for spf to be effective you need to apply 1/4 tsp of sunscreen product.
this amount of sunscreen is ok for most but that amount of a moisturizer with spf can feel too greasy or heavy especially if you have oily skin. most people using moisturiser with spf won't end up using enough so won't get enough protection.
I recommend using a lightweight gel moisturiser and a separate sunscreen like la Roche posay Shaka fluid, etude House sunproof, or biore watery essence
It's not MATTE but altruist SPF50 is quite non greasy and non white cast-y and quite affordable https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Altruist-Dermatologist-Sunscreen-SPF-50/dp/B06X6LZWRC/
If you don't like the mild sheen then you could put pressed powder on top.
I have the exact same skin type as you, and I use The Alturist SPF50 which is very affordable at £7.50 for two 100ml tubes. It’s developed by a dermatologist: Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF 50 - high UVA protection, 100 ml (2 x 100 ml) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06X6LZWRC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_N-GYAb9ZMQCXS
It’s not matte but it doesn’t make my skin feel greasy either because it sinks in quickly. I’ve had no issues with breaking out from it too.
May help if you have callouses, but it’s really not necessary.
Replace your hand soap with something more gentle, and use a hand cream immediately every time you wash your hands. Look for one with urea, that will be really effective at softening dry skin.
This is what I use https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0085U7Y06
Make sure you take the time to really massage the cream into your cuticles, especially before bed.
It's hard to say for me, as I am currently on a mission to try and then optically test every affordable sunscreen I can find, but I don't think I get through crazy amounts as I'm just putting it on my face and don't normally expose much skin.
Altruist SPF50 is relatively affordable and relatively non greasy & hypoallergenic https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Altruist-Dermatologist-Sunscreen-SPF-50/dp/B06X6LZWRC/ and there's a £5 off £25 spend on certain sunscreens sold directly by Amazon, including this and Ultrasun (decently light physical sunscreen, can put it on your eyelids).
The SPF30 is proportionally cheaper but I think it's noticeably greasier and the texture isn't quite as nice.
You only need to reapply every 2 hours of sun exposure, so say you walk to and from work
I just discovered that the NHS will prescribe sunsense 'ultra' sunscreen up to 500ml (normally £20-£33), so that's worth looking into getting via prescription https://www.sunsense.co.uk/product/sunsense-ultra-spf50/
Boots has the shine control one https://www.boots.com/nivea-sun-uv-face-suncream-spf-50-shine-control-50ml-10242721 (click & collect is free)
Amazon directly sells Altruist year-round https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Altruist-Dermatologist-Sunscreen-SPF-50/dp/B06X6LZWRC/ (mildly shiny but I find it fine with pressed powder)
ALTRUIST. Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF 50 – Superior 5-star UVA protection by Dr Andrew Birnie, suitable for sensitive skin - 2 x 100 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06X6LZWRC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Y69JBF8FRSPP7T46N33D?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
If that’s too thick you can try the face fluid which is more lightweight and also cheap!
2 Superdrug kids solait- even cheaper
I have oily acne prone skin, with rosacea and hormonal spots along my chin. These do not break me out and I have looked at the ingredients on insidecoder and nothing seems to be comegenic.
I use Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish Sun Milk SPF50 and like it! But not sure if it’s similar to Kiehl’s I’m afraid.
Slight redness shouldn't be a normal response to cleansing! Not at all. I know it's a bit of a pain, but could you list out what products you're using? Or is it only the cetaphil?
You could try oil free and see if it helps, but unfortunately (even if you worked with a GP/derm) figuring out what works for you takes patience, trial and error! If it's spreading and becoming a real issue (physically and emotionally) I'd make an appointment with your GP. The NHS is a resource too, don't be afraid to use it!
What I can suggest is try avoiding sodium laureth sulfate in your cleansing (toothpaste and shampoo) products for a while, see if that helps cut down on the hormonal acne? I used to have big angry welts on my chin/ jaw area every time of the month, and cutting out SLS from toothpaste and face wash REALLY did wonders.
Right, I really don't need to provide a source for this, because it's well within the realm of common knowledge, but this paper discusses that you shouldn't take oral antibiotics -specifically referencing Lymecycline - for more than 6 months because
A. By this point, you have depleted sensitive strains of bacteria and promoted overgrowth of resistant strains. Promoting antibiotic resistance is a problem for the individual and society as a whole.
B. There is 'little benefit in using [lymecycline] for >3 months
Does a comprehensive review in the European Journal of Dermatology suit you better?
Oh I’m sorry! Do they not sell simple products on amazon? In that case the cleanser I found that worked well was this one;
Avene Tolerance Extreme Cleansing Lotion 200ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002D48QVG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QC19HP017R2EG33VXBKP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Only a few ingredients including squalane, and nothing comegenic either. This is good for dry skin acne prone skin. Can you get this one in Greece?
I like this one, which is available next day delivery from Amazon.
Jolse is generally my goto for getting hold of Korean skincare, they have free shipping if you don't mind a slightly longer wait (though I've found things arrive in about 2 weeks) http://jolse.com/product/cosrx-low-ph-good-morning-gel-cleanser-150ml/6250/?cate_no=371&display_group=1
I also like the hado-labo foaming facial cleanser which is Japanese, but can easily be brought from amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hada-Labo-Gokujyn-Hyaluronic-Cleansing/dp/B01CE5P580/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1512656452&sr=8-1&keywords=hada+labo+rohto+gokujyn+hyaluronic+acid+cleansing+foam
Altruist SPF50 has very little white cast and is very affordable, nice non greasy feel. I've read darker toned people use this one without issue, though if you're very dark then it may leave a hint of grey on you.
£7.50 for 2x 100ml tubes on Amazon. Note that SPF30 has much more of a white cast than the SPF50, so probably avoid the 30.
(Disclaimer: I'm a very pale white girl.)
You're welcome! Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner--the life of a toddler mum.
Not sure if you are familiar, but the Japanese and South Korean toners are great for adding moisture. Amazon carries some of the more popular ones like
Hada Labo Premium Etude House Soon Jung Relief Toner
But if those don't appeal to you, the best way to choose one is to look for something that contains ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid (or sodium hylauronate), or urea, and avoid anything with alcohol (or ethanol) and/or fragrance.
I'm in Ireland too and bought Altruist from Amazon. Its a light texture, but more like a moisturiser. Its cheap (that price is for 2!) so might be worth a go? I use it on my 7 year old who has extremely sensitive/dry skin.
I also really like the Biore UV Aqua Rich. I dont find it drying at all, it feels like water on my skin. Comes from Japan, it took 2 weeks to get to me in Ireland.
I don't know if there are any UK specific brands and I'm still on the lookout because I'm sure there must be! However, I've recently got the Etude House Sunprise one from Amazon, and I'm liking it so far. I'm 90% sure it's a physical blocker, and reef safe. Little to no white cast, and I'm brown so it would definitely show up. The downside is the price and the fact that it came wrapped in a tonne of plastic when it was delivered. Pretty sure the K beauty stores in/around Chinatown may carry it but I've heard their prices are hiked way way up.
Sure!
Face halo (more pricey!) https://www.beautybay.com/p/face-halo/pro-make-up-remover-pads/?ctyid=gb&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx4v1uqLT4gIV5b_tCh08JwihEAQYAiABEgK4_vD_BwE
Amazon bamboo round https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remover-3-15inch-Reusable-Washable-Cleansing/dp/B07H865HM5/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=bamboo+round&qid=1559769627&s=gateway&sr=8-4
Can’t vouch for the amazon ones but the face halos have been great! I’ve washed them at least 10 times and they’ve actually just gotten softer and haven’t fallen apart at all.

I would’ve use the glycolic acid from the ordinary 2 times a week and add Azelaic acid. Amazon sale a very good serum with a very affordable price
Azelaic Acid 10% Facial Serum with Niacinamide - Fast Rosacea Skin Care Product + Reduce Cystic Acne Scar + Redness Relief Face + Pimple Pigmentation Blackhead, Alcohol Free, 1oz (30ml) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QM5KGDK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Z9CHPNYXCR08NMHVWZSV
You can add it to your routine slowly until your skin get use to it. Preferably with your PM routine.
Yes, I got my portable adult size UV blocking parasol from Amazon. The light outer layer reflects most of the UV light while the dark inner layer absorbs any remainder. People are always asking where I got it from!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D7F28JQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_P7D8YH9M09ABC4J9SS0Y
I just started using this Nivea sunscreen and it's super lightweight. It feels like Japanese sunscreens. In fact, the Biore watery sunscreens leave me shinier than using 1/4 tsp of this Nivea one. I have normal to dry skin as well. Really high protection.
Edit: I haven't tried it under makeup yet though.
No it probably isn't. Try this instead https://www.amazon.co.uk/QV-363-9168-Gentle-Wash-500ml/dp/B0085U7Y06 it's done wonders for my eczema/sensitive skin. Eucerin do a great body wash too.
Also, there's no real reason to use soap on your arms/legs/torso every day, most people's bodies just don't need that level of washing, unless you've gone hiking or something. Use a body wash to the important areas ie armpits, groin etc, but just water is probably fine for the rest.
And make sure you apply the cream immediately after washing.
Cerave Moisturizing Lotion is £10 on Amazon. If you live in London you can have it delivered by tomorrow evening for free using the Amazon Prime trial. You might also be able to be in some shops in the UK, I don't know.
This moisturiser has a 5/5 rating on Paula's Choice's beautypedia. I have it myself and it's really good, in my opinion one of the best moisturisers you can buy in the UK.
You could also order the Paula's Choice moisturiser from their website. It would take a few days to get to you, though.
I don't really know of anything similar. For gentle exfoliating, I like Skinfood's Rice Mask, it's currently £7.99 on Amazon Prime or if you don't mind waiting you can get sample sachets on eBay for about £4.
You can still get it on Amazon and set it to have it delivered regularly if you like :)
I don't think there are "cheap" and good looking ones to buy...I have looked for the same. The smart looking airless pumps on Amazon aren't cheaper than Muji, but I am a fan of airless pump. I had some products that used airless pump from long time ago that I repurpose. They kind of look like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0722K8LKJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3ImUAbC7ZP27F
Except mine are silver. So best bet would be to find some nice products that have similar bottles, use it up and reuse the bottle so you don't feel like you're paying extra for plastic. I use these for liquid toner products and decanting that SCINIC honey jar.
For the creams I use contact lense cases and those tiny eye cream pots.
Hey there. I am in Germany at the moment and it’s in the pharmacy called Rossmann here. I use the SPF 25 sometimes and really like it. I did a quick google search and it’s on Amazon UK.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neutrogena-City-Shield-Hydration-Lotion/dp/B074P89GQX
Link to Amazon Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk (SPF50 PA ++++) 40mL https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MRBST6H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8ORABb1A8E3E4
I just received my first bottle. Definitely absorbs very well.
>yellow Eco suncream by the Saem
This one ? Is it a Korean product? Where do you buy it from?
The one on that Amazon link costs £17 for 50 grams, and is only PA+++, ie it offers less UVA protection that what an SPF50 should provide based on EU rules.
Ultrasun do nice physical-only sunscreens, but they can be expensive. They're quite light and non white casty, a couple are on the £5 off £25 spend on Amazon offer
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ultrasun-Family-SPF30-100-ml/dp/B01BKF2KHE
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ultrasun-50-SPF-Extreme-100/dp/B01BKF2K0G
They sometimes appear in TK maxx or on eBay for a much more reasonable price.
If you’re open to using Asian skincare products, they have tons of gentle/low ph ones! I use the Hada Labo Foaming Cleanser which I buy off Amazon UK https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CE5P580/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_LnKgDbPRZGDBE you can also head over to r/AsianBeauty and search for low ph cleansers if you’re interested!
Yes, these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CXYT17C I cannot overstate how much of a difference they’ve made to my sleep, and my eye comfort when using screens.
Caffeine serums and creams may potentially reduce the puffiness, and yeh you can keep them in the fridge.
The Boots Ingredients is great, and very affordable. I generally don’t like eye creams, but if you want to use caffeine then this is a decent option.
Excellent answer, I completely agree, if I applied the correct amount of SPF to protect my face in the form of a BB Cream I would look ridiculous. Better to have a dedicated spf so that you can apply around 1/4 teaspoon to face ears neck then put bb cream or foundation on top. I have tried the Superdrug spf you are talking about and it is very good. I can only compare it with Altruist though since I usually use that. It is lighter than Altruist and sits well under make up. It is extremely affordable too. I have seen lots of people say Nivea Shine control spf is their HG on here, I might have to give it a go! Is it this one that you use?
I’ve also seen this BB cream?here I thought it could be layered on top for some coverage. Anyone tried it?
EDIT: I just saw that nivea has perfum in, which may not matter to some people but it sets off my rosacea. I love the Superdrug one and altruist face fluid (their new sunscreen which is lighter than their cream). I am tempted to try the P20 kids one though now, I’ve heard good things!!
Yes! I’ve tried a few including Murad/Paula’s Choice and it’s ok but too expensive and I get freaky if I accidentally drop some down the drain in the shower. So I found this cheap salicylic acid scrub bar on Amazon which has over 2000 4.5*+ reviews and is only a fiver. Gave it a shot - bloody brilliant. You need to moisturise like hell after as it is quite intense. Spots on my shoulders? GONE. It’s called Revitale Salicylic Acid Scrub.
Packaging is a bit dodge but meh.
It sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out: an oil cleanser! I used to have terrible blackheads and I swear the first time I used an oil cleanser, half those bad boys just popped out as I was washing my face!
The theory, in my layperson's understanding, is that the clean, light oil replaces the gunky thick oil in the pores, so your skin stays nice and moist but unblocked. A lot of "oily" skin is a consequence of drying cleansers causing your skin to produce too much oil (similar to oily hair from overwashing) . I had (have?) combination skin but my oil cleanser keeps it in balance.
The brand I used in my magical/gross blackhead-excising moment is discontinued (it was by L'Oreal and if you find any bottles, guaranteed they're ancient!) but I currently use a cheapy one from Amazon and it leaves my skin lovely and soft. It has vitamin C in it, which helps to even out the skintone. SuperFacialist Vitamin C+ Brightening Cleansing Oil. It's frequently below £7 and I use 5 drops at a time so the 200ml bottle lasts months. I also apply it before brushing my teeth, so it has a good 2.5 minutes to work its magic!
I was looking for the same a while back and ended up with this instead. Think I'm on my 4th one now.
Tan eraser mitts. I got something cheap at The Range. Same material as the Italy towels.
It's gone up in price, 100 ml for £22. Ultrasun extreme.
A lot of people use this brand too+ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Altruist-Dermatologist-Sunscreen-Fluid-SPF/dp/B086VR76TB/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=34BN3BPKH7J54&keywords=altruist+sunscreen+spf+50&qid=1665098373&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjg0IiwicXNhIjoiMS42MSIsInFzcCI6IjEuNTIifQ%3D%3D&s...
All sunscreens with Avobenzone will turn your white t-shirts yellow when you wash them. I wear La Roche-Posay ultra fluid every day (because it's the only one that doesn't make me look like a glazed donut) and have horrid ring-around the color stains on my T-shirts after I wash. It's because avobenzone leaves a rust stain (literally)....BUT THERE IS A SOLUTION....
Iron OUT Spray Gel Rust Stain Remover (amazon link) - spray this on the collars (or where the stain is, for just a few seconds and rinse out and then wash. Will look like brand new. Warning though, the spray is quite strong, use in a well ventilated area or you will mustard gas yourself.
I think the problem with these shampoos that are designed for itcht and flaky scalps (and i know because I get psoriasis on the scalp and around the hair line) is that they can cause dryness. Your skin tries to overcompensate by producing more sebum which makes you want to wash your hair more. I think based on what you've said, your hair is probably very porous as well, so residue builds up on your hair leaving it feeling heavy and sticky.
You'd probably benefit from using a clarifying shampoo to 'reset' your hair and get rid of any build up left over from the various shampoos - something like this one from L'oreal - follow up with a hair mask, any type will do, there's loads on the shelves of supermarkets. Finally follow up with a leave in conditioner like this one.
On the second & third day, just use the leave in conditioner after your shower. Then use your medicated shampoo followed by your normal conditioner, and the leave in conditioner on the next couple of days. Ideally you want to get to a point where you only use the medicated stuff one day a week and the clarifying shampoo the other week, and the leave in conditioner every other day.
The other thing to mention is that to use these things sparingly - you only need a 10p piece worth on short to medium hair and twice as much on long hair. For the leave in conditioner 4 or 5 pumps is sufficient. Hope this helps :)
8 tips to get rid of bloated face from a dermatologist
It's all individual, of course, as there may be other underlying causes for each individual, but for me it's the cold compresses that work best. You can DIY with fabric and ice water or you could buy special reusable masks that you put in the fridge and use them cold in the morning, something like this
Yup! Here is an amazon link that has a picture showing the difference. I know it's a commercial page rather than scientific, but it matches with what else I've read.
Holy crap, this is so expensive!!! I’ve been treating my father and myself at home (dad had very bad brown leathery sun burn patch 50p size just above his temple/ thin white vertical scar with pitting and deep from cut between my own eyebrows) and I got similar to this Derma Stamp
Ultrasun Face SPF30 for day to day use in UK sun. Goes on like a dream, absorbs quickly and is moisturising enough not to need additional moisturiser. Most of all I love the tech in the product, its UVA filters provide 90% protection compared to the EU standard of 33%, which is the UV ray that causes photodamage.
Deal of the day: L'Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Hyaluronic Acid + Aloe Liquid Hydrating Moisturiser, Rehydrating and Reinvigorating Face Serum for Normal to Combination Skin [70ml] https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0719JSTSP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dl_0BFNSX5YD1QNP74K1CVV
This is great I’ve been using it for almost a year now and it’s done wonders for my face my forehead and cheeks were so dry and flaky it relieved it almost instantly and haven’t had dry skin since. Any water based moisturiser will help you though. Hopefully you find one that helps 💜
It’s just a brand I found on Amazon, 500mg a day Magnesium 500mg, 90 Vegan Tablets. 3 Months Supply. Supports Muscle and Bone Health. Vegan and Vegetarian Formula. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y2HS8L8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AZZJG1EZ7VHWT7SM8Q6Y?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have been very consistent with it. I just cannot put my finger on anything else that could be improving my skin, it’s the only change to my daily routine!
I use Banana Boat baby sunscreen
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Banana-Boat-Advanced-Protection-Lotion/dp/B073HDYMJF
So many expensive sunscreens made me breakout (Inc LRP) but saw this recommended on this sub and love it! Cheap, lasts forever and goes into my skin nicely with no white caste
Tip for future lurkers: you can buy a portable water softener like this and connect it to your shower, even in a rental. It may not be the most elegant looking thing, sitting next to the shower, but it will do the job. Small shower filters will work fine for sediment/chlorine/heavy metals/etc but will not reduce hardness.
A 16,000 grain unit like the one above, running a shower, will easily last 1-2 weeks. It's "manual" in that you will have to regenerate it yourself, but that's not such a big deal. Fill it with saltwater, let it sit, and backflush it. Takes all of 10 minutes of your time every two weeks. Something to think about!
I'd stick with what you've got for at least 6-8 weeks; both products are good for what you are trying to achieve but like everything in life, just take a bit of time to see the results. Unfortunately consistency is key - its like going the gym to get a 6 pack - if you only go once a week and don't commit to a routine you're not going to get the results you want.
If you really feel like you need an extra boost, try this Murad AHA/BHA exfoliating cleanser. (I've linked the travel size which will last you a couple of months if used twice a week). This has a physical as well as a chemical exfoliator in the form of jojoba beads, and the AHA/BHA will help clear out sebum production and blocked pores. Just use a pea sized amounts on the areas that feel congested, massage well into dampened skin for a good minute, then rinse. Only use twice a week in order to prevent over-exfoliation. Good luck :)
I love this one by purito. I have super SUPER dry skin that is pretty sensitive and feel like every moisturizer is too thin. This ones a little richer than cereve and better ingredients!
So I am someone that also has fine hair, and worse than just being fair it's mostly grey so I'm always conscious of my scalp in the sun. Have suffered the horror of scalp sunburn and, almost worse than sunburn, the horror of looking like I'd dipped my head in a chip pan after using the supposedly "non greasy" Soltan scalp/parting sunscreen spray.
Anyway my point is I've spent a lot of time on Google looking for solutions and there's a couple of products I've found that you might be interested in trying (I keep meaning to but just not getting around to it).
First one is the Supergoop Part Powder, it's SPF35, specifically designed for partings and it's a mineral based powder so I'd imagine if it has any effect on hair it'd be most similar to dry shampoo! The link is to the website Revolve which is legit and ships internationally (Cult Beauty stock some Supergoop but not that particular product).
The second which looks like a more accessable similar option is the Hawaiian Tropic mineral sun protection powder which, while it's designed for the face, seems to be a similar ish type of product and one that I've seen in store in my local Boots.
Apologies for the lengthy comment, just trying to show solidarity to a fellow scalp burn sufferer!
I'd maybe recommend CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion, its spf 25 and is a relatively cheap at £12 so not too bad, I will link it on Amazon for you, pretty sure you can get next day delivery aswell!
I think someone else said it but I would really recommend Face theory Clarifying Cleanser! Its on amazon and is very reasonable! I will link it below.

I'm a big fan of Ameliorate products for my KP. I use this soap bar to exfoliate in the shower focusing on my legs and arms and as soon as I get out and I use the Ameliorate transforming body lotion on my legs and arms. Have repurchased so much I now get the big bottle with the pump.

Possibly La Roche-Posay ultra fine scrub may work well for you. It usually works with sensitive skin and is pretty reasonable. You should be able to get it at boots or other retailers but if not you can get it on Amazon for cheap! I will link the scrub on amazon for you.
Cerave is always a go to, not sure how it would be on your skin if its slightly sensitive, but most Cerave cleansers seem to work great for most people! I found a few on amazon for around £10 so its a more reasonable price point, I can link one that may be something that would work best for you!
I really like the Murad AHA/BHA exfoliating cleanser - note it is pricy but a little goes a long way and as its a wash off product it works well with tret if you use it in the morning.
I incorporate stronger acids into my routine by taking one night off the tretinion (normally Sundays) and using this night for them. It gives me really good results this way :)
First of all, try to be kinder to yourself and your skin. The white stuff is not dirt, it is dead skin cells. Treat your skin like a recovering patient, not like an disobedient enemy.
Not sure what shampoo you are using, but it may be not cleansing/ exfoliating enough, so dead skin cells are building up. Also, scalp needs to be moisturised, just like the skin on your face. If you wash it too often in an attempt to make it "cleaner", you may be overdoing it, making it too dry. For some people, the scalp goes into the other extreme, it becomes too oily, too fast. When skin is too dry, sometimes the skin will start overproducing oil in an attempt to compensate for the dryness.
Why don't you give a try to "As I Am"'s line of products for dry and itchy scalp? Lots of great results and it may just work for you.
https://asiamnaturally.com/collections/dry-and-itchy
As for Nizoral, I found it too drying myself and switched to a clarifying shampoo to give a deeper cleansing. Like Shea Moisture Black Castor Oil Shampoo. It is clarifying gently, without drying the scalp.
SHEA MOISTURE JAMAICAN BLACK CASTOR OIL HAIR STRENGTHENING KIT (NO Sulphates,NO Paraben,No Mineral Oil, No Animal Testing) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09L329TMS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_JBNZV4VNVK1DFMKQR7B2
Definitely a sun screen specific for your face. I’m using this at the moment:
Garnier Ambre Solaire Anti-Dark Spots & Anti-Pollution Super UV Protection Fluid SPF50 + 40 ml https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08699BTLW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3VZXWE591KWCYM0N3T50?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Other than that, probably nothing too dissimilar from your current routine if that’s already working for you.
Hope you have an amazing time! :)
I get it, it's not easy! I was very insecure about my skin too for a long time. Looking at more "normal" people more often is what helped me the most. And I guess as I aged I started giving a bit less fucks about it too.. I'm not old though, I'm 31 lol
But in my early twenties I was obsessed about my skin and that slowly faded over the years.
Your neck seems healthy to me, these bumps could be because of shaving? If you do shave you can try TenderSkin - that stuff is magic for my bf's razor bumps! And it works on mine too for my armpits.
As you age your face does change a bit, it is going to get a bit thinner and you can notice it is a bit less plumped, that does not mean there is a problem with it and that it is not beautiful.
> I do see many people on the day to day with very perfect skin though which is upsetting.
I guarantee you their skin isn't perfect but you don't notice the imperfections as much. Just like everyone around you don't notice your imperfections.
Makeup is also a big one. Good makeup can be subtle but it's still makeup.
If you want to dig a bit deeper, maybe the extra bumps and itchiness is due to you suddenly becoming allergic or intolerant to something you consume a lot? I know my mom used to clean using the same product for years and one day it started giving her a big rash, all of a sudden. She became allergic to it and had to switch brands.
I myself cannot swim in a pool with a lot of chlorine now, I used to swim a lot and last year I started getting small red bumps all over my arms and legs after I've been in a pool. Again, no notice. Just WOOSH, now my body doesn't like that :|
Maybe dairy or chocolate or meat or something you consume a lot is now not sitting well with your skin.
Oil cleansers are a type of cleanser, there are plenty available, but the current brand that I use is literally the cheapest on Amazon - Super Facialist Skin Renew Cleansing Oil. It also has vitamin c which is great for healing up any blemishes.
This is only my experience and I haven't seen a lot of other comments regarding blackheads, but I think most people agree that it really evens out the dry zones vs t-zones. It is cheap and gentle, though, so definitely worth a try!
Good luck to your daughter!
The Somerset Toiletries does a nice hand cream that is cruelty-free and vegan.
Naturally European Luxury Hand Cream Gift Set - Ginger & Lime, Verbena, Freesia & Pear Set 3 x 30ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OJ1WYV4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_6Q24T9PN06V8ZEXDW3G2
Oil cleansers are like magic, as far as I'm concerned. I first used one when I had a breakout of blackheads and those bad boys just went PING out of my skin the first time I used it. I don't want to misquote the science, but my jumbled layman's understanding of oil cleansers is that they basically replace the stogdy gunked up oil with fresh, clean oil, so the pores stay moist but unblocked. Repeat daily and the moisture balance stays right where it should.
On my legs, I got immediate relief upon application the first time and I think things looked pretty moist after about three days (incl. the moisturiser). In terms of healing up the darker marks, that took longer but I think the vitamin C, massaging in the lotion etc. probably helps clear it up.
I've used a few different oil cleansers over the years and I can't say one brand is definitively better than the others. I used to love L'Oreal's one (the aforementioned zit-pinger) but it has been discontinued. The one I'm currently using is Super Facialist with Vitamin C.
Vaseline Intensive Care Essential Healing is the exact name, it appears. That's a lot of words for "moisturiser"!
Best of luck with your skin!
Sounds like what you're dealing with is Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). Googling that should help, but vitamin C is a fantastic product for this issue. I like Melano CC spot treatment by Rohto, it's cheap and works. Exposure to UV will delay the spots resolving so take care if you're outdoors. Products containing arbutin might also be helpful, I really like this moisturising toner for PIH
It is a good idea to check that what you have is PIH and not PIE (Erythema) which is a different problem with the small blood vessels in that area and is highly resistant to treatment. To test which it is, get a drinking glass, stand in front of the mirror and squish it against one of your spots. If the spot disappears it is likely PIE.
A good, consistent daily outine is important, giving your skin enough moisture and support to heal up. Good luck :)
What about one of these no-slip sports headbands?
There are a lot of not-great rose toners out there. If yours includes “fragrance” or “parfum” it’s not a traditional rosewater and can be irritating to skin.
For example, Boots used to sell a ‘real’ rosewater but their current product (called Rose Water & Glycerine or something similar) is not. Heritage Rose Water (which you can find on Amazon but lots of other retailers also sell it) is the real stuff.
They're all basically the same, so whatever you feel like, but this is the kind I've used and been very happy with: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08JLP43X3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I think the reason you're more or less safe with whatever is that they all basically just suck up moisture from the pore, which for whatever reason draws out pus. Honestly I couldn't believe the amount of gunk they're able to pull out of a pore, they completely get rid of those ungetriddable spots.
What the actual fuck, get a different GP.
IF you want to use light therapy (which seems to work for some people) get the blue and red LED thing from lumie or whatever, won’t give you skin cancer.

The dark / red “scars” are hyperpigmentation .. pigmentation worsens with sun exposure. If you want to help fade those, use sunscreen.
If you post your routine for help that’s probably a good first step. Something with salicylic acid usually helps with bacterial acne, otherwise doctors can prescribe benzoyl peroxide or other heftier stuff.
Do you know what cream you got previously?
I’ll be honest, I purchase mine from Amazon. The link is for a 2 pack - I’m sure you can find single bottles. 1 bottle easily lasted me 10-12 months. I’ve heard mixed things about the UK range of Hada Labo products, that the ingredient list differs and product isn’t quite the same.
Rohto Hadalabo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion 5.7floz/170ml 2 bottle set https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MR0LBNQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_WC7KQSFR220NE3ASBEVV
>The only sunscreen ingredients that are definitely safe are zinx oxide and titanium dioxide.
If you're referring to the American EWG, a spokesperson for the American Academy of Dermatology rubbished it big time.
If you're referring to other sources, I'd like to know what they are.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Award-Winning-Retinol-Serum-Hyaluronic-d%C3%A9collet%C3%A9/dp/B01LZAR4BL/
This is an absolute grail retinol serum as far as I'm concerned. If you don't have one in your PM rotation already then I highly recommend it. I've bought it off Amazon plenty of times and can confirm it's legit.
Neosporin is Germolene in UK. You can get it here on Amazon
Natura Siberica Professional Oblepikha Scalp Scrub for for All Hair Types with Organic Oblepikha Hydrolate, 200 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017T4CFDO/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_FV46Z4S0YDV42CY8G78V
This scalp scrub is really good.
I love this body scrub.
My apologies for seeing so late! You’re gonna want ones made for the face instead. Amazon has large ones under a brand called Mighty Patch. These
I use (this sun sense spf 50 one. I don't actually find it hugely moisturising but I like it as it has no flavour or scent (I hate how so many lip balms are vanilla flavoured) and it doesn't have a white cast.
I’ve struggled recently but I’ve found the Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Oil Control Cleansing Gel and Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Water Gel has helped a lot! I would also recommend a serum before the moisturiser that has either salicylic acid or niacianamide as that’s helped me. Good luck! 🙂

(Links for reference, maybe cheaper in Boots/Superdrug)
No experience dealing with it in particular myself and I'd recommend finding a derm, but I do have issues with uneven skintone from sun exposure it may be useful to know about Tranexamic Acid, which is something I found out about recently. It's a relatively new skincare ingredient which appears to work well at fading melasma. The linked studies are on an oral dose, but you can find a topical dose in Haba Labo Shirojyun Premium Lotion or Milk, which you can find on ebay for only about £10.
Just this one from Amazon UK. I didn’t specifically post this as a product review but as a chemical/acid-type review, but if anyone wants to try the one I’m using then here it is! :)
You can get them on Amazon.
Be warned they shrink like crazy. That's normal, it doesn't mean you have a defective or fake one. You have to try to stretch it out a bit when it dries, but it will never go back to the original size.
Moisturise as normal.
Sunscreen in the AM every day.
And to keep it simple and minimise steps I'd just use an exfoliating cleanser in place of a regular cleanser a few nights per week, like this glycolic acid cleanser - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DDPFILK/
Honestly finding an spf that has good protection while not feeling awful, doesn't break me out and isn't crazy expensive has been the bane of my existence!
If you have dry skin, Altruist SPF 50 is a good one to try. It's quite thick but no fragrance, alcohol etc. It does have a bit of a white cast so if you are a person of colour, it might not be right for you.
If you are more oily, Ambre Solaire have just created a face fluid that is similar to La Roche Posay Shaka that people like. It does have alcohol so be mindful if you're sensitive to this.
These are two that I'd say are affordable enough to try while you research the right spf for your skin type and price range.
Firstly, congratulations on taking the first steps on looking after your skin. Your skin will literally be with you for the rest of your life so the care and habits you build today can potentially be paying dividends in decades to come, so its worth the investment!
Secondly your skin like yourself is unique - seek out people who have similar skin to you but learning about your skin will be a personal journey. Like every journey it starts with small steps, so start small and build on your discoveries as you go.
I'm going to second those who say start with a cleanser, moisturiser and SPF. You might find Cerave SA (salicylic acid) smoothing cleanser a good choice as the SA helps to clean out oily pores and to save on pennies the Cerave moisturiser with SPF would suit for most days unless you're planning on spending a lot of time outdoors and then I'd look for a SPF 50+ (Garnier face fluid is good and pretty cheap). Both together will cost you around £20.
Thirdly I really recommend getting Caroline Hirons skincare book that explains in a simple, no nonsense way how to look after your skin and what / why / how of products and their ingredients. If you go on amazon you can pick this book up for just over £4 and its worth every single penny! link to amazon - click on the other purchase options for cheaper prices
Sorry to keep bothering you. It’s just that you’ve been so informative...
Do you think this would be a good one to get...
Wilkinson Sword Classic Double Edge Premium Men’s Metal Safety Razor with x5 Refill Blades https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07HM9D1BN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_BY94A4N5CDW94NZ4NKKP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Maybe Garnier Pure Active Matte Control, might work well for your oily skin! Can pick it up from Amazon for about £10, I’ll link it here if ur interested (link too moisturiser on Amazon)
I always use CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser, as it just works well with my oily skin and doesn’t seem to clog my pores, (link to face cleanser on Amazon)
Possibly the supergoop matte mineral sunscreen, as it’s great for sensitive skin so should work well for your skin type as it’s also very similar to mine! it’s expensive but the best sort of thing out there right now! (link too the sunscreen on amazon)
I would probably recommend Hydrocolloid Pimple Patches, to quickly clear up the painful ones on your chin! Dots for spots is what I mainly use when I need to clear up any large spots I may get. I can link the product on amazon if your interested!: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B087D6BC8S/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B087D6BC8S&linkCode=as2&tag=haco0b-21&linkId=db47b0a8a735bc4cef586089357a9ed5
I would personally go for the Misiki Foot Spa. It massages your feet and has a built in heater etc, so feels great and is good for foot pain too! It's on the pricey side but honestly with all the functions its definitely worth it. I can link the product here, you can get it cheapest on amazon: (Link too the product)
If that ones a little too expensive, I would also recommend the Hangsun Foot Spa: (Link too product here)
I'd recommend Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Daily Facial Cleanser. Its a hydrating face wash, and is made for sensitive skin, and is soap free, so should be very kind too your skin! (Link to amazon product if your interested)
I think I would personally recommend Garnier Pure Active moisturizer, its what I am currently using and seems to work well and sink into my skin. Plus, I am similar too you, my skin is very oily, but this seems to work well for me. I will link the product on amazon if you are interested: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00T57LWE2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B00T57LWE2&linkCode=as2&tag=haco0b-21&linkId=478a2ff9b6ce8c7b37b453091efeec8e
I hate to keep banging on about this sunscreen, as I made a post yesterday about it, but I use this sunscreen, it does contain Cetearyl Alcohol but in very small amounts and honestly just never breaks me out and I have very sensitive, acne prone skin. Its almost like a moisturizer too, so helps hydrate dry skin, but also works well with oily skin like mine! Here's the amazon link too it if your interested
