can someone run a internal band benchmark? e.g. the micro test on androbench. takes 5? minutes

edit: Thanks!
I was a bit worried since it's a budget phone, but am pleasantly surprised. It's near the top for sequential write. It's sequential read and random write are pretty darn good, only its random read is average.
i have replaced the screen on my idol 3 for ~50 or 60$ with something like this. i know that one is from amazon us but i didn't see one on amazon.ca. if your not comfortable replacing the screen yourself i would buy a new phone. also i recommend everyone use a tempered glass screen protector because it can save your screen from cracking.
I ordered the black case that's the same as the clear OP posted. I wanted to have something right away to put on it. I also ordered the Alcatel flip case and this case. The last case didn't have prime shipping when I bought, that's why I got the other cases.
To imitate the stock launcher's double-tap to sleep in Nova, you can install this app (or similar) and set Nova's double-tap gesture to open it.
If you use Google's Clock app you can pick the alarm tone using another file manager app, such as ES File Explorer. You'll have to turn off your alarms in the stock "Time" app, and re-set them in the new Clock app.
I did a bit of digging into the TP Log thing. From what I can tell, all it does is drop a timestamped log file in in sdcard0 > jrdlog > tplog that appears to contain registry values.
I ran a logcat while triggering the key combination, and it looks like this is the pertinent part:
[ 06-09 15:16:06.047 858: 1107 W/TPLogcat ] the tp error logcat keyevent have been triggered
[ 06-09 15:16:06.048 858: 1107 W/ContextImpl ] Calling a method in the system process without a qualified user: android.app.ContextImpl.sendBroadcast:1367 com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindowManager.interceptCatchTPErrorLog:7362 com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindowManager.interceptKeyBeforeQueueing:5419 com.android.server.wm.InputMonitor.interceptKeyBeforeQueueing:365 com.android.server.input.InputManagerService.interceptKeyBeforeQueueing:1476
[ 06-09 15:16:06.092 858: 882 I/ActivityManager ] Start proc com.tct.feedback for broadcast com.tct.feedback/.tplog.TPLogcatReceiver: pid=10116 uid=1000 gids={41000, 9997, 1028, 1015, 3002, 3003, 3001, 1023, 1007, 1021, 3004, 3005, 1000, 3009, 1010, 2001} abi=arm64-v8a
No, I have no idea what that means. Some Google searching (and poking around the phone) seems to indicate that "jrd" is a common prefix for system apps on Alcatel OneTouch (TCL) phones, so this doesn't immediately seem like a spyware / 3rd party privacy concern.
I also used the Network Connections app to see if the phone was opening any connections immediately after TP Log was run, and didn't see anything.
I suspect it's some kind of debug feature that was mistakenly left active. You can see lots of other debug stuff left accessible if you use Nova Launcher to create an Activities Shortcut (through the widget menu). Don't blame me if you break your shit messing around with any of that shit.
Speaking of the camera, can anybody tests if it's compatible with the new Camera 2API? This app will let you know if the idol 3 is compatible:

It takes a micro sim. If your sim card is a nano sim card you will need the adapter. Here is a site to see what size sim you have, link.
I just downloaded Nova Launcher, however, i'm having issues adding it to my VPN. When I get the Connection Request screen upon opening the app for the first time I am unable to select the OK button but the cancel button works fine. Do you know why this is? I have the same problem when I try and use TunnelBear too.
Screen replacement went well, you also need some double sided tape or something to hold the new screen in place, it will move out of the screen bezel and you can see light that escapes from the edge of the screen. I used some clear silicone to hold it in place and if I need to replace it again I'll still be able to remove it.
I also lost my volume rocker button when I replaced my screen, so be careful of that. The battery was really stuck down and I couldn't pull out the adhesive so with patience and prying I eventually got the battery out without damaging it.
The new screen is also polarized 90° rotated from the original screen. This only affects you if you use your phone while wearing polarized sunglasses. With the OEM screen it looked dark in landscape, but with the replacement screen it looks dark in portrait mode. This is a pain because general usage (phone calls, general screen navigation, etc) is usually in portrait mode.
Here is the screen I bought. $47 from Amazon, and free shipping.
How thin is that? I have this one and it's medium thick but I've dropped my phone several times without problems
From eBay I got this case and from Amazon this screen protector.
9/10 for case, perfect fit, slim, almost negligible amount of size added. 1 point off because it removes the clickyness of the volume/power button, but I guess that's the general con for any case.
7/10 for protector. Would've been 10/10 but they advertised as "oleophobic" which is false. It's basically impossible to remove finger/oil smears with your hands or even from your shirt. You'd need to use microfiber to clean it. With the naked screen, I can slip the phone into my pocket and when I take it out, it basically self-cleaned itself. Not the case with the protector, all oils will still be there. Other than that, it has a similar smoothness and slickness than the original screen itself, which is a big plus. Really feels like you don't have a screen protector on it.
When protector + case put together, the phone still looks absolutely gorgeous. The case adds a small raised lip around the screen, but the tempered glass makes it seem flush against it. I'll update with pics tomorrow.
bought this one as someone else posted http://www.amazon.com/LK-Protection-Shock-Absorption-Resistant-Protective/dp/B00WMO0HS2
and I'm also thinking of getting this one. http://www.amazon.com/IDOL-5-5-inch-Case-NageBee/dp/B00WL2LPB8/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2JWBJUIPNSXAJ
I intended to buy the idol 3, fully expecting the 4GB RAM version of the zenfone to be atleast $350+, but pulled the trigger on zenfone after the prices were announced. But keep in mind that the $199 version of the zenfone has lower specs (1.8Ghz vs 2.3Ghz CPU and Z3560 vs Z3580 chipset) so it may not necessarily have better processor performance than the idol 3. I would look at the idol 3 as the $250 middle ground between the $199 and $299 zenfone and buy accordingly.
Here is the official amazon link:

It's also being officially sold on newegg, B&H, and groupon.
I ordered Mr Shield's 3-pack of screen protectors on Amazon and they fit pretty well. I pre-ordered the official transparent shell but it doesn't come out until May 30th.
In the meantime, I had ordered this case, which happened to arrive the same day as the phone. It's kind of a pain to put on but once in place, it feels very sturdy but makes the phone quite bulky. I only plan on using it when I'm out hiking or doing activities in which I'm more likely to drop the phone.
As for arm bands, I had one for my old GS4 and it fit in there okay (stuck out of the top), but the velcro isn't sticking too much, so I just ordered another one for the GS5, figuring it should fit the Idol 3 too (might stick out a little as well but that doesn't bother me).
Have you tried Google Messenger? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging&hl=en
If that works, it's an app issue. If it has the same problem, it's more likely your provider. Can you try and post feedback here?
Hi, My power button stopped working about 3 months ago. I didnt drop it. I use this app and it has been working pretty well.

I love Gravity Screen. It spares me the need of using power button and is working great. Highly recommended everyone to try it out.
I've never had music stored on the internal storage - only the SD card. I had a 32 GB card before and just got the 128 GB. I've had it skip occasionally but now that I think about it it hasn't happened for a while - maybe since the last update, but I'm not sure. I don't use the built in music player (Mix, I think?). Used to use Google Play Music, so maybe that was the problem. Right now I use a combination of Shuttle+ for songs/albums and Clean Music Player for mixes or one-off podcasts since it supports playing from directories with .nomedia files and can remember playback positions. Neither one of those have stuttered recently.
I agree, and "hit or miss" might even be generous.
If you haven't already, give Gravity Screen a try. I've been using it for a couple of days and it seems to work pretty well. Basically wakes the phone up as soon as you take it out of your pocket. There's a lot of customizable functionality, so it will probably take a little while to get things working exactly how you want.
