A 60 mile route through Fort Worth, start at Mellow Johnny's bike shop, go down to Benbrook and all the way up past 820 North. You can actually make it even more ridiculous if you look at a map of Trinity Trails, including going up to the stockyards and Lake Worth.
The entire route is either multi-use trail or protected bike lane. There's hardly any dealing with cars at all, except for a little bit through a park.
This is basically the route (I cut out a section for privacy).

It's an epic 120 mile tour of DFW that I'm planning as a goal for later this year. I've been all over the Fort Worth and Grapevine side of the loop and really familiar with those roads and trails, but this summer I'm going to start exploring the Dallas side and do this ride in the fall.
Found this route from FTW to Galveston on RWGPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35993135
Edit: also this one from Rockwall to Galveston but this one has a very “scenic route” feel to it with 200 miles more than the route above. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33969537
Not sure where you are located, but hills on Windhaven just past Austin Ranch in The Colony is a great place to train. Here is a good loop to check out the area.
I do Dallas to Tyler quite often - the route I use is here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5727377
This does involve riding on the shoulder of highway 80 for a hundred yards or so over the east fork of the trinity river just south of Lake Ray Hubbard, never had a problem with it.
Have also used this route, it is one of the Lonestar Randonneurs routes. The route shown is for both ways.

Not sure where you are located, but we ride this loop all the time (and others). While it is on roads, hwy 80 and the 30 frontage rd west of 820 is pretty clear of traffic and there are two lanes with a wide shoulder. Lots of cyclists ride out here.
30 frontage / Old weatherford loop.
If you don’t want to be on the busier road (Chapel Creek) you can always do an out and back.
I personally don’t like riding my bike on the trinity trails because of the width and all the pedestrians wearing ear buds in their own little world.
I picked up a pair of these gloves a couple years ago. They do a good job cycling and jogging. I also got a couple fleece ear covers that help keeping my ears from freezing.
Hey, that was me! Sorry I missed this. We have small stickers for Bike East Dallas that I'd be happy to share, but I got that larger one from these folks https://www.etsy.com/listing/56868020/custom-city-heart-bicycle-car-laptop
I have tried a few different ways, and I haven't found a great one. The below is probably the best one I found. It was okay. Only a few dicey parts. I would also only do it on Saturday / Sunday mornings when traffic is light. Eventually there will be Trail Extension connecting White Rock and the TLT, until then good luck...
Hey, I've attempted this connection from South to North campion once back in June and here is the route I took: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37001294?privacy_code=LCGE6ne6Nd3pn0Sf
I did this early on a Sunday morning so there was zero traffic and it was great. I probably wouldn't do this on a weekday because the tiny section on Carl road going under 183 would be hairy with lots of cars. Once you get past that, the section on Northgate from Carl until you turn on Rochelle is a fun little downhill on a really nice bike lane.
Your right. There are a couple of variations. this is probably the most common.

if you dont do the extra lap of the lake then you can extend the southern tip to hwy 20 for extra mileage.
Komoot link Take the trinity trail to S. Bellaire and pick up the trail again to pecan valley. Take that trail to Dutch branch park and then follow it around lake Benbrook. See you there.
