yea so typically protogens are gonna use USB-C since USB-A is just outdated, though older models still use USB-A or micro USB. sometimes you may find mini-usb on models from 2006 to about 2012 at the very latest, though most of them will have adapters on hand, since it's always been a compatibility issue. there's also a few firewire protogens running around but their time is coming so don't you worry about them
you will want to be concerned about older models using USB-A however, some of the earliest models use USB 1.0 and a lot of modern USB devices will not work on 1.0 ports, including mice and keyboards. oftentimes these protogens will need motherboard upgrades, but if they've been running pre 2001 boards in 2022 they're probably going to be very defensive about hardware upgrades
it's a lot to keep track of but to be safe get a usb c to usb a adapter, they don't cost much
remember, consent first! you never force a protogen to reveal their port.
Is all good, but the led panel I have on the top there is this right here:
Rayhome LED Matrix Panel 14.6x3.6” Bluetooth Smart APP Control Flexible led Panel Addressable RGB Panel Pixel Pattern Graffiti Text Animation Display https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MQD24MH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RAXYZD7YF0EGQ9CXXD54?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s nothing too special, but it does a pretty good job for what I had in mind for it.
Oh gosh, I’d probably have to decline it, as I don’t really have any idea how to code normal leds. The ones I’m running in the head are just simple Bluetooth leds I found at a convention, similar to this
Coolbird Blue LED Name Tag, Rechargeable Wireless Bluetooth LED Name Badge Reuseable Price Tag 44x11 Pixels Digital Sign for Restaurant Shop Exhibition Nightclub Hotel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RX59KC1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_47T8VWJBG46446RN6QCK Surprisingly, they fit pretty well into the inner frame of the head with a tad bit of modifying.
The ears are just led strips I coiled up and plan on laying led foam over them, then the ear design.
You need 64x32 P3 LED Matrices. You can get them on AliExpress for $25 or if you need them quickly, Amazon for $35 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JSKF21/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_DYX1WTV4NJ2VXE6Z8Y4E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
If you really wanna splurge you can get them from Adafruit for $45 a pop. They have better quality control, though I haven't had a problem with the AliExpress ones yet.
I have a band lab, haven’t posted any extratone yet, but one of my next albums will have a ton of speedcore + extratone, I’ll probably start posting on my YT channel sometime in the future too
