The 25th Anniversary Box comes with a hardcover of all the Akira Volumes, an Akira patch, plus a hardcover of the Akira Club art book.

Just looking at pictures of it opened is amazing. And just to let you know, the first few pages of the Manga are colored, and the rest are black and white (like the original release), it's not the American version of the printing with the full color and the extra drawn in sound effects like, "blam, blam", "Pow", "Ding", that would get in the way of the original art.

Apart from that, it looks like a nice jacket, but a bit outside the range I'd be willing to spend.

This isn't the exact version that I have, but I think this may be up your alley. This is probably the best in terms of raw picture quality and in the audio department if you don't care about file size.

As I've heard, HDR discs have been sent out recently, but please do know that people have had many issues with this release in the past.

Buy at your own risk. Personally, it doesn't make much of a difference compared to the 1080p Blu-ray - it's animation so it'll look very good regardless of 4K or not. I only recommend this if you want the best quality of all releases.

Fair warning though: the jacket is a tight fit (like most leather jackets) and and not loose or baggy like in the movie.

I know you said he has the manga, but he may not have the 35th anniversary version. It is the best English language version, with the original right-to-left reading order, a new translation, original hand-drawn sound effects, a hard-cover binding, and the Akira Club art book.

This came out recently, not sure if it’s the kind of thing he might like.

If you purchased it from the current Special Edition US listing sold directly from Amazon(the stock image shows an Australian version cover for some reason, but it's the US release) it should be the fixed version. I ordered from that listing on Thursday, it arrived yesterday and is indeed the fixed version with HDR. I watched it earlier. The 4k disc will have this number on it DV-10359AR1 2137022, and on the front sticker it will say "Does not include digital copy" even though the back card mentions it.

These jackets are ass so shut the fuck up. They look tacky, lack originality, let alone any effort in the design and look horribly cheap. I’ve seen the same fucking design at least 4 years ago. This is the one I bought, doesn't say HDR on the box but Funamation has a page that lists HDR and my TV and 4K player both show an HDR source.

I bought this version as I read it has HDR included...just arrived today so I can let you know if my TV switches to HDR mode as I waited for this so I didn't have to do a swap.

Hey, the manga was originally translated by marvel/epic in the US into multiple large issues. There were 38 in total. They were also colored. And while they are pretty well done, they’re not the version to read. But that might be what you’re seeing with “#33”.

You want to start with the dark horse collected black and white versions.

You can watch the movie at any time but it does give away a few ending points of the manga. But the manga goes way, way deeper into the story.

I’d personally watch the movie after the manga.
