Yeah it's a Sisyphean late stage capitalist nightmare.
I've cancelled twice, second time was today after 3 hours waiting in a chat room. Today I got "confirmation" that my account was canceled, AND a refund of my last month's charges. Allegedly.
The cancel button in the app (cleverly designed to be difficult to use) works on occasion but last time I canceled it didn't stick.
The phone number 877-646-2892 is worthless. Their customer service reps are worthless. Tweeting does nothing.
To be safe I made a virtual card on privacy.com and set the limit to $1 and changed my billing info. My next billing cycle should be a surprise for them.
The last straw for me was a combination of two factors:
I tried to canceled MoviePass on July 5, but the app crashed every time I tried to cancel. Fortunately I had used Privacy.com to create a virtual card for monthly payments to MoviePass. So, after failing to cancel MoviePass, I just turned off its virtual card. A day later on July 6, MoviePass tried to charge to the virtual card six times, all which were declined, (linked to screenshot of the declined transactions.)
Or look here for some real eye openers. 87% one star.
Sinemia routinely tells one star reviewers who say they've never gotten a response from sinemia customer service to call customer service. Then they report the reviews as "not a real customer". Cuz its easier to dump on a mad customer than fix their problem?

An extra $2 to $6 for high-demand or popular movie, starting in July.
MoviePass must be out of cash.
I'm immediately closing my Privacy.com virtual debit card that's on-file with MoviePass. Today. Now. MoviePass ain't charging me shit.
If on Android, they may be able to get around the compatibility issue by manually downloading the update. It's available here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/moviepass/moviepass/moviepass-3-0-14-release/moviepass-3-0-14-android-apk-download/. Download the .apk file to the phone, then click it and confirm that you want to install (you may have to go into Android settings first and enable installation of "non-Play Store" apps).
Source: Lots of people, myself included, who DO have compatible devices are still getting the "not compatible" update error through the play store. Manual installation fixes it in these cases.

That's what caused the outage on Thursday. They borrowed more money with the loan expected to be paid back half by Wednesday and the remaining half next Sunday.
> If you are running an Android device V 4.4 (Kitkat) or below, you will need to upgrade your device's OS.
Well, this is bad news. My app stopped working after it updated two weeks ago and I've had a ticket sitting in the support queue waiting for any kind of response. It would have been nice to know that the requirements changed.
I have a Galaxy S3 and my provider does not have a newer OS available for my phone. I suppose I'll be calling in to have the card manually loaded all the time now. Is there a limit to the number of times I can do this?
Edit: The app page currently says "Requires Android 4.1 and up". =/
Change the credit card registered in your account to a low balance gift card or some type of electronic privacy card--I've seen people recommending you use privacy.com and assign a card with a $1 limit to your MP account. Then keep MP until December on the off chance there's a time you can use your card in the meantime to see an actual movie you'd like to see.
I created a Privacy.com virtual card specifically for MoviePass. The virtual card is set to limit one charge per month and $10 per charge. So MoviePass can't charge me more than $10 a month and only once per month - so, MoviePass will not be able to "surcharge" me, (not that I intend to stay with MoviePass after my current billing cycle expires; I am switching over to AMC A-List.)
Moreover, I will be able to close or pause that particular virtual card. So, when I cancel MoviePass, I can be absolutely certain that MoviePass will not be able to charge me again.
I'll just leave this here... Again.

/u/bvisse drank the MoviePass Kool-Aid, he's not objective.
I gather he is heavily invested in HMNY, and was pushing the stock on his website at least as recently as when it was a couple of dollars a share. It's now under $0.25 a share.
He should, but doesn't, disclose his portfolio position in HMNY on his blog posts.
For instance, check out this article:
Why Helios and Matheson Stock Just Dropped Another 13%
At the bottom of the article is this:
>Rich Smith has no position in any of the stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool has no position in any of the stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy.
Now, Bob might disclose this somewhere else, but the responsible and honest thing to do would be to have a disclaimer on every post he writes.
I don't know enough about the legal aspects of it, but I think it's certainly unethical to heap obscene amounts of praise on a stock you're interested in that's tanking without disclosing whether or not you're invested in that same stock.
I changed to a privacy.com $5 limit card and that is that. It's interesting, it failed to charge but it says they give me another 30 days to change my billing method. Not like i can watch movies, haven't had one come up in 2 weeks. First chance I get, i'll check in to a movie and ... do whatever i want with the card. Good luck to everyone.

Many have mentioned they got an email stating they opted into the new plan when they never did. So that'd be one way, the other way would be checking your statements closely.
What you can do to protect yourself is change the credit card info in the app to something bogus. I used a Privacy.com virtual credit card with a $1 balance and then froze that virtual card. But others have mentioned changing the CC info to your actual MoviePass card number - that is probably an easier method if it works.
Also other places with birthday rewards include Habit burger which gives out free charburgers, Amc stubs gives you a large popcorn, and harkins theaters gives out $5 discount off anything. No one at any of these places actually checks if its your real birthday or not, so I use these things constantly. I like use getnada.com for throwaway emails.
Have her install this app.
Have her close the moviepass app, and open the one I linked.
She needs to move the little guy on the map to wherever your local theater is, then press the green play icon that's at the bottom of the screen.
Wait a few seconds (15+ preferably) and then restart the moviepass app. It should let her check in and you pay with her card at the theater.
The app doesn't work on some phones but it does on mine, and I tried this process last night with flawless results. Let me know if you need help
>I believe that only applies if the stock price remains below the $1 mark for a certain period of time. Months, maybe? ie, it's not an instant cut-off.
The stock remained under $1 for 30 days, than had to trade above $1 for 10 (not sure days) to be in compliance.
Either way, according to https://www.fool.com/investing/2018/06/27/why-helios-and-matheson-analytics-stock-plunged-ag.aspx The Nasdaq notice HMNY got gave them until 12/18/2018 to get back into compliance.
FYI, I was able to use the APKPure download app to install the new version of the app, sign in and buy a ticket tonight.
hey so found it on https://apkpure.com/moviepass/com.moviepass.mobile
Side loaded just fine and I am back in the application.. here's hoping I don't have to do this every few days... that'll get annoying as crap.
You can try a site like apkpure or apkmirror, where they maintain a history of the apks available: https://apkpure.com/moviepass/com.moviepass.mobile
https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=moviepass
I just created a virtual card on Privacy.com for preparation for when I do cancel. Just in case they try and get cute and charge me. With this site you can set a threshold monthly specifically for moviepass. So if it goes over say $10 a month it won't go through.
You can actually go on their website and they have a cancellation form on there which you can use. Also take a photo of it in case you have to do a chargeback with your credit card company. Another good thing to do is update your credit card info to an empty prepaid number or a fake virtual number through Privacy.
Try a file explorer app like Amaze (play store link)
I don't have to take pictures yet, but I'd expect to find a folder like that in one of these locations: Pictures\MoviePass
, Android\Media\com.moviepass.mobile
, Android\data\com.moviepass.mobile
, DCIM\MoviePass
, or just straight up MoviePass
.
However, all is not sunshine and rainbows with A-List, as the plan also sparked concern among AMC's most important constituency: the movie studios.

Here's all 68 movies: https://letterboxd.com/andymesa/tag/moviepass/films/
The only reason why I saw Rampage is I was stuck in Yuma, AZ with not a lot to do. It was the best rated movie showing in their theater that I hadn't already seen.
I would say you have gravely miscalcuated. I paid ~$89 for year (got it during 6.99 promotional). i dont pay any surcharge nor will i bear the brunt of the newly hiked $14.99 per month. I have watched more than 15 movies in the time since i signed up. ( i am not even a regular user) . I have got my money back long time back and will continue doing so as long as they continue.
$10 on the other hand has surge pricing and now bumped up to $14.99. Not worth it .. i will move to A-list
Although this isn't advice about small claims, you should be able to get the app working by installing it from apkmirror if it isn't showing in the play store: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/moviepass/
Other people had the same problem here.
I believe there is a $10 special discount now for Sinemia in the form of a referral. It is meant to snatch customers away from MoviePass. You get $10, and so does the new signup.

Nope. I'm still spamming the chat in hope that they eventually respond. I was going to ask on here if it was possible to change my billing info to a privacy.com card # and deal with it that way?
>" & I was one of the ones that supposedly was allowed to start up service again. Got an email to that effect in 7/25. I used it once a
Same, they can only charge me $9.95, once per month and I can cancel at any time just by turning privacy.com off
were you successful in getting this closed out with support? i have regal unlimited now so i'm likely going to cancel my moviepass. i didn't learn about privacy.com's credit card proxies until too late, so i can't use that method of suspending a credit card (without a lot of pain). i was hoping that i could use movie pass at a nearby theater (closest regal is about 30 minutes from me) but my theater doesn't have any showings available and i'm not holding my breath that they get added to the movie pass supported theaters.
That sucks. I used privacy to make sure they could never charge me unless I wanted them to. I actually just paused my privacy card and am letting the dust settle on their changes before I make a decision on cancelling.
I changed my cards today so moviepass couldn't charge me in 2 days because I was unable to cancel in the app and support is useless as I have had an unresolved support case open for 3 weeks now.

If I can do a privacy.com and a new account I might try their new plan for one month for shits and giggles
I just created a privacy.com account and set it on pause with a limit of $1, changed my credit card number (I don't believe they store the old one) and then clicked the cancel button in the app. I'll update this if I get charged.
Might want something like this. I have something similar when going to loud music events. Most ear plugs create a muffled sound where these typically reduce all frequencies more evenly.
