You only need a new gas cylinder. You can get one for like 20-40 dollars. Just make sure the size is right and it can extend enough.
I would recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cylinder-Herman-Miller-Classic-Replacement/dp/B07QF8XDCQ?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace
Nice chair!
You can add two of these cushions to your Eames seat and backrest to complete the style:
I love those rollerblade casters. This model has worked well for me. And they cost far less than the translucent casters.
You can get this cylinder, it also comes with the removal tool.
Use a foot rest, had this issue bc I met the weight but the minimum height for the Aeron C and the foot rest made a big difference. Without the footrest, the lip of the seat causes a numbing pressure on my thighs.
I got this foot rest, but there are others available so see what works best for you.

Do you have another Aeron (or even other HM model) chair where you can try the casters? To my knowledge, virtually all office chairs (with the exception of those from Ikea) share caster stem dimensions and can use the same casters.
If you're looking for another reference brand of rollerblade casters at Amazon that work with Aerons, the ones from Opttico work. I've used them successfully on more than one chair.
Here is the link for the Aeron remastered:
They are currently out of stock on Amazon (sold/shipped by Amazon) but they definitely come up.
If it were me I’d check the link regularly to see when it pops up (they tend to be available in the am hours).
Alternatively, you can go to camelcamelcamel and set an alert so you can be notified when Amazon has it in stock.
If you don’t have time buy from Craigslist but 900 is too steep for a office chair without a warranty, imo. I’d try to negotiate down to 750 since the production date is 2019 as well. Good luck.

I was originally using a cheap like 10 dollar one from Amazon for about two years. It was awful, always falling apart/moving/etc, so I sprung for a more expensive one. Such a good decision.
If you look under the seat, there are two clips that hold the seat fabric down. I unclipped them and bought some neoprene foam on Amazon to put under the seat. It was delivered today and I sized and cut a piece to insert under the seat. I'm going to try it for a few days and see if it helps.
You can put whatever you want under the seat this way. Just be aware that if you add too much padding the back of the seat may not feel comfortable since the lumbar support may not align.
The outermost position locks on the right arm, but if you move it one click towards you, it fails to lock. I'm wondering if this is all I need?
Table: 80 x 30" UPLIFT desk w/ natural rubberwood. CPU holder on the right (partially obfuscated by the chair), shelf/drawer on left

I confused the "by" with "from" as it's sold and shipped from Amazon.
Called HM earlier, I'm sending this one back and she gave me a promo code for 15% off their website. Going to just order it right from them. So for a 5 week wait but hopefully this will be good this time around.
Yes, there was less pain with more foam but it compresses after time and u can always feel the seat layout after time.
I have bought this one:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00KDTVT7G/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
In 1 cm and 4 cm thickness and slided it under the seat just like you did but 4 cm thickness was way too much, because the clips under the seat had way too much tension for its own good.
The foam u have used seems to have better quality, but like i said, 4cm thickness is way too much, it will also raise my height too much, so the backrest wont fit for me anymore.
I think that im done with the embody, it just doesnt work for me.
I'm settled now for some time with the aeron remastered c with the headrest and it works way better for me.
You said that you "changed the foam, tried it without foam." Removing the foam would make any butt soreness worse. How did you change out the foam and what replacement foam did you try?
I have 4 Embody chairs, 2 for me and 2 for wife. On our 4 Embody chairs, which are all non-Logitech OG Embody chairs, I removed the scrim foam layer and added this 1.5-inch thick cooling gel-infused ventilated (has holes drilled through it) memory foam:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07995K6RB/
The prices of most sizes of this memory foam topper have increased substantially after their Black Friday pricing, but that Queen size $36 price is still an excellent value. Several years ago, I previously bought 6 boxes of the King size of this foam for various upholstery projects at $53 each, and its product quality is consistently good. Take an electric kitchen knife or turkey-carving knife and cut a 17-inch foam square (17"x17"), unclip the two clips on the front of the seat that clip to the seat fabric, detach the existing foam, carefully slide and center the 17"x17"x1.5" memory foam under the seat fabric, attach the two cable clips back onto the front edge of the seat fabric, and you now have a seat that still has the springy bounce, but is far more comfortable than any new OG or Logitech Embody, and there should be no more pressure points on your butt or legs. Memory foam is far more temperature-sensitive than most foams, so on a cold winter morning, your foam-enhanced Embody seat will initially feel thicker when you first sit down, but then after 15-20 minutes, the 1.5-inch foam compresses down to about 1/4" thickness and does not affect the backrest's ergonomics (i.e. you can keep your existing BackFit knob setting).
These are sold on Amazon - comes in a 2 pack. I did both of mine while I had the back of the chair off. May as well do both as its a ticking time bomb when the other would go.

If you ordered the OG (non-Logitech) Embody and intend to keep it, get this 1.5"-thick cooling gel-infused and ventilated (holes drilled through it) memory foam topper (EXCELLENT $47 sale price right now!):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07993F9S9/
Use an electric kitchen knife or turkey-carving knife to cut a pad that fits under the Embody's seat fabric. Unclip the two cables from the front edge of the seat fabric, carefully detach the scrim foam layer that is attached to the OG Embody's fabric using double-sided tape and save it away. The scrim foam that HM uses on the OG Embody is low-quality stuff anyway. Insert the 1.5"-thick memory foam under the seat fabric for an amazing seat that is both supportive and soft.
Outta here for real now :)
I never figured it out how to remove the metal plate. It's very frustrating they built it like this. I ended up fixing the armrests from swiveling with plastic bonder and it's worked well. I'm disappointed that's what I needed to do, but I really dislike the swivel.
I have the Logitech Embody and my GF has the Aeron B size. Armrest is better on the Aeron. I use a memory foam armrest cushion on my Embody: https://www.amazon.com/Aloudy-Ergonomic-Armrest-Forearms-Pressure/dp/B01M8F9IYC/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3TFV9GZFQ4LIE&keywords=armrest&qid=1669095533&sprefix=armrest%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-3&th=1 it really helped. As far as comfort, I like my chair better because the seat base is wider, the Aeron is comfortable as well but I just prefer the Embody. That goes for back support too. The spine hugging the Embody does is unparalleled.
I'm about 5'7" and when I raise my seat to make it comfortable to type my feat are off the ground. I ended up purchasing a footrest from Amazon which helped me out.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MS6XW8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
But when I got mine it was half the price!
Try this guy: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/233713044474726/ He gave me a good price.
I was going to order from him, but a local dealer gave me a faster ship time (10 day) so I went with them instead.
Late to the thread - how did this work out for you? Raise the chair much? the max height is too low for me at 30" desk height.
No I use something like this https://www.amazon.com.au/Mount-Adjustable-Ergonomic-Computer-Support/dp/B07RZX96QR
It wacks against the armr ests regardless of how low they are
Ended up taking the foam pads out of the baibu ones linked previously and swapped them into these aloudy arm rest covers that don’t cause the dots: Aloudy Ergonomic Memory Foam... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M8F9IYC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Hello, I actually have basically the same casters in the photo and have the same issue with them sinking into the carpet and getting stuck in place. Outside of getting a mat, is there a specific type of caster that I should look for that is good for carpets?
What about these?
I'd check if there are seat pan issues with the 2022 versions and then maybe its covered. If not a simple fix that might have less impact on warranty is getting some high density foam. I'd start by placing the foam on top of the seat first and seeing if that alleviates your pain, then if it works, place it between the seat fabric and seat pan. Obviously, you'll cut the foam to fill the middle of your "hammock"
Without knowing how much support you'd need... maybe something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Upholstery-Cushion-Density-Wheelchair-Replacement/dp/B074TTHFD8?th=1
For clarity, is this (not available) version the one you want?
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L2IJNMK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If so, yeah, the "Cushion" one is not the same shape. They still have images of the "butterfly" shaped one on their site, so maybe contact them directly to ask about it?
Could be bearings from the mechanism that holds the gas cylinder.
Exact thing happened to me this year (same chair, position, left arm too) and I managed to rig it back together using some Gorilla epoxy resin https://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Epoxy-Minute-ounce-Syringe/dp/B001Z3C3AG/ref=asc_df_B001Z3C3AG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=193152636937&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8032170226393474056&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvd...
You can buy the quiet roll casters that Herman miller offers on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Herman-Miller-U1BH0JP-Braking-Caster/dp/B06VT8YMS6
Safe for both hard floor and carpet use and comes with automatic internal brakes that engage when the chair isn’t occupied preventing it from drifting away.
Any fix will only buy you (a little) time.
I'm 6'4'' and installed these as soon as I got the Embody this past weekend. I can't say I noticed any height issues with the stock wheels though, so it might not matter much. Either way, they're much more silent and easy to glide than the HM wheels.
Thank you so much for the help. I hope I didn't confuse you. I am thankful for your help.
Would something like this product work for my Aeron, or should I return it to get something else?
I sat on plastic stools for many years, so having an Aeron is very overwhelming and I am trying to digest as much information as I can about it.
Thank you so much, I gave you my free award. Does that mean I need a special type of cylinder? I bought one of these cylinders and I'm unsure if it will fit? I haven't taken it out of the box because I'm scared it'l be useless.
Stay away from donut shaped cushion. It will make your hemmy worse. Get a coccyx cushion like this.
[Here's a reasonably priced alternative](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T3KCQ94/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

Feels good so far! We'll see how it does in a few days when I sit in it all day for work.
You could of also gotten the quiet roll casters which have automatic brakes that engage preventing the chair from rolling away when unoccupied (good for those on hard uneven floors): https://www.amazon.com/Herman-Miller-U1BH0JP-Braking-Caster/dp/B06VT8YMS6 Also do the casters perform well making micro adjustments (left right, vice versa, diagonal?). I’ve used rollerblade wheels in the past on hard floor and in my experience they didn’t perform well in that regard.
Hi, I was looking for a headrest for the Mirra v1, but couldn't find one. So I bought the Lorell headrest on Amazon and designed a 3D-printed adapter to be used with the Mirra 1: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P85C6OU/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am considering the ones on Amazon. About $20 shipped.

I don’t know how good it is to be honest.
The other one I found is buyfoam.com but they don’t have a great BBB rating.
Just came here to say, I used clamps and I got the job done with a screwdriver and some elbow grease https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DSY4QO/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I’ve had rollerblade wheels in the past and I don’t think they perform as well as a normal caster in my experience . They don’t swivel as smoothly going left to right (and vice versa), and if on a hard surface that’s slightly un-level, the chair will start to drift. I’d say you should get the quiet roll casters instead. It’s safe for both hard floor and carpet use (has a soft tread) and has automatic brakes that engage when the chair is unoccupied preventing it from rolling away.
The Herman Miller translucent casters are nice, but very expensive. I have them, but recommend the Lifelong Rollerblade casters if you don't want to spend that much:

It’s normal to have the slight metal clanking when rolling around. If the sound bothers you that much, then get the quiet roll casters. Another user had the same noise and he said the quiet roll casters solve the problem.

There should be a label on your chair like this. BB means carpet caster, c7 casters are for both hard floor and carpet. If you have the BB casters I say you should upgrade to the quiet roll casters. The stem is different so it reduces vibration/noise and has an automatic brake that engages when the chair is unoccupied, preventing it from drifting away.
You can buy the quiet roll casters: https://www.amazon.com/Herman-Miller-U1BH0JP-Braking-Caster/dp/B06VT8YMS6 has automatic internal brakes that engage when the chair is unoccupied preventing it from rolling away.
That is useful to know. I just replaced the gas shock for $25. Very difficult to get the old one out as it is a friction press-fit. Required a modern pipe wrench, a LOT of torque, and a hammer to pound out the bottom piece from the base.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097HJRVDG
if you're replacing your gas cylinder make sure to order the one with a removal tool. I tried many times with a pipe wrench and hammers but this tool was a life saver. It uses to rings. it's worth the extra $5 to get the tool. https://www.amazon.com/Office-Chair-Cylinder-Replacement-Instructions/dp/B01FGLVD6M/ref=sr\_1\_1\_sspa?crid=13J2AJ86JANRW&keywords=herman+miller+aeron+gas+cylinder+replacement&qid=1651507990&sprefix=herman+miller+aeron+gas+%2Caps%2C161...

You should of bought the c7 casters like u/theoriginals_wife said or you can buy the quiet roll casters instead: https://www.amazon.com/Herman-Miller-U1BH0JP-Braking-Caster/dp/B06VT8YMS6 same feature as the c7 with a soft tread that makes it safe for hard floor and carpet use, but comes with internal brakes that engage when the chair is unoccupied preventing any potential drifting (i.e chair slamming into desk). Is it this one?

Unless you want to buy a set, this was cheapest for single socket I found. Torx is useful but not found in cheap tool sets
I returned my Embody for an Aeron instead. But I did buy this to replace the original for the blue look. The original caster itself is safe enough, but not as soft as the rollerblade in my opinion though it’s debatable.
I’ve used rollerblade casters and in my experience they don’t adjust well going left to right and vice versa. It’s harder to do micro adjustments compare to a normal caster. If you’re on hard floor you should consider the Quiet Roll casters. It has a soft tread so it’s safe for hard floor use and also has internal brakes that engage when you get up from the chair preventing it from drifting away.

HJH 3-inch casters Twin Wheel 3-inch casters
Have both on my home and office Aerons and they work great. Much prefer these over rollerblade wheel casters.
I'm pretty sure that most of the rollerblade casters come out of the same 2-3 factories -- they all seem pretty much the same, with the exception of color and minor branding differences. I've bought these before with good results. I would get casters with a rivet style axle vs a bolt-and-nut style axle -- the rivet style would seem to hold up better IMO.
Hey thanks for responding man. What do you think of the the linked chair below. It has some scratches around the arm connection, and is not fully loaded, but I am able to get it for 500. It does have height and swivel arms which is good, I'm not sure how much use I would put in to depth adjustable arms fwiw.
Thanks!
Hey man, I have since found this one is not the fully loaded but according to seller has heights and swivel arms. Some scratches on the arms. What do you think if I can get it 500?
>they are both metal with a durable coating (anodized or powdercoated I forget) and will not wear down. I had chairs in the past with black bases that wore down and would show the silver metal through
That's incorrect. There's a GIANT Herman Miller graphite spray paint aftermarket. The graphite bases wears down to shiny metal in a few years. Examples of various Aeron graphite spray paints:

GoldTray TLMP Adjustable Height Keyboard Tray with Negative Tilt and Mouse Platform https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MGCGY8Z/ref=cx_skuctr_share?smid=A1114AZI8WF18J
I use one with my Logi Embody and it's fantastic to use with the arm rests. Embody over Aeron allllll day.
The articulated keyboard tray really helps with ergonomics, the negative tilt feature is something to play with when typing.
Are you on thick carpet? Herman Miller actually sells 3 inch casters for people on carpet but it’s quite pricey. Found an alternative on Amazon though: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071L93MWH/ref=emc_b_5_mob_t

Haha, thanks for the suggestion -- I will see if I can find any in my area !
I totally get that -- chairs are so highly personal. But, to be fair, this is the other chair I have been considering getting to have something decent, quick and cheap.. although I am sure the Herman Miller is much better quality wise.
You can find used seat pans on eBay for around $100. I got one off eBay for $80 pre-pandemic. You can also try OfferUp in your area. If you're near LA, try this ad. I see his posts from time to time. Good luck!
I've had this happen to me before actually. You can either replace the whole cylinder or buy these to replace the hardware actually inside the cylinder (this thing you're holding being the bearing that exploded). A more temporary solution but cheaper and easier, so up to you!
This is the one I used for my classic Aeron and it works wonderfully, very easy to install.
I actually ordered another beforehand without that collar system and tried using a pipe wrench to get the old one off and with all my might I couldn't get the damn thing off (even standing on the wrench didn't work!) so I definitely recommend one that comes with a removal tool like this
Get the Lifelong brand with 30,000 5-star reviews. They are worth the higher cost than the cheap ones. You can also get then in black now, instead of clear urethane.

Ideally get a HM cylinder -- best overall quality IMO.
Before I switched to using HM, I cycled through a number of vendors selling online until they hit a quality bad streak. (All of them eventually did.) Most recently I used this one.
This is the one I've found that is a direct replacement. The other cheaper ones will sit higher, etc. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QGCW421
You'll also want a small sledge and a 13-18mm socket depending on the year to beat that old cylinder out.
Follow up: I decided to try foam slip covers and I’m happy with it. They look kind of goofy but fit well and are comfortable.

Yes. Here's one in your area for $400 and another for $425. I wouldn't pay more than $350 (in Los Angeles) for a classic Aeron like this one. It is in good shape though.
You'll most likely have to replace the Pellicle which means the entire seat pan because HM won't sell just the Pellicle. If you're in Southern California, there are a couple of folks who sell just the Pellicle for about $75. Here's one on OfferUp. You can always trying using a bigger screw to see if it'll grab on to the plastic. Good luck!
No, but he's has posted consistently on OfferUp for over two years, maybe more, and his reviews are decent. There's also a guy selling chairs in Alhambra and he's also been posting consistently for a while. https://offerup.com/item/detail/848683840/ He used to go by the name Nam and he has a lot more in inventory if you're looking for quantity or selection.
There's a guy named Gary who repairs and sells used Aerons. He's based in Azusa. This is one of his ads: https://offerup.com/item/detail/841836397/ I think you can find reviews for him on Yelp also. A fair price would be $250-$300 for a fully-loaded classic Aeron but the resale prices have gone up quite a bit recently because of the increase in demand.
For an extra inch (not much I know) you might want to try some rollerblade wheels.
As someone with a history of back problems I have invested in an electric sit stand desk. I alternate sitting and standing depending on how I’m feeling. I’ve not been back to the physio since. Just make sure you have some soft shoes like sketchers perhaps married with an anti fatigue mat. It’s been a game changer for me working from home for nearly 2 years.
You can get the cyan color rollerblade caster from Amazon like I have from Amazon. It looks great together. You should check it out. All the casters are universal and can be replaced just by you tugging on the old ones and forcing the new ones in. This is another method of getting casters that roll well on all surfaces.
I didn’t know jack about HM before the Logitech Embody either so you’re not alone here.
I’m glad you’re super happy with your chair as I am. I’ve had mine for over 6 months now and I have nothing bad to say about it except for the creaking here and there.
