Yes, the charity already purchased hosting on Wordpress.com, thinking that was all they needed. Then they purchased a theme, and when I attempted to install it, found that they would have to pay another $300.00 / year to do so.
I have multiple Web servers and am more than willing to host the charity for free. If I can self-host and install the theme, the charity would still be out the sunk money, but that would be the end of their expenses.
I've installed WP a few times, but am far from an expert. But I can manage installing a theme and setting up some initial pages for them, as long as that will work on a self-hosted installation.
Thank you.
I'm not familiar with that specific theme myself but a great place to start with any theme is to look through the documentation. From the sounds of it, your issue might be with the page template you're using. https://wordpress.com/theme/rebalance
You can check this library with free 2021 WordPress themes and select something alike.
If you are not a developer, try installing Elementor as well to make your life easier with the templates. There is a great documentation here
Had a look at your website and your choice of colour scheme and the theme you used is simple but nice to look at and scroll through. It's consistent. Your website however did take awhile to load so optimising your website would be a good place to start off with. I am from the UK so that is one reason but if you want clients from around the world that's one thing to look at. Using the website gtmetrix: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/onlineentrepreneurstoday.com/SNPgGst9 it gives an I sight of your website, the loadspeed etc and if you register you can compare it load times in different countries.
To further improve you could add more pages explaining what you're about, what you do and what you're really about. In other words make an about us page and some services pages to sell yourself. You could put a page dedicated to your team and so on. It's a good place to start on for improvements.
Also, a lot of people use their phones and go on websites. Therefore making sure your website is responsive is something you can look at. Your logo was fairly small and you had some whitespace on the right side of the page meaning that your page wasn't stretched to fit the width of any screen. The drop down list icon was also very small on mobile as well.
Apart from these your website does the job. Adding more pages and optimising your page would be worth the time you put in improvement as some people would want to see more from your website to get in touch with you. It also helps for SEO as the extra content you put in with relevant key words would rank on the search engines
Not a problem. One thing that will help you a lot is downloading a proper editor and then formatting your code so it is easier to read. Download this:
https://code.visualstudio.com/
and then use it to code. You can format your code by clicking ctrl-k-f or command-k-f if on Mac. Or you can highlight your code and right click and tell it to format. Then you just take that code and copy and paste it into WP.
Also, I learned most of what I know through YouTube. From that, I have made a career out of this. If you have to go to YouTube to learn how to use visual studio code, I highly recommend it.
Many DNS lookups for all those styles and scripts in your code pointing to optimole.com making it slower than usual to load.
If you add some gzip compression to the rest, your site would score better

That's a nice looking website. As you may know, I don't think its WP.
https://builtwith.com/?https%3a%2f%2fwww.ideo.com%2f
I think you could get close using Divi. Good luck.
At that point-what are you going to need wordpress for?
Anyhow, the website is built using squarespace: https://builtwith.com/snarkitecture.com
But just make your own theme if that is the look you want. This is really simple as far as theme dev goes.
Hey there!
There are 2 ways you can install a theme on a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org):
Keep in mind that if you use WordPress.com, you won't be able to install any custom theme without a Business plan.

I am doing a migration of a wordpress.com blog using the cubic theme. I found that there are different customization options on the cubic theme in wordpress.com and on the personal site. is there any way to turn on the customization features seen in wordpress.com?
