There is a free app, Manual Camera Compatibility, that can test how much of the newer camera2 api is supported by your phone.
Droid Turbo rooted with Resurrection Remix = 0 support :(
First check if cam2api is enabled with app from play market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
If everything is green you can download camera app and install it (you need to allow installation from untrusted sources) https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
Else you have done something wrong and will need to enable cam2api first
Just used this app to see, and I'm afraid it isn't, none of the options are supported with the build I'm using (though it may be different with US builds, as I know there are some differences between the US and European builds).
If the OPX is having the latest Oxygen 2.1.1, then the raw/dng format is supported from third party camera apps capable of shooting raw. If you have a OPX with you, install this app to confirm.
Edit: Just saw an OPX review, and the oneplus camera app didn't have a manual mode as available on my OPT. Please run the test results from the above app to confirm. Do pass on the knowledge. :)
Download "manual camera" compatibility test from the play store and it will give you a check list if it fits the requirements
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Only devices that use the new camera2api will pass. Thank you so much in advance from all of us non-brazilian pure members.
I have no idea. But people here with the G4 can use this compatibility test app to check the extent to which it can support manual settings.
Edit: The app actually checks for api support. Your phone may have hardware support for manual settings and most flagships do provide with these settings on their default camera app.
However if your phone fails in this test, then you can't use any 3rd party apps that makes use of the api support.
That's been there since the 1st Kitkat Update. I meant full control in setting the ISO, Shutter Speed, Focus, and maybe FStop. If you're willing to try it out you can use this APP to test if the current build has the new Camera API.
Cheers for the info The screen shot has shutter time on the third slider (starting from the left). The sliders are (left to right): Focus, White balance, shutter time, ISO and Exposure Compensation.
Thanks for the copy of the camera info from that camera2 api probe. Ubfortunately, I'm not 100% sure either way from the results. It does say Support Level = Legacy which would indicate no to Camera 2 api.
If you are still willing, this app tests if the camera app I'd love to use would work.
My current thoughts are that Camera2 api support is device dependant, not camera dependant. And that the True Zoom is saving RAW files some other way to the camera2 api method.
My gf has a Mi5s and i installed gcam mod app with no problem.
He probably installs wrong versions.
Anyway he can check if camera2api is enabled by installing this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=el
Hmmm this is a little irritating. Can anyone with a Pixel 2 try out on of the Camera2 api apps that should allow RAW files to be taken?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
I've grown used to the flexibility of RAW and manual controls so though it's a shame not to have it in the stock app hopefully it's not locked down entirely.
That note about the visual core is also concerning, surely dedicated hardware will speed up Google's own algorithms. It's nice to know that it will be able to be accessed by third parties, I wonder if it will be able to process more than just images, Tensorflow support would be ideal.
It basically would provide other apps the API to manually control the camera, and also yield RAW images for post-processing. While the ZTE Camera app does have manual control over the hardware, it does not provide the system with the same functionality as you can test for yourself using this app.
I think it's only OP2, One Plus will have to develop drivers for OPO et OPX for us to have full API Camera2 compatibility.
Check for yourself with this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Shows as compatible with mine.
Ninja edit: Did you notice they have a compatibility test app?
Speaking of the camera, can anybody tests if it's compatible with the new Camera 2API? This app will let you know if the idol 3 is compatible:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=en
Oh, I forgot about one very important thing.
Is camera2 api enabled on your device? You can check if it is using this app
(Also, you probably need to have OpenGapps installed, or at least MicroG)
Yes, gcam is a must. You will notice a significantly better camera performance esp in night sight. Check with this if your phone supports it out of the box. If it doesn't then you have go through a workaround.

I don't think it's version specific problem and open camera will only work on its full potential if your device supports camera2api (you can check that by downloadin' this otherwise some of its features may not work.
Maybe I am rooted so my rom has camera 2api enabled. if camera2api is enabled on the s10 you can test with this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test then install from here https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/ obviously check xda for the s10 to see if gcam works. But you can always give it a go.
Did you enable Camera 2 Api to use the manual features of Open Camera.
Here is an app, you can test your device with to see what is supported.
There are apps on Android like OpenCamera or Manual Camera that can take lossless if your device supports it.
Here's a compability test app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
First check if cam2api is enabled. You can do it with this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Next try to clear cache and data if you had another working Gcam previously (afaik you should do this every time you change Gcam for another build).
Would you mind doing me a favor and checking compatibility with Manual Camera? It's a paid app, but there's a free compatibility check app.
I googled it, but only found people complaining that the stock camera app doesn't have true manual settings.
To check if camera2 api is enabled, download this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=it
As for the comparison, the Mi 5s is an whole other phone. afaik it costs more, has a better SoC, bigger display, bigger battery and came out some time ago.
As for Mi 5x vs Mi A1, they are the same phone, just one with android one, and the other with MIUI 9. Choose the one you prefer, the hardware is exactly the same (so much so that they have ported the Mi A1 ROM to the Mi 5x in a matter of hours).
I still think you might have to root the phone though, as i'm not sure neither of these phones comes with camera2 API enabled. Also know that Xiaomi phones aren't exactly known for the best photography in the world and that, while the Google Camera improves significantly the photo quality, is not a surefire. The port is also quite slow when doing HDR+, as the CPU is not on the same level as the 835, and some things don't work (reason why I use it as a second camera for rear shooting photos only). The videos, panorama and portrait don't work, and the front facing camera keeps switching from colored to almost greyscale.
In the end, as budget options these are really good all around packages, but still, you need to conscious of the fact that fiddling around will be required to get the most out of the them. If you enjoy it, then great. If you want an iPhone/Pixel experience where you click ok and boom, the phone is ready and great, then it's probably not for you.
> Camera2 probe
Strange, I'm also now on newest MIUI9 7.8.24 and seems that camera api 2 is not enabled on my phone (xiaomi redmi note 4 global edition (qualcom)) Probably just only selected phone :( I ran same app and it say to me by hardware level support is legacy. And another app which is common used to check is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test show all red. You got luck :)
Which apps do you mean actually? Some of them still uses legacy camera api if camera2 is not available. You can determine if camera2 api is available with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test just run it and see generated report
Hi there, thanks for your input :) I'd have a few questions if you allow :) especially regarding the camera. Does the stock-app has some sort of HDR mode, and RAW capabilities? If not, can other apps do it? an app like this can check it out, if you'd be kind enough to check: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=de Hows the display in terms of contrast? That's where Samsung really shines (pun intended), the AMOLED are simply great. Is LeEco too? I know the Le2 and LeMax2 will differ in some regards but surely might be similar in others :)
Regarding the headphone jack, I do understand the wish for better connections but at least I'd like to have the choice :( I didn't know about the adapter that surely helps, I'd still prefer a normal jack (also because I like angled jacks on the phone). I might get a Bluetooth adapter then eventually, that could work out! :)
I'd definately aim for the bigger versions which get more expensive, but 64GB is a must if no microSD fits. But the price is still fine and dual-SIM is pretty neat (I plan to cancel my contract and get two prepaid models, a cheap internet one and another for phone)
Thanks for the video, very thorough! And thanks for the camera samples. It does look like they might be interpolated to about 15mp, so potentially the images might look better if you pick 13mp in settings.
Could you run the Manual Camera Compatibility test on it and share the results, please?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=en
Also, does the matte back feel like it could get scratched easily?
Can you run the manual camera compatibility app to see if manual camera control is allowed? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
This is one of the reasons I would pick the LG G5 if it isn't.
> HTC one m7
Try this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
to see if the RAW capture capability is enabled on your phone. If it is, you can get a camera app that supports RAW and edit in another app (snapseed supports RAW) to get better quality images. I sometimes shoot RAW with my Nexus 6 and it gets good results. Nowhere near my $3k camera setup, but better than the stock app.
Are the camera API2 functions avaliable now for apps to take raw photos with full ISO and shutter speed control? This can tell you if they are. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Does it have manual camera controls? Could you run a manual camera tester and see for me if it support all the settings? Thanks.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=en
Please ask for full Camera2 API support when you submit feedback :)
While you're at it, would you mind running this app and posting the results?
How's the camera? It would be awesome if you could post some samples - from both the moto camera and Google camera app.
Are none of the camera 2 APIs implemented? Would love to see the output from this app too -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Could you please run this free app and check if raw stays red as before or is green now? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
On the Samsung dev site it sounds like 5.1 adds raw support. I'm just not sure if it's through the Google camera api 2 or their own camera sdk.
can you test the Camera2 API compatibility? I'd like to know how long of an exposure it can do. Try these apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.lite&hl=en
Can you see if Nokia has implemented camera2 api? You can use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Download that app if you want to check for yourself.
Lineageos 7.0 or higher?
Test if you have camera2api enabled by this app or the build.prop editor app.
It should be enabled. But if not, you don't need to do all this jazz cause lineage comes rooted so you can edit the necessary file on your phone, without PC. Download the build.prop editor app, and add the following line with it:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
You can now install the modded google camera .apk and it works.
You can simply Google your device or look for it in the XDA forums. Here's an app too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Great picture! Can you run this app and tell me what it says? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Phone batao,
Aur yeh app daalke check karo ek baar - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
On Oxygen OS it is all green, on LineageOS it is a totally different story :)
Camera Api 2 support? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test Please install the app a test, thanks.
Trie that https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=en to see if supports raw :)
not too shabby, can you test if camera2 api is supported?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Can you please post the output from the Camera Test
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Could you run this and post a screen shot? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test Thank you
Check with Manual Camera Compatibility checker. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to help. I've no idea how to check nor enable Camera2 API under LineageOS (nor anything else for that matter).
A quick search led to a Magisk module but I'm slightly wary of installing random stuff like that. The comments seem to suggest that a Google Camera application is also required. Should I go with the one in the Play Store? Checking it seems there isn't one from Google LLC which might suggest why there is the list of Google Camera HDR+ ports I'd found (although as noted they crash too).
EDIT : Found Manual Camera Compatability which reportedly checks for Camera2 API features...
> This app checks whether your device supports various manual camera settings (manual focus, WB, ISO, shutter speed & RAW support) introduced in Android Lollipop Camera2 API.

Which I think means that Camera2 API is enabled?
Use this app to check if Camera 2 API is enabled https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
I use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=en
and it says no to all
(I don't know if I really want to know this, but... Can you check its compatibility with the Camera2 api?)
>Please run this COMPATIBILITY TEST first, to see if your device supports manual camera settings: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Sorry for asking about the camera capabilities.
Can you please post the output of
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Please tell me they support full camera2 api's? Can you use Manual Camera Compatibility app to check please?
I don't know but you can check with free compability app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Odd. What are you results when you run this.
The, Xperia Z3+ and Z5 series should support it. You can check compatibility with this app.
if you're running CM12.1 ,can you please post a screenshot from this app ? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
And if it doesn't could you please run this free app for a check? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
Are you sure? Can you post the result of this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=it
This app test compatibility for the AOSP API so if it says no they are using other API no camera2
To be sure why not someone with the update test it with the compatibility test of Manual Camera?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
