Because Store means Win 10 exclusivity, which is only about a half of the current gaming market, therefore they've deliberately cut out half of the whole community out, and in AoE it's even worse, because this community is signified by old-school people with older computers, therefore the percentage of Win 10 is even lower.
Also claim on them reviving the franchise is not really right, if anyone is reviving it (and why even these remasters and AoEIV are being made) it's only and solely the community through its own efforts on which they try to build to grab the free money, especially in AoEII, which is making tens of millions of dollars for them on a 20 years old title, and that game is on Steam (and then Voobly). These exclusivity non-senses hurting the franchise and the community are then the thanks we receive for making them money.

Idk why they removed rankings if they were in beta, but was probably for a valid reason.
We know they can't do mod support yet, their hands are tied. So it's the rankings that everyone is wanting. And that chat bug was supposedly a bigger problem than AOE and if u look at other thread, it's seemingly fixed.
Idk, personally I'm an optimist, let's wait and see

Yamato gets slingers. You can view the tech trees on the official site if you do not have the game, here: https://www.ageofempires.com/tech-tree/yamato/.
Cavalry is the basic opening into bronze because they counter all tool units so the Greek naturally do that as well. If enemy goes camel, swordsmen or hoplites they switch to hoplites supported by priests if needed(not against swords). If the enemy goes archers they stick with the cavalry and support with stone throwers and/or towers if needed. It's a pretty simple gameplan and they do it pretty well. It's true that you don't want to stick around in bronze for too long if the enemy is massing composite bowmen but that's true for every civ. For iron transition they do get the heavy cavalry upgrade but they lack the last damage upgrade so usually at that point you want to switch to phalanx/siege straight away. They have the cheaper and faster centurions and there's almost nothing in the game that can stop that flood once it gets going.
You really don't want to rely on chariot archers without any bonuses to them unless you need the mobility. They are very expensive in relation to their combat effectiveness. The chariot is actually a good unit, better than the cavalry in cost-effectiveness but they need wheel and more stables to build from and are big and bulky to micro in combat. They are an unfortunate mix of detriments that compound on each other. Camels you get instantly and they build faster so that's more common opening in bronze for sumerian.
The carthaginian +50 all resources starting bonus makes them pretty unique in nomad. You get a super start compared to all the others. It also allows some nifty early game builds that other civs can not do because they can rush a fast storage pit without falling behind in villagers. But it doesn't stop them from playing just like all the others as well so I don't think that qualifies outside of nomad.
I would recomment playing the "Art of war" campaign in AOE2 DE which is the "learn to play tutorial" basically. It will teach you basic stuff. I also strongly recommend using the "Interactive Build order guide" mod (this one https://www.ageofempires.com/mods/details/2359). You can learn other build orders by watching TheViper's yt channel and Hera's 2k guide on yt. About hotkeys, I use "Tab" in place of "6" to group my town centers, and the "`" key (above the Tab) in place of "7" in case I need an extra button. For inactive villagers and military units I use the side mouse buttons (mouse4, mouse5) in place of the dot and the comma. With these hotkeys I find it much simpler to play online.
If you like, you can take a look at my YT channel too where I upload AOE1 and AOE2 videos daily, I also have some build orders and some useful videos aside from normal gameplays. Have fun!
you all just need to be connected to the same network, if you are using laptops must be within the same wireless router, if is desktop all of them connected to the same modem. You start as a host and even if you don't have access to the Internet, the people who is connected in the same network will show there, here you have a few articles: https://www.ageofempires.com/news/how-to-host-a-lan-game-in-aoe-ii-hd/ and https://www.wikihow.com/Play-a-LAN-Game-in-Age-of-Empires-2-HD
What antivirus software do you use? It's possibly it's blocking your ability to play the game. You can check out our support page for info on what to whitelist: https://www.ageofempires.com/support/aoe-de-support/
My God, you're right. I swore this game used 3D models. But apparently I was wrong. That's impressive! https://www.ageofempires.com/news/age-empires-definitive-edition-3d-2d-game/
Reddit is not the best place to contact about this. You bought a game and it is not working, you should contact the people that made the game you bought before going to Internet to help for something they would know significantly more about and would be at helping with.
You can find the official AoE:DE support page here: https://www.ageofempires.com/support/
Go through and read the full support page and see if there is anything there that will help you, if not, you can send error details to Microsoft to get support with it (details in the support page listed above!).
If you are still having issues with the game and would like you money back, you can refund Xbox games now. It is a relative recent thing (last year ish), so you may have trouble finding it. You may be able to refund it from your Xbox app, but if not I was reading you can go your https://account.microsoft.com/ then go to Payments & Billing -> Order History and refund your game from there. The requirements for refunding an Xbox game is that is much be within 14 days of purchase you cannot have played the game for more than 2 hours. If you still cannot find a way to refund it, contact Xbox/Microsoft Support to get it refunded.
After you preorder you can should be able to get it on xbox insider (app on the Windows store). No need to wait for the invitation email I think. You may have to sign up here still.
Unfortunately the original game is not available officially for a digital download. I would start by looking for the CDs on Amazon. About a year ago I was able to get the Collector's Edition with Aoe1 and Aoe2 on Amazon for about $20, but it looks like the version I purchased has on up in price significantly lol. This link is the purchase link given on aoe heaven, so it's probably the best place to start looking: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00001LDCD/ref=ase_heavengames/104-2430320-4216761?s=videogames&v=glance&n=468642&tagActionCode=heavengames
Thanks for the really informative reply. I'm glad you were able to solve your UI problems.
I'm not particularly looking for a keyboard lapboard like the Corsair lapdog, I just want a flat surface that I can put my keyboard and mouse on while on the couch. I've seen the Corsair K63 and it definitely is interesting. Unfortunately, it costs a lot too, and I don't want to spend $100 or more on a keyboard and mouse when i already have a really good mechanical keyboard and mouse.
I was planning on picking up something like this. It's 24", which is the largest I could find among all the lapdesks. What do you think?
