There you go.
(I don't know if the link works, cause i'm at work now, but i will try as soon as i get home)
Every play Star Wars Yoda Stories?
It's a top down rouge-like from 1997. I got it a Job Lot, which is a store that's like a Walmart ate a garage sale, for like 5 bucks when I was 10 or so. Growing up across the street from that place was actually kind of awesome.
You should visit your local games shop and check out Magic then. Bunch of sweaty dudes pwning each other for hours.
The original PC version is on abandonware now too.
It's kind of addicting, if you're that personality type. Designed to separate kids from their money through gambling, since "booster packs" (15 cards) have a random rare in them. Wizards had the system down decades ago.
Still, pretty fun.
But the boots are still blue, does this guy even penguin?
I feel like, if you're gonna make a cosplay, are you gonna make the starting character version of it or its most badass iteration?
> Lemmings is an old DOS puzzle game, developed by DMA Design Limited, designed by David Jones and published by Psygnosis in 1991. It's available for download.
Me too. Doom, heretic, and fight sim 3.0. I can't even play a game on controller if it's not inverted. https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Microsoft+Flight+Simulator+3.0&gid=1977
Actually, there are a lot of windows 3.11 games:
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-windows-3x.php?pag=624&l=Classic+Windows+3.1+games
yeah my bad wrong title, it's an NBA game from EA released in 1989 so i thought it was nba live. game is actually called Lakers vs. Celtics and the NBA Playoffs, you can download or play it in the browser in that link. can also play 2 players using 1 keyboard.
I presume this is the one you are referring to: <strong>https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Jeopardy%21&gid=381</strong>
I played this many, many times as a kid. In fact, I remember doing a 5th grade Jeopardy tournament playing this with my classmates in 1988, on the Apple II.
It should be as simple as grabbing the original game files, and installing DOSbox
sudo apt install dosbox # unzip the game files somewhere # run the game with dosbox... dosbox <path to>/oregon.exe
You'll notice that the picture is cut off, so you will need to edit the dosbox config:
nano ~/.dosbox/dosbox-0.74.conf
You will want to change the following:
windowresolution=480x272 output=overlay
And add SDL_VIDEO_CENTERED=1
before you run:
SDL_VIDEO_CENTERED=1 dosbox <path to>/oregon.exe
If you're running this command over SSH you will need to specify the display when running:
DISPLAY=:0 SDL_VIDEO_CENTERED=1 dosbox <path to>/oregon.exe
And now it should look good: https://i.imgur.com/Bfn7l6z.png
Are you looking for one in particular or just general suggestions? Wizard and the Princess is an example of interactive fiction with art. There's also a list at https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-list.php?tp=10&gen=adventure&subgen=249&subgentxt=interactive+fiction+with+graphics
So you’ll need two things - a DOS version of the game and DOSbox. DOSbox is an emulator you can run older windows games on, regardless of your operating system. There should be a few tutorials around to get your game up and running and takes about 10 minutes to do if you’re bad at computers like me. Good luck!
Ach bin ich Blöd. Ich hab nur gelesen "Dune und New World Zocken"
Naja, ich hab dann mal gegoogelt und jetzt weiß ich, was ich heute abend machen werde.
few links you might find it interesting below they are mostly old games but great games:

Roadwar 2000
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Roadwar+2000&gid=1259
Developed by SSI (Strategic Simulations Inc.) and released in 1987 for the PC. Behold the glory of graphics with an amazing 4 different colors. And absolutely no sound!!!! I was into strategy games back then.
Roadwar 2000 is like Mad Max - The Road Warrior set in the USA. It's basically an abstract strategy game with optional tactical vehicle combat. Tactical combat can take around 1 hour depending in how large the map is and how vehicles you / the enemy have. Quick combat is like less than 15 seconds, but the only way to imcrease the max # vehicles your gang can have is thru tactical combat. Max at the start is 6, but can be increased to 15; 1 for every tactical combat victory.
I actually had this one growing up. My dad just gave me all his old computer games he didn't want anymore.
Step 1 -
Magic (Download WindowsXP, VirtualBox, some archive tool, then put in some work)
Extra hints -
Step 2 -

My total time taken to do all this was probably 2 hrs(ish).
Is it a lot of steps? Yes. Am I failing miserably at SimGolf and loving every second of it? Also, yes.
I shown my nephew the squad of Italy I used to play with on DOS. He has 2 of those as purchased icons in FUT and told me I'm "lucky" I got to follow them when they were still active (but little did he know, I had no live broadcast back in the day).
In 1983 Columbia Data Products made one of my favorite CGA games as a kid in order to show off their IBM-PC clone - possibly the one you have. The game is a very good rip off of Space Invaders called Space Commanders. You can find download it from Abandonware sites.
Possibly one of the Ultima games? Ultima VII or VIII would have been around that time frame.
Ah... I remember driving this in Test Drive 3.
Hated the car so much... always get murdered by the police car.
Castle of the Winds. I remember playing this nonstop as a kid. Got the demo on a floppy disk (I know, right?) and could not stop loving this weird visual basic looking game. https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Castle+of+the+Winds&gid=1893

if you are not familiar with the filesystem of DOS and try out some stuff, should work at one point or another.
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-list.php?PA=91&tp=4&year=1992
227 listed under "abandoned" (and no dates available other than 1992, for the most part)
> Do you have a list of similar games to R-Type?
This is where I went to several years ago before my hard disks corrupted and lost all my files. I lost interest after those hardware failures.
There's also this one below, but I didn't go to it before:
> you had to scroll through the letters to select each letter (it started on A A A). [A small detail: if you pressed 'up' on an "A", it switched to "Z"]
It may very well originally be a console game ported to DOS, since it has AAA, which is a staple of 8-bit and 16-bit consoles ago, which only had a control pad with a (+) directional pad and A,B, or C buttons, no keyboard. And, the only one I remember was R-Type.
So far I only remember vertical shooters like Tyrian. You could probably remembering from emulators too, like back then were emulators for: Capcom/CPS-1 titles, Sega titles.
That's the only one I can think of right now.
Maybe it's among these titles? https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-list.php?tp=1&kword=402
If not you should probably try asking /r/tipofmyjoystick
Back then it played some great rpg's like Ultima series, bards tale, etc. Some graphic adventures like Sierra games (Kings quest). I got Test Drive as my first game ever which was probably one of the first computer racing games. Simulations like Gato. I still have all the old software with boxes.
Much of it is freeware now, and here's a link to Ultima
"Download Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar rpg for DOS (1985) - Abandonware DOS" https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Ultima+4%3A+Quest+of+the+Avatar&gid=1294

There were so many amazing DOS games in the mid 90's. No one ever seems to remember some of my favourites (i picked from a few different game genres).
Just in comparison. Here is a link to old PC game "Starflight" game map. Starflight has been mentioned by Todd and other Bethesda developers as one of their inspirations for Starfield.
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_files_giochi/starflight1-map.jpg
We will still need to see how BGS pulls off, to paraphrase Todd, "The biggest, most epic, sci-fi game ever". But I hoping, but not expecting, that Starfield will be a modern Starflight, with hundreds of star systems to visit and explore.
Hey it's been 4 years since you posted this but it's possible the game you're thinking of is Traffic Department 2192
> Fatal Labyrinth
It's just called Fatal Labyrinth
And it looks exactly the same.
But take a look at Abandonware DOS, they have a list with all top down games released for PC on the 90s
See if any of the screenshots match the game you remember.
I have absolutely no reference for it, but my orcs for D&D was painted green back in '89, because that was the accepted color of orcs. So it must have been around for longer.
Also, I just found a screenshot from Pool of Radiance (1988) showing a green orc. With a snout, as you mention.
Also lists like these might be a big help, unfortunately neither iPad or Dos games are up my alley, so I won't be to much more help.
Could it have been Hero Quest or Shadowlands?
This is from the video game, right? Is the book essentially a walkthrough?
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Sid+Meier%27s+SimGolf&gid=2317
Runs just fine. Only issue is the resolution can't be enhanced so things may look a little blocky on a large computer monitor. You get used to it however... not that big of a deal.
I'd say Alien Rampage because of the gore, but that's not in a city. Or maybe Abuse?
idk maybe one of these games?
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Sid+Meier%27s+SimGolf&gid=2317

Microsoft Flight Simulator 3.0 for DOS.
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_img_screens/microsoft-flight-simulator-3-2.jpg
That's very close to the original: https://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_img_screens/red-alert-4.jpg
(I see that in your map, the Soviets have done an "Aral" on the Black Sea.)
Lemmings for Windows 95. I remember keeping level codes on dot matrix printer paper next to the computer. It was a wonderful time to be alive.
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Lemmings+95&gid=2509
Was the game in question by any chance American Gladiators by Magicom?
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=American+Gladiators&gid=1196
You should be able to run it in compatibility mode, under XP. There is also a copy available on AbandonwareDos, as it is officially abandonware at this point.
Black thorne?? https://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_img_screens/blackthorne-4.jpg
Was it a 3d game like Doom or a 2d game, ? This game was all over all schools and computers in the 90s so it was probably this. (Side note this isnt the sub for things like your question lol)
Man if we’re thinking of the same game, me too. I jus have a few questions: 1. Does it start you off in a prison? 2. Does it have a lot of dialogue like in the old PC Indian Jones games that determine different outcomes? 3. Do you get called “cur” a lot by the guards? 4. Was the game on like 5 or 6 floppy (hard) discs for PC?
EDIT: I found the one I was thinking of and hopefully this is it: Dark Sun: Shattered Lands.
Apparently you can download a copy here - fun times - https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Wayne%27s+world&gid=1650
Clyde's Adventure? The guy is not in a suit, but it's reddish. Clean background: check. Bad graphics: check. I think there's also a space station-like level.
I noticed that Vette! is a driving game with a "Tour mode", maybe this?
AbandonwareDOS has serveral pages with screenshots of "Racing" games and even more pages of "Vehicle Simulation" games that might be worth looking through if you get the chance.
When it was a DOS game shared between kids on 5 1/4" floppies. It looked like this, iirc. You pressed ESC and a mock, Lotus 123 spreadsheet would pop up to hide what you were doing.
Download it from here: https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Tetris&gid=1076
Since DOS EF2000 from DID, so about 25 years?
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_img_screens/ef-2000-02.jpg
I still hear it's low dark bgm, dream the foggy and heavy european sky
It's been a long time, good to see you again Typhoon. When ED said something big is coming this year, it wasnt a joke. Great work guys!
It would be a really long writeup found a website which has some screenshots of the later version , see if you can understand how it compares with notepad.Norton editor
For example, he said how it was impossible to include a huge story in video games because data size, but thing is what was eventually pushing the hardware limit was music and graphics, not text/story. Super old dos games were pretty text heavy and full of stories if not as magnificent as later Ultima games. What Spoony said is factually incorrect.
Other noticeable stinkers are Headless rant in UUW2 review (that's basically a "it's a high level area from now on" road sign you can just avoid, imo it exposed how Spoony was so used to play linear console RPGs but not PC games especially dungeon crawlers),
his rant on U6 (GUI inventory system was actually somewhat revolutionary for it's time but Spoony just bitched about how clunky it was as if he didn't know other games back then did it worse, just look at how Wizardry inventory for example it's just a list!),
forced "What is a {that thing you shalt not mention}" meme (this trend where you can ask stupid question already started in U4 or 5 iirc, it's nothing special for U9, for example you can ask "what is a gargoyle?" in U7, the same gargoyle you literally fought a war against in the direct prequel, it's a common practice in so many games/movies/etc after all), and the list goes on (seriously, there are many others).
I used to take his reviews at face value too because I had never played FF8 or other games he reviewed, but Ultima review made me realize "probably he doesn't know what he is talking about." My suspicion turned into a firm belief when I saw him freaking out in Fallout2 stream, that kind of stuff simply can't happen if you are familiar with old school rpgs. To be fair Ultima review is still a good comedy show though, it's just you shouldn't expect LGR/GuruLarry/GVMERS/etc level of accuracy.
I dont play factorio that much anymore, but I have a better idea imo. What if there a UI feature that can highlight different aspects in the game. If you scroll a bit down you will see where the buildings are replaced with these "holes" and only the info you want to look at is available. This can help get rid of clutter on your screen when you are trying to find a specific problem.
Commander Keen? The boy had a pogo stick.
Math and Word Rescue had a boy and girl players.
maybe try https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-list.php?tp=1&kword=202
Yeah sounds like that one or the second game. Or even perhaps the original fable. Not and easy game to get screenshots from since you end up getting the Lionhead game instead.
You might be able to find it browsing abandonware sites. I have played few older bshooters but I don't recall the skulls. I check when I get my hands on my old game cds for this one.
http://www.completelyfreesoftware.com/gg24_w95.html
This is my guess:
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Caesar&gid=1395
A later version, Caesar III, is one of my favorite games.
Longshot, but... Circuit's Edge?
If I'm wrong, there can't be THAT many first-person adventure games for DOS.
And it's NOT a shooter?
Card Hunter
Shandalar (This is an old game, but a better single-player game based on a CCG has not been done since)
Guild of Dungeoneering
Hm. The only game I can think of that fits the graphics and was localized in German would be "The Gene Machine", especially with the kinda prerendered looking backgrounds - Here's a screenshot. I hardly remember any of the locations, so I have no idea if there is a scene as described or not.
Definitely Dune 2000. Real-time strategy for Windows that supports LAN play. I'm not sure about compatibility on modern systems, though.
Hey Teeklok, you can download Lucky Luke here. To play, you have to configure LUCKYW.EXE to run in compatibility mode in 256 colors.
Hmm can't really think of any game. Maybe try searching for a list of DOS games (assuming it was a dos game given it could've been 90's) like "Dos adventure games", "dos point and click games" etc. example list here https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-list.php?tp=7&gen=adventure
I downloaded the game 2 days ago. I got the game from https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Sid+Meier%27s+SimGolf&gid=2317 w/o a single problem. I use W10 also. The only thing I had to do was to put my 2nd screen ABOVE my 1st screen in the display configuration and voila, it runs flawless, no crash nothing. Also take not the you cant change the resolution ingame.
I was going to suggest Deus Ex, but you mentioned it was like perihelion, so probably not it.
Take a look through abandonwaredos.com (link here ) and see if anything stands out.
Let us know if you find it there.
Additionally you can download old software from abandonware sites and play aged but still great games.
Give it a try: https://www.abandonwaredos.com/
There are even text based browsers for DOS. Or you can just go crazy and make a webserver powered by msdos and gwbasic for scripting.
I never played the game, just to confirm you wouldn't expect to see the textbox in the screenshot you provided right?

I only ask because when I googled - the screenshot is identical in DOS...
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_img_screens/hugo3-03.jpg
E2B runs WordStar OK.
Download WordStar from https://www.abandonwaredos.com and unzip it to the E2B USB drive - e.g. \Ws4
Then boot to E2B - DOS Menu - FreeDOS (from a floppy image)
Then choose the fist option in the DOS config menu for NTFS.
Then type
cd \ws4
ws mynewfile

Solved! I did a little bit deeper digging on AbandonedDos and found it.
Looks like the Great Dane looking fellas were the Doogs. No way Google was helping around that.
aww, well I'm glad to have tried. Although, I suggest you try looking through this website and this other website to try to find it.

In another off-topic suggestion, perhaps it is Konung 1 or Konung 2? I know that in K1 you start off in a village, and in K2 you fight some snakes in the starting area.
In general: GOG (formerly Goold Old Games) have a large catalogue of old games at low prices & with frequent sales. Importantly, they also have no DRM.
Also, many old games that are no longer sold will be tagged as "Abandonware" & can be found on sites like My Abandonware or Abandonware DOS.
I have no idea who Zapffe and Ligotti are, but I play old DOS adventure games with DOSbox emulator, on my Windows or Linux system. Tons of games I've never played yet, and I love the animation and point-and-click game genre from the late 80s to the early 2000s. So much more diverse than monster and people running around and shooting each other up. These are real adventures and quests and puzzle solving and timed challenges....often mixed in with a wry sense of humor and references to other, earlier games and cult movies. Best place to get these great games for free is:

Here ya go: https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Dune+2000&gid=1896
I still play my original copy of it in Win95 mode, not from the CD but from like dozen of copies. Can't believe I've never had a CC on disk and that it still runs perfect. I have a lot of CDs from mid 90s on and of course windows 1.0.
ever played sid meier sim golf. I dont know if this link is ant good coz iv only just recently thought about this game again and now your post got me thinking about it. its been years since i played it so cant say if its aged well but i did enjoy my time with the game.
https://www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Sid+Meier%27s+SimGolf&gid=2317
That sounds like Bio Menace. Pretty sure I have it on either Steam or GOG as well.
There was a [decathalon game](https://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_img_splash/microsoft-decathlon-splash.jpg) for the PC.....and Bruce Jenner could not be defeated.
It's casting a wide net, but it might be worth checking on here to see if any screenshots trigger your imagination:

Yep. The selling point.
True immersion like we'd never seen before. NY city skyline in all it's glory:

No chance of that happening in Arena.

If you want to play some retro MtG why not Magic: The Gathering aka MtG: Shandalar aka MtG 1997 aka MtG Microprose? It's fun, it's abadonware, it's oldschool.
Bad art direction is bad art direction whether it's intentional or not. And no, the source material doesn't excuse that in the slightest. Take a look at other games that took classic 90s titles and modernised them, such as Bioshock or Elite Dangerous.
Bioshock kept the claustrophobic, dystopian futurescape of the original and the reworked the cyborgs aesthetics into splicers. It maintained the tone but updated to the point where it won awards for it's visuals.
Elite Dangerous took the basic geometric shapes that were the ships in the original game (which of course looked like that because of hardware limitations) and made them into intricately detailed starships. Turning basic polygonal shapes into, into awesome looking ships that were still recognisable to fans of the series.
And if YOU were familiar with the source material you'd know that Wasteland 1 was actually reasonably colourful. Wasteland 2 on the other hand just ineptly aped the style of the more popular Fallout games, for reasons which are entirely beyond me as Fallout 1 and 2 weren't praised for their visuals. Even back in the 90s they received criticism for bland, monotonous, technically unimpressive graphics.
> Game was developed in Unity, not some archaic engine as you implied.
When did I imply that? And why do you think it's even relevant? They are using an engine that can look good...but their game doesn't. Take a look at something like Guise of the Wolf...a hideous looking game. It runs on Unreal Engine. The engine used by the aforementioned Bioshock. Does that mean that Guise of the Wolf looks good in your opinion?
This freakin' Flintstones game. The controls were a little stiff and it's stupid easy to die. I'd never beaten it as a kid and I doubt I ever will.
That looks a lot like Star Control 2
