i don't know about any f-keys but you can toggle prelistening in the bottom left corner. this feature is only available when you are in "disk" mode (searching local hard drive instead of maschine library) and have supported file selected (example: supported: wav - unsupported: mp3, mono-files). screenshot for reference
Regarding sampling from the computer I'd highly recommend this https://rogueamoeba.com/loopback/
In regards to the cable for your phone, the MK3 supports stereo 1/4" TRS cables. So you'll need a male 3.5mm to male stereo 1/4" TRS cable.
Durahk is right, this is a common problem on windows. The way the ASIO drivers are designed only allows one program to utilize them at once. For example if you have a web browser open that recently played sound and you go to try to open Maschine without first closing the browser, the web browser will still have "control" of your speakers and Maschine won't be able to make sound with your speakers. The good thing is that you can check this very easily.
Open Maschine
Navigate to audio and midi settings
Select Asio as the driver and then click the asio config button
---A WILD WINDOW APPEARS--- it should look like this ->https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=BDCB566C8197BFA7!6719&authkey=!AAZt2BG6LxuYHWo&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.png
5.Next to the speaker options on the left should be little + symbols. Click the + symbol next to the speaker you are trying to use (the active speaker will be bright blue, and the inactive ones will be grey)
You should now see a couple different subparts to that speaker. Like "mix", "output" and "capture", or maybe just "Out" and "In". Ignore em all except that one that says "output" or "out" or otherwise indicates sound output.
If there is a great big red X next to the output of your speaker (like in the image link I provided above) then that means some other program still has control over your speaker. You need to find that program, close it, then open up maschine.
Thanks man! And I'm no expert, but I'd say using EQ is all about approaching it subtractively, while thinking about space inside of the mix.

I use this with both my Mk3 and Ableton Push, and it works perfectly for my needs. It frees up a ton of desk space.

If you plug the M+ via USB it will load up in controller mode automatically. If you hold the power button for a couple of seconds it’ll restart and the power button will turn red which means it will boot up in standalone. If you plug it in only via DC then it will boot up in standalone mode. I use the following battery and cable when I wanna take the M+ and go jam in a park or on the road:
https://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-Scarlett-Audio-Interface-Tools/dp/B07QR73T66/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=VNDJBE67JJ5O&keywords=focusrite+2i2+2nd+gen&qid=1659483708&sprefix=focusrite+2i2+%2Caps%2C130&sr=8-3 so this would work? I’m just curious if it comes with the proper cables tho..something that can go into a MacBook.
Since the Mikro dosent have MIDI ports I'd need something like this from my laptop headphones jack?
I bought two of these 1. for a Maschine Jam to sit diagonal to MK2 and the other I had my Helix Effects on my Desk. They are very sturdy and you can adjust them to whatever angle you need. they don't budge either.
No problem you got this, these the joints you need bro...trust me it'll work. Plug right into the front of the scarlett.

id have to suffer a loss on that pad. As I use it for another kick drum tuned higher for those nice accents ::)
Heres a little video I just made of some finger drumming!
I use this one as it was recommended by a lot of musicians/content creators https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07CZPV8DF/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=15121&creative=330641&creativeASIN=B07CZPV8DF&linkCode=as2&tag=barrydanielmu-20&linkId=a1b143b07951a379e72fb7aa6d325d14
I have no complaints (other than the price).
Any thunderbolt 3 hub will work, and you'll be better off with a powered hub. I use this but it's probably overkill for your needs.
OWC 14-Port Thunderbolt 3 Dock with Cable, Compatible with Windows PC and Mac, Space Gray, (OWCTB3DK14PSG) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JMH6BSY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_H09T53J6MKQ5WY8ZEDDP?psc=1
Hmmm. Very strange. Seems like a hardware issue with the controller.
El Capitan has done away with the ability to repair permissions from a GUI but you can do it by following these instructions:
http://osxdaily.com/2015/11/04/verify-repair-permissions-mac-os-x/
When done, reboot and try again. Also detach all USB devices except the one you're using for Maschine.
Another thing to try is to see if your Maschine will work in MIDI mode. You do this (with or without Maschine software running) by pressing shift and control on the Maschine controller. Try that. If all the buttons and pads light up it means your controller is being recognised by your computer and therefore likely a problem with the software settings.
Also while you're waiting for support from NI, the NI forums are very knowledgeable. Ask there if you haven't already!
I suggest if you don't want to disassemble and clean the outer case, maybe try putting the whole thing in an air tight container with a few of these activated charcoal packs to absorb as much odor as you can.
A good interface with decent drivers is a massive plus, yes.
In the meantime, if you're on Windows, to improve your latency you can try ASIO4All which can push the latency down on most chipsets w/o proper ASIO drivers. Doesn't work for everybody but it's definitely worth a shot.
If I understand the issue, I think you'll have to pipe your PC audio out into the scarlett line in. You can try using asio4all and JACK to do this virtually, but every time I've tried that I ended up using a splitter and cable.
I route each of my Maschine groups to individual channels in Ableton, you could do the same with Logic. For example, in Maschine Group A goes to Ext 1, Group B Ext 2, Group C Ext 3, etc.
I make techno so in this way I can have my kick drum on group A, hats on Group B, Percussion Group C, and then individual groups for basses, synths, pads, etc.
This allows for so much more potential than just doing everything in Maschine itself.
I used to use a program called Soundflower which no loner works with Catalina. I was using Blackhole as a replacement but only allows for 16 channel internal routing (8 left, 8 right).
I threw down for Loopback by Rogue Ameoba and it's fucking awesome, highly recommend for internal routing.
You can also sample directly from Spotify, YouTube, etc., with software like Loopback which is my preferred route. Digging in the digital crates. I find some real dope obscure shit.
On second thought I might remember it incorrectly, I’m not in front of my computer right now but if it’s a problem just convert the mp3 into wav with mediahuman audio converter https://www.mediahuman.com/audio-converter/
Latency's always going to be a hardware issue. If you're asking your PC to do too much, it'll slow down.
As for free DAWs, after BandLab bought Cakewalk they released Sonar for free - it works alright for me, give it a try. https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk
Here is a 8/4 pattern, first played normally, then I selected Parameter, Connections and Type Sel and randomized the OSC, Filter, Insert FX and Master FX section by 30% for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th loop, respectively. (I hope that made sense?)

Warning, sample is normalized so v loud.
this is the listing I'm looking at. I looked at the questions section, and it does appear to require a converter for the Japanese power cable. Is that a common factor with these machines? or just when ordering from Japan?
Looks like I'll also need to pay import fees. Should I bother?
I use this for my plus:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BHMGQ3B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's really a lot more sturdy than it looks and folds to basically nothing. The price is low and I like it enough that I've bought a couple more to have stashed around in different places. One in my backback, one on my night stand and one in my office.
I'm using this Amazo Basic Laptop holder
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00WRDS8H0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's almost a perfect fit for my mk2.
I've been using this backpack for 6+ years. It's a large backpack. Has plenty of compartments including a full zipdown laptop compartment and a headphones compartment.
Nah I meant like the usb type b midi we use in on our maschines ... but I didn’t find one this was the closest thing i found thunderbolt 2 adapter
Thanks everyone for the recommendations. For anyone curious I landed on this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T9NM5QR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It fits the dimensions and the breaks in the lip should help with cord management. I needed something to get it off my desk so a few of these recommendations wouldn't work, I liked the mounted solution but sadly my current desk might be problematic. So the tripod can sit next to my desk and maybe I move it a little here and there when using it. Thanks again everyone!
The (computer) monitor in the center is definitely better than having it off to one side. If you don’t use the (computer) keyboard much, it shouldn’t be a problem.
As for Maschine, you want it to be as comfortable to use as possible. I recommend putting it on this Amazon Basics laptop stand:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WRDS8H0
It’s cheap, but doesn’t feel cheap. It’s all metal and has decent rubber feet, so it doesn’t slide around at all when I’m banging on the pads. The viewing angle is adjustable. One of the settings near the max angle (between about 30–35°) is pretty much perfect. The screens are very easy to read and I can poke at all the controls without arm fatigue. It makes a big difference not having to hunch over it to see what you’re doing, and if you’re mostly focused on the Maschine displays, you don’t have to look over at your monitor that much.
I think if you add that stand and get some speaker stands for your monitors, this setup should work pretty well.
I always buy Deck Saver for my equipment. It’s not cheap but not overly expensive. It will take an impact and keep liquids out.
Is this the mic you've got? If not, what is the model number?https://www.amazon.ca/Tonor-Professional-Condenser-Microphone-Computer/dp/B00PZMP3Z0
If this is the mic make sure the 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter you have on it is a balanced adapter (like a stereo headphone adapter with two rings near the tip) Also there are three inputs on the Mk3. A line in (1) left (2) right, and the mic in. If the mic you are using is phantom powered, you should be able to plug it into one of the line inputs (#1). If this doesn't work, plug it into the mic input with the gain turned all the way down. If this works, great. If not slowly turn up the gain knob until you get a good level.
I bought these ones This
I have a basic Crosley turntable how would I go about plugging that into the audio interface then into the computer as in what cables will I need and will this be an okay audio interface https://www.amazon.co.uk/BEHRINGER-AUDIO-INTERFACE-BPSCA-UM2/dp/B00EK1OTZC/ref=asc_df_B00EK1OTZC/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310853157999&hvpos=1o11&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16587358476956088770&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hv...
I plan on buying the mk2 and want to plug the mk2 into the interface then into the record player but not sure on how many cables or what cables I’ll need if you know
So essiantelly I need but what cables do I need for that product work with basic line outputs on the crosley like speaker line outlets 1x cable to plug into audio interface from mk2 1x cable to plug into record player
this should work for both if you just grab 2
I live out of this Backpack. For the price it's unbeatable. Fits my 15" Macbook Pro, Maschine MK2, Traktor X1, iPad, headphones, and fold-able laptop stand. It also has tons of pockets for cables, power supplies and backup batteries.
Thanks for the reply! As for the cables you were talking about, would these adaptors do?
I've tried plugging in a 3.5mm to 1/4 cord into the Line in but it doesn't pick anything up on the hardware even though there's music playing. I've tried it with phone and computer. Do I need a different type of cord? This is the one I have currently: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JY2D98Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Nah man just buy adapters. They have all kinds, a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter plugs on the end of your cord.
Example. There are tons to choose from and should only be ~$5
I just looked at the interface an options and I'm not seeing any reason why it wouldn't work. Just get a dual 1/4" jack cable like this and try it out.
Guitar Center also sells them. You just need to turn up the volume on the output on the back of the Mk3. If it doesn't work just return the cables or hang onto them, they are extremely useful anyways. But I don't see why it wouldn't work, it's audio going through a cable. You just might need to configure something in the Maschine Audio Interface menu at worst but I don't have a Mk3 so I don't know what the menu really looks like but you shouldn't have to even touch it.
would i be able to use this ? https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B005EHILV4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&psc=1
if so i might as well go for the mk 2 cause im more used to seeing my samples on the hardware its self right.
Not the exact one I have but same manufacturer and size decently priced too at $30
ok guys. update as promised!
this wire i just got delivered today from amazon does 100% work for me on Maschine MK2 (i believe for Mikro & Studio as well since NI said it's the same wire) i have seen none of the known issues like lose of USB connection, LED screen glitches, humming/buzzing, or sending over the wrong sounds when hitting pads. So far it works great!!! it is a little short but NI recommends under 1.5 meters at most, but preferably 1m long. if you want to give it a shot here's the link for 3ft long White Usb-C (macbook pro late 2016) to Usb-B (Maschine MK2, as well as Mikro & Studio) wire. if you have any issues after purchasing this wire with use please report here as well so we can figure out the best one, but i don't think you will have any issues, i haven't seen anything go wrong and i have used it a lot today.
Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YSL66SC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Rh6EybJCVBPH4?th=1&psc=1
Keys are plastic and unweighted, but that doesn't bother me since I'm not a pianist. Pads are not as sensitive as Maschine's pads, but they are still pretty good (I hardly ever use them though).
If you want a really cheap, strictly keys midi controller, then you can get something like this:
Akai Professional LPK25 | 25-Key Ultra-Portable USB MIDI Keyboard Controller for Laptops https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002M8GBDI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_x4qKybPJ5BGGB
The only reason I got my Akai MPK mini MK2 over the LPK25 is because I thought it would be a cool portable midi controller that can kinda do it all. In reality, I only use it for the keys so just get whatever you prefer, both are fairly cheap.
is it 24awgx2c? because i was looking at this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UUBRV9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Rh6EybJCVBPH4 and somebody said it fits my specifications but i also know personally that Belkin is a top of the line brand. the article above says it has to be a data/power cord not one or the other. thanks and i just want to be sure. also says should be under 1 meters (1.5 tops) and i only really need a foot to a foot and a half tops.
I do not have an audio interface yet, but the Scarlett FocusRite looks promising for a beginner. The solo is $100 and the studio is like $150:
Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface with Pro Tools | First https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E6T56CM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Z0WyybSDD32PH
You can also get the bundle (which I might purchase for myself as a late Christmas present), which comes with a mic and headphones. The solo version is $180, and the studio one is $220:
Focusrite Scarlett Solo Studio (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface and Recording Bundle with Pro Tools | First https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E6T54E2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_81WyybVE24PKK
Not sure how great the mic and/or headphones are, but it's a pretty good deal if you need all 3.
My suggestion here comes from my IT background, not exposure to NI gear, but at work when users have issues like this we issue them a powered USB hub.
Normally we saw those errors when they were using USB hubs, only rarely when plugged directly into your comp. Windows comps are notorious for this, especially a few years back when transitioning from USB 2.0 to 3.0- going to the manufacturers website and upgrading the USB driver fixed it sometimes. but I digress since these are PC solutions.
Anyway, try plugging into a different USB port on your mac. If that doesn't work you could try buying a <em>powered</em> USB hub. I don't think that should have an effect on the performance of your equipment- guys here please correct me if I'm wrong on that. It's only $16 so I would try it personally.
Which one do you have?
Have you ever had any latency issues while using Maschine?
so does the software load completely or does it grey out before you get into it? it could be a routing issue, you shouldn't have to even select controller but Im on the older version.
Explain more about greyed out? on the pads or the software screen goes grey? how old is your macbook? it does require a powered usb but i think apples done that for a while.
i use something similar to this, but I'm running an interface and keyboard too. http://www.amazon.com/WHOOPS-Hi-Speed-Extension-Expansion-Splitter/dp/B00VSS32EO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451160175&sr=8-1&keywords=hi+speed+usb+2.0+cable+7+port
Any experience with the Novation Launchkey 49? I know it's all about Ableton and honestly I don't use ableton right now. I almost do everything in Maschine but was thinking of writing the actual parts in Maschine and then using Ableton to arrange them.
Anyways, thoughts on the Novation Launchkey 49?
It took me a while to figure out the A/I thing too. But you'll definitely want one sooner or later. Plus, if you eventually want to implement external synths/instruments, you will need an audio interface to sample from. I picked up this M-track mostly because of the price. It works okay, I only really sample my Microkorg and my Roland TB-3 so the two inputs work great for that and it really helped me to wrap my head around not only audio interfaces but mixers too.
