That is some fine internet sleuthing.
Apparently they released an album in 2017 called Venite a Laudare (but you already knew that, didn't you?). I'm kind of worried about the "minstrel" part. I really love instrumental medieval music like this, but I find I'm not usually into the singing.
Edit: apparently that piece is called Canzonetta Tedesca and the singing on this album isn't so bad after all
Replying to main thread.
This is my station so far with your help, now I need to add in some french or possibly some other jazz fusion type stuff.
The words of the song have an interesting back story: (rough translation)
It is said that back sometime around the turn of the 9th century a famous Arab poet called Alasma’e was walking in the desert somewhere in Hejaz when he came across a rock with a line of poetry inscribed on it that said:
O people of passion by God tell me,
If passion settles in a man, what is he to do?
It was the custom of Arabs to reply to a verse of poetry with another, so Alasma’e, on the rock, wrote:
Attends to his passion then hide his secret,
And humbles himself to all things and submits,
The next day he passed the same rock and read:
Attend how if passion is fatal to man?
While each day his heart is fragmented,
So he inscribed in response:
If he cannot find patience to conceal his secret,
Then he has nothing better but death,
On the third day the poet passed the rock to find a young man’s dead body with the following final verses of the poem:
We heard and obeyed and then died,
So send my greetings to those who denied my affiliation,
May the opulent enjoy their riches,
While the poor lovers get what they receive.
Knesiyat Hasekhel (Church of Reason) is an Israeli rock band from the city of Sderot. Their name is a translation into Hebrew of Church of Reason, from Robert Pirsig's book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
This is not the original version of this song (though both versions are performed by the same band). Here's the original version, which is generally heavier, more rock-oriented, and less upbeat.
In any case, here are the lyrics-
כנסיית השכל - תנו לי לשתות
Throughout the night she bathed in moonlight
Brightness of the stars adhered into her hair
And an out-of-tune guitar, she calls it life
It played a single, clean chord...
Let me drink
Let me run away
Let me forget the eyes of my love
Let me drink
Let me escape
let me forget the eyes of my love
With the dawn she left for the horizon
All the birds silenced their song
I couldn't know back then, I couldn't understand
She played a single, clean chord...
Let me drink
Let me run away
Let me forget the eyes of my love
Let me drink
Let me escape
let me forget the eyes of my love
Throughout the night she bathed in moonlight
Brightness of the stars..
I found this song because of Madonna, he uses a sample from her song This Used To Be My Playground on this track. I think it's very good, I found that I remember it from time to time and seek it out again. The song title, Gde je moja lova, means 'Where is my money' in Serbian. It's on his 2004 album Ipak Se Obrće.
And if you actually go to youtube and click 'show more' you can see the full lyrics (and then translate the page to see what he's singing about).
