I actually use a free desktop video editing software to pull the clip and crop it to get good resolution. Then I take the mp4 into https://ezgif.com/ to do further cropping and optimization and make the gif.

You can do most of this in EZgif that I think works on mobile, you just won't get the best resolution for the final gif.
