Nice hack. IKEA wants to be sure there are no toddlers around to climb the drawers, however ;-)
Also, I just found out about these, which were a lifesaver when I got a new couch that fit snug against the wall.
I believe you can get spray paint that works on these bins.
Fusion comes in a shit ton of colors. Just make sure the can notes it specifically for Polypropylene.

These legs are from Amazon, I wasn't really feeling the chrome IKEA legs that people typically use on the Karlby desk and these black ones are a perfect height for me. Screwed them into the desktop for a clean look, never really understood why people would screw them into the Alex drawers so you could see the screws...
Edit: I forgot to add. Only drawback is these do not have much an antislip base to them. To fix this, I took a small piece of double sided tape to each leg and then cut out small 1" circles from some excess Easyliner Shelf Liner that I had laying around (the stuff you line drawers with that have squares cut out of it)

I have a Billy here and feel like it's a bit big to roll around. With the weight and size I'd personally be nervous about it falling over. Might be OK if you were just able to keep some of the case in the container box to not allow it to fall forward.
It could be fine though. A lot of people will build something similar for the gap beside their fridge like this roll-out pantry https://lifehacker.com/5992389/build-a-space-saving-roll-out-pantry-that-fits-between-the-fridge-and-the-wall

I built one of these a bit ago. I HIGHLY recommend you get fans. Without air circulation you will get mildew issues. This is what I used and it is working well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KDJQPNY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_5QDT6PRY04BHXAYR544X?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That's pretty much the same process that you go through to put a cat door in an interior hollow core door. If my sister (who once referred to a ladder as a "climby thing" just to give you an idea of her experience level) can master the skills to put one in her door than you should have no problems. She used a drill and a small hand saw to make the rectangular shape for her install.
In fact, a cat door might be the nicest way to finish the opening. Installation video
I just bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Orthopedic-Tailbone-Sciatica-Pressure-Washable/dp/B08B7ZHKLN/ref=sr_1_9?crid=5GB9MXM4JLGY&dchild=1&keywords=back+support+office+chair&qid=1623197666&sprefix=Bac%2Caps%2C197&sr=8-9
It’s designed for lumbar support. It’s cheaper, and isn’t permanent, so you can switch chairs. The link above isn’t the exact one I got, but I love mine. I can take it to the couch or the car if I’m having a tough time, and it’s outlasted 3 office chairs.
I found a few on Amazon. Not sure of your exact measurements but this is 350mm or 13.78in. It might work.

I used something like this on my screen door, and it was super easy to apply. Just measure it out and cut it to size. On top of that, it's non-adhesive so since I'm in a rental, i don't have to worry about damage or residue. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CA7IW9Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_8NTV4HRKXS86CRN3RG5Z

According to IKEA that is a laminated ash surface that is painted and finished with clear acrylic.
You have to remove those coatings if you want to keep some grain, panting over it would likely fill the grain.
Once the finish is gone you can paint or stain. You might try a "semi-opaque" stain which is sort of a stain/paint mix. You get color but the grain shows through.

I would try a product such as these small disk pads: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mintcraft-FE-50762B-Clear-Disk-Bumpers-0.-5-inch/40964986?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=723&adid=22222222228028830746&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=61664902209&wl4=pla-97826917209&wl5=9026797&a...

It doesn't come out, it pulls the board next to it closer, like a gear: Here's a replacement so you can see it
You can get bunky boards on Amazon. I considered buying one for my traditional mattress because my old platform couldn’t be moved to the bedroom in my new home (weird, narrow staircase to an upstairs loft). I ended up getting this kind of box spring that can be disassembled.
I like it. Bonus points if that socket has USB plug-ins.
You should run a small piece of cable raceway to hide the cord between the shelf and outlet.
I would be incline to just remove a notch of the baseboard or just a small section so that it ends shy of the new bookcase door. Its pretty easy with a oscillating tool like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Hammerhead-2-2-Amp-Oscillating-Multi-Tool-Semicircle/dp/B085WFDHHS?dchild=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=nerdmonsterne-20
Oh there! It's wallpaper I got on Amazon, (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078SN4MFT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that's not the back of the cabinet that's the wall itself. The unit I got had a gap there. The lights in the soffit are 3" can lights from Home Depot.
Ahhh no prob I was thinking of the cheap C clamps like this from any hardware store:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-3-in-Drop-Forged-C-Clamp-97891/303693388
Put a little cardboard, cork or rubber to protect either end so it doesn't bite into the wood. Or I found some that are for mounting electronics that have plastic to protect furniture:

I used 3 1/2" long M8 hanger bolts from amazon. Simply screw these in instead of the included lag screws with enough of the M8 bolt portion sticking out for the leg. Then screw the leg onto the hanger bolt. And that's it.
You could potentially use other legs too as long as they have a female threaded hole for an M8 screw.
Amazon! They're alright but feel a little hard when you've been sitting in them for a while. I just keep a throw pillow on them and sit on it to keep it comfy.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0844M4XX7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The pax units are built from laminated mdf and moisture is no good- the veneer will bubble where moisture sits.
With a table saw or track saw, you could easily create your own shelves out of plywood (if you plan on having this greenhouse for years, go with pressure treated but it is heavier.).
The shelves are held in place by shelf pins. Here are the actual pins: ikea shelf pins
You can absolutely drill vent holes. It is Mdf though, so you may want to “seal” the exposed areas of the holes with something that prevents moisture from getting into the mdf. In the past, I have used caulking to do this on plumbing holes in mdf, but those were completely hidden and I didn’t care about how it looked.
Best of luck.
Have you considered a bunkbed with a full mattress on the bottom and a twin on top? Amazon option.
Typing while riding is a cinch. But, it's difficult to use the mouse in a fine-tune sort of way like when I edit photos (small exact mouse movements). But, for using the keyboard or using the mouse in a non-exact way (like when I cull groups of photos or type emails), it's perfect. Also, I found that the position of the seat on the bike was too sport-forward (like a racing position), so, I changed out the bike seat for this one on amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017NEZ7BM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I tilted the seat upwards and now I don't feel like I'm going to topple into my monitors.
They are the Ikea Capita legs. They no longer sell them at Ikea but I found mine on Amazon but unfortunately people have increased price since no longer sold by ikea.
Set of 2 Ikea Capita Stainless Steel Legs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DGRYI48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_AqdGBbZ7XCP8J
Sure. We got it from Amazon. Here is the link to the same rug now. It is Prime eligible and looks like it is a few bucks cheaper now than it was when we bought it.
After impulse purchasing this Dual Monitor Stand on Amazon (I don’t like the look of monitor arms) I realized I could make this item far cheaper from some pieces at Ikea. Dual Monitor Stand
I used a set of Capita legs and a Bergshult shelf (47 1/4 x 11 3/4) It’s exactly the same length as my Linnmon Desktop and holds two 27 inch curved Sceptre monitors.
Ikea no longer sells KALLAX inserts in oak/maple/walnut (not sure which name they used when we purchased our shelf long time ago). There are plenty of threads about this in various forums, lots of people sad. It looks like you can maybe get them from Ikea JP or UK if you get them to ship to the US, but that seemed a bit overkill.
So I wrapped black ones in plastic foil. The product is listed on Amazon as d-c-fix self-adhesive film Maple Wood 26.5'' x 78.7"
https://www.amazon.com/d-c-fix-346-8219-Decorative-Self-Adhesive-Maple/dp/B005ELO650/
Tip: Watch out how the grain runs. The front of the closet/drawers runs horizontally. The back however runs vertically. My original plan for cutting the film didn't work because of grain direction, but turning it ninety degrees worked out almost as well, just a little bit more waste.
There are standing desk converter like these available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0784HWPN6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ESo9EbWFZHTNJ
You can also add a shelf on the wall right in front of it and place the monitor there
I used this bakers rack for my coffee station. Worked out great. Had both my regular Keurig and my Rivo on the cutting board area along with flavor syrups, these K-cup dispensers underneath, and 2 bins for extra storage on the bottom. The top part was wide enough to have 2 rows of coffee cups. Not ikea, but it worked wonderfully for me.
Some simple repainting, cheap LED lights and some clicks knobs for the oven. photos
Finally done. Thanks for all your help
Yep! It was really easy to line them up perfectly too. The line where the top and the sides join on the Kallax there's a little lip.. I just set the legs up flush to this line and drilled them in. 5 minutes max with a drill and screwdriver bit.
And here's the legs I used too: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098N57RDL?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1
Hmmm, good point! Ok, off to see if I can find weights, and continue mulling. Thanks!
(all this was inspired by this chair, not sold down here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K3GJNSM/?coliid=I33DJWLTEBTR8S&colid=3I830MM4FJTOM&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it )
I found these M4x35mm Binding Post, which I am guessing are not going to be strong enough to hold the bookcases together. I know these are made for scrapbooks; but I'm trying to avoid extra drilling and possibly ruining the finish of the Ikea pieces. The holes already in place for shelving pegs are 1/8" diameter which is roughly #8 imperial size screw which is approximately M4 metric screw.
I have one of these, and owned guinea pigs for 8 years. Ideally you should find something wider, especially for a rabbit. Guinea pigs would fine the width of this tight.
It's also quite dark inside with the mesh.
Have you come across these storage cubes yet? They're the go to for guinea pigs and rabbits https://www.amazon.co.uk/Langxun-Storage-Organizer-Products-Portable/dp/B078BC54SJ/
Welllllllll.... I'll link you, but I DON'T really recommend these lol:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08WWPVSN1
The ones I bought rotated a bit past 180 degrees when opening, meaning I couldn't get a flat surface without modification.
You can see the issue in the part 2 video I posted -- I ended up using a 3D printed part to fix the issue.
I also live in the US and wish they had the Ikea Hol here so I can get it for my rabbits as a litter box house. They are also free roam :) I found this side table dupe on Amazon and one of the reviewers combined two to make it look like the bigger sized ikea Hol. I may try this!

You might want to look into getting a small spray tent like this one if you do want to paint it. https://www.amazon.com/HomeRight-Shelter-C900051-Portable-Painting/dp/B01I1YI09O?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I have them both on these Kasa Wi-Fi smart switches to schedule then on and off each day.
Fecida grow lights found on Amazon.
Found them on Amazon, the plants seem to love them.
I bought them about 7 years ago from Amazon. For a bed. They're similar to the ones in the attached link. But there are some better looking ones on Amazon now for thin furniture legs I would use them if I were to buy now.
Hrm maybe ask in the DIY subreddit too? I agree that it sounds like your best bet is adhesive. My coffee table has a similar glass top except it came with these stainless steel nuts glued to it so I can screw the base on and it’s very stable. It was done by the manufacturer or I’d definitely tell you what the adhesive was. It looks like this one
https://www.amazon.ca/Warmcentre-Coffee-Modern-Assembly-Tempered/dp/B07YBTQ8YT
Your table looks great though. I could totally see it with some nice little modern black bar stools.
Amazon is still selling the same angular legs. The website says there are only 12 in stock. https://www.amazon.com/Ikea-Capita-Stainless-Steel-Legs/dp/B00DGRYI48.
When I did a Billy surround for my TV with the old Billy Wall Shelf, I drilled through unused shelf holes on each unit and joined them with these cabinet connectors.
It is indeed steel.
To cut into it, I'd suggest using a hand drill with a "Step bit" to make a hole of the size you need, then install a rubber grommet so that the wires won't shred themselves on the cut edge.
You may be able to borrow a drill from a neighbor, or find a tool hire store near you.
I went with these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083R1DSFQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details and they're great except for the plastic feet still breaking. Right now, I've drilled out a couple lengths of two by four, put the legs in the holes, then screwed in the casters.
It kind of works, but I foresee it failing soon. The closest fit I could find was 1.25" drill bit and there's still plenty of room, leaving enough gap for the feet to fail eventually.
The big box stores near me didn't have any pipe that fit the bill, so I'm thinking about either getting some pipe clamps or finding a used omar, sawing apart some of the pipe, and then bolting the casters to the smaller part. I would think that's the strongest option as it's designed to sit snugly and hold weight, I just need to figure out how to secure the bolt into the bottom of the pipe.
No, you could do it with a hack saw and a miter box for sure. Something like this would work.
But, even as a renter - an investment in a small circular saw is a great idea. They are so useful and run off a drill battery. My $0.02 😉
Literally just went looking for these myself. Amazon has them.
I don't remember if we are allowed to post links like that, but: https://www.amazon.com/Spare-Hardware-Parts-Frame-105307/dp/B07KRB2R26?th=1
Per bulb. I bought some from amazon and used them for about a year now and they've been perfect! The ones I bought are these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08D353T1W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It looks like this product- https://smile.amazon.com/SIGNFORD-Pattern-Removable-Wallpaper-Sticker/dp/B0824KH33H/ I've been eye'ing it for an accent wall in my apartment.
OP- How was the installation? Any major tips for installing?
If you wanted added stiffness to the top to help with potential sag, you could add these to the underside instead of the center leg. It’s what I ended up doing with my desk I built. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DOZDUEK/
Plexiglass cut at Lowes, but I recommend going for the 3 mil thickness as I had to break up little pieces of spare plexiglass for the hinges to grab onto. The hinges are made to take glass that is 3-5 mil thick and the glass i got was only 2 mil. Here are the hinges: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XYMGFNF?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
Gotcha.
What about kid locks? They make some basic strap kinds that are adhesive; one side sticks to the side of a cabinet (could be fitted into one of the adjacent cubes), the other side sticks to the door with a latch. I used to use these on an old freezer I had, whose door liked to open mysteriously.
Another option may be magnetic locks. I've not used these before, but it looks like there's a lock that is installed on the inside of the cabinet (cube), and you have to have a magnet to unlock the door.
Other than that, I can't think of other options that don't include physically moving your stuff to a different location, which defeats having a storage area dedicated to said stuff :)

I had a similar issue with the Markus arms, I found some velcro seat belt shoulder pads on amazon. They came 2 to a pack and offer a tiny bit more padding.
I did order some nicer legs for it and just got them installed today. They look way better. Found a generic sofa cover on Amazon that other people put on the EKTORP sofa with no issues and doesn’t have the skirt at all. Comes in a nice variety of colors too! Only $80 USD
If anyone finds this thread in the future looking for this exact thing here’s what I bought:

I'd get bolts and nuts and put a wide washer on the inside of the Alex units. They are kind of a pressed wood, so wood screws won't hold a lot of weight.

It's not the exact model, I actually got mine off Amazon... I do remember Ikea having the same ones at one point but at the time Amazon was faster for me.

My advice is to leave it. Put some under desk cable organizer below (hidden below the desk surface) to catch all excess cables and whatnot, keeping your desk incredibly clean and smooth.

Consider monitor arm as well to make a floating monitor. And monitor arm needs some clearance from the wall. You don’t want it to scrape the paint on the wall.
It looks like the brand I ordered is unavailable, but there are a lot of other knock-offs if you search for "Raskog Cart" on Amazon.
I have this one for my projector, and the three-level model from the same brand makes the perfect side table next to my recliner.
Hey! So I ended up just making a long L, for now.
-I bought 4 adils to support the corner and add to the wing. -Used two 8in mend plates. Spaces 1/3 from each wing edge. -A 4ft butcher block from Lowes/ local hardware store. Stained and sealed to get close to the Oak Karlby. -And got a table stiffiner from Amazon to support the length of the 98in. This one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DOZDUEK/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_T0Y6CG5R87EBRYAXK8HV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
My Alex drawers ended up being the end points of the L.
End product looks like this:. https://imgur.com/a/v0bZJ8F
This is how I have mine set up right now! My bedroom is tiny and oddly shaped. My boyfriend at the time helped me secure it to the wall with theseadjustable bed risers . My bed is close enough to the walls that it could be supported by these to the wall. It’s quite stable and moves barely too.
Yeah just saying, that’s not that budget. For example, on my desk, I used an 8 ft real wood butcher block slab from lowes for under $300.
These for the legs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZYDPCD3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4E11SPXHHNQ4TT40X6C0?psc=1
And an alex drawer in the center I got from the return section of ikea. All in under $400 for real wood, and I still don’t consider that budget.
Love it!
Can you incorporate something like this for the monitor?
The wooden box below holds the power and the machine?
Beautiful!
Something like this maybe? seems like it should help lift up the back and remove pressure all at the same time. I've never used one but the shape seems promising.
Personally I'd find some L shaped brackets to attach into your sideboard and then secure the beakers onto them. Maybe something like this:
Vogel's VLB 200 Universal speaker wall bracket, Swivels up to 90º (left/right), Tiltable up to 15º, Max. 44 lbs (20 kg), Black, 2 brackets
Or if possible, simple wall mount instead
Thank you! It took me about 2 hours to do the entire thing but I'm a little obsessive when it comes to centering / leveling on the wall. It's plaster wall also so I needed to use toggle bolts to support a lot of weight if needed. The Anker device is a 10 slot usb charging hub. I originally planned on routing all the wires behind the Skadis itself but they were barely too big to squeeze through and I wasn't going to force it. Routing the wires along the bottom and up seems to be a good compromise and if you use clips it's really not that messy looking. Links below are what I used.

I cut these to size for each side https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MPX3WHM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details which allowed me to face the LEDs inwards instead of at the wall. That's how you get that nice diffusion and relatively no dead zone in the center. It also allowed me to keep it all one piece. It's a 120 inch LIFX RGBIC strip + 40 inch extension which fit almost perfectly around the entire thing.
I see you said you have a wood floor.

They have but I wired just the white channel. Any led strip should work, they are all pretty similar. Just an example: https://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-16-4ft-Waterproof-Changing-Lights/dp/B076VG955L/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=3UJAMAVPNIDTG&keywords=rgb+led+strip&qid=1645128430&sprefix=rgb+led+%2Caps%2C193&sr=8-5
You’ll also need a power supply (most led strips work with either 12 or 24 volts dc) and a led controller. I used this controller: https://shelly.cloud/products/shelly-rgbw2-smart-home-automation-led-controller/
There are full kits on amazon but I don’t know much about them.
I used these, screwed them in to the corners where the kallaxen are 'wood', and they work very well (I use them on foam mats which aren't the best for wheels)
You can get a furniture doly they are around $25
Something like this
Milwaukee Hand Trucks 33815 Gleason Carpeted End Furniture Dolly, 800 Lb, L X 15 in W, Hardwood https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YHENVI/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_FT4AM5Q9J3AA941RXMCT
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07WZXRTGK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 Here you go. But there are tons of choices. I went for this one for teh color and the shape, but mostly for the height.
I ordered mounting brackets like this. Worked great! WEICHUAN Furniture Legs Mounting Hardware Sets - Include 5/16" -18 Coarse Attachment Plates, 5/16" -18 Coarse Hanger Bolts, Threaded Nuts, Screws Adapters 4 Sets, for Sofa Couch Chair Legs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DHMPQKT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_8Q93J2KZX6AP9PTW5S5C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Also, maybe I just need to say screw it (no pun intended) and go with hairpin legs that would attach to the solid sides of the Kallax unit?
I'm going to replace the entire circuit wit a Govee smart LED strip that's dimmable and works with a smart assistant. https://smile.amazon.com/Govee-Assistant-Changing-Control-Bedroom/dp/B0928SRWVZ/ref=sr_1_3 I considered using my WEMO plug and finding a potentiometer to dim the existing LED, but that may be an issue if the existing LED doesn't support dimming. At the $16 the Govee is cheaper than a WEMO plug if you don't have one already.
Nope, found them on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B073WCDMR7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 I ordered these, but actually received others 2x larger, but no big deal.
Ah no, I was looking for what you have for ventilation.
I went and bought Airplates (T3) to butcher an Alex pedistal with.

They are also going to be in the server cupboard, but I only have the intakes and looking for exhausts at the moment, hence the query.
if you have no fans expect some issues.
I went with these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09CPBWZ31 (from Amazon UK), but there are hundreds of similar ones.
(if those are what you meant by fans...)
Im not sure how the rest of the room looks but you could do 2 small hanging shelves with a fake hanging plant and small decorative books. On the other side maybe wall art or picture? And for the top of this box a decorate table piece like maybe something like this from Amazon.
Limited-time deal: Creative Co-op DF0842 White Stoneware Textured Black Polka Dots (Set of 3 Sizes) Vase https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NC7CNZL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_dl_Y1C9YQBGZZQAFW4Q0V9E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I bought a stainless steel wall mounted shelf that fit just on top. No photos of the result, however. Due to the bolts on the bottom of the shelf where the wall mounts go, I drilled holes in a 3/4" plywood as a sub-layer, and the shelf sits on the plywood on the top of the Kallax. It has a nice overhang, and the back lip stops shit from falling off.
Some as simple as this could look pretty good. It’s simple to do, but you’ll need to drill out the existing hole because it doesn’t go all the way through.
