Gnomoria is one of my most enjoyed pre-release game purchases. The rate of patches, your communication with the community, and the general playability of the game even while adding/adjusting core features have all been really impressive.
I read the developer plan and it contains a lot of things that sound exciting, and a lot of things that will be nice to have. The (possibly triggerable) rare events is something I'll be looking forward to, and I would love to craft some limbs to rehabilitate some of my amputees :)
The only question I really have is if there are any plans to improve multi-core processor support? Longer games will bring my system to its knees, and any sort of trap that forces units to recalculate pathing causes a major stutter/lockup. Generally when reviewed in task manager, I'll have one core at 100% and the rest nearly idle.
I understand that it may be quite difficult to introduce that type of change to a codebase, so if it's not in the cards, that's cool. I just wanted to let you know it's really the only major issue I have with the game. Thanks!
Yes.
This challenge has come with perfect timing! Here is my entry: https://imgur.com/a/d7dsi#0
I started Gnomoria a few weeks ago, and have really gotten into the creation of my mountain fortress, Barradum. My trap does not outright kill all enemies, but it only lets goblin raiders through (for Goblin attacks) or only a few mants (for mant invasions). The remaining armored enemies get dropped into a dungeon that can be kept closed until they starve or are full of arrows. It can be set to 1) trap 99% of enemies in the dungeon, 2) act as a trickle feeder, 3) be completely open, or 4) be completely closed.
I have three levers:
1 - Controls if dungeon is open (trickle-feeder) or closed (trap)
2 - Controls if 1-way exit gate is activated (inactivated allows numerous creatures to enter all at once)
3 - Controls drawbridge (inactivated seals up the mountain fortress)
In addition to the lag, it also causes bugs in the enemy movements. I used a set of pitfall traps in front of my fortress, and found that enemies were able to fly out of the open hatches as the game lagged. Eventually, I had to resort to a simpler trap that did not lag and let enemies through.
There are many great trap ideas floating around that avoid the lag, so perhaps it would be best to redesign yours?
If you're interested in ideas, my original lag-causing trap can be seen here: https://imgur.com/a/assJh#0
And my new non-lag-causing trap can be found here: https://imgur.com/a/i3QFH#0
got it fixed. you got lucky.... there was a mant attack at the same time as that retarded army. i had the mants kill the goblins and then your guys killed off the mants. you have some fixing to do. they took down your doors. i had to remove all the goblin corpses/armor/wep because the amount of lag from those items was unplayable. thousands of items lying on top of each other and the game was trying to render each one.
it also appears you have a beetle problem. i recommend getting that under control. i was going to wipe them out but i wasn't sure where they were. you also might want to invest in some armor and mele weps.
Definitely.
The game isn't quite like Dungeon Keeper, but you do get to dig/mine and build walls and stairs and things. It's sort of a colony survival game. You have to set up food production, miners, metalsmiths, etc to build your tools.
The biggest problem with the game is the lack of a manual or tutorial. You might want to watch a few videos on YouTube or read a wiki.
You can even get it on sale right now on the Humble Store It's -50%/$3.99
It's on sale for the next little while on the Humble store (-50%) https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/gnomoria_storefront
It's definitely worth the full price. I've put over 200 hours into the game.
I've bought it in late September and I've been happily playing it since. 0.8.15 has fixed some performance issues concerning ramps.
I didn't have any lagging issues with more than 20 gnomes, although my settlements must not be particularly demanding regarding path finding. I never witnessed a crash (I always play on small worlds).
I think new monsters are coming in a few days. I say try it again.
Exactly! I originally had a trap that completely enclosed enemies (https://imgur.com/a/i3QFH#0), but now I have converted it into a "trickle-feeder" trap. All enemies now are fed to my soldiers one at a time, and my crossbowmen can fire safely some distance away.
And there is a point to using guns because they do more base damage than crossbows. I just know that I will train my crossbowmen a lot, which has gotten their damage up to blunderbuss level.
I think that was originally in the development road map for post release https://web.archive.org/web/20150213235640/http://gnomoria.com/developer-plan/
But the whole dev plan has been removed from the site so I have doubts if it will be implemented, tbh it he opens up the modding capabilities more it would be better as stuff like this could be added by the community plus loads more
I've honestly not started yet. I'm a C# developer by day, so I'm hoping that, as long as I can get to some code, it'll be easy enough to figure out what does what.
As for getting to code from executable/dll: http://www.telerik.com/products/decompiler.aspx
Edit: Woops, the product I linked isn't free anymore. This one is. Been a while since I needed to decompile.
