That slice will take time to heal. Wounds on any other part of the body might heal faster but the one on the butt line will take time.
If you have any questions on the above tips. I've the wound healed now and I'm able to sit on my back with slight bearable pain.
I would definitely get one. I have an office job and I have to sit for multiple hours a day. I have had this cushion for about two years and it’s still holding up. I would also suggest getting up to walk around a little every hour or get a standing desk.

Unfortunately pilonidals have a high recurrence rate. The laser treatment might be one of those which is minimally invasive but higher recurrence rate than other procedures. The benefit of it is a shorter recovery time, no big wound etc. You may want to look into cleft lift procedure.
I had to deal with 5 pilonidals myself before they finally stopped. But I also made lifestyle changes to try and keep them away which I think has had a huge impact. I wrote a book on it and it might help you feel less alone and frustrated to read on my journey. Check it out on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1610638071&sr=8-1
I purchased this one from amazon. I got mine removed last week. I’ve been using it every day around the house and in my car and it works well.

Donut cushions tend to add a but of pressure to the area as well, get yourself something called a “Coccyx cushion”, its like a seat shaped like a butt, but with a small cut-out at the top, you sit it over that and it does wonders, way more comfortable than a donut
Im sorry you're going through this. I had to deal with 5 surgeries myself before it finally went away. I wrote a book about my experience. It might help you feel less alone knowing others went through rough patch and made it out. I now live a happy healthy life and the pilonidals taught me alot about taking care of myself. Check out the book on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92
Unfortunately they have a high recurrence rate. Surgery is likely going to be needed but even after that the pilonidal can return. He needs to make some lifestyle changes to try his best to prevent another one. check out this book on amazon with details on how I overcame 5 recurrences. It may be something similar to what your son will go through. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst/dp/B08R2CD3ND/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1610725436&sr=8-2
Yes, I dealt with 5 recurrences and had them treated surgically. I have now been piloniddal free from about 5 years. If you want to learn from my experiences check out this book on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst/dp/B08R2CD3ND/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1610313492&sr=8-1
My scar gets sore when i sit on it for a long time (I'm IT so that happens quite a bit), and this can be mitigated by having a Coccyx pillow. The soreness is surface sore, and doesn't compare to the deep pain of the cyst, and is easy to avoid now that I know what is causing it.
I took 1 week off work for the surgery, and worked from home the second week. It probably took another 2 weeks before I could work out, or run.
I am a vet so, I went through the VA healthcare system for the surgery. My surgeon was awesome, but I didn't get to choose which one I got.

This pillow is similar to the one I purchased, in case your curious:

Keep the area from from hair, shower everyday, use a shower glove to scrub, use No Bump after shaving, dont roll or bump into your tailbone are, use a coccyx cushion, wash your hair from back to front. If you're on your second one, I can feel your frustration having been through 5 myself. I wrote an amazon ebook about the experience, what I learned from it and what research is saying about them if you want to check it out here: Me and My Pilonidal
I know it’s hard. I’m sorry. If you can take breaks to get off of your tailbone, try. Also if you don’t have a coccyx cushion, I highly recommend one. Amazon has some good ones. I use this one and like it. Hi,
Nexcare makes a strong, no residue tape that my son used with the gauze.
The vast majority of the time, one surgery will be all you need. You need to find a surgeon who has experience removing these cysts. People suggest a general surgeon or a colorectal surgeon. Your primary care physician (if you have one) will be able to give you a referral.
In the US, at the current time, health insurers cannot deny you coverage or charge you more because of a pre-existing condition (healthcare.gov information).
All US health insurance plans incur costs in the following manner:
monthly premiums that, depending on your income, the federal government may subsidize in part or in whole
a deductible that you must pay before most features of the plan pay out
an out-of-pocket maximum that you must pay before the insurance covers the rest at 100%
co-pays that you must pay for little things such at the doctor and surgeon visits you will need before the surgery itself
US plans come in different levels of coverage, depending on how much they cover (most all will cover the surgery); obviously, those that cover more will cost more. They also differ on how much your deductible costs. Many, especially the most basic ones, have deductibles in the thousands of dollars (the surgery without insurance still costs more than these deductibles). Others are called group plans and have deductibles in the hundreds of dollars; I have one of these.
More information and plans can be found at healthcare.gov. That website will answer most of your questions, and others, such as details on plans themselves in regards to your situation, can be answered by the health insurance companies.
Hey man, hairy guy here.
I first use a normal rechargeable shaver to shave the general area. Its a bit fiddly but i stand in the bath with my leg on the side and you get most of the hairness away. I then go in with a bladeless hair remover (basically the ones women use for their faces) and press it down on the area. I've had surgery and I feel fearless moving the shaver over the scar, it works a treat and keeps the area super smooth.
I got that tip from this sub, here is a link to the one I own. My only extra advice is to make DAMN SURE THAT EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS YOUR ASS HAIR SHAVER. I wrote a label on mine and keep it in a bag with a big warning label so that my partner doesn't remove her face hair with it!
Maybe get one of these? Who is doing your CL? You're probably gonna be laying around most of the first week.
I had about 5 recurrences over about a 10 year timeline. Unfortunately these suckers can come back even when you feel that you are completely in the clear. There might be a build up happening under your scar so I would head to the doctor before it becomes more painful. I had to rush to an emergency room for one that came back very quickly. Check out this book on amazon if you're interested in learning from my experience: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
I have a spare facial hair trimmer which I use to get rid of the majority of hair, but I don't go close to the wound area. I just get most of the hair this way and then go in with a womens facial hair trimmer.
This little puppy is fantastic as removing hairs from the area without causing cuts etc. I'm a hairy dude and I have to empty it out a lot when using but it leaves the area very smooth and hair free, a great investment. The only problem is that you MUST mark it as not fit for human consumption, god forbid a woman in your bathroom tries to use your bum hair trimmer! 😂
from Amazon to pick things up until your doctor says you can bend. Helps with everything from getting your pants on to getting your Uber eats off the welcome mat. You also don't realize how many little things you drop throughout the day until you're not allowed to pick them up yourself. This saves you from having to wait for somebody to get the stuff for you every single time.
Thank you very much for the info!
8 months ago I had an infected pilonidal cyst where I couldn't sit or lay down without immense pain. After going to the doctors I was given antibiotics (No surgery or cleaning of the sinus) and just two days later it popped and drained on its own and I felt immediate relief.
While I was healing/it was naturally draining, I purchased a memory foam seat cushion for my office chair since I sit alot at work so I place it on my office chair.
Specifically: https://www.amazon.com/Tsumbay-Cushion-Booster-Washable-Wheelchair-Black/dp/B083JX8CY1/ref=sr\_1\_64?th=1

I still have a very small (id say a pea-sized or two) lump I feel under the skin just above my tailbone there but no pain or discomfort since.

I hope you dont have to experience a recurrence but its always best to be prepared mentally and physically. Fingers crossed for you.
I went through 5 pilonidals with different surgeons myself. Alot of times they see this as a minor issue and dont give us the attention we need to deal with this. I learned alot from my experience about these things and wrote an ebook about it. Check it out on amazon if you are interested: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1

Iv been dealing with a flair up and what I have learned when I do is to keep it clean, take ibuprofen, use rice in a sock heated up in a microwave as a heating bad 2-3 times a day and then as soon as I get done with each heat session I used this draw salve [Amazon link to get the cream](www.amazon.com/dp/B09TTQG9FN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_08ZQZB8MKVX2S51ZNRR3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) I got off Amazon and it has cut my flair up down so much faster
I had 5 pilonidal myself and they were definitely some of the most stressful times of my life. I had surgery after surgery and spent so many days thinking my life would be hopeless and miserable. Once I overcame it I gained a new type of strength and joy in life. I wrote a book about the whole experience if you want to check it out. It might help to know you're not alone in the experience and there is hope. Check it out on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
The experience can be very stressful and its usually because of the "unknown". Not knowing what will happen can really suck. Check out this ebook on amazon. It goes into detail about different procedures and what its like dealing with one and what happens every step of the way. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
You can use blue silicone tape instead! I was the same way, my skin got so irritated but once I switched to this tape it helped a lot.
Of course, understand the timelines make it difficult. Also very hard when you work on a small team, I understand that pressure! Working from home is great for recovery, I needed to take alot of showers and the office just couldn't have worked for me. I went back into the office at around 9 weeks but I changed jobs and my new role is 100% remote anyway so its just heaven for recovery!
Lying on your side will get better fairly soon. I found the first few days were very uncomfortable but after 4-5 days you can get more comfy and stay int he same spot for a long time!
Have you bought an orthopedic cushion? That will help with cars and sitting in general for the next month or two :)
Unfortunately there is a high chance it will return since you only had it drained. The small tunnel/pit that is causing it will likely still be in your body. Most of the time a surgery is needed to remove it. I had 5 recurrences myself and yes it is very mentally draining. Check out this book to learn all about it since you might have to deal with it again. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
It is draining because your body is attempting to clear out the debris and blood cells that have built up in the area. Since the cyst should not be there your body tries to do something about it but since it cant do it, tthen you have drainage which is like the side effect of the little battle that is taking place. It doesnt hurt but that can quickly change at any moment if you develop an infection. I once had one go from painless to very painful in less than a few hours. Check out this ebook on amazon to learn more about these things because its likely something you will deal with for a long time. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
This is the one I use. It’s a little pricy but it has worked so well for me. And I take it everywhere I go. Work (up to 16 hours a day) in the car, fits good in my Dodge Dart, and everywhere else I may go.

Do you sit on a cushion at all? I had surgery in September. Had a wound vac for 7 weeks. And now just packing it myself daily. And I work 8-12 hours a day. I use a seat cushion seat cushion
I also use aquaphor on it to keep it moist and to keep germs out. I’ve had great luck with it so far. I take the seat cushion everywhere I go. And I shower twice a day and wash the area with dial(the orange bar soap)
Ok sorry if I came off rude. I was honestly just shocked.
Personally, I’ve never had my wound open up again. It’s been roughly 2-3 years. I use a regular loofa like most girls use (I’m a guy - one of the ones like this):
MainBasics Bath Shower Loofah Sponge Pouf Body Scrubber Exfoliator (Set of 3) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07CWHGR8J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_1T89223AYB2RSW3JWJP9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Personally, I apply some pressure to it and do it quite a while. I really wanna clear out and exfoliate that area. I do the same for my arm pits and groin creases. Anywhere you get ingrown hairs. Lighter around rest of my arms and legs.
This is the cushion that I got and I use daily. Take it everywhere I go. And it has worked wonders. I’m still using it four months after surgery and I can sit for 8 hours at work now and be fine.
I had 5 pilonidals myself over the course of a decade. They finally stopped after my last surgery and I made some lifestyle changes. I wrote a book about the experience and what I learned. Here is the amazon link if you want to check it out. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
Hydrocolloid bandages! i use these. I, personally, put on the hydrocolloid bandages until they fall off or swell with white puss underneath pull off gently by stretching it along the skin, clean with alcohol, and pop another one on or let it dry out with a piece of cotton if needed. you can shower with the bandage on and they reduce a lot of the tenderness
hydrocolloid bandages! i use these see a doctor/ dermatologist asap and take pictures in case it is not inflamed when you get there. In my personal experiences , i would avoid homemade pastes and squeezing the area, i personally put on the hydrocolloid bandages until they fall off or swell with white puss underneath pull off gently by stretching it along the skin, clean with alcohol and pop another one on or let it dry out with a piece of cotton if needed. you can shower with the bandage on and they reduce a lot of the tenderness
hydrocolloid bandages ! ones i buy they pull out puss, decrease tenderness and can be left on for days
I also have issues near the anus but I am getting a cleft lift this month.. as far as a cushion, I use something that looks like this: lifevv Air Inflatable Seat Cushion 17" X 17", Hemorrhoid Treatment, Bed Sores, Coccyx & Tailbone Pain, Pilonidal Cyst Perineal Pain, Child Birth, Prostatitis, etc https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01INGK5MA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_H7GR1QFAXTGWJPBV9HKM
He will feel nauseous and probably have a headache right after the operation. Then the first shower will be stressful and there may be gauze changes to deal with. Day after day it will get easier. Check out this book on amazon if you want to know what the entire experience is like and how to make life changes to try and reduce the risk of a recurrence. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
Hey! My husband also has a pilonidal cyst. We're currently going through the process of trying to find someone local who is able to preform the cleft lift in Maryland. We've been struggling to find someone who does this in our area.
One of the things that we've done to try and help him while we're waiting for his surgery is purchasing him a seat cushion. We've purchased a few of them, but this one from amazon seems to be providing the most relief for him. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08D3GMR78?ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details&th=1
If anyone has any recommendations for surgeons that preform a cleft lift in Maryland, I would greatly appreciate the information!

I went through 5 pilonidal surgeries and know how frustrating it can be. I have been pilonidal free for about five years now so there is light at the end of the tunnel. If you're interested I wrote an ebook on amazon. It covers some of the research on pilonidals and my own experience dealing with all 5 recurrences and the lifestyle changes I made to deal with them.
For the trip:
DO NOT SEAT! Lie on your side on the back seat instead, bring 2 pillows, one for your head and one to position in between your knees.
Try taking at lest one break per hour, keep the area clean and dry during the trip, In case you feel that a flare up is coming, you can try positioning a warm wrap on the area, this is very good:
I Keep it clean taking several showers per day, and I clean the tailbone area with Hibicleans (especially after every bowel movement)
Home remedies that work for me:
Soaking the area with warm/hot water (I direct the handheld shower by the area for about 15 minutes 2/3 times per day)
Shaving the area regularly (with a new or sanitized razor each time) Or laser hair removal
Using Oxy pads 1/2 times per day after the shower ( let it dry before you get dressed)
Using loose clothing and cotton underwear
Hope this helps, It does for me!
I'm sure there are others that would work, the tailbone cutout is the important part. The memory foam/gel combo is comfortable, too. Make sure you take some breaks, 10 hours is a long stretch even if you're in perfect health.
You will likely need to have surgery to remove it. Unfortunately I and D has one of the highest recurrence rates because it just clears out the debris but does not address the root cause of the pilonidal. Check out this book to learn more about them and personal experiences of dealing with them. It can be helpful if you are about to have multiple recurrences. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1615845719&sr=8-2
For anyone who wants one of these caftans (undyed), here is the link:
If you want it dyed, DM me.
Incision and drainage has the highest recurrence rate for treating pilonoidals because it usually only clears out the debris build up but does not remove the sinus itself. Your body may be clearing out somethings but the pilonidal may need to be removed surgically in an outpatient procedure. Check out this book on amazon with personal stories and review of research on pilonidals. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
I am not sure if this is your first one but they can often return 2-3 or more times so its best to get very informed on them now.
I&D has a high rate of recurrence compared to other procedures. Your doc might say wait and see because often times pilonidals are not considered a serious problems and some doctors have an old school view of it. Pilonidals can be random in the sense that one day it might be gone and not come back for like a year or many years, or it could never leave until its operated on. If you wait and see, you will know your situation but just prepare for the possibility of pain and a future surgery. Since this is your first one I suggest you learn as much about them and what might happen. Check out this book on amazon with personal stories and review of the medical literature: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=QNS99CU3O8PT&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1613417996&sprefix=me+and+my+pilonidal%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1
These things do have a high recurrence rate even after treatment. If its painful then it is likely infected. The problem with them is that often different doctors perceive them differently. Some will suggest antibiotics first, others go straight to surgery. It really is a problem because of that. There are different treatment options such as incision/drainage which is done in a few minutes at most hospitals, or more intensive excision surgery which can be a few hours. I would suggest you learn as much as possible about them because this can be start of a long journey for you. Check out this book on amazon which talks about the causes and treatmens in addition to personal experiences of dealing with pilonidals: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2AGR1L1BG1WFA&dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1612971122&sprefix=me+and+my+piloni%2Caps%2C210&sr=8-1

I had 5 recurrences myself until they finally stopped so I would argue yes it does get better. These cysts taught me to take care of myself better and live a healthier life. In a way they actually helped me. I had 5 recurrences before I made lifestyle changes and believe that has helped prevent a new one. You can check out how I dealt with all 5 and what I learned with this amazon ebook. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1607442104&sr=8-2
Yes it is possible. Since theses things form like tunnels under the skin it can make its way there. Unfortunately closed wound procedures have a high recurrence rate. If the first surgery didnt work, you might need to go in again and try a different procedure. I myself went through 5. If this is your first pilonidal it would help to get informed about them and the lifestyle changes that might prevent them. Check out this amazon ebook: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92
You might be getting more concerned because you are becoming an adult and aren't brushing aside things like this anymore. Ignoring it wont make it go away and avoiding the conversation with your parent and doctor is only delaying the inevitable. Trust me, even if they think you're weird that will pass but the cyst will not unless you do something about it. I got my first one around 17 and had to deal with 5 recurrences because I tried to ignore it alot as well. So if you need to some motivation check out this amazon ebook with personal stories and summary of research on pilonidals: https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1606752374&sr=8-1
Well its complicated unfortunately. You may not develop any symptoms, or it will come and go on its own every now again. Or it can turn into an unbearable nightmare. Its very existence is a problem since it should be there but without infection you often times wont feel it. In rare cases it will go away by itself and its not really understood why. But the majority of the time treatment will be needed. Theres different options but if you want to learn all about that check out this ebook on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Me-My-Pilonidal-Little-Cyst-ebook/dp/B07TTVGZ92/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=me+and+my+pilonidal&qid=1606238309&sr=8-1

Ok, they have a high recurrence rate and a ton of factors come into play. Check out this amazon ebook if you want more info on them and to read some personal stories of dealing with them and lifestyle changes that could prevent a recurrence. Me and My Pilonidals
Pilonidals have a high recurrence rate. They usually start as a small tunnel and when debris buildsup inside them, they can develop into an pilonidal abscess and cyst. Unless she is one of the rare, lucky cases, there may be a surgery in her near future. Antibiotics treat the infection but not the root cause. Even after a surgery the recurrence rate is high which makes it important to make some lifestyle changes and do her best to prevent another one. I wrote an ebook on what the research says and personal experiences of dealing with them. Check it out on amazon here: Me and My Pilonidal Cyst

If it continues to hurt as you explained then it is likely to have returned. The 12 week healing time sounds odd. But that would be enough time for another one to emerge. I understand your frustration with this thing I had to go through 5 myself. If your interested I wrote an ebook on amazon about research and my own experience. Me and My Pilonidal
Since you only got it lanced, the chances of a recurrence are very high so its likely that the pilonidal is still there. If thats the case then you cant really prevent it since the procedure didnt really get rid of it in the first place. You can try to manage the pain but you need to go in to see a doctor to see if they recommend surgery. It sucks I know i suffered with them throughout college for years. If you want to know more about them and my personal experience check out this amazon ebook. Me and My Pilonidal
Hello, it doesn't have a name. It was a bit hard to find one online when I searched for them (pilonidal cyst pillow) there are some on Amazon. I ended up finding one in a store in my city, it was focused on eldery care and so! My personal pillow isn't the donut shaped with a hole in the middle, mine is the one with the opening in the back (coccix area) just like this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Coccyx-Seat-Cushion-Maximum-Sciatica/dp/B00K0ZI1YW?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace what I recommend is ordering online or go to some shop focused on elderdly care or physiotherapeutic stuff sometimes they have this pillow but they just don't name if for pilonidal cyst, if they do know great. Otherwise show them a pic. I would also recommend you to try them first, personally I prefere them a bit "harder" then soft because if I sink in it hurts more for me. I hope I could be helpful.
i wrote a book on it if your interested. It has both research info on treatment, causes etc. And my own personal experience dealing with recurring pilonidals. Check out the ebook on amazon here: Me and My Pilonidal

The surgery recovery depends on the the type that you get. Closed wounds heal faster than open wounds. Open wound depends on the size of the excision.... and there are other factors. I have been back at work in less than 2 weeks with a closed wound, but have also traveled with an open wound that had not completely healed up. The focus should be on taking care of it during and after healing to prevent a recurrence. Check out my ebook on Amazon if you want to learn about them and my experience with 5 pilonidals. Me and My Pilonidals
I have dealt with 5 pilonidals. I wrote down my experiences from surgery, post-op, recurrences, and how I dealt with them in this Amazon ebook: Me and My Pilonidals
He will probably be tired, nauseous, and cranky after the anesthesia so having the bed and tv remote ready for when he gets home would be helpful. 3 weeks recovery time seems quick and I have had a few myself but even if he feels great in 3 weeks he should ease back into activities because the inside of his body will be tender. On top of that he is still at risk of a recurrence so make sure that he starts making lifestyle changes as well. Ex. keep area free of hair, use shower glove to scrub, use coccyx cushion, clean up after sweating, sitting with great posture, and more. Check out this amazon ebook if you want to know more about them and how I overcame 5 recurrences. Me and My Pilonidal
I have had 5 operations and some were very big open wounds that were centimeters from my anus. It is very freaky because it seems like going to the bathroom would be impossible but I got through it fine each time. The chances of recurrence are high but cleft life has one of the best success rates. I got my first pilonidal around your are. Check out this ebook on amazon if you want to see how I got through 5 surgery experiences and what I learned from it: Me and My Pilonidals

Yes you can still do surgery. Hi, it is normal to have soreness because of trauma caused by the procedure but that should go away over time. As for prevention shave the area and use no bump to prevent ingrown hairs. Use a shower glove to scrub in your crack, shower every day, twice a day if possible. Dont sit for too long. Use coccyx cushion. These things unfortunately have a high recurrence rate so do your best to try and prevent it. I had to learn the hardway after having 5 surgeries. Check out this EBOOK on Amazon to see what research says about it and how I have been pilonidal cyst for almost 5 years.
I order a stinky yucky drawing salve on amazon that takes care of them within a few days! It’s worth the try and under $6!
Smile's PRID Drawing Salve by Hyland's, Relief of Topical Pain and Skin Irritations
My incision is still pretty large from my surgery in April, but because I had to go to class still I actually bought one of these. The gap in the back is so you're not putting pressure on your tailboan/coccyx where the incision/cyst would be. It helps me drive and sit for longer periods. Just a suggestion!
