Currently, we're busy working to polish the game and fix bugs for PC release. We cancelled the single-player component for launch due to the number of resources it took to develop. Single player campaigns are time-consuming and expensive. We're still a small independent developer, and the 6 million people who bought the original had only played the multiplayer component.
We have committed to provide lots of content post-launch, and may return to release a single-player element if time and resources allow. But right now we're heads down trying to launch the game.
Regarding setting, I'd invite you to read the original statement from Mikee about the subject:
> Though we initially wanted to portray particular contemporary real world conflicts, we actually found this approach restrictive of our design and, admittedly, sensitive. Instead, our conflict is fictionalized, but draws inspiration from various modern real world insurgencies. This is in regards to environment, gameplay, characters, vehicles, equipment, weapons, etc. It’s inspiration that is mostly aesthetic and not tied down by any one region. Having this approach allows us to focus our resources on creating a fun and atmospheric hardcore multiplayer experience. It also provides robust options for character customization, post-release level content, community modding, and other aspects.

Before, your player model would reflect what class you chose. So Specialists, Recon etc would have what the "no armour" player model had, while Riflemen and Support has what the "heavy armour" player model had.
Now, your player model reflects what you've equipped, regardless of what class you are. So your "no armour" player model is the same no matter what class you play across the faction.

Chill my guy, there are a lot of people that play only coop in both Sandstorm and Source. There's a lot more coop players than I think you realize.
And yes, Checkpoint is a coop only mode.
As for Ambush, they have confirmed that they will be adding it in the survey results blog post.
>the three most popularly requested official game modes include a tug-of-war style PvP mode based on Frontline from Day of Infamy (23.2%), a single life PvP VIP escort mode based on Ambush from Insurgency (22.7%), and a horde inspired mode with multiple defense points based on Outpost from Insurgency (17%).
>We can not say at this time which new mode will be next, but we can say that we are committed to these three game modes and will update you over time as they get closer to release.

AFAIK
Currently under the SOON^^TM release date
I wouldn't recommend youtube, lots of "tactical" dopes who are not good at the game but hype the playstyle of being slow, cautious and using suppressing fire which won't help you become good at the game and will only frustrate your teammates. They will drive you closer to a loss.
If you want to win, you need to know that the objective is 100x more important than your life and try to keep your average lifespan shorter than 40 seconds so you can get every respawn in the respawn wave.
My gameplay: https://catbox.moe/c/24dyid
The typical dope on youtube's gameplay: https://youtu.be/bXlYX6U-Pj0?t=9m42s
Take note of the clip and commentary at 9:42. He shoots at nothing, deafening and suppressing his teammates, while saying you should lie prone with a bipod instead of supporting the objective
I'd like to see this improved to be more accurate to reality, or at least to a less stupid degree, because I'm tired of pummeling a van and being unable to shoot someone because they're behind its steel-leather seating.
Totally worth it.
And regarding the 'a bit old' part, being this 'old' (about 2 years) and they continue to release free updates with more content, maps, models, bug fixes, new features, etc. Compare NWI to any other 'AAA big company with modern game' and prepare your wallet to drop at least twice the game price in 6 months and be left out of support next year.
Yeah, Insurgency is worth it. Specially if you're from the states (idk though) because there is way less people playing here (Argentina/South America) and it's still really enjoyable :)
UPDATE: Adding a link to the Insurgency Roadmap they now have online so you can see what's new, planned, in dev or requested: https://trello.com/b/Co46rhnQ/insurgency-roadmap
>Insurgency is slightly older
It's not really. The mod is, this game (Insurgency 2) isn't. It was only officially released in January of 2014, although there was an open beta prior to the release.
>Do the devs still support and update the game, minus bug fixes?
All the time, and 26 minutes ago, one even replied to you.
The last major update was on October 27, and at least two patches or minor updates have been released since. There are also some features of the game that are still not fully included or finished being tweaked. You can even look at the roadmap to see what is being worked on right now.
Welcome! As the community manager I do developer livestreams on Twitch featuring our community (mods, custom maps, etc) and the game's development. Feel free to stop by and ask any questions you have, they're hosted Saturdays at 3:00 pm EST: http://www.twitch.tv/insurgencygame
You can also see what's in store for the future here (I know you'll like competitive matchmaking): https://trello.com/b/Co46rhnQ/insurgency-roadmap
Good question! I'm glad you asked.
PUGs are a great way to play Insurgency with a great emphasis on teamwork and strategy with people of various skill levels.
PUGs are held and organised through a free application called TeamSpeak where players hang out, train and most importantly gather in a channel to play PUGs. They are usually organised daily during evenings. There are currently two main "hubs" for pugs, one in the EU and one in the US. I recommend you visit whichever one fits your timezone/time of play best. Players will often mix and match between both addresses anyway, so don't choose based on player preference ;)
So, just make sure you have a suitable microphone, open up TeamSpeak and add the following address' to your bookmarks (set in order of size):
DGL (US): ins-ts.thedgl.org
Bromance (EU): bromance.on.vg
Swedish Mayhem (Scandinavia): ts.swedishmayhem.eu:9988
If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to message me through Reddit or just add me on Steam (Username: Syn. Free_Mind). See you there!
there are 2 issues here.
Newer graphics cards and CPUs aren't optimized for older game engines. This should not give you as bad as a performance as you're getting (look how well Quake Live runs?) which leads me to two...
Development issues
If you decompile the maps you will see there is a vast disconnect from basic optimization skills/tools. Occluders, skip, and hint brushes are rarely used or can be used. The maps are designed so that there are HUGE open areas where the player must render all of the map and this causes a huge resource hog... actually it wouldn't except for one major issue - the particle system. I have removed the particle system on several maps and saw 2 to 3 times FPS increase. The particle system is vastly overused by NWI to make the game look pretty but functionality > looks every time. My 980GTX even gets shitty FPS sometimes on 1980x1080 or 720p, has nothing to do with your rig and everything to do with shitty development.
You want proof?
Have a look at these maps I did back in February 2014
I have changed the position of most, if not all player animations to align the head to more or less where your head is in first person. It will be in our next beta test (not sure when that will be yet) so be sure to join in on that and test it out for yourselves.
Some images have been posted on the Insurgency road map trello to give you an example https://trello.com/c/4ACfLhov/32-further-improvements-to-player-animations
Its a known issue and on discord they said they are actively working on it.https://newworldinteractive.com/insurgency-sandstorm-patch-4/
Similar to Insurgency, we plan to support Insurgency: Sandstorm with free content updates post-release. We will continually expand the game with new weapons, upgrades, maps, and other content. Modding support is something we are committed to providing. We want to work with our modding community to give them the tools they need to create exciting new content beyond what the official experience offers. This includes Steam Workshop integration, custom map tools, game rule adjustments (similar to Insurgency’s theater system), and things of that nature.
https://newworldinteractive.com/insurgency-sandstorm-community-update-release-date-announcement/
And they are also working on improving the spawn system for bots so that it's even better, instead of having fixed spawns that can be camped by us the players. Here's a bit more info: https://trello.com/c/utpImGe4
Which is funny, because this game started as an simulation of the Iraqi Insurgency.
I personally want more of it. This game is fun, and its ratmazes are an interesting challenge against vested teams, but I'm more interested in a game of Go than the checkers (and if you're lucky chess) that this game is becoming.
I'm looking forward to the expanded terrain and assets that games like the upcoming Squad are going to offer over what is quickly becoming CS-next.
I say that actively participating in a comp team.
Small static maps prioritize pre-determined routing. Communication, S.A. and teamwork become a secondary skillset to knowing where to be, where the enemy could be, and where he doesnt think you will be. Which is all it takes to be a good comp player in my opinion.
Sure comms matter. But even really attentive and capable team-players out there get raped because they are new enough to the environment that they don't know when someone could be to the left/to the right etc.
Given equivalent caution on both sides, tense and tactical firefights develop in a sort of innate form, rather than a Groundhog-Day-esqe forray into sticking nubs in the rear cause they're scared to move and you know it 1000 times over.
Random spawns, bigger maps with essentially larger matrixes of paths make probabilities much harder to forecast, and the resulting reliance on teamwork, comms and eyes everywhere is what I miss. Thats what I felt when I started playing this game. Now its just CS Source 10 years later.
Yup. It was on the Weekend Warriors Skirmish server this afternoon. I threw C4 onto Bravo and blew half their team up to win us the game.

Edit: All gone now, enjoy the game guys!
Yeah, this is definitely my kind of fps. The only fps game that I ever enjoyed as much was a relatively unheard of mod for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory which I used to play back around 2007. It was called True Combat Elite. It was pretty much a carbon copy of Insurgency with fewer weapon choices and poorer graphics.
Indeed he did! Thanks for linking to my comment :)
Anyone reading this: if you are looking to play 5v5 competitive, don't limit yourselves to the same 5 people by finding teammates through Reddit! PUGs are made to play with people of all skill levels in a teamwork heavy environment. You jump in, we link you up with 4 other 'random' people and you play with a similar randomly made team. And hey, if you end up liking some people nothing stops you from cooperating with them in starting a team :D

Search for "the gym" in this subreddit and you will find a post about a discord that is used for pick up games which is the only comp scene left right now. You may be able to find people to play pubs with there as well. Also I believe the clan called The Art of Warfare or TAW is recruiting but im not sure if thats for NA or EU or both.
The Art of Warfare (TAW) is looking for members for Insurgency. Currently we have 34 from both America and Europe and are looking to rebuild ourselves. We play twice a week together with a third optional event and own two NA and two EU servers, which are both public for anyone to play on. We also support 40 or so other games with over 2400 members in total. Go to taw.net to check it out :)
If you're on an AMD gpu like me, you can use the Gaming Evolved app. Iirc it also works on Nvidia cards. It's not as polished as Shadowplay, but you can easily capture highlights. There's also OBS, which works on both Nvidia and AMD cards.
Unless you can get your hands on the original, non-tessellated model to rescuplt in zbrush/mudbox, you'll have to paint those details in yourself onto a grayscale layer in photoshop. It takes a lot of practice to create believable creases and wrinkles, but it's worth the effort.
Use something like Crazy Bump to convert it into a normal.

With regards to the variety of classes its because of the game modes (in PVP) and the restriction on certain weapons, such as in push, defenders wont have classes that can have C4.
If you can wait a short while (not long at all going by previous games they support, but don't quote me), LinuxGSM is adding Sandstorm in the next release.
It's a lot easier to use LinuxGSM if you're not too experienced with setting up a server, and makes updates fairly easy too. Plus it's great to install additional game servers alongside if you want.
Last time i heard about it, they were saying that it'll come at a later date and they will focus on multiplayer first because Andrew Spearin the creative director left. I didn't read or hear they say that its cancelled since, so yeah it's still coming.
Here is the link if you want something to read.
They did fix one thing. The whole point of the update was to rush out a patch for cl_showtracerdistances, a game-breaking exploit, which is now no longer bothering us. But because I guess NWI doesn't use version control they were forced to leave in a lot of work-in-progress features and bugs. Another patch is coming very soon to undo the damage.
My thoughts...

Take a look at this: https://www.gametracker.com/search/insurgency2014/ It tells you the rank and location of the server. If you want to take the fast track, =.KoG.= servers are good, I do need to disclose that i am in that clan though ;)
We get a lot of teamwork in Sernix 1 and 2. It's all custom coop with medics, suicide bombers, and really tough bots. Not cooperating quickly gets you killed.
https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/216.131.79.171:27015/
You could always make a coop map instead. There's plenty of custom coop servers that would gladly pick up another map. Especially this server, https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/216.131.79.171:27015/
1) Get yourself an extra large mouse pad and set your sensitivity/DPI relatively low. 400 or 800 DPI on your mouse is common and set your in-game sensitivity relative to that. Sweeping your arm should result in a 180 degree turn; you can get used to this distance to be able to react quickly. Amazon has a decently priced mouse pad here
2) Use your whole arm to make most adjustments with your aim, particularly large motions. Your wrist should only be used for fine-tuning the last bit of a shot. Keep your hand well over the edge of your desk so as not to limit your range of motion.
3) Trust your shot, even when you feel you shouldn't. I shoot my best when I leave my conscious brain out of it. Initially this will seem counter-intuitive, but as you build the muscle memory you will be able to react with accuracy and you will build real trust in your ability to hit the shot. When it comes to aiming, I only engage my conscious brain in a big-picture sense. Am I flicking past a target? Am I stopping too short? Focus on the big picture stuff and adjust accordingly, but when the enemy is in front of you and you need to make a quick shot, tune out and let your subconscious brain do the work.

YMMV but have you tried an equalizer? Hardware equalizers cost money, but there's a software equalizer called Equalizer APO that I use with Peace GUI.
A high-pass filter at 200 hz can get rid of most of the low end bassy static from shitty microphones.
It's not some "generic landscape", this asset pack costs the mod creator more than 5x the price of the game itself! It's currently for sale at £137.76 on the Unreal Marketplace
you would need to download unreal engine 4 and utilize the included program that can extract the pak files which contain all the sounds. they should be located in the sandstorm installation directory: \insurgency sandstorm\steamapps\common\sandstorm\insurgency\content\paks\
I think Lua support was planned for this sort of things, but I haven't read anything about it in the last updates, the trello roadmap shows it as "Being Developed".
Honestly sounds like the devs will get Insurgency to a 'good enough' point and then move all their efforts to Sandstorm. If Sandstorm is as good as we all hope, then the population in Source will tank. I'd speculate the anti-cheat they're building right now is a test for its effectiveness in Source before deploying it into Sandstorm; why else would they put a new anti-cheat into the game when its days may be numbered? https://trello.com/b/Co46rhnQ/insurgency-roadmap
I don't know how much this link will help: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Insurgency:_Sandstorm

Intel Core i5-2500K @ 3.3GHz, 8 GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM and a mechanical HDD at 7200RPM.
I record all videos in OBS @ 1280 x 720, 60FPS with a Max bitrate of 3250kb/s and most of the time get solid framerates!
I know what I wrote above probably is not that much help, but to help you dial in some settings for yourself try checking out - https://obsproject.com/estimator - It's geared towards streaming, but since you can just ignore the upload speed- the settings should be around the same because of your rig, it's the best one to check out!
I just got the game, but it keeps crashing whenever I join a map. Same thing goes for single player and co-op.
I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with the vivid stack (3.19 kernel and xorg) with an Nvidia GTX 970 running the 355 driver via https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
Is there a way I can view error logs to find out these specific game crashes or a command I can add to save the output/errors to a file so I can look over?
I assume you want a USB headset because you need the mic since your Macbook doesn't have a mic port.
I never used any USB headsets before, closest I have is a USB adaptor I bought for $2 off a China website. Works for me when I need to use the office PC which only allow us to slot in USB. However I am not sure if it works on a Mac.
http://www.dx.com/p/5-1-channel-usb-sound-card-adapter-black-59039#.Vsd0s_mF671
If it does, then just get this cheap adaptor and buy yourself a proper budget headphone. I think this is better than a cheap USB headset.
I am currently using this cheap mic with my Audio Technicas, works incredibly well for something cheaply made.
http://www.dx.com/p/xty-operator-style-earbud-microphone-set-2631#.Vsd1o_mF670
The USB adaptor and mic will set you back 5 bucks and maybe a 3 week wait for it to arrive. You have $40 to spend on a budget headphone like Superlux or some other brands you can find in head-fi forums. They do have a under $50 list.
Short answer, not really. Great budget level build choice, especially if you're not adverse to a bit of overclocking.^1
AMD's current offerings generally do fine considering what you pay for them (just do your homework first). The FX-6300 you picked up is probably about the best performance/$ option on the market right now.
With heavily threaded software (benchmarks, encoding, a fairly shortlist of games) and multitasking it can get pretty close to a significantly more expensive Intel chips. AMD does this very well. Your ~$100USD FX-6300 gets about 80% of the all out multithreaded performance of a $230 i5-3570k (going by the Passmark benchmark). Pretty damn good.
Unfortunately, they do single core performance very badly, which is what most games still rely on. Fortunately, they're generally priced accordingly. That same i5-3570k gets about 170% of the FX-6300s single core performance, at better than half the price. Not quite as sexy of a statistic but about what you'd expect for the price gap. You get what you pay for.
^1 Obligatory do your bloody homework before overclocking PSA.
My guess would be due to the integrated graphics, they're really not great for much in terms of gaming.
Check out this page and run the little applet, it'll tell you exactly what about your setup is limiting you.
This is only about one battle, it’s really easy to read https://www.amazon.com/Siege-Kobani-Brief-Open-Source-Account/dp/1687239967/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=17ZKOQBFYXCYQ&keywords=siege+of+kobani&qid=1638191831&sprefix=siege+of+kobani%2Caps%2C164&sr=8-2
I just got done reading this book about mercenaries in the Congo. They had leftover uniforms, FALs provided by the Belgians (but paid for by the US), and that was about it. All their other logistics dissappeared because the mercenary officers were siphoning all their funding into Swiss Bank accounts.
If anybody is still reading this post in search results or whatever, you should seriously consider switching to a headless linux server to host your games. Ubuntu 18.04 Server + Linux GSM. I recently tried it and I will never go back to windows hosting methods for anything.
I found this article about a similar issue regard Unreal Engine 3, could be related
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2455
Another possibility is that your CPU is already running at maximum performance, and the additional stress that a 1000Hz polling rate adds to the CPU, could be causing it to stutter.
I would recommend setting the polling rate down to 500Hz, the difference is a 1ms increase in responses time, but that difference is insignificant. I've played with both 500Hz and 1000Hz and I haven't found an issue with playing at 500Hz, only gains from less stuttering and less CPU allocation required to keep track of mouse inputs.
Well here's the thing, you described it backwards, its supposed to be a realistic mode. Most people that have played realistic shooters expect it to be a realistic mode. Increased realism is supposed to be the main purpose, being harder is a side effect. A pistols-only mode would only fit in an Arcade mode. Things can change dude, remember when they were supppsed to launch in September but delayed it to December instead?, "Today we are announcing the delay of Insurgency: Sandstorm from its originally planned release date on September 18th 2018 for Windows PC. The game will now be releasing for Windows PC on December 12th 2018, and the Pre-order Beta will continue until the release of the game."
https://newworldinteractive.com/insurgency-sandstorm-new-release-date-december-2018/
"As a team we have decided to make some shifts in the direction of Insurgency: Sandstorm. To start, the single player and cooperative story has been canceled for release, and will be considered again at a later date. This is due to its high production requirements and our commitment to deliver to our fans in 2018. The story was a very exciting and new opportunity for us as a team, but we felt we had to make a choice. At this moment it’s more important to us that we deliver a full multiplayer and coop experience that improves on Insurgency; one that is true to our style and what we feel we do best. We know to some of you this decision may be unexpected, and we’re sad to share this news, but this was a shift our team felt we needed to make." From https://newworldinteractive.com/insurgency-sandstorm-2018-update/
They said nothing about cancelling, just delayed.
There’s a good blog post by NWI which may shed some light on the varying performance people are reporting: https://newworldinteractive.com/insurgency-sandstorms-minimum-specifications-explained/
On my end the game was very playable (80-120FPS) on my 4770k/32GB/1080/SSD.
I’ve recently upgraded to a 8700k/16GB while leaving the rest of my hardware identical and it’s super smooth now, probably +30FPS across the board with single-digit frametimes. I found this kinda interesting because the clock speed between the 4700k/8700k wasn’t all that different, and I went from 32GB DDR3 down to 16GB DDR4. So it left me wondering if the increased memory bandwidth of the newer gen i7 (41GB/s vs 25GB/s) made a significant difference when paired with faster RAM. I like to use a RAM disk for my tmp Shadowplay directory to keep constant writes from my SSD, so maybe I benefit more from having a bigger pipe to my memory than others. But that’s just a theory of mine.
When it comes to most games we simply look at the CPU, GPU, and the amount of RAM a system has. But in Sandstorm currently, we have to consider the storage medium and other factors a little more than we normally would.
But optimization is still a work in progress, remember that the game is slated for a console release so that bodes well for lower spec PC’s going forward.
> next to no noticeable visible impact.
Ambient Occlusion should have a huge visible impact, it's what gives 3D images realism and makes them look less flat. To give you an extreme example:
https://www.filterforge.com/images/version2/ambient-occlusion/ambient-blocky.jpg
it's called nividia freestyle it's only available with nividia graphics cards https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/#Freestyle
I would actually prefer a procedurally generated map ( i.e. No Man’s Sky) so that it would be a unique experience every time, and after each game players get to rate the map which will improve the machine learning process for generating maps, rather than having players memorize the maps like the back of their hands.
But of course this is highly complex and not economical for the price of the game and the clients base.

Super depends on how much cheap is and how much quality you want. This one is $630 and gets you to the low/med game setting with just over 30fps. Going cheaper than this and you'll be seeing lower than 30fps at low graphic settings unless you start dropping resolution and certain maps may be unplayable. The insurgency2 ported maps on mod.io are far less graphically demanding and you could run those all at higher settings. You can connect to community servers running those for a performance boost. Theres a lot of posts on increasing performance as well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086226DDB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_3YGZRZZZ8WPTEVD7ZWXR

Literally found on Amazon. Probably shit quality, even Norinco would be better. But still, I wouldn't call it "exotic".
Thanks! I didn't get any notifications for this so I apologise for the late reply.

Nice, I probably won't use this now since I'm so old school but this definitely would have helped years ago!
I'm not into modding my config a lot like others are. I also don't really mod anything else like DPI. I just go with what works.
Oh! I also use the Steelseries Qck+ mousepad. I've used it for about 3-4 years. Before that I used the Razer Goliathus Speed Large (I think?)
I'm probably going to order a new one soon as mine is pretty dirty
I googled what you mean and I do have the "Enhance pointer precision" box checked in Windows 7's Mouse settings. In the game itself, Raw Input is set to true in the settings.
As for my surface I use a SteelSeries 4HD Professional Gaming Mouse Pad. I used to have a Razer cloth pad but in the humid months it would get sticky and my mouse wouldn't move across it as well so I went to plastic and it glides really easy.
Sometimes it fucks me when I'm going for a really precise headshot for someone behind cover but most of the time it lets me whip around and hit people while hipfiring so it seems to work for me.
I do have my dpi/sensitivity set fairly high. I like to be able to move around with minimal physical movement as lazy as that sounds.

I was just curious if anyone else on here is having the issue and fixed it. I have tried the suggested fixes but none worked
