PS3 wifi is not great by 2021 standards, id go with the wired connection.
If you gotta have wifi maybe something like this could help? Note that i havent tried this myself, just a suggestion: https://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Ethernet-2-WiFi-Universal-Wireless-GWU637/dp/B018YPWORE
>So how do I switch it to Celsius?
I don't think you can .. i could not find a setting either.
Ending up just download a Farenheit to Celsius Converter app on my phone to do the conversion.
That's a great choice for a mechanical drive! However, if cost is no option I'd recommend an SSD for reasons I mentioned previously. This is the best SSD you can put in a ps3, I have one in one of my backwards compatible models
Thank you for the prompt response, greatly appreciated! Any recommendations? I was thinking of this...
Western Digital 1TB WD Black Performance Mobile Hard Drive - 7200 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache, 2.5" - WD10SPSX https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082LWP1MQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_EM9CW1CTKN8FBFVCZ3E7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Thoughts? At this point to keep this alive and kicking, as well as fat and happy... Cost is no option. This will be a legacy console to pass down.
What brand of thermal compound did you use? I learned when working on mine that using a generic type didn't make things any better, but using a 'good' one like Arctic MX or Noctua NT-H1 made a huge difference.
Also, I agree with other people pointing to the location... I keep my PS3s on raised wire racks (this one), turned 90° from the wall so there's nothing above, below, or behind them to trap in the hot air. (I also have them near an open window if I'm playing at night when the room is warmer than it is outside.) Fan speed is set to auto, but rarely goes over 25-30%, with temps usually in the 65-67°C range during games.
Side note: last time I tried switching to EvilNat (from Rebug), I had temp spikes that would have the fan going nuts and even one overheat-protection shutdown on my Slim; when I posted about it last year, a couple of other people said they had the same problem. If you've already done everything else others have suggested, you might temporarily try the last available version of Rebug just to see if your temps remain high.
I would use 1.5 and 2.0mm, that’s what the original design uses. you could try all 2mm, but that’s going to be experimental of course, not something I recommend when reselling.
I’m really bad at calculating the exact size sheet needed. I did write the size and quantity in my guide, you could sketch them on paper And measure. Im sure a full sheet of 1.5 and 2.0mm is more then enough though. Not the best answer I know.
I've only have the Magic-S Pro so I can't really speak on the Wingman but yes! my PS3 is also jailbroken.
It uses bluetooth for the controllers listed on the page.
Before, I mostly used my Joycons from the Switch or my Xbox 360 controller for the PS3.
Both worked fine and I didn't notice much input delay and if I did, it was very minemal.
There's instructions on how to sync it to Bluetooth and how to use wired controllers.
However, there's two things to note, it doesn't work for safe/recovery mode, even with a wired controller.
I had to buy the VOYEE since it looks the most legit 3rd party Dualshock 3 controller out there.
Since then, I don't really use my adapter anymore for the PS3 but I have been using it for my PS4 because my controller broke for it recently. I've been playing it with my Joycons lmao.
Another thing about the adapter is that there's another one called the MAGIC-NS adapter from Mayflash as well. The difference is that it can't play on the PS4 but only on Switch. Both adapters can be used on the PS3 console however, its up to you which one.
Hope these answer your questions, let me know if you have any more!
You can buy an adapter. I recommend this one Mayflash Magic-S Pro Bluetooth adapter , especially if you have a Switch.
I also found this that another person posted on here. Wingman XE
There is PS3XPAD but I couldn't get it to work with my PS4 controller.
Other than that, I don't think there's other ways unless you buy an official or a 3rd party Dualshock 3.
This one works just the same as an official controller, build quality is a little less good so it's a bit fragile if you drop it on the analogs but it works in the system recovery menu. I use this for recovery/exiting to xmb and a ps4 controller for gameplay
That controller is fine for gameplay too did fine for BO2 zombies / Skate 3 but PS4 controller definitely preferable

Voyee on Amazon makes a good DS3 controller for cheap. My friend and I both use them. I live in the US but you should be able to find it by searching Voyee.

Price, and a brand name that you've heard of. I got this 1TB WD drive from Amazon for $75 and have been very happy with it so far.
I personally bought my e3 flasher on aliexpress (specifically, this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/E3-NOR-FLASHER-with-4-parts-for-ps3/32708496798.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.Sb9F1z) I thought it was defective at first because the blue leds weren't turning on when updating, however it did update even without turning the leds on and I was able to jailbreak my ps3. Definitely recommend it as it's cheaper than other flashers you usually find out there
>Or is PS3 emulation already solid and nearly problem free?
Again, check the compatibility list to answer your question

You'll also need a pretty beefy PC too

What do you think about this one?
>It offers it's own client software but only for 32bit and 64bit Linux so I must assume they don't mean PowerPC/Cell BE.
The PS3 runs 64bit Linux. Chances are their software will work.
In the other comment i made, i linked a wiki page of active projects.
If you find one there that's to your liking and runs on BOINC, you can run it on Red Ribbon Linux.

> "Support for the PS3's Cell microprocessor and the subsequent PS3GRID project was dropped in 2009 due to updated firmware preventing the installation of required third party software."
With a downgraded PS3, third party software should not be the issue.
I'd be surprised if they removed the CELL/BE platform from their software, since it's also found in other systems.
Should be a fun project though.
The closest thing I could suggest would be to change your PS3 DNS to AdGuard DNS. You could also apply it to your router for basic ad blocking across your network
https://adguard.com/en/adguard-dns/overview.html
Hopefully it might offer some success?
Gotchu. Just downloaded it myself it's fine, If google says 'your privacy is not safe blah blah' just hit advance and continue. It's fine.
The official discs are encrypted. Here's a copy/paste from https://rpcs3.net/quickstart :
Use jonnysp.bplaced.net to download the appropriate .ird file that matches your title ID. If there isn't an .ird file that matches your title ID, you cannot use this method to dump your selected PlayStation 3 disc at this time.
Be sure to check the title ID in case there is a different edition of that title. e.g. Uncharted 2 Game of the Year Edition. You must use the correct .ird with the same title ID, otherwise it won't work. (Example: .ird file for Demon's Souls US disc doesn't work with Demon's Souls EU disc).
Using PS3 ISO Patcher, select the matching .iso and .ird files, then press Patch to apply the decryption keys to the .iso file.
Using 3K3Y IsoTools press Decrypt button and select the .iso with patched-in decryption keys. This will produce decrypted .dec.iso file.
Optionally, validate that you have successfully obtained the correct copy of your game. You will need to install PS3 ISO Rebuilder tool from jonnysp.bplaced.net Load your .dec.iso file and your .ird file in the program and let it verify the dump. All of your files must be either Valid or Not required.
In 3K3Y ISO Tools, use the Tools drop-down menu to select ISO > Extract ISO and then select the decrypted .iso file to extract its files. Another option is to use 7-zip or any other software that is capable of extracting .iso images.
The now decrypted iso should work.
Yeah.
The solution I've generally settled on is creating most of the ISOs from my computer using this tutorial (scroll down to Obtaining PS3 Format Software and then Method B)
I have a Blu-Ray drive in my computer, so using those programs I'm able to create decrypted ISOs of all my games, except the ones that are unlucky enough to be Game of the Year editions or GameStop/Walmart special versions.
As those less common versions of games don't have IRD files available for them, they can't be decryped using that method. Those ones I'll just rip using the PS3 to a different hard drive, and then copy the files onto my NTFS drive.
It's not easy, but hey, it's Homebrew. It's not necessarily supposed to be easy.
>Sadly, anything you buy new "Today" over 2TB won't work.
Not exactly -- you just need to search for the right type of drive. Just look for 512e, 4Kn, or Advanced Format drives (these do not all mean the same thing, but the end result is the same -- being able to use MBR for sizes larger than 2TB. Even Amazon sells them, like this 16TB one. Based on my very brief search, they tend to be enterprise drives, so pricing may be a big deterrent.
PowerA Wired Controller For PS3 - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LB4KGU2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_A8XMA2FXKCCS0E5PFR91 i bet this is bigger, and it still has official branding on it, my only issue is that it's wired
I had luck with getting a 500gb hybrid SSHD that I just installed yesterday. Only ran me 35 bucks on Amazon though they do have 1TB version for around 100 dollars. The SSHD seemed like a happy middle ground for me since the PS3 can only handle SATA1 speeds anyway.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B99JU5M?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
SSHDs use a NAND ram cache to speed up data movement I believe. Just my 2 cents if you want something cheaper than going a full SSD route.

Lameness, well I think I found a possible solution. I found this

If I’m reading it properly, this should allow me to use a controller wirelessly and bypass the failing module in the console.
You can buy a Japanese slim in excellent condition for only $140 complete in box, on Amazon. That’s where I got mine. Just click on “more buying options”. This model slim can be jailbroken with a CFW.

haven’t found an answer for how much power the drives ask in exact value aside from saying it’s bus powered. if it helps i’m most looking at this hard drive
I had a spare 1TB SSD that I put in mine a little while back. I honestly couldn't tell any difference in load times or performance. You can get a 1TB regular hard drive for around half the cost of a SSD. I'd recommend just doing that. Something like this would work fine.
These are the controllers I’m using. There were no first party ones in stock when I bought them
They use analog for PS2 classics from the play store so I don’t know why it won’t work the same for an ISO
I have been told this works:
I plan on getting it soon. but others have said it works perfectly.
okay i will look into setting recommendations and I have a ps2 to hdmi which simulates component quality but i will look into an oscc as i do have component cables laying around i didn't want to admit i use a converter this one https://www.amazon.com/EEEKit-Adapter-Playstation-Converter-Monitor/dp/B077RYCNM6/ref=pd_lpo_23_t_1/258-6584904-3922564?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B077RYCNM6&pd_rd_r=6c6bf8e8-bb6e-4cd7-b05c-398c3d5423eb&pd_rd_w=vTqcg&pd_rd_wg=7bIbU&... at first lol as it is frowned upon i guess in the ps2 gaming space. and yeah it could be that it is a brand new tv to me at least also
Or you can even use an HDMI splitter to do this: https://www.amazon.com/avedio-links-Extractor-Splitter-Converter/dp/B07H94D77V
That's what I have in my PS3. It's way cheaper on Amazon btw.
If you have an Android phone or other device, you could try kWS - Android Web Server. This solution worked for me first time.
i wanna try that. i wonder how easy the steps are to do so because we can get this and do it . https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST2000LM015/dp/B01LX13P71/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1520352865&sr=8-3&keywords=2tb+2.5
I did it with a hair drier to warm up the adhesive that holds the CPU IHS in place, then I used some old gap gauge measure things (https://www.amazon.com/Uxcell-Measure-Feeler-Blades-0-02mm/dp/B012FD5JLO) removed from the holder, covers both ends in electrical tape and started at the corner of the IHS with the blade on a slant like this / so that the cutting edge is always going to hit the bottom of the IHS and not the die. Slowly wiggle it through, apply more heat if needed, then the next corner and so on.
The RSX, I removed that one with heat, a bit of card and a flat head screwdriver. The card cut to fit under the IHS as far as possible, then the screwdriver goes in. A combination of the heat and twisting the screwdriver gently results in the IHS popping off as it has thermal adhesive applied to the four memory chips at each corner.
I kind of stocked up on console for a bit, I had 3 or 4 faulty YLOD consoles to practice on over the course of a couple of weekends before doing it to my working CECHC03. By then I was a pro at it so took me a couple of minutes IIRC instead of 15 to 20 minutes.
Before I booted the console it'd be on fan stage 1 then go through 2/3 and 4 pretty quickly and then stay there. Now it goes 1, then 2 after playing some games, stage 3 only kicks in when the room is quite hot. Never had stage 4 yet.
~~Did you check the *Debug Settings? Or try to convert it to DEX with Rebug Custom Firmware.~~
> playerkp420 - "Disabling HDCP in Debug Settings only works for real DEX PS3s. http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/HDCP"
Nope, it is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Drive/dp/B01LQQHI8I/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1514473683&sr=8-4&keywords=wd+1tb+external+hard+drive
I have tried using a y cable for it though and that doesn't seem to work with fat32 format either.
I looked into and and apparently does nothing. HDCP is a hardware issue so my only solution is a splitter. I ordered this
https://www.amazon.com/HD-102-Powered-Splitter-Certified-Support/dp/B005HXFARS
If you're looking into splitters that strip HDCP then try https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004F9LVXC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6wsnAbD5AW648
I purchased one a year ago and had success stripping HDCP from VitaTV and PS3.
Thanks for all the help.
I figured out that my ethernet card in my laptop can only support up to 100 mbps. Hence I am getting 10mb/s-12mb/s
I tried it with my gf's laptop which is has a gigabit ethernet card and I got a total of 20mb/s
I have 2 questions: 1.will buying a external usb network adapter gigabit will solve my issue for my laptop? (something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017QSNNE8/)
2.what's your speed? I saw people actually getting 50mb/s(http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=57363) >@urbananonymous this is how i do it always, and the speed can go up to 50 M/s depending on your PC
is it even possible to achieve that? o.o
I've had the best luck with 3tb Seagate Expansion drives.
I have 3 of these connected up to my PS3. All my games are in ISO format and the drives formatted to NTFS. When they were fat32 they take forever to load the game list etc.
btw when I was testing only 64k clusters worked with fat32.
My drives are all mbr primary single partion. They both worked fat32 and ntfs. NTFS just preformed better. Multiman cannot read 3tb ntfs drives though. Iris based managers have no problem though.
