These dumb fucks didn't look at the research. NJ is #3.
Get a dash cam... I swear on everything I love I feel better driving through that town with one. Member of Lakewood and Camry, just say it’s a Hasidic... I have to drive through there everyday and they’re all from New York. They all do whatever they want. Just protect yourself with THIS Dash Cam cheap and easy to install. I get it’s frustrating that Lakewood residents get away with shit like this but you have to understand it’s constant. The cops pick and choose their battles.... let’s not forget when they MADE THEIR OWN VIGILANT POLICE FORCE (before people start down voting I’m not racist or politically incorrect, THIS IS JUST HOW IT IS)
Only about 16% of charter schools are for profit and some states like NY ban for profit charter schools, which is always an option instead of just making a blanket statement about how anything other than the current public school model is evil.
I know they’re not perfect but from my perspective as a graduate of shitty urban public schools, the more options we give students in bad school districts the better their options are. Rich people get to pull their kids out of failing schools and have other options, why can’t poor people too?
I was driving on the turnpike last night through Elizabeth and all the plants right there reminded me of the intro to his NJ Parts Unknown episode. I just love that introduction since it perfectly describes my childhood going past those plants.
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5a4l78
So when I got home last night, I decided to watch it again. And then this news today.... crazy.
I am against all bans on information. Yes, I am pro-free speech. And you can buy books on Amazon right now that have bomb making tutorials.
Offer them bagels. Bagel > Donut 99.99999992% of the time.
edit: OK! So, I don't know of many bakeries or delis that deliver. but then it hit me! i tried grubhub! but instead of actually using grubhub, call the place up and say that you saw that they use GH, and was wondering if they have donuts. again. NJ people love bagels. there's 2 places in the edison area on GH that have bagels.
They are Hidden Grounds Coffee Shop, and Amboy Deli
Great job with all the legwork. This list is really thorough and helpful.
Depending on the market, Lawrenceville, East/West Windsor, and the Dayton / Cranbury areas are pretty centrally located and pleasant, but as u/AIPOMN said, kind of sleepy medium sized town.
As a transplant myself I've only ever heard good things about Bordentown. Some good friends lived there for a few years and loved the neighborhood with its tons of street fairs, specialty shops, new, inventive food and chill, almost hippy atmosphere. It worked really well for them as a new couple just starting out.
Another thing you'll have to adjust to is that NJ travel is measured by traffic, not distance. Map says 6 miles? Don't be surprised if it takes 30-45 minutes... Rush hour down Route 1 or the Turnpike can easily triple your commute.
The main thing I would recommend is to try to find a place with relatively easy access to a main highway like Route 1 / 130, 295, 195, the Turnpike,.etc...... or some convoluted mishmash that I'm sure natives could navigate blindfolded on a 2 wheeled tricycle in a blizzard with no shooz.
Disregard the title - I thought the Googles would come through for me (but it did not): "http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g28951-c118992/New-Jersey:United-States:Idiots.Guide.To.New.Jersey.html
I'm sure in the morning I will regret this brief foray into real estate advice. But for now IT STAYS! Take tHaT.
Thermacells work like a magical force field. I've used them hunting in the early fall and you can actually see the mosquitos not entering a small bubble around you.

This one linked is bigger and works better for hanging out, the small ones work well for one person.

You should let your friend's mom know that the Red Cross is a privately funded organization that works on donations, not tax dollars. Not paying her taxes will not help her situation, I guarantee it.
>Oh please. More money = better services?
Yes, that's how it tends to go. Could our tax dollars be spent more efficiently in NJ? Of course. But the solution isn't to just cut funding for schools and tell kids to go fuck themselves, which is what they did in Kansas. >You're not getting much worth for your money.
NJ has the second highest per capita income in the country. If you don't think that has anything to do with proper funding for education than I'm not sure what to tell you.
>Your logic is flawed because federal income taxes are paid by individuals. There's no Mr. and Mrs. New Jersey who pays federal income tax.
You keep saying this as though it means something. NJ residents pay more in federal taxes because we earn more. We earn more because we've invested in education and improving our children's prospects in a global economy. Red state residents pay less in federal taxes because they earn less. They earn less because they haven't invested in education, and now old manufacturing jobs are dying off. If only there was something that state governments could invest in that would improve their citizens' job prospects and make them more attractive to employers.
>If you put up an inefficient and corrupt government that buys union support and has 10s of billions in underfunded liabilities that's your problem. You don't get to deduct your government's mismanagement from your taxable income. It's like if I buy a Lexus RX but I can only afford a Ford - should I deduct that from my federal taxable income? Good luck with that.
Yes, the NJ government has systemic issues with corruption. However, the solution to that isn't to take away the SALT deduction.
It's not terribly cold.
The mean temps for April are in the 50s, In the low 60s for May, and in the low 70s for June.
We're still early in May, so temps around the 50s are pretty average.
You can see in this link that we're on the lower end of average this year.
It can backfire, though.
Take a peek at this (SFW) Imgur album about Dog breeding.
People demanded dogs that were "fashionable" - right now you could say it's stuff like huskies, pugs, shiba inus, etc. So breeders keep trying to "refine" and "improve" the breeds to accentuate those fashionable qualities and it causes tons of health problems for the dogs. Look at all the damage it's done, though. It's been taken way, way too far.
A good popular culture example is Paris Hilton and teacup chihuahuas - chihuahuas as a small breed already have a lot of health problems. Making them smaller exacerbates those problems. Paris Hilton made them more popular so dog breeders try to breed smaller and smaller chihuahuas but their health gets worse and worse...
Breeds used to be largely about function. Now they seem to be all about fashion and the dogs' health is suffering for it. :(
The legislation regulating EZ Pass specifically prohibits the state police from using it for this purpose. For more, go here: http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/ezpass.asp

Just replying to your top comment because a redditor who posts in r/T_D and r/HillaryforPrison is saying "downvote if you hate science and facts and only make decisions based on your fefe’s." Right, cool.
About those science and facts, your sources suck, and you're a rube for the oil and gas industry.
Canada Free Press doesn't pass muster, and its literally a post by the IER. The Forbes article is from the "group director of upstream and industry operations for the American Petroleum Institute." The Institute for Energy Research's Founder Robert Bradley wrote a book called <em>Climate Alarmism Reconsidered</em>, the description on Amazon saying "The remaining sustainability issue for carbon-based energy reliance is anthropogenic or man-made climate change. "Climate Alarmism Reconsidered" demonstrates how the balance of evidence supports a benign enhanced greenhouse effect, and how the case for mandatory greenhouse gas reductions depends on unrealistic assumptions" which is complete and total bullshit.
I bought this for house flies, but it works just as well on lantern flies.

Read this book: The War at the Shore and you'll see how the bureaucrats running the city did this to themselves by not capitalizing on the exclusive entry to the gaming market and making it tough for casinos to expand.

Pretty sure it still works on NJ.com. I know it use to, but I honestly have avoided them like the plague as of recently.
Didn't realize they added SmartHeath cards!
Also works for Samsung Pay (via the CommonHealth app).
I don't think Google has widely rolled out this feature in Google Pay widely, sadly.
I did a story on this with Trenton &amp; its neighboring towns.
TL;DR
Mercer County & Lawrence Twp did excellent jobs plowing, while Trenton, Hamilton & Ewing did mediocre jobs.
EDIT: I forgot to add Ewing & put Lawrence twice.
Here's a small list of towns/cities you might want to become familiar with for a variety of culinary and weekend daytime/nightlife opportunities (in no particular order):
Jersey Shore points worth checking out:
Note: I'd avoid Seaside Heights and Wildwood, but that's just my 2 cents. Depends on what you're looking for.
Since you mentioned hiking:
Check out AllTrails if you want to find more decent spots in the area for hiking.
Waze is a beautiful thing. But don't play with it while you're driving. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands (up) on the wheel. Use the voice commands to report the cops and road debris.
the intersection isn't near enough to the bus stop for the 2 'lanes' to be an issue. they aren't really lanes either, it's just the intersection separation for the cars that are turning, it's maybe 20 feet long and a lot of yards away from the bus stop
here's the google map
Students at that bus stop make driving on that road dangerous and scary for both themselves and people in cars/bikes. They dart out in front of the buses without looking into the street while cars go around the parked buses to get to the intersection because normal people assume that when someone wants to cross the street they will use the super wide cross walk in the middle of the road and wait until the cars are stopped instead of just walking blindly into oncoming traffic
Here is an old vid from his previous show of him where he goes back to Jersey.

There is 1 or 2 more episodes on parts unknown where he goes back to Jersey as well. Probably on Netflix.
The problem is while Murphy is increasing taxes he's spending every dime of that new tax without addressing the elephant in the State, the underfunded public pension obligations. The reason NJ saw so many credit downgrades over the last few years is not because Chris Christie is an asshole, he is, it's because the pension shortfall is leading us to fiscal problems.
If Murphy was raising taxes to try and shore up the public pensions I would support it, if he were trying to find a way to lower the pension obligation in other ways I might support that, raising taxes 2 billion dollars just to spend it on new programs doesn't solve the fiscal issues.
As for not using gimmicks Murphy is raiding the Exxon settlement to fund his budget, something over a million NJ residents specifically voted against allowing last November.
I have FIOS and Comcast in North NJ.
Yes, both -- for the redundancy. I also happen to be a network engineer for an ISP.
The Comcast happens to be my redundant backup connection (I have the minimum plan/speed) and I have FAR more outages on the Comcast connection than the Fios one.
For some actual data:
In the past 8 months (2011-**) outages lasting longer than 1 minute 4 FIOS 88 Comcast
I also have graphs (smokeping!) running here+at work that easily show the last-mile congestion issues on Comcast where I live (basically, when your internet is slow at night -- its usually due to last-mile congestion).
I'd also point out that Comcast is basically using its position of having a captive audience to strong-arm other companies into paying them for access to their network. Comcast VS Level3.
I subscribe to the highest tier FIOS offers 150/35. Not only is that 150/35 insanely fast, but its not remotely unusual for me to get FAR MORE than the advertised speeds, I can easily push my connection to 170+/70+. The fact that that works, and the fact that I can get those speeds on their network, speaks highly of the quality of their network.
Now, you might not want those speeds (or to pay that much!), but you'll still notice the better connections.
tldr; Verizon.
I don't have an answer for you, but use the Waze app to report speed traps to alert other drivers that there is a cop in the area.
Its wonderful and has alerted me where cops sit.
Bonus: You can also report other hazards such as potholes!!!
In addition to Facebook, try posting on NextDoor:

There are missing dog/cat posts on the NextDoor group for my neighborhood in Morris County almost every other day...I always see happy reunification stories on there. Neighbors are always willing to go out of their way for a worried pet owner. It's definitely worth a shot.

Your cult wants to install your Dear Leader as a king, and you have the audacity to style yourself as an anti-monarchial freedom fighter. This is hilarious. Read a book about how the 1st amendment actually works. Here, I'll even get you started:
> I will cite Hazlitt, chapter eighteen.
Are referring to Economics in One Lesson? Which ridiculously named chapter are you referencing to? The Fetish of Full Employment, The Curse Of Machinery or The Mirage of Inflation?
To ensure longevity of the weekly pass, I would download the NJ Transit app and buy a weekly pass to use and display to the conductor on your phone. It is timed, so it will display live how long you have left to use it. If you want, I'd purchase it right before you board the train for your first train ride, or the day you arrive.
I use it to for my Monthly Pass. Hope this helps!

I highly recommend checking out Free Code Camp and working through their courses. The basics of HTML and CSS can be learned in a day, but bear in mind that the learning curve of JavaScript is much steeper (it's a full-fledged programming language, while HTML and CSS are not).
Nice! If anyone else wants to get it from Best Buy, you can use their product finder to check story inventory. Use this link. Looks like it's selling it out fast.
I ordered one from Amazon. I cancelled my Google Play order when I realized I could get it without paying for shipping from Amazon.
Breastfeeding also continues to provide immunological benefits for as long as it continues. As for the timing of weaning, The Mayo Clinic says:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/infant-and-toddler-health/in-depth/extended-breastfeeding/art-20046962
Worldwide, babies are weaned on average between ages 2 and 4. In some cultures, breast-feeding continues until children are age 6 or 7. In other parts of the world, however, this is less common and can sometimes provoke uninformed, negative reactions.
I put together a spreadsheet with all of the events - it should be open for everyone to edit. Enjoy!
The Planet Money podcast did a super interesting episode about the business side of weed in states that it's been legalized in- namely how growers have difficulty getting capital from banks, because it's still illegal federally.

Fyi.... Use the Waze App to mark where cops sit.
But yep. Rox Cops have nothing to do (Roxbury is a quiet, residential township). So I guess they have to do something, like give out tint tickets, to rationalize all the high paid cops.
Do you have Amazon Prime? I was just on there shopping for birthday presents for my nephew and saw this:
Yard Games Giant Tumbling Timbers
Jenga Giant is available on Prime as well.
Except States that have done this no longer have their state issued IDs recognized by the federal government for certain purposes. Californians approach may not be good enough as it is under DHS review.
I'm not against the idea in theory, but it needs to be a separate license so that our standard IDs do not fall below federal guidelines.
Congrats to your wife!
Red Bank is exit 109 on the Parkway, just a few miles south of PNC. It's a great town for restaurants. Here's a list of suggestions.
I can vouch for the Molly Pitcher Inn (great waterfront views), Dublin House, and Juanito's. Buona Sera is okay, but IMO the food didn't justify the prices.
The other restaurants on that list have excellent reputations, and there's a lot of variety. I'm sure you'll find something. Just be wary of parking downtown: lots are scarce, so you will most likely have to find a spot on the street.
About the same amount of sleep, woke up 5:30 feeling sick but not enough to not work, looked at wunderground, news12, weather.com, NOAA and WXRisk. All but WXRisk said the same, mild snowfall. WXRisk map actually had totals close to what we got but one report is unconvincing when everyone is reporting something else.
Got chewed out hard by boss man first thing this morning, worked my backside off to fix the issues and got it done, that meant leaving way later than I should have, soon as I left it started coming down pretty hard, Pretty much all of my 7 hour commute was spent either gridlocked or staying hyper aware to not get stuck.
At least I'll be paid for it? Pretty sure I'd trade the pay for not enduring that hell. Get home safe and soon. Don't get close to home, get all excited and have some sort of accident after surviving the rest of the drive. Happens all the time.

Yes, this is a strong El Nino event, as was anticipated. Whether climate change made it stronger than the historic mean is a different topic, but it is correct to say this week's temperatures are an artifact of the El Nino effect.

Randomly popping in here: but if you two are interested, there’s a book called Death Quest I read it from cover to cover. Found it fascinating. Goes into great detail about the death penalty, costs, LWOP vs DP, DP in different states, etc. I thought it was a page-turner, but I also have a morbid curiosity with this kind of stuff and law. I wrote an eBook about NJ back in April!
It's mostly set in South/ Central NJ, but my MC is from Livingston.
I'm tweaking the opening for paperback, as beta readers have told me it's very heavy in the beginning and unlike the rest, but there's also a certain missing Russian rediscovered in the Pine Barrens ... and yes, it's just an eBook currently.
There's the app Tasker that can do really really simple things like turning your Wifi on when you get home, and it can do really advanced things like reading keywords in a text message from a specific number and using GPS to get your current location and send the address of where you currently are. Holy run-on sentence batman.
My point is.. it might be possible to do something with Tasker like in /u/css01's comment.

At least this is apparently easier to read and interpret:
> The FKGL for the ballot title is grade level 13, and the FRE is 44. The word count for the ballot title is 88, and the estimated reading time is 23 seconds. The FKGL for the ballot summary is grade level 12, and the FRE is 38.5. The word count for the ballot summary is 113, and the estimated reading time is 30 seconds.
> For the 2017 ballot, the average ballot question required 20 years of U.S. formal education (graduate school-level of education) to read and comprehend, according to the FKGL formula.
No worries we're in the same ballpark.
While the parties didn't officialy endorse Christie many of the leaders did. Like Hudson County's Brian Stack and Essex County's Joey D.

Good, they got what they deserve and the issue fixed in the courts. The majority of their employees are not minimum wage, more in the 100K/year range and not in NJ.
So tell me how again this applies to minimum wage in NJ?

Little or no salesy-stuff, not much selection. Quality, no-haggle great price, easy returns.
Just have a pretty good idea of what you want to buy, (if you go to Sleepy's or Macys to look, that's one way).. and remember that each warehouse probably has different stock available, (and the webpage is different, too).. and they can have some small variations in price, even on the same items. Unless you know an employee, they probably can't or won't answer questions about what is actually in stock over the phone - you have to go in. If you aren't a member, they'll still let you browse as a guest.

That's usually more due to water main breaks, or when the treatment plants flood I thought. The reason for the current boil water alerts is actually because two of the treatment plants are underwater/have no power.
NYC for example, has mostly combined sewers, which is why when they get heavy rains and whatever you always hear about sewage discharges into the rivers, while you don't hear about that happening around here in NJ. (or at least, I haven't).

I think you misunderstand that "white tears" is an academic term, not an opinion or belief. When the woman said "white tears" she was pointing to a literal, static definition. It's in print.
I understand you think I'm announcing a belief. I assure you, the book White Fragility is literal real book. The subject of "white tears" is written about in a dedicated chapter in a well authored form.
You can also rent the HD truck for 20 bucks an hour and get the tow version.
The "portable" ones are only good for branches no thicker than 2". Anything more than that and they won't be able to do it, or you will be fighting with them the whole time and having a hard time.
I rent the tow behind one once a year in the spring to do brush cleanup. Makes the work super easy.
If everything you have is small, and sub 2", you can buy an electric chipper for ~100 bucks. No idea how good they are, but they get solid reviews.
Likewise your town probably does brush pickup. Ours will pick up stuff once a week as long as its no longer than 3 feet and no more than 4" thick and you follow their rules for bunldling or containers for it. They mulch it all up, and also offer the mulch for free to town residents, or will deliver it to you for like 20 bucks a load. (not the greatest of mulch when it comes to consistency, you wouldn't want it in your front flower garden, but if you are just doing mulchy stuff its fine)

I've had three windshields replaced. It sucks. My deductible is 500 and Safelight conveniently charged around that cost, making going through insurance kind of a waste of time. If it's patchable, and you don't mind figuring it out, I have found these kits invaluable. I have patched a few pebble strikes. Do it as soon as you can. Any change in temperature or stress will cause the star to expand. I'm not sure what the legal threshold is, but the kits usually describe what works and doesn't work.
i've never seen one...i think the risk of forgetting to charge it or set it up would come back to burn you in the end. the convenience of the camera always there and on is what really makes it work.
i have mine wired in to the connection for the power on the rear view mirror, so all of the wires tuck away up under the liner on the roof. There's also power there for the interior lights too.
SInce most cameras use a mini or micro USB port for power, you can get USB-A plugs that wire into the 12 volt car circuit and provide the 5 volt USB power. something like this
Quite a lot of variation here on Amazon.

it is a 3 zone = $148 for a monthly. Online purchases are for download to that buyer's device ONLY (meaning the pass is only good & viewable from the buyer's phone). A physical pass, that can be given to another, needs to be done from a vending machine or in-person, obviously in NJ or NYC. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.njtransit.njtapp

I just finished a book suggested by a friend named Maus.
Really good graphic novel. Explains the Holocaust from a Polish Jew's perspective. Recently, some people wanted to ban this book out of school. When in fact, this is probably one of the best point of experience stories about the Holocaust I've ever read.
Things like this are exactly why we need books like this. Kids don't understand how damning speech like that is. They think it's like the F word and don't realize it's more like racism and murder.
Try Eureka California. The weather is exactly the same every day of the year.
July 4? 60 and cloudy. December 25? 60 and cloudy.
Its the best place on earth.

Orolay has a bunch of different coats. Their female coat this one has been pretty popular for a few years. My friend has it and commutes by bicycle over 3 miles to work and loves it. (she also goes over the bridge so lots of wind) I have a more form fitting one they dont have anymore, most similar to this one and it's great. For instance, I walk outside every day for >45 minutes, even if it's snowing, even if it's 8 degrees. My typical outfit is a tank top, a knit sweater OR a hoodie and the jacket and I'm very warm on my walk. I also commute to the city every day and then walk ~1M. As a huge baby in the winter, it's a great jacket.

I use 4-6 of these traps in my large 2 car garage. They will catch a TON of crickets and many other insects.

I don't know anything about DIY but I have a friend who's done stuff. Not sure how much he costs.
Here's his company's facebook page if you want to look at some of their work: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Quality-Custom-Remodeling-LLC/23826957464

Mass shootings are typically defined as 4 or more people. I don't think that's changed. One study showed that these types of shootings were down 70% during the Federal Assault Weapons Ban.
Another study showed a 54% reduction in school shootings.

It didn't reduce overall crime, but it did impact the mass shootings that plague out country today.
I was actually scoping out this hill on the ramapo reservation trail. Have you seen it? Do you know how far into the hike this hill would be?

I was curious where it is too. I think I found it in Montague, NJ. I found similar photos on All Trails. Heres the link for that one.
