I have a friend who is both a self-proclaimed Marvel comics geek, and astoundingly ignorant of Marvel lore at the same time.
When the second Avengers movie came out, he said that he was really pumped about it, and knew "everything" about the Avengers, although he was curious about when Vision and the Scarlet Witch got together. I said it started in the Kree-Skrull war, and really picked up around issue #105.
"What's the Kree-Skrull war?" he asked. So much for being a Marvel geek.
So, for his 2015 birthday, I gave him the trade paperback of it.
He said last week that he's still planning on reading it "soon".
He was also wondering why the gang never gave him any other trade paperbacks. Well, when you finish the first one...
Little known fact, Wertham also wrote The World of Fanzines which he talks about Fanzine communities in Comics. I haven’t read it, but I heard he expresses regret in the more extreme sentiment of his views from when he wrote Seduction
Also despite the harm he caused to comics it should be noted that Wertham’s legacy is extremely complex and also involves positive and progressive impact on mental healthcare
We’re still getting moved in, but I got the display shelves up and thought I’d share. The books on display will occasionally be changed out with other keys or favorite covers.
The shelves are Marietorp from Ikea. $6 each and holds 4 books (unslabbed).
Wrap for the folding table can be found on Amazon HERE
I found some info. It’s a US issue from 2007, part of a set of a bunch of comic stamps. You can still get the set on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Comics-Heroes-Twenty-Collectible/dp/B00HTR9OQS
The silver hooks were too big and the frame sat away from the wall. These are the ones I use

X-Men: Children of the Atom Box set. Collects the first 18 years of X-Men, from issue 1 to 143, with some extras:
The post below outlines it, including a photo from a paper that is cited in other places. Basically it’s an exercise to limber up the binding of a new hardcover book. It helps prevent the binding from breaking and I do it with all of my hardcovers, regardless of size, the first 3 or so times I open them. Then again if I haven’t read the book in a long while, before reading again.
Both the putty and the sponges are used in comic cleaning. I personally use the sponge mostly to clean dirt/oil off poly erasers. The putty is more useful for actually fingerprints/oils off covers.
There are a bunch of factors that go into deciding the price, including quality of paper stock (high glossy vs. newspaper print), and number of actual pages.
If you're talking about this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/078512179X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BY.3xbGS8AASH it's also seven issues at $4 an issue, so $25 is actually slightly cheaper than buying it in single issue format. Plus Amazon almost always has trades marked 20-30% down so that helps a lot. It's the hardcovers that are almost always a rip off in my opinion.
Oh, and original cover price obviously. If all marvel single issues are $3.99 and DC are $2.99, that's going to make a difference.
I mean Amazon got 50 for about 18 bucks, I would say that's a pretty good price isn't it? https://www.amazon.com/BCW-Silver-Comic-Mylar-Bags/dp/B000JFKSOE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516285763&sr=8-1&keywords=Silver+Mylar+BCW
Yeah there are a lot of options on Amazon with varying price and quality. I just did some research and settled on this one since it was one of the cheaper 15 x 15 pressers. It's OK, but not great. It works but unless you are spending a lot of money on one, I feel they can all be hit or miss in the $100 - $200 range.
I am glad you like it. They said they made the character because Atlas comics revived Captain America, presumabley without their permission, so they made Fighting American in retaliation. This, of course, was in 1954. I bought this because I am Jack Kirby fan, as well.
Here is a link if you want to know more.
Thanks. These ones are off Amazon. Gibson Acrylic easel 4x5.5x4.5. easels
I've had my eyes on this. There's a UV protected version, I think you specify when you place your order. There's also a version that comes with a shelf stand, though, why they don't just combine the two into one, I don't know.
It's super sturdy, UV protected, has magnetic closures that allows for easy opening and placing another book in. I use it more as a stand up frame in a bookcase, but I'm sure it'll look nice on a wall as well
Thanks so much! I got the frames are from Amazon and they'll do the trick for now but I'm honestly going to buy new ones. Their "glass" pans on them isn't glass, its a plastic uv protective pan which is great but if you look close there are a bunch of little dings on the pan itself, As plastic dents. They come 2 in a box and I got 2 boxes of them and all 4 pans had marks and dings on them. Here's the link though! https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08G475DFX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_VSQPK1RRRJ03Y81KSCD9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Might I suggest to invest in these.
They look excellent on a wall.
My son is into GI joes and Transformers... same thing there too. Many of these toys are gone before they even hit the shelves as pre-orders. Then the only way to buy them is from speculators who ask 2-10x the MSRP. It's one thing to squeeze collectors... but my kids??? Look up "GI Joe Classified Series"...the MSRP on these is $20. Some go for as high as $100 on Amazon. Lady Jaye was only available pre-order and never on the shelf- you can still get her for $45. This toy is NEW and was never on any shelves I ever saw. Snake Eyes is even more.
Here you go guys! Thanks for the comments! I got them in a 3 pack at my local store for a lil bit cheaper then what you can get them for on Amazon!
Ultra Pro Comic Book Display Holder, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EK6OXFM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GTF8MDEN5E7EXKXV4VBR
I use these. I think it's just standard size. I have books from 1970's to 2020's and they all fit the same.
These guys. They're super sturdy. They definitely won't work as a case to protect/preserve your books but hanging on the wall it's definitely the easiest way to do it
You should be able to find proper lids for these, which will stack better and be more protective than just a layer of cardboard.
This should be what you’re looking for, though you might call BCW and see if they’ll sell to you direct for cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/Short-Comic-Box-Lids-SHORTLID/dp/B00TCLXIHA
Or you could track down the huckster that’s been selling you these boxes without lids and figure out where those went. :P
Great cover!
Reminds me of the cover he did for Overstreet Price Guide #14.
https://www.amazon.com/COMIC-PRICE-GUIDE-Official-Overstreet/dp/0517552965
I bought them on Amazon along with printable business cards... I slap the clear holders on all my boxes, and use hand-written cards while organizing. When things "solidify" I print out nice business cards for the boxes. This works really well... As the cards can easily move when I need to expand... I drop a box in the "middle" where I need to add issues, and it's pretty easy. Here are the holders:
Smead Self-Adhesive Poly Pockets, Business Card Size (4-1/16"W x 3"H), Clear, 100 per Box (68123) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007LTI8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_mPD5wb5TC93A5
I hadn't seen these before so I tried to do some research. I'm not 100% positive, but I think they're an older product from Diamond called Comic Defense Collector Shields. If that is what it is, they cost about $16 for 100 on Amazon.
On Amazon!
Was wanting to see if something simple would work so I could put up comics and easily change them out. Trying to get a little bookshop vibe going in my office. Looked at spinner racks, quite a bit out of budget but this fit the bill when I searched for “comic book rack”.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009YUXSOW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QZmPCb9WTDN1X

CGW display cases. Note- these do not keep out UV so if you get direct sunlight these will not protect your books from damage.
Two other collections worth checking out:
Fashion in Action
https://www.amazon.com/Fashion-Action-John-Snyder-III/dp/0993997031
Puma Blues
My only beef is the Puma Blues collection doesn't include the awesome covers.
Have you checked out the adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula drawn by Mike Mignola? Absolutely incredible.
Thanks!
I used these. They worked pretty well once figured out but are quite finicky to get to work at first. They’ll hang fine but it’s hard to get the comic to fit snug inside, so it took some work. Someone here that’s more experienced might have a better solution.
I'd reccomend the app "Key Collector". There's a paid version but the free version is very helpful. It lists key books by title or by character.
I love Slott's run. This and volume 2 are great.
I think seal boxes can prevent this like this https://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-19344304-Gasket-Aquarium-Latches/dp/B00KL7VPWO?ref_=ast_sto_dp but I don’t know if those are not the best to storage comics? For that reason exist the acid free cardboard boxes?
I use those plastic for vinyl records and after 5 years I don’t see any degradation on paper.
The seal is very hard on those, I doubt water can enter to the boxes, also to double protection I can warp the box with plastic.
Sorry, I was unclear I was referring to Mage Book Three: The Hero Denie Part One (Volume 5)
Here is the link from Amazon Japan, the only place other than Book Depository that I can get English books. They want 22,424 yen or roughly 200$.
Thanks for the information though. Might have to look into getting singles.
Stay safe and enjoy!
It's a good question. I did know there was a white barcode version but I see there is and it has different supplemental UPC numbers. Yellow has 20411 (because it's a first printing of issue 204) but white is 21411 (which would indicate it was the first printing of issue 214).
And I just paused to google the cover of Superman 214 and it has the same barcode number has the white version of 204.
Thing is, the only pictures I can find online of the white barcode 204 are not actual pictures of the comic.* Have you seen a real copy of 204 with the white box?
*such as this: https://smile.amazon.com/Superman-2nd-DC-comic-book/dp/B07662DSH7?sa-no-redirect=1
Thanks. I have two of them, one in each tower flanking the TV in my office. Here’s the link. They’re actually on sale now, $14 per strip. I used one strip per tower.
BCW also makes a plastic box that's a little more expensive but more rigid. https://www.amazon.com/Short-Comic-BIN-Plastic-Black/dp/B077PPFN35/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=3R73A9GSYTPQD&keywords=comic+book+storage&qid=1668647639&sprefix=comic+%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-4
BCW also makes a plastic storage box. I've been considering making the upgrade myself. https://www.amazon.com/Short-Comic-BIN-Plastic-Black/dp/B077PPFN35/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=3R73A9GSYTPQD&keywords=comic+book+storage&qid=1668647639&sprefix=comic+%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-4
Dark Horse had the license for Aliens, Predator (and Terminator) for years. There are tons of good comics and art from that era. The Walter Simonson adaptation of the first Alien movie is dope too and you can pick up the TPBcheap.
They are Ultra Pro Magnetic Comic Holders definitely would recommend them. Have UV protection and they are very easy to open and close to change what you have up.
Thank you for your reply!
Assuming I had LED lights inside, would covering my window with something like this work for years to come? (I only have one window in this room.)
Sorry. Don’t have time to pull links right now but there are some good online resources available from the National Archives and many other libraries and universities regarding newsprint archival methods for newsprint.
Low/no light, temperature, and humidity control are the most important for the material. Buffered boards and microchamber appear aid in reducing acid/off gassing as the paper naturally decays. Mylar provides a chemically stable overwrap for the other strange products and as an added benefit, is perfectly clear making handling the book for inspection and enjoyment a treat.
Here's my favorite of all the available options: Ultra Pro Case
Buy a small scale - LEM Products 435 Stainless Steel... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002L7YJN4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Or (and I am semi serious) weigh yourself on a scale with and without the package, when all is wrapped.
Last use Pirateship, they have pretty good prices and compare ups vs usps
They have paperback and hardcover omnibus versions that begin with All Star Comics 8 and go forward.
…adding on
Daredevil Visionaries vol 2 reprints issue 168 - 182. Those are the most iconic issues of Miller’s run. But if OP watched the ~~Netflix~~ Daredevil show then OP knows the story.
Hardcover only but the 2008 release isn't hard to find. Depends on your budget. The 2019 Black Label Deluxe Hardcover can be found a lot cheaper. In the UK on Amazon it's £11 atm. A quick google tells me it's going new for $11 on Amazon in the US: https://www.amazon.com/Batman-Killing-Joke-Alan-Moore/dp/1401294057/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=3CN43FOQ3CM9F&keywords=killing+joke&qid=1662478291&sprefix=killing+joke+%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-1
That is an OK way to store them. Eventually as your collection grows, this becomes a less efficient way to store them. At that point you probably want to shift to the special boxes for storing comics:
Thanks!
I bought one each from Amazon, Wal-Mart, and Target. Should be easy to find. They were cheaper years ago when I bought them.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYBQXRH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I haven't used them but someone recommended the Ultra Pro Magnetic comic holders Have UV protection in the plastic but not sure to what level. They are a little cheaper on ebay than amazon
Hey! I got the stands from Amazon but am very disappointed in them unfortunately. Very flimsy. They don't feel like they support the book at all. This is what I purchased.

It's this one, although they've issued newer editions.
Acid-free boards. Like these.
Oh! I recently went through the same thing. I realized over the pandemic that if something happened to me my collection would be left to three women (my wife and two daughters) who would have ZERO ideas about the significance of the books I've got ("why does he only have one Hulk and it's this random issue 181?").
So in addition to the outstanding recommendations to get your collection into CLZ, I took the extra step of getting some neon/florescent "dot" stickers that I placed on the top corner on the back of my keys. That way, if you're flipping through the books and pulling one out, if it has a sticker on the back it means you need to look up the book's significance.
The thinking is that if something happened to me and my family needed to sell my collection, they'd know the books that were important.
I was looking at this:
That is the one you are recommending?
Oh I didn't know they released multiple. The one I got was the comic version of Peter Porker. You can probably get one loose on Ebay as a lot of people bought him just to get the giant Venom build a figure part.
Here is a website that can help https://comicspriceguide.com/comic-book-grading Or if you want a book that will help a lot more than the site: The Overstreet Guide to Grading Comics Sixth Edition Softcover https://www.amazon.com/dp/1603602682/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DYG9ZATT1E0BFGYDQ711
Don't know about bulk. but there are these. Availability not guaranteed.
I am not sure but it looks like it is a journal.
Reminded me of this:
I was nervous too! I held onto it until I got to a convention. Ran about $80 taking it through CBCS Comics (it isn't CGS, but it's Beckett affiliated, and it was the group at the 'con).
Friends who have graded before basically told me to flat pack it between two stiff pieces of cardboard taped together tightly before putting it in it's own box, padding like crazy, hard outside box, and insurance.
But like I said, I was patient and went to a 'con. Now I just have to pray they pack it well for the return trip, but at least it's in a hard shell then.
Depending on how much you wanna invest (I hear they don't return the thing you send it in), there are hard shells on eBay and such. https://www.amazon.com/Coinz-Comics-Current-Magnetic-Protected/dp/B09FJB5GT3/ref=sr\_1\_6?crid=2MLHVEK1088FK&keywords=hard+shell+comic+protector&qid=1653339167&sprefix=hard+shell+comic+protector%2Caps%2C90&sr=8-6
What a find! I grabbed an early trade paperback collection on a whim and couldn't make heads or tails of it. It seemed to come out of nowhere (in the best way) and read like a bunch of friends transcribed their wild D&D campaign. So many odd juxtaposed influences. I could never find a second volume or any scrap of information about it.
Now my local public library has a collected hardcover edition. What a world.
That's your best option. I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/BCW-Supplies-Stor-Folio-Comic-Comics/dp/B002AT8QKU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=LUGH1BJ9HBUA&keywords=comic+stor-folio&qid=1652609867&sprefix=comic+stor%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-3 Sturdy and keeps them nice and flat. Just don't be that guywalking around with your books in a Samsonite luggage rolling suitcase 😆
I got them from Amazon, but you can also get them from a local hardware store. 1/8" is a little on the thick side, but I'd rather have the plates be extra rigid and not have to worry about warping.
That's the press, it's been fine. I feel you should get whatever one you can afford. I do like the swivel, makes it easy to lay everything in place. Whichever one you get, just make sure it has that, I can see the clam shell type putting a weird angle on the book and being harder to load.
If you want to check out some Allred stuff I highly recommend his Madman work. Madman Volume 1 collects his first two 3 issue limited series and its some of the finest indie comic work ever. I can also recommend Dead Air if you want something a little more obscure. Its Allred's first published work and is pretty hard to find these days.
These always seemed pretty solid.
You can pre-crease the bags using a bone folder: https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Crafting-Handmade-Burnishing-Bookbinding/dp/B07N4DNF8Y/. I don't bother to pre-crease the 2 mil bags - you can press the fold between thumb and forefinger along the top after you put the comic in and it should stay closed reasonably flat.
Maybe you could just get something like and stand it on top of the shelf
Leffis Comic Book Storage, Comic Book Box 15.5" X 7.5" X 11.3", Collapsible Comic Short Box with Lids Holds 150 Comics Heavy Duty Comic Book Bin Container https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0977ZM4L2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3DN76RVA80J9ATWPDHDW
Kinda spendy in paperback as it must be out of print, but you can get it for $10 on Comixology.
Probably was the hardcover. Softcover Retail is $29.95, $21.35 on Amazon
Thank you for the gold man. Last thing, whatever sleeve that is in right now make sure it’s archival silver age Mylar such as this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EDLVBSW/ and use acid free boards such as this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0831TPGRT/. These materials like many things in the pandemic are kind of high and/or scarce due to demand so shop around. That’s at minimum before you decide if and when to grade. I absolutely would if I’m you. That is a major grail in comic history. I would wear gloves if I’m touching it and get it CGC graded asap. Last I heard it was a 6 month - 1 year turn around. Buy a reprint of Brave & the Bold 28 for reading and keep that book enclosed at all times. Congrats and thanks again for the gold 💯
Here is the product link on Amazon with the instructions to put in book.

I haven't gotten around to hanging my books, but I've had my eyes on these. They have a version that can be hung. I just haven't been able to convince myself of the cost and I'm still not convinced about the long term effect of UV on my books even in a UV protected case.
I got these off of amazon. I’m sure there are plenty of other (possibly better) options, but these were cheap and quick
The cases are called. Ultra Pro Comic Display Holders. They have great protection from UV light so I have confidence hanging my comics. They have their own site too if you're interested. MK 55 is one of my favorites too. Can't go wrong with Platt!
Thanks, I will look into it. The reviews for my box were all great, but I if I found something hazardous I would go back to cardboard quickly.
