this one from Amazon!
I do hover between a 34 and 36 band size, but I think the 42 would be good for you. When in doubt, I order a few sizes and return what doesn’t fit since they’re pretty inexpensive :)
I’ve been wearing these
They’re long enough that they didn’t bother my incisions too much and I was able to step into them when I couldn’t lift my arms up. My nurse said to wear a compression tank top but I thought this would be better so I didn’t have anything around my stomach.
I bought this pregnancy pillow from Amazon ($45) and I love it. It's slightly pricier than some of the other ones out there, but here's why I've found it was worth it:
Overall, been using mine for months now and love it.

I'm planning on not showering for the first week just so I don't have to look at my boobs any more than necessary. These wipes and spray deodorant are going have to get me through, at least until I can't stand to smell myself anymore.
I’ve been using ScarAway! Found it at Target and Walmart. It works ok, I just need to tape the ends after a few days to get all of its use. I cut the regular blue ones in half, but I have some “long” ones from the same brand coming this week. They come in green packaging and you can find them on Amazon. I also just ordered a silicone tape based on a recommendation I read on this subreddit. I think I’ll end up liking it more than the sheets because it’s meant to stay on for several days if you’d like it to. I’ll use it after I’m done with my next box of ScarAway.
I use Mederma scar gel after I moisturize and massage my scars using CeraVe in the blue tub and bio oil. Some ppl have reactions to bio oil tho, so be careful!

The antibiotics they'll make her take for like a week after surgery are likely full spectrum and powerful, which for many women results in vaginal issues. It's very common for women to get yeast infections, ph imbalances, dryness, discomfort, etc. At some point she may have an issue like this that might be embarrassing for her. You sound like a good dude who will help her (i.e. probiotic yogurt, a ph balancer like vagisil, yeast infection meds) no matter what, but I just wanted to give you a heads up.
Also, she needs to eat with every taking of every med, even if it's a few nibbles. One of the best things my boyfriend did for me was keep a small plate next to my two cuddle nests, with a lil pile of toasts and crackers so that any time I needed to take so much as a single benadryl, I had a little something to do it with. Not having to ask him for little helps like that made me feel independent. And he knew his standing orders were to glance over and see if the plate ever got empty and just refill it. Ended up saving me from so much nausea!
Thank you so much!! I feel a million times more comfortable now, it was so worth it. My only regret is waiting so long to do it.
I got it on Amazon! Here’s the link
I shopped on amazon

I got a great Freya and chose a cup smaller than normal, from amazon. I love it for running. I’ll edit with the link.

I originally bought my size, and while it fits and I use it, the very next smaller cup holds my girls better for running. It sadly has four hook and eye, but hey, I can jog.
I'll go back on Monday.
I was scared of the surgery on the morning of, but they gave me some anxiety medication. That helped! I ended up loving this bra from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/BRABIC-Post-Surgical-Adjustable-Wirefree-Racerback/dp/B07GGR68WB It doesn't iritate my incisions and the multiple rows of clasps have been helpful with the various stages of swelling.
My nipples have been super sensitive, so I also went through a couple boxes of non-stick pads. For the first few days, I wore a front snap nightgown that I've come to love. I've also liked having a fragrance free cleansing wash (CeraVe's Hydrating Body Wash) because I got a really itchy rash from the surgical skin prep and a micellar facial cleanser (Clinique Micellar Gel or Cerave Micellar Water) since I wasn't brave enough to shower for a bit. It helped me feel fresh!
No, I'm actually still waiting for the final list/instructions from my doctor, I'll get those by the end of this week. Those I picked out from other women in this subreddit talking about scar therapy and scar revision so I did some research on my own and found those. I have Prime so it's 2-3 day delivery and I'm going to wait on ordering them until I get final instructions from my doc. Here's the link if you're interested in checking them out though :)

I cut it longwise down the middle and it lasts a little longer.
This is primarily what I use. It helps flatten scars and support them while healing. I put it on as soon as my glue fell off at 4 weeks. I noticed a difference in one day. My surgeon said the top of the nipple especially tends to get raised and to keep the tape on. I think many of your questions are hard to answer as each individual heals differently. I really have no issues with my scars around my nipples.
I also have bio oil that I try to message the scars with whenever I get a chance in between taping. Not sure how much it’s helping but it can’t hurt. I’ve read the messaging might help more than the oil.

brand is paramour by felina.
ironically they say the cater to larger sizes, too! all the way up to 40G! (i never looked up the brand before!)
I bought that bra. I bought a band size bigger thinking it would not rub on my incisions as much. I think it made it too loose and made that issue worse. I would go by your regular band size. My surgeon told me my cup size after surgery would be a large b or small c. So I went off of that information. I was a D pre op and they took out around 450grams each breast. If that helps.
I liked these bras much better than those. It went down my torso a little more and off my bottom incisions. It was also the perfect amount of compression. The zip was easier to me than the hooks too. Women's Zip Front Sports Bra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081YSGKGF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I ordered a medium. For about a 38 B/C. (I think is what I am) oh and these also have a removable cup. I take the cup out if at home because it is more comfortable. But I’ve worn it in for going out and about. The cup can also help with compression and making it tighter if you leave it in. Or a little more loose if you take it out.

I haven't had breast reduction surgery yet, so can't speak for those scars specifically however, I fractured my ankle about a year ago and have been using Derma-E Scar Gel and love it! It's cheap and works far better than the other scar creams I've tried.
I was also encouraged by my physical therapist to massage the scarred area while it's lubricated to help the scars heal more quickly. I think the stimulated blood flow is supposed to help the skin repair so redness will be reduced and it'll more quickly become a fine, white scar as opposed to a red one.
tl;dr Derma-E Scar gel and massage the scars every day only while it's lubricated. I usually do it 2-3 times a day; once before bed, once after the shower and a random time tossed in there if I'm just chilling and have down-time to quickly put it on and massage the area for about a minute.
As far as the widening of the scars! Silicone-based creams, and Vitamin E are meant to specifically help with that. And preventing excessive pulling and tension around the area will help. Maybe be cautious while reaching up high for items in the cabinet or doing other movements that could stretch the area, at least while things are still fresh and healing!
You look great, by the way! Your results are so good!
This has the sort of cut I’m going for but I’m afraid I won’t be able to find a size to fit both my band and cup size. I’ve been trying a couple different sizes of https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SQGTC64/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Y89Y69WA2DGENKFW5V47?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 and am realizing if I order an XXL for my band size it’s giant on the boobs themselves. That’s why I’m leaning more towards the extender and getting something more like this https://www.target.com/p/all-you-lively-women-39-s-long-lined-lace-bralette-smoke-l/-/A-81299197 I just don’t know if there’s more than goes into sizing that I’m not thinking of or if there are better options lol
I didn’t have a hospital stay but a few things you’ll want/need right away probably for both the hospital and home:
1.) front button nightgowns. easy to get on and off. I got cheap cotton ones on Amazon. 2.) easy to slide on shirt and shorts or front button dress to leave the hospital and also for post-op appointments shortly after so you have something to wear in public. I had loved using this tankthis tank for going out in public. 3.) easy slip on shoes/sandals to leave the hospital. You may also want slippers for the hospital stay. 4.) wipes if you can’t shower for several days. TheseThese are “full sized” and were perfect. 5.) a water bottle with a straw so you don’t have to get up all the time 6.) a wedge pillow/body pillow/pregnancy pillow. Everyone has different preferences. I went with a wedge and body pillow. The body pillow has been great for keeping me on my back. And the wedge was really helpful for sitting on the couch 7.) eye mask if you’re a light sleeper. I started using one during recovery and it helped me actually get rest during the day and go sleep in. You may find this especially useful in the hospital. 8.) fill any prescriptions and get stool softener and Tylenol (if your surgeon recommends it) so everything is ready
Lastly ask your surgeon for any recommendations depending on their style of surgery and recommended after care!
In all honestly bio oil doesn't have a lot of active ingredients that will fade scars. You might get more results using this guy (which is on sale right now!!!!) and something to help fade the hyperpigmentation when the wound fully heals a few months later - talk to a derm about an azelaic acid prescription or have it shipped over to you!
I got myself a few sets of these matching pj shirts and short. They’re super soft and comfortable. Plus they were cheaper than anything I could find in Target. I just wore them to the hospital because I didn’t care about looking good, I just wanted maximum comfort. I’ve been pretty much living in these at home since my surgery. Unfortunately they don’t have very inclusive sizing, but if these work for you I’d really recommend them: Matching Pajama Set
I had surgery in 2017 and just now started wearing a wired bra with any regularity. I haven't felt like I needed it, but I put on a little weight this year, so I welcome the extra support now.
That said, I've worn a lot of wirefree bras that provide plenty of support and comfort! I love this one and own 3 of them!: https://www.amazon.com/DELIMIRA-Jacquard-Everyday-Comfort-Seamless/dp/B07VJMCC5P/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=delimira%2Bwirefree&qid=1625078139&sr=8-12&th=1.
The wired bras I have are also the same brand, and the straps are SO soft, and they all have 3 hooks. Even though I don't need a crazy bra anymore, I still love a very cushiony strap, which is actually hard to find now that my bra size isn't crazy. This brand has a lot of very soft straps in all sizes.
I also own like 5 of these, and I found them to be the most comfortable for like two years post-op. No wire, but supportive and soft while my scars were still healing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HRFTQ8W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. For the first time in my life, I bought a bra that comes in S/M/L with these.
I don’t know about some of the answers, but I’ll answer what I can.
I’m 4 wpo and felt pretty normal around 2-3 weeks post op. I would say I was normal physically (no pain) at day four when drains came out and it wasn’t even pain really. It felt like a sunburn on my chest and just tightness because, I mean, I was all stitched up.
I took pain meds (hard stuff) for maybe 36 hours then Tylenol off an on for 4 days or so after that.
I was TIRED. I would get winded even doing nothing lol, so I took afternoon naps and really listened to my body (and husband and doctor bc I’m stubborn) who did their best to remind me to stay in bed.
I bought this for the drains. Hope you can see the link. It just helped when I slept so I didn’t roll onto them bc I was so acutely aware of their presence!

I would say if your not driving you can do it. Just get a pillow. I saw on Amazon this pillow that would prob work. Mastectomy Pillow - Post Surgery Pillow After Breast Cancer Surgery or Breast Reduction - Perfect Breast Cancer Gift https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EE84FZU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_A3JQ42RNFTQH665FSCQ5
I wear this bra like 5 days a week lol it's very soft and stretchy gives just a little bit of support. It looks tiny when you receive it in the mail, but I promise you it is extremely stretchy.
i’ve been using this scar gel: Scar Remover Gel for Scars from... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V1ZKZRS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share twice daily since 3 weeks post op, when i got my tape taken off. my surgeon said my tape stayed on remarkably well, which also helped quite a bit. other than that i’m also using vitamin E oil every other day (which i HIGHLY recommend for all scarring. i had a mole removed on my face, and only used this on it, and now you can barely even see the scar!).
I bought this super soft 'long line bra' be it doesn't touch my incisions at all. It's not that attractive but fits and doesn't hurt anything.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FXD714K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If incisions are fully closed (no scabs) then you are good to start. I started right after my 6 wk follow up/when all my glue fell off.

I bought both the bras and the bed rest pillow based off of u/kitchen-grass recommendation. Also have used a mastectomy pillow and it's the greatest thing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086MVZDZ9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_XYC8BKVM4M0ADY8XFWK8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Congrats to you too!! So I think we do have to wear some sort of non underwire bra for several months to keep the shape, but the super tight compression bra they give you after surgery only has to stay on 24-48 hours. I definitely couldn’t last three months in this thing! I bought these on Amazon and they’re so much more comfortable: Women's Zip Front Sports Bra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G47YM8T?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I can't imagine trying to get a snug sports bra on over my head right now.
Oh my goodness!!! Thank you so much for this advice!! Also I'm about 210 5'2". I've given up on wearing bras lol so I get the not knowing ur size. Recently it's been just camisoles underneath shirts to catch all the boobs sweat for me (thank God I've been working from home)
Luckily my fiance will be helping take care of me, but I think everything you suggested is helpful regardless. So far I've bought ice packs that were made for breasts and a mastectomy pillow to keep my kitty cat and anything else from hurting my incisions. Posting links in case anyone thinks they may be helpful for them
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086MVZDZ9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_944NMRMR95HRX5P0BBFW
Again thank you! And I'll be sure to look at the products you posted and keep everything in mind! T minus 2 days!!!
I woke up in recovery in the Marena surgical bra and was sent home in it with an extra. It is actually very comfortable. You may want to ask at your pre-op appointment if they will give you one the day of surgery. I found mine on Amazon and ordered another. At my 6 day po appointment today the nurse said I could start wearing any type of sports bra that closes in the front. I am supposed to wear a support bra day and night for 2 months.
Hello! I'm 1 week post op and showed both of these to the surgeons nurse. Ahe really liked both of them because they are longer and do not rub the in incisions.
I had to buy a size bigger in both bras bc of swelling. I didn't expect swelling in band size, but I was wrong.
Im normally a 32 band and bought size Medium or a 34-36 size.
The first bra below I like a lot is, but it is a little bit too confining and hot for all day wear. I hope when I get the size Mediums of the softer ones (the 4 pack) they will be perfect, the nurse said too small with the size small. As far as fit goes, the nurse said not too tight and no bulging over the arm pit area.

Congratulations!!! Also, once you're all healed up, you'll have SO MANY OPTIONS FOR NIPPLES. Tattoos, piercings, you name it.
I would ask the surgeon about the first surgical bra--most places will give you one or two at the surgery. Then you'll need a few for home if you don't want to rely on them.
I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HZV198/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_W4GYZPHQMNEHWCF6V8Y8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 they're SUPER comfy.
On the size chart, you'll want to go up at least two band sizes and go several cup sizes larger than your surgeon says your end size will be. My surgeon said I would be a 32B, I bought based on a 34D, and I couldn't wear that one for a week post op until swelling had gone down somewhat, haha.
ETA my favorite nipple tattoo idea I've ever seen is one photorealistic nipple and the other one is just text over an arrow pointing to the other that says "that is not a real nipple"
I got these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PZS16KZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_E882V8NKTZVD97NHZNXD
They're super comfy and the zipper has been super secure! No hooks and latches to mess with. And they're cute enough I might keep the if they still fit haha
I really recommend either a button-up or a zip-up hoodie, but if you can also have some with pockets in the inside where your bulbs can sit. My jacket is a lifesaver I can just put the bulbs in the inside pocket instead of it swinging around.
Bring headphones, preferably without a wire attached because you'll have a lot on you already.
Bring yourself your favorite snack. I had a hard time eating , but I struggle with being a selective eater anyways so having something from home I knew I'd like was nice.
But honestly not much. You'll be out the first night sleeping most of the time. That your bag should really just have an extra set of clothes and basic toiletries
I highly recommend bringing your switch(if you have one) and getting hulu or something on it
A Pharma Doc Pillow for at home. It's absolutely amazing. If you are an exclusive tummy sleeper like me. It makes it easier.
They're cotton so i intentionally shrank mine. I'm not sure you can guaranteed go down 2 sizes that way though.
I bought these zip front ones and love them, easy to get into and comfy enough to sleep in.
These aren’t the cutest but holy moly they are so soft and comfy and fairly supportive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H9MWZ0K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MWX55KGMYCCVSB8JXS3R
I wear them almost all the time under tshirts and such and I really like them
I got my septum early November ‘20, had my surgery on the 9th of this month! I ordered a pack of these. It was gone when I woke up (they had to put me on oxygen after the operation), but I was able to put my metal jewelry back in when I went home the next day with no problem! Just depends on how healed the piercing is.
These are the ones I bought and have been using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXM8W8T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they have been working well and I have been able to tuck them into my ace wrap and then I don't have to hold them on there.
I have not had my surgery yet but I'll be trying to use a Reading Pillow with arms.
I like that this could help me sleep more upright and have practical used after recovery.

I bought this off Amazon! Haven't had my surgery yet but I found it suggested on this sub lol.
I got this tape off Amazon:
Silikan Upsize Gel Scar Silicone Tape- Medical Grade Silicona queloide Silikan 2 Scar Tape Replacement Keloid Recovery Strips Sheets Breast Surgery Scars Fast Track https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BP8D6B9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JN1E3M90W6ANZFSKHVHC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s more expensive up front but you get way more bang for your buck. I cut both the ScarAway strips and this tape in half, which also helps you get more for your money.
I'm glad I could be of some reassurance. I ordered these [Surgical bras] (www.amazon.com/dp/B072WQ8WJK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). I ordered an extra-large because I was initially a 36f, and I thought I would have a lot of swelling. But I think you should either order the size you’re going to be or one cup size bigger because you definitely want some compression.
When my doctor suggested the heating pad, I was a little surprised as I thought of ice too. But he said it helps keep the blood flowing which can increase the healing process. Plus it feels like heaven. Haha
I bought them on Amazon. But I believe you can get them at Costco too. Here is a link to the ones I bought. I had to put a napkin between my bare skin and the disc because it was a little too hot for that delicate thin skin in that area. They have many different brands, but they all essentially do the same thing.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMZQHAS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Here’s hoping your doctor approves the heating pad and these discs help.
By the way, this is THE most perfect ice/cold pack ever for this purpose. It is plush on one side and is long enough to go from armpit to armpit. It has provided the most relief.
YES! 100% yes - I'm about 4 months p/o and I only just stopped sleeping with mine. My sides hurt (where my drains were) until just recently and whenever I tried sleeping without it, I inevitably woke up with a yelp when I turned over in my sleep. Also, I didn't just use it for sleeping, I used it on the couch to keep me upright, which made it easier to get up.
Other than the wrap around cold packs, this was the single most useful thing I got for post op care. Try and find one in a swap or barter group if they're too expensive!
This is the one I got from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07BDH17D3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got the 60 inch - I'm 5'7", if that helps with the sizing! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!
My doctor said to keep the front zip compression like bras on especially because of swelling and not wanting gravity to do it’s job because my boobs were ready to “fall into place” basically. I’m 3 weeks post op today and wear these: Women's Zip Front Sports Bra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HMR63H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share without the padding in them and they have helped a lot.
I was given a bra by my surgeon - it took me a few hours before I realized I had no idea how they got it on me😂 I did order a few to change into based on a recommendation from a friend (I’ll link them) but it’s taken trial and error to get the size right! Definitely get a bigger band size than you think you need.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MT1AYXT/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_i_lMVYFb5CS7XW9
I’m definitely no expert but feel free to message me whenever if you need anything or even just want to chat!! I’ve been picking my friend’s brain pretty much nonstop and it’s been so helpful!
So happy for you and I wish you the best with your healing! If you’re struggling to find a bra, I suggest these! They’re sold in packs of two and I think the price is really reasonable! They zip at the front and the band doesn’t rest on the incisions, it rests lower. so they’re super comfortable! They do run a little small though (I’m a 34c post op and the large fits snug but tight which is perfect since I also needed a compression bra) so I hope that reference helps! It’s the one I’m wearing in my most recent post if you’d like to have a look :) good luck with the rest of your healing!! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XC7CY44/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_rIzVFbV8P6R56
I got these off of Amazon:
Women's Zip Front Sports Bra Wireless Post-Surgery Bra Active Yoga Sports Bras https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HZV198/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_EFQTFb1PTHXZQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
My surgeon suggested putting on a light, thin shirt (preferably cotton), then putting my bra on the help with this problem. Since the reason for the bra is compression. I got this bra https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JLRMS5Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_GA9SFb0WS5R7T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 and really like that I can put the top few hooks on tight for compression and the bottom hooks on loose for less irritation. Both my surgeon and an RN post op have seen this bra and said it was fine for recovery, so while I feel good about recommending it, you should also double check with your care team if it seems wildly different from what they recommended 😊 I tried a different bra for about 24 hours once and ooooman I think that was the most pain of my whole recovery just because of the chaffing/pressure it out on my incisions. Good luck, I hope you're feeling better soon!
In addition to the patches, these nausea candies helped me a lot with the nausea:
UpSpring Stomach Settle Drops for Nausea, Gas, Bloating, Morning Sickness and Motion Sickness Relief, 28 Count Individually Wrapped Drops for Tummy with Ginger, Lemon, Spearmint, Honey and B6 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074MJCC1H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_T9SSFbK22K8EV
I'm so sorry for the rescheduling problems. The thought of upcoming surgery is emotional enough without them screwing with you that way. I would've been a wreck too if mine had been put off. I'm the kind of person that once I decide to do something, I want it done NOW lol! If the do end up rescheduling again, threaten to go to another surgeon (even if you really won't). My guess is they won't mess with you again though.
Use this extra time to prep yourself. I too had to buy (and bring to surgery) my own post-surgery bra too, it's pretty common. I bought bras a few weeks before my surgery. I didn't have to worry about any return times for mine though. Unless they're telling you that you need a special type of surgical bra, don't spend a ton of money on one. My best ones were just front-close sports bras. They provide plenty of support. I got the cheap Fruit of the Loom ones from Walmart, and ordered some from Amazon. I did also order a couple surgery bras, but like I said, the sports ones were my go-to. This was my fave, and my nurse liked it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015QQVR0E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm 10 weeks post surgery and I still wear these. Have several colors.
Hang in there!!
Here's the link for the pouch if anyone interested: Yesito Mastectomy Drain Drainage Pouch with Shower Bag Drain Surgery Recovery Drainage Pouch Yesito Pink honeycomb lattice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T6LQ45S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XqXLFb9B6NYPG
I really recommend these, they made having drains less of a hassle and sometimes forgot they were there. The shower pouch also came in handy (I'd tie it around my neck). Very worth the money!
I went with a zip front, that was easiest for me. The bras also had a little clasp inside to make it easier to zip up if you’re trying to balance gauze/pads while you’re zipping up. I just got a few of these: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Essentials-Womens-Seamless-Zip-Front/dp/B079YK52TG
I bought 2 different sizes and switched depending on whether I wanted more compression or less. And since I knew these wouldn’t be my long term bras when the swelling went down, I didn’t feel bad spending 17 bucks on one. I also found afterwards that I could actually fit into more standard sizes and be comfortable, which kind of blew my mind even though that was the whole point of the surgery haha.
My surgeon told me to get compression bras, such as sports bras and def front close is necessary.
My surgery was this past Friday. I’ve been with my parents for the weekend, so they’ve been taking care of me. I go home today, and so I bought a couple of things in advance:
I put all gatorades/waters/ginger ales in my fridge on a waist high shelf.. and I bought some frozen meals for stuff I could just pull out easily and make for myself. My favorite thing to snack on when I got home from the hospital were Mini saltines. Also, make sure you have stool softener. And someone else suggested throat drops. My throats been a little scratchy since surgery due to the breathing tube they put in.
I also did little things around my house. Phone chargers at least waist high. Made sure my house was clean because people will be coming in and out.
I didn’t buy nice bras because you’re so swollen it takes (from what I’ve heard 6-8 weeks for the swelling etc to go down.) But, I did have to order 3 additional compression bras from Amazon (and I highly recommend doing that before surgery). I don’t have drains and the drainage/blood has soaked through my compression bra in some spots.
I’d also make sure you have some loose button down shirts. I had to buy a few of those.
Good luck on your surgery!!
Edit: here is link for compression bras. You’ll be in these for at least 6 weeks.
Hi! One day post op, I bought 4 fruit of the loom bras on amazon, they came in two packs and I got different colors and figured I could use them later for the gym and what not. I also bought some short sleeve button up pajamas with matching shorts. The first night I just wore boxers and no shirt. Now I’m wearing a zip up hoodie but will probs take it off for bed.
Here’s the pjs, super soft!!!
Seaside Womens Short Sets AMP005... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HCVNYM2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Almost there! This is the bra I saw most recommended in my research, and now that I own it I have to say I agree! It’s comfortable and supportive, and easy to get on. There are different variations of it- like how the back looks, but this is what I got. In terms of sizing, someone noted on here to measure the fullest part of your breast, NOT your band size. For example, I am a 34 band, but bought this in a size 40. So you may have to wait until post op to order. Amazon had free one day shipping for me so it was no issue- hopefully if you decide to buy you have the same luck! 😄
Fruit of the Loom Women's Front... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072MNMZC9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Here's a set I bought on Amazon that is similar but a little less $$.
this isn’t officially a “sports bra” but i’ve been wearing them for the last few days (post op) and i think they would work great as sports bras! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HZV198/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I like the rolling cart idea, I did something similar. I thought of all the things I'd need that might be too high or low to reach and put them on a counter: towels, dishes, wipes, dry shampoo, medications, bras, etc.
Have you got your wedge or pregnancy pillow yet? That's a must have.
Have fiber supplements or laxatives if you get constipated from the medications.
I'd make sure you've got at least 2 post op bras so you can wear one while you wash the other.
If I could go back, I'd get one of those bum wiping wands. During my first week of recovery it was hard to reach around without discomfort. You might want a wand since you're getting the tummy tuck too.
Keep your Netflix/Hulu/etc. subscriptions, you'll be resting a bunch.
Hope that helps! 😄
I started at a 30H UK, and I’m now measuring at a 30E at 15 days post op. I’ve been wearing these in a 34 and these in a medium. The fruit of the loom bras are super comfy but honestly a little tight sometimes. I’ve thought about ordering more in a 36 but at this point my swelling is going down to the point that it doesn’t bother me. The wanayou bras are super comfy and definitely tight enough without being constricting. If you expect to still be around a 30G the wanayou in a medium would probably work for you, the fruit of the loom might be too tight in a 34 but might work well in a 36. Both of these options are super cheap, too! I have some before and after pictures in my post history if it’s helpful to you. Good luck!
I’ve been wearing this one:
Fruit of the Loom Women's Front Close Builtup Sports Bra https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JX72S24/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_z6enFb69DP21J
it’s comfortable and very inexpensive. And can go in the washer which is good because I’m still having some weeping from some spots.
I have used this one for binding in the past, and now I’m using a slightly bigger one just as a supportive bra while waiting for surgery. For binding I ordered MANY sizes down and it’s still not too uncomfortable. Right now (for not binding, just bra purposes) I’m wearing a 3xl which is meant for ~42D, and I’m a 40H. It would probably still be pretty supportive at actually the correct size, lol.
There is this wedge pillow: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GFP6XCD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KTLhFb6R313P1
It’s expensive but I got it for $30 off Facebook so check around for gently used pillows:
This is the pregnancy body pillow:

I also will be using an airplane neck pillow and a pillow under my knees. I wish you all a comfortable back sleep my lovelies 💖💘💕💟
Hi there! I'm one week post-op. The worst of the pain for me was days 2,3,4. I was taking my percoset pretty routinely. I mostly felt it as burning from the nerves, mixed with a sore and tight feeling from the swelling, but the percoset kept me pretty comfy! But now I realized I haven't taken or needed one in several days, and I've just used Tylenol twice in the past 24 hours for some mild soreness. For the surgical bras, I found a 3 pack on Amazon for less than ten bucks a piece. They are super soft, padded to cushion your nipples, and lightly compressive. I based off their sizing chart for my Pre-Surgery size since I knew I'd be swollen, and they are working fine at the moment. https://www.amazon.com/Womens-Sports-Wireless-Post-Surgery-Active/dp/B01M4RQH83
Other than that, a big water bottle you can keep handy, some protein bars, easy snacks - you may not feel too hungry for meals, but your body will need the calories for healing Hope that helps! Good luck, you've got this!
On mobile-sorry for formatting.
For reference I am 30 5'7" and 160lbs
I'm currently 7 days post op. I went from a G/DDD to a C(ish) I did not have drains- day one I was leaking everywhere like crazy but it was more clear/yellow fluid with a tiny bit of blood that made it more pink than anything. The left leaked A LOT while the right didn't do much of anything. Because of the constant leaking I noticed that I don't have any scabs on the left. The right on the other hand has a lot of dried blood/scabs.
After day two the crazy leaking slowed down to a more manageable amount- I would change gauze underneath every 8 hours-by day 4 the leaking is minimal. Day 5 no more leaks!
I have good amount of bruising all along Incision areas and I notice the boob that didn't leak is more bruised than the left. (Bruises are more yellow now)
I didn't put on a surgical bra until day 4 during my post op- I was just in bandages. I hated the bra they put me in since it irritated my incisions. I bought my own bras from amazon. There is extra thick padding on the undersides and sides that kind of put a barrier between the band and your Incisions.
My doctor recommended to keep the bra on constantly over the next few weeks- if need be she told me up to two hours at a time was ok to let them "air out"
I'm not putting anything on my incisions- just leaving then be until the doctor tells me to start scar treatment.
Here's the bra that works for me:
Sorry, was on mobile earlier! So I'm 5 months post-op, went from a 38 (or possibly 40) H in U.S. sizing to a 38C. I'm still getting used to clothing my new boobs, been mostly wearing my comfy post-op sports bras so this was my first cute purchase. This is the bralette. I got it in XL. :)
