> I need more precision
Haha I can't imagine why but I'm all for supporting science.
Here is my ghetto solution brainstormed in 2 minutes:
If you plan on doing a lot of seed, it may be worth your time to make a seed separator. Otherwise, I find that a large shaker tray, and a good pair of Millipore filter forceps to be ideal for smaller quantities.
For the centrifuge tubes, I'm talking about this kind of thing (1.5ml). If you've bought seeds before, you probably already have some. Guess what, you can buy a big sack of them for cheap, because they're mass-produced as lab equipment. They come in lots of sizes and price points.
It depends on your goal with the pollen. If you are serious about long term proper storage of the pollen, then i recommend a screen sifter like this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R7XYYHT?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details), as moisture and vegetative matter can contaminate and ruin your pollen. I used tweezers to pluck the "ripe" balls that are cracked open or about to open, and then used a credit card to slide the balls over the screen. Lots of people post good guides on harvesting and storing pollen here.
If you arent serious about long term storage of the pollen and want to use/chuck right away, then yes picking the balls off and shaking in an envelope to gather the pollen will work. Just get a small brush and apply on desired buds around week 2-3 of bloom. Keep in mind that pollen that has been crudely harvested is highly volatile and must be used immediately or go through further refinement for proper storage to retain viability.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R7XYYHT?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details Ive had great success with this, and cheap.
This seemed to be the most recommended and I liked it: Trace Minerals Research Vegan... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QJ7Z1R0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I sprayed twice a day, about 4 sprays each time over a few weeks. I only sprayed the top main cola but the entire plant reversed, likely from the silver fallout.
I read a lot of folks complaining about colloidal not being powerful enough and failing. But mine was way too powerful I was expecting just one section of pollen but got the whole plant reversed
Going to want to dry that. Get as much plant material out as you can. Asian supermarket in your town? Look for a hot pot skimmer there. Maybe you can pick one up tomorrow.
I’ve seen cupcake papers with a slice in them used to put a “skirt” on the flower to catch what falls off.
I’ll take them (when dry before watering) and tip them over a smooth piece of tin foil. Tap intentionally in the clusters (chopstick or jeweler tweezers) and knock off anything that’s loose. I’ll pour that over a skimmer spoon on a smaller piece of smooth tin foil. Careful to quickly remove the plant matter. But then take more time to collect the pollen statically adhered to the first piece of foil. Lots of loose will collect there.
Remove all stems from harvested stuff already. Think “Plant matter is wet. Wet kills pollen” don’t store it when damp. Don’t scrape it from live damp pods. Don’t grind plant matter into the pollen.
Keep waiting. You can tap those remaining flowers every 2-3 days before you water again.
You can also turn off your inline fan and run your humidifier at max. for 20 minutes to get the nooks and crannies. Don't go much longer or you'll soak your lights. A UV-C light would also work.
If you get a scale like this one that will weigh mg amounts, you can forgo the stock solution and make the working solution directly to save $$$.
A: 127 mg silver nitrate in 125 ml distilled water; B: 470 mg sodium thiosulfate anhydrous (or 750 mg sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate) in 125 ml distilled water; Add A to B for 250 ml of 3 mM working solution. Start to spray plant 5 days before flip, then once every 5 days until you've applied 5 times in total.
I use a vacuum sealer (see link below), and throw in some uncooked rice in the bag (I put the rice on a cookie sheet at low heat for a couple of hours to dehydrate first). The rice acts as a desiccant, although the vacuum sealed bags don't allow much moisture. Then the bags go in a large freezer tupperware container, and put in my chest freezer for long term storage.
If you were to turn the plant on its side over a smooth piece of tin foil - and tap or shake the flowers so the pollen were to fall on the foil with whatever pods fall off too. And then collect that pollen from the foil into your vial with desiccant pearls. Straining carefully to remove all plant material like you said. Tweezers even if needed. Par baked flour to cut the pollen. Then into a thermos in the freezer.
Then you would be following a method that 100% has worked for me before.
I would not scrape open the pollen sacs that are still green to release the pollen in them to mix into the loose stuff.
If I were to dry the pollen sacs out - I would again remove as much plant material (stems / leaves) to help in the drying. And you will want a still box with extra space for air (not a ziplock).
I’ve considered quitting water when I’ve collected to see if the plant dries while it dies and is easier to collect. But man after a week or some of collecting pollen I’m always ready to trash the thing.
Get a bottle like this one to spray yourself down after hanging around the male. You don’t want to track the pollen back into your female tent accidentally. The black bottle mug he be good for STS as well if you label carefully.
Trick is to make sure they never dry out. Can be a challenge when plants get big. I use one of these. The nice part of breeding in solo cups is you can get a lot of different strains in a small tent.
Mark everything with waterproof cable labels.
Cover half of plant with these .6mil clear bags. Spray the rest heavily with water. Carefully unclip bag and reach pollen inside on a brush / qtip / tweezers holding sacs and dust the flowers. Close the bag. Spray around it again. Shake / agitate the branch and flowers inside the bag a little. Spray around the mouth. Wait for two hours (probably less but I’ve not found a firm answer).
Spray it all down again outside then inside the bag. Remove the bag. Soaking the air and the flowers you just dusted. Neutralize all pollen to keep it from getting to the other side of the plant.
Do the same thing the next night to the same flowers. Exactly the same. Spraying everything but the flowers to be pollinated. A continuous spray mister works well for this effort.
Do it again the following two days with the other side.
I’ve gone back a week later just to be sure before. But I think that’s been redundant.
I used this. But if I remember correctly when I looked into it anything 30+ ppm should work. https://www.amazon.com/Bio-Silver-Ultra-Colloidal-Silver-Spray/dp/B003LUUMFY/ref=sxts_rp_s_a_1_0?content-id=amzn1.sym.3c8dfbac-8741-40f7-ac26-702635b84b32%3Aamzn1.sym.3c8dfbac-8741-40f7-ac26-702635b84b32&crid=17KDXHUXPDRS7&cv_ct_cx=colloid...
Eh, technically the JADAM book is the first/best resource… but there are better resources for getting started, in my opinion.
Search Chris Trump on youtube…. I credit THIs thread for getting me started with recipes…. Any podcast featuring Clackamas Coot (he’s not a “knf guy”, but his knowledge applies)…. And once you have a decent enough understanding, any cannabis podcast on the subject of knf will make sense haha
Better question to ask why would they not? If you don't understand the principle behind what you are doing why breed? not trying to be a jerk just breeding is fundamentally about genetics. So if you do something ask if it is affecting the underlying code and then that is your answer. here is a book for 20 that will help a ton with the process https://www.amazon.com/Breed-Your-Own-Vegetable-Varieties/dp/1890132721/ref=sr_1_1?crid=22PTRPTLM8KGT&keywords=plant+breeding&qid=1642176464&s=books&sprefix=plant+breeding%2Cstripbooks%2C309&sr=1-1
Here you go fam. Also, you can make this with .99 silver wire and a few batteries which is safer if you fudged up making STS which is easier to mess up.
Thanks! I actually got this spray from
amazon: Tiresias Mist Feminized Seed Spray | 1 ounce Bottle for Growing All Female Pollen and Seeds – Safe, Non-Toxic Plant Flower Formula for Growers - Effective and Reliable Solution https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008OAI6OA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_YZGRN7SFVMSGWAJ2A3T2
I’ve read it’s pretty easy and cheaper to make your own but i wanted to try this out and it actually works really well! Reversed a small sour diesel auto and got 40 feminized seeds from it.
So far I’ve successfully reversed 3 plants from this spray. Spraying 2-3x a day for a week til the sacs appear
Or a UV-C light for 30 minutes is also a good way to get in to any nooks and crannies you may have missed. Added bonus is that it also nukes any critters that may be lurking.
Anhydrous version for $15
Pentahydrate version $32
Both roughly 1lb of material.
Buy some desiccant packets that change color - don’t bother with rice.
Cheap Strainer - if you want to save the trim bin Slow bake flour - put into mason with desiccant.
Buy some .5ml centrifuge containers
Search pollen box
Super flat super dry tin foil - shake plant - crease foil pour over strainer over collection plate / more foil
Remove as much plant material as possible at all steps. The more green the more moisture.
I'm happy with these. Some people say it can last several months if you keep it in the fridge. I think it would depend on the concentration though. A 3 mM solution will last longer than a 1 mM solution.
I'm a fan of taking off branches in batches and smacking them bitches over a screen. Just get a screen printing t shirt thingy majig off Amazon they are like $15 and work great for getting yourself clean pollen.

Premix! It’s a fad dietary supplement. Totally non-toxic. Sometimes I do a tongue spray (how you consume it) when spraying my plants and bored lol

I would at least use a 32 oz cup.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HBV4WO0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_i4wo5EOvp64X4
I used these and they grew pretty huge in my 2x2.
I drilled some holes and painted them black.
This time I bought some 1 gallon nursery pots and hoping for bigger results. I believe 1 gallon is 128oz.
There are some half gallon nursery pots on Amazon too.
I got some baking trays and used that as a drain catcher. I would vacuum the runoff.
But when I did flower in the 32oz cups, they began to fall over because of the weight, so I would recommend getting a scrog net.
Ordered from Amazon.com but it shipped to my house in Canuckistan very fast.
I applied it every few days once they started preflowering and the entire Milk and Qookies from Night Owl flipped. I know a few of you asked for an update if it worked, so here ya go dudes/dudettes!

You'll need at least a 30 PPM, I've used this brand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000AMUWME/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_mZN1FbE7DNEPW with success. Started 1 week before flower till 1 week after<<<>disclaimer I go 2 weeks after flower
Im currently in the test trails of a homemade cs but doesnt seem to be working so i wont reccomend diy YET. Ive only used this https://www.amazon.com/Trace-Minerals-Research-Bio-Active-Supplement/dp/B000AMUWME/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=trace+minerals+silver&qid=1595659765&sr=8-3 and it works everytime, keep spraying until you see sacks and youre done.
Id you see tons of sacks but they arent dropping pollen you have to pluck, dry then sift the pollen out before being able to use it.
