Depends on whether you want to stay in the park (you can) or in Flores, about an hour from the park, on Lago Peten Itza. There are a handful of hostels in Flores that are really nice. Any of them can arrange your trip to Tikal, including a sunrise tour if you'd like that (do it!). In any case, make sure you get to Tikal early...you'll need a few hours at least to see everything.
Here's the Wikitravel page for Flores, where there is a listing of places to stay: http://wikitravel.org/en/Flores_%28Guatemala%29
Here is the Wikitravel entry for Tikal, and you can see in the "Sleep" section that there are a few hotels in the park itself: http://wikitravel.org/en/Tikal
Hope that helps! Disfruta tu viaje!
My recommendation is to get yourself a copy of this book https://www.amazon.com/Amalias-Guatemalan-Kitchen-Gourmet-Cultural/dp/159298553X
It has recipes en English and ingredients that you can find in the USA. You can try to make some of the recipes together
Buy a relatively cheap phone like the one below. Then you can get a local SIM card for cheap once you land and just pop it in and your good to go. Pretty sure you can buy a claro one from the airport if your worried. Or it’s more expensive but you can order a sim online before you go too

See, that’s a common misconception. Almost all Guatemalans have African ancestors specifically from slavery - not from the Garifuna or those that came much later. We’re just not taught that in school. I learned it in a Central American history class in college in the US, and confirmed it with a 23andMe DNA test (I’m about 5% west African and I look white).
You can read Blacks and Blackness in Central America by Lowell Gudmundson for more info. He did a lot of great research about this.
A good site is also here.
My granddaughter is learning spanish and a book her class is reading is "Patricia goes to California", she is using the two versions, spanish and english.
"Patricia, a 15-year-old girl from Guatemala, goes to California as an exchange student. She lives with a caring American family but encounters prejudice at school, especially from a girl named Debbie. By chance Patricia finds Debbie in a dangerous situation. She acts quickly and decisively to rescue her. The two girls become fast friends, and eventually Debbie goes to Guatemala to visit Patricia and her family"
You can find an extract of the spanish version here: https://www.wssd.org/cms/lib/PA01001072/Centricity/Domain/775/Patricia-Va-a-California.pdf
For English version: https://www.amazon.com/Patricia-Goes-California-Blaine-Ray/dp/0929724658
I recommend purchasing this recipe book. You can try doing some simple recipes together and as she grows up, she can try more difficult ones https://amaliallc.com/product/amalias-guatemalan-kitchen-cookbook/
Maybe there is a Latino group or community related to Guatemala near where you live. Try joining their events and befriend some Guatemalan families.
This book is for girls, but maybe older than your kid. You can check it out, by a USA-Guatemalan author

I’ll keep thinking, feel free to DM me if you have more questions
go to the british embasy in guatemala facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ukinguatemala they mention a little on the subject, these is what says there British Embassy, Guatemala City Report from today's meeting in Antigua: Local authorities reported 3 recent incidents involving 6 foreigners in Antigua. They concluded that this was common crime, not a campaign against tourists. The police will now increase patrols in Antigua, including at night and the weekend.
Our travel advice remains to take care, even in areas that are perceived to be safer. If you hear of any further incident, please tell the PNC/ASISTUR. And if you're a Brit, please let us know too. Many thanks.
are these motorocycle ponchos available there? they are all over SE asia and quite handy..
Kinda late but anyway lol, there is this app called OKAN for learning Qanjobal and Kaqchikel from Spanish, English and Russian. I'm not sure if it's by default in Spanish but you can change the language in profile options.

I strongly suspect that FTZ have a place in siphoning off investment from one place to another, but that it only displaces investment.
That's only what I believe, less than a hypothesis, but even then it could be useful: Banerjee & Duflo (2011) make clear that poverty keeps people from creating connections that help others stay out of poverty; and that migration to the cities inside a country for economic reasons is usually not viable unless they already have the family/friend connections there. This further sinks people in poverty, like quicksand.
I don´t see how tax breaks are too different from subsidies: They might be better than subsidies, but ultimately they only create over-normal profits, much like industrial policy aims to do.
The difference of FTZ with an industrial policy might be that FTZ is meant to be location-based as opposed to industry-based. However this is an interesting thought: If FTZ are taken advantage of mostly by textile maquilas, isn´t it much like an industrial policy for the textile sector?
Make with that what you wish, I like the idea of industrial policy, but I doubt that the textile sector would be a good receptor.
Ultimately, the essay unknowingly makes the case against FTZ: The biggest obstacle for investment is corruption. I´d like to add education (or lack thereof) as well.
Hence, it looks like FTZ is much like marketing: It might help, but you need to get the right ingredients (education/human capital) and the right chef (uncorrupt leaders/institutions) first.
