When I saw it in the theater, as an adult (I'm that old), I remember having a touch of fear as Scrooge was alone in his room before Marley and Marley appeared and did their song and dance. I thought it was interesting that a Muppet film could have that effect on me.
I have the DVD, which I think has the deleted The Love is Gone song.
With any mention of Dicken's classic, I have to share a link to A Christmas Carol as told through the Doctor Who universe... it's nothing like the Muppet version or any version ever told. If you like the base story, you'll enjoy this unique take with real time travel on a Victorian-esque alien planet where the changes in Scrooge occur in real-time with Scrooge struggling with the knowledge that he's changing as a person as his past is changed, against his will.
I pair Ferris Bueller (1986) with Better Off Dead (1985). They're completely different in tone and content, but both are highly unusual and equally funny. Better Off Dead is a bit more experimental, but has as many lines I'm still quoting 33 years later. "I want my two dollars!"
Sadly, the only way you're watching Better Off Dead legitimately is to rent it at a good brick 'n' mortar video store, or buy the disc. Youtube has a super low resolution version.

That would be a terrible idea and a tragedy, indeed, even if CGI effects make things potentially look so much better than they did in the '80s. Pretty sure it still wouldn't be the same.
Luckily for us, they did actually make a Ghostbusters video game in 2008 or so with all of the original actors (except Rick Moranis, I think), which had a lot of the charm and humor of the first two. Aykroyd even said "It's probably the closest thing to Ghostbusters 3 we'll ever have" or something to that effect. I enjoyed the game mostly for the nostalgia; the game play was fine, but nothing amazing. Definitely worth a play through if you have a chance.
If you love the movie then the book AS YOU WISH written by Carey Ewles(Westley) will be pure enjoyment as well. So many wonderful stories about making the film and the other brilliant actors. Amazon link
The Muppets have the best pure telling of A Christmas Carol.
The best non-traditional retelling goes to the Doctor Who version, complete with frozen people, flying fish, and real (not dreamt) time travel changing events in the life of Scrooge.
Sorry, in the US, it's only streaming via Amazon Prime in the Doctor Who Christmas Specials category.

I loved this movie as a teenager when it hit cable back in the 90s. I watched it so many times. It's been forever and I'm due to watch this one again. Pre-racist drunk Gibson in his Hollywood prime, James Garner who was already a living legend when this came out and Jodie Foster putting in a fun, lighthearted turn after her hardcore performances in The Accused and Silence.
Bummer, just checked and it's not on any subscription services I have right now. Think ima rent it anyway.
You can rent it on Amazon. I was going to recommend this but since it's out of print now it's ridiculously expensive, I picked it up for $15 a few years ago.
I liked your review. Unfortunately it's been so long since I've watched them that I can't give a meaningful comment.
I'll say this though. This is a great compilation of the story and well worth the read. Musashi by Yoshikawa Eiji.

I've read The Guns of August because of that movie, because of the way Kennedys talked about the book.
It looked as if that book saved the world from MAD so I wanted to know if it was any good :)
She seemed incredibly well-adjusted to me. I don't know her well, but she and her folks seemed very close and loving. A kid develops real "emotional scars" and neuroses from not being loved, being abused/neglected, abnormal treatment by the parents, etc. and she had parents who loved and nurtured her.
I have a feeling that Robert and Aline, if they had any big flaws as parents, might have had a tendency to be too permissive (pretty much the opposite of strict), not given stringent enough boundaries, or not provided enough structure. But, as I said at the beginning, she seemed more well-adjusted than 50% of the population.
If you can, you should seek out her comics or her book. I've read Robert, Aline, and Sophie's work extensively. Robert's work especially has its own serious problems, but I respect him as an artist, and I do enjoy a lot of his work.

I agree that the 97 version is worth a watch, although not as good as the original. You can find it on the Pirate Bay. That is how I was able to watch it.

This film is wonderful! It is one of the best films you never hear anyone talk about. Everything about this film is killer, the plot, the characters, the editing, etc. This film really opens you up to a part of the world which is not really known for film.
I know this is a shameless plug, but I made a review on City of God yesterday and it would really help me if you read it. You don't have to if you don't want to, it's just a suggestion. https://letterboxd.com/mayaderen_fan/film/city-of-god/
If my brother ever had the kind of money to afford put me through something like that I'd hope he'd just buy me a house instead.
I'm not sure what your politics but I have a theory that the producers/writers for that movie had some access to covert gas lighting/gang stalking psyop playbook stuff. Jay Dyer covers the Hollywood/intelligence community/satanism/cabal connection stuff and talks about some of this stuff.
Here's a starter.
https://saidit.net/s/altrightwebm/comments/mvw/they_are_throwing_it_in_our_face_jay_dyer_and/
Then there's predictive programming stuff and also Mark Brahmin covers some of these topics.
And if you think all this stuff is crazy check out one of the victims.
Why is your lack of evidence ok, but my lack of evidence a problem? At least be consistent.
Here’s a quote from the IMDB page. It’s taken from the DVD commentary with Director Leonard Nimoy.
“Leonard Nimoy has said that when this film first came out, whale rights activists caused an uproar. These groups believed that the effects and models portraying the whales were actual footage, and that actual whales were held in captivity or filmed too close to their habitat.”
There, I have presented evidence for my claim. Hope that helps.
Penn & Teller did a video explaining the death shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzyw7AcHbuY
There are also a lot of other videos out that that explains how it's all possible. I've seen a video that talked about if a gunman really was on the grassy knoll, Jackie Kennedy would have been shot as well, based on the angle.
The ultimate book for debunking the conspiracy theories is https://www.amazon.com/Reclaiming-History-Assassination-President-Kennedy/dp/0393045250 (I highly recommend the audiobook).
I enjoyed the movie, but it is VERY loose with the facts and bases a lot on rumors. I really wanted to believe in a conspiracy (government? the mob?) but I don't anymore. But I'm not an expert and anyone can believe what they want.
If she likes it I highly recommend the kid's book which follows the storyline of the movie. It's really cute and was actually how I first introduced my 5 year old daughter to E.T. When we eventually watched the movie she sat there with the book and kept pointing out where in the book we were as the movie went on. The book is one of her go to books for bedtime too.
If you liked that I have another suggestion - Thriller "a cruel picture". It's essentially the basis for Kill Bill.
