This is a major theme in the book Rheumatoid Arthritis Unmasked: 10 Dangers of Rheumatoid Disease that I am currently reading. https://www.amazon.com/Rheumatoid-Arthritis-Unmasked-Dangers-Disease-ebook/dp/B074CLX8TT
There is the suggestion that it should be called Rheumatoid Disease, vice Arthritis, since the disease is so much more than just arthritis but also the argument that a name change won't do much now.
People also don't realize how much faking we do to appear "normal".
It's also known as Plaquenil. Discovered as an antirheumatic while it was being used to treat malaria (hence the "quine" in the name (https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-6986/plaquenil-oral/details).
It works for most people. I've been on it for a few years, with no problem. They recommend an annual visit to an opthalmologist, as there's a slight risk for macular degeneration; I haven't had any.
I always find Renoir a great inspiration.
"When a young Henri Matisse asked [Renoir] why he kept painting, Renoir is said to have replied, “The pain passes, but the beauty remains.”
I'm gonna try this soon.

Those blister packs are the bane of my existence. Luckily I only have 1 in them for now.
That's called trigger finger. It's caused by inflammation of the flexor tendons and the tendon sheath that anchors them to your hand. It typically gets better with physical therapy or local injection. Doctor should be able to address either option. Edit: this happens with or without RA. Not necessarily a sign of poor RA control.

Mine did! I had such severe swelling that I dislocated my kneecap while walking. Doc said my kneecap was just floating around and slipped way, way off groove.
Unfortunately, it took over a month and it occasionally reoccurs during a flare but here's what helps me:
Compression brace. My favorite has removable supportive rods on the sides and opens in the front so you don't have to pull it up over a swollen knee. I've tried about a dozen braces and this is my absolute favorite. https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-hinged-knee-brace-small/medium/ID=prod6375300-product
Elevation!! Sleep with your knee elevated on a pillow. I really liked that this pillow stabilized my knee and elevated it comfortably. I wasn't readjusting every couple hours because it held its shape. https://www.amazon.com/ComfiLife-Orthopedic-Pillow-Sciatica-Pregnancy/dp/B01ARJ7SBM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=Knee+pillow&qid=1624145517&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFVT1pPUFBMSzJLUFMmZW5jcnlwdG...
Don't be afraid to use crutches. I was worried I was being dramatic when I reached for them, but the swelling goes down quickly for me when I quit weight bearing for a bit.
Steroids also helped mine a ton! Do you have a rheumatologist? I'd tell them what's going on and see if you can get a dose pack or taper.
Good luck! It took some time for mine to go away, but at least I didn't need surgery! My kneecap found its way back home once the swelling went away lol
They definitely help. The particular ones I got show unavailable now. I also found that during bad flares, switching to a vertical mouse also helps to relieve a lot of strain

I would recommend seeing an occupational therapists. They can help with sizing, braces and other aids. Here in Ontario they are covered with a referral from you rhumy or through the arthritis society. As for the compression gloves my OT reccomeneds, and I use IMAX Brand. They do not have wrist adjustments, so maybe aren't the best for you, bit I thought I would note, if I wear any brand of compression gloves for too long, I get stiff and painful. I wear them when I am doing something I know will strain my fingers, but try not to wear them for more then an hour at a time.
Also have you tried a wrist wrap? Sometimes I use them in conjunction.
“The first year: rheumatoid arthritis” is a good one - written by a patient expert! The First Year: Rheumatoid Arthritis: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed https://www.amazon.com/dp/1569243646/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_XSY587SY0X36EA2WZ3CX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I don't have a response to your question unfortunately, but as a side note I'd recommend you try a "vertical mouse" for your computer usage. In my experience it's a bit more comfortable for the wrist than the typical mouse.
Here's an example one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FPAVUHC/
This applies to paintbrushes and drawing tools as well, I came here to say the same kind of thing! There are these small plastic beads you can buy that will fuse together into any shape you want. I use these to make larger handles for my brushes etc that are molded to a comfortable grip the shape of my hand. They are not as soft as foam, but you can do a layer of foam tape/grip tape over the plastic if you want it to be softer.
Amazon link to the kind of plastic I use: Moldable Plastic Polymorph Plastic 22OZ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077K5Z2Z8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-CC4CbDXJQ9PR
This makes me so incredibly mad I could spit. 1) that health insurance in this country isn't universal yet and 2) that the doctor was so utterly an ass. If you post or message me your area, I can help look up resources. edit: do you qualify for Medicaid? https://www.healthcare.gov/medicaid-chip/eligibility/
This is the rollator my hubs uses. He has a balance disorder with ataxia. Being able to brake with each step helps him keep control. It's fairly light weight, comes with a cover for checking on airplanes. He replaces his about once a year due to wear and tear, but he uses it 24/7 and is a pretty big dude, so YMMV.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00VO6DNY4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_3E3VFPKZP9JX62NYY96S
My wrists are pretty bad, so I don't think a traditional rollator would be the best choice for me. I'd go for something like this.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0866FSPW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_4GSV1T1C86J7KTAWNMWN
For pencils I really like these: https://smile.amazon.com/Triangular-Children-Kindergarten-supplies-Beginner/dp/B01MG1PKEK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=IQNPUN3VOKOL&dchild=1&keywords=waldorf+pencils&qid=1625539385&sprefix=Waldorf+penc%2Caps%2C202&sr=8-4
We used them to teach writing at a Waldorf school. They are larger and a soft triangular shape. Also the lead is softer, so it takes less pressure to write.
I have RA and I just use an inexpensive (about $40) Ninja Food Chopper Express Chop with 200-Watt, 16-Ounce Bowl.

For me, compression sleeves relieve a lot of pain and instability. When i feel my knees (or a myriad of other joints) flare up, wrapping a compression wrap around it gives me an instant bit of relief.
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001M04WVK/
I've used these for years and they are great but it really depends on the type and cause of pain. I know many like to be surprised at christmas but for medical devices i would suggest showing them first as it may not be suitable, she'll be able to tell you what she needs 😊
This is the one I choose after reading and looking through a bunch Nutricost Zinc Picolinate 50mg, 240 Veggie Capsules - Gluten Free and Non-GMO (240 Caps) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07735XF2K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kh5KFb14VZCP6
When I was first diagnosed I was in high school and had to take all of my notes by hand. My PT gave me a few of these really thick foam tubes that fit over standard-sized pens and pencils, and they were GREAT! I can't find the exact ones on Amazon (pretty sure they were tubes of foam she cut herself), but these or something similar might help!
I buy most things on amazon, hopefully that’s available where you live.

This is the one I got! For me it was totally worth it, on my normal inflammation days it feels great, especially since I tend to get cramping in the bottom of my feet that really can affect my walking. I just apparently can't use it on bad days, that crunching does not feel good. Usually I keep it on the lowest setting, and since it gets warm I just keep my feet in there after the 15 minutes are up for the warmth.

I have RA and I live in the PNW. I feel your pain.
I find it really helpful to track how the weather is going to impact my arthritis flares. The accuweather website actually has a page dedicated to this! This is the arthritis weather for Seattle but you can change it to your location obviously.
I check the forecast every morning and get an idea of what to expect. It helps me plan my day, make decisions about how much pain medication to take, and sometimes whether or not I just need to cancel plans.
I use a Microsoft split keyboard. For washing dishes I really like the OXO palm scrubbing brush. I have AFib, medication manages it and my cardiologist said it will not harm me as long as it's under control, it may become more of a worry after 60.
See a cardiologist and you'll be fine. I did go through testing and wore a holter monitor before diagnosis. I also bought https://www.amazon.com/KardiaMobile-Single-Lead-Personal-Monitor-FDA-Cleared/dp/B01A4W8AUK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?adgrpid=56419504979&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhZHY8cKf-wIVmjizAB2fCAH7EAAYASAAEgKRd_D_BwE&hvadid=274797286041&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9... to monitor and my docs think it's great.
for disposal, I use the BD Safe Clip Needling clipper. It clips off the needle and holds up to 1200 needles and then you just throw away the syringe.

Sometimes you can get them at the drugstore for like $5 a pair. I like that they don’t have a hard sole but that means they don’t last as long. Is ok with me because they keep my feet warm and I don’t wear anything else around the house. I have a pair of crocs that are too big and slip those on over the slippers if I just need to go out in the yard for something.
I am not on SSRIs, but seemingly unconnected drug side effects can definitely be in play.
I had the exact opposite problem, an arthritis med (Plaquenil) caused me mental health issues (depression, anxiety, irritability). My rhuem said that I was one of about 2 people in his 30 years of practice that had those side effects. I also had throat/neck swelling that no one immediately connected to the Plaquenil.
Joint pain is listed as a Less Common side effect of Lexapro: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/escitalopram-oral-route/side-effects/drg-20063707
I know it's WebMD, but it says you're more likely to get lymphoma if you have RA, and you're more likely to get lymphoma if you have active disease vs. controlled disease. So you'd be better off taking your meds.
So I don’t have rheumatoid arthritis, my mom does and is on methotrexate and it’s working for the most part but not completely. I’m not a doctor and I don’t have a good understanding of medicine, but I started reading this book about helping arthritis through the Microbiome: https://www.amazon.com/Keystone-Approach-Arthritis-Psoriasis-Microbiome-ebook/dp/B0713S37RC
I bought this and it's a huge help!
I'm also considering getting the razer wolverine v2 over the xbox elite, I end up with finger/hand pain after playing with either kb/mouse or a controller (I play on PC).
I like the placement of the extra paddles on the xbox elite controller but the wolverine is significantly cheaper in Canada. The wolverine v2 is also wired, doesn't matter to me but might to others.
I also play a lot if fighting games and have a Hori Real Arcade Pro N Hayabusa and my hands feel 1000% better after playing vs using a xbox style controller.
Another thing I do is tape my fingers that are giving me trouble with some Self-Adherent Cohesive Bandages, something like THIS
Okay. My recommendations cost money but—
The kindle paper white kids is literally a kindle but comes with a case, and then you can just turn off the kid mode once it arrived. You can get a ‘page turner remote’ for the kindle so you don’t have to hold it. https://www.amazon.com/SYUKUYU-Control-Reading-Surface-Android/dp/B08T8CZYF3
Then get a lap pillow or some kind of support for the device so you aren’t having to hold it.
This advice costs money so I don’t know how helpful it is to you, but this is what I have done to help with my hand pain and still be able to read books! Best wishes
I read a mix of my Kindle and real books, so I get you on the loss of the experience of a real book.
Would a book holder work for you?

I felt dispondent when I first started having issues and being diagnosed with arthritis last year. It felt like I'd never be able to do anything again but with proper medicine I've gotten my mobility and life back. I've had to make some changes as I get tired more easily, but I've picked up hobbies that require fine motor skills like doll restoration after my diagnosis. So it's possible once the inflammation is brought down you'll be able to do all your hobbies again. Baths were one of my best friends. I take naps when I need it and let my body get the rest it needs. I felt unproductive but it's not, it's being kind to yourself. Voltaran gel gave me the most relief for over the counter medicine. This jar opener when my hands were flaring was a lifesaver as I couldn't open drinks at work: https://smile.amazon.com/Opener-Seniors-Arthritis-Hands-Bottle/dp/B092M8F3QB/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1QIQ1GWTOIQM&keywords=jar+opener+for+seniors+with+arthritis&qid=1661898738&sprefix=jar+open%2Caps%2C205&sr=8-3
I got my cane before the doctor told me to. I fell a couple of times and was not walking much anymore. It’s been many years now and I never leave the house without it. As others have pointed out, it needs to be the right height for you, you need to learn how to integrate it with your steps/gait, and you need a grip that works for YOUR hands/wrists/arms - whether it is the forearm kind or other. This is the one I always use: https://www.amazon.com/Wood-cane-comfortable-sufferers-distributes/dp/B000VW9OUE/ref=sr_1_12?crid=268TSS8VBFPXO&keywords=Ergonomic+cane&qid=1659036266&sprefix=ergonomic+cane%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-12
What I like about that one is that it doesn’t hurt my poor hands/wrists at all and distributes the weight a bit better for me. I’ve found this style cane wants to be a bit taller than the usual styles though so that you don’t bend your wrist too much.
I’m a sashiko artist and I had to take a good 18 months off. There have been weeks with prednisone that I could do some and completed two very small projects. But the meds now seem to be working.
That said I also recommend two products. The first is an easy to grip toy for finger dexterity and thus easy hand strength trainer that have been very helpful throughout the process.
I use a Logitech M720 Triathlon. It has a nice wide grip on it and is easy to hold. It also has lots of extra programmable buttons. Logitech M720 Amazon link
I travelled from US to three European countries a couple years ago with Enbrel. We traveled every 2-3 days to a different city/country. Enbrel can be room temp for up to 2 weeks before use. I bought a little zipper bag from Amazon that is for insulin travel and it works great for my injections. I just cut the prescription label off my Enbrel box and tucked it in there with my injections and a few alcohol pads. I carried it in my backpack (carry on) and didn’t have any issues with airport security or anything. No one ever asked me to take it out of my bag for screening or anything.
This is the bag I have:

I believe this is the same model I have: FLIR One Pro LT iOS Pro-Grade Thermal Camera for Smartphones FLIR Thermal Adapter
If you use it too soon after removing the ice packs, it will obscure the results, so definitely be sure to give the skin time to adjust back to room temp.
You need to get a grip strength device to build up the ligaments and tendons slowly. Don’t over do it cause you can snap a tendon. Try these

I got these from Amazon. If you have Instagram I highly recommend looking at arthritis_life_cheryl. She has videos about compression gloves and splints. She is an OT who also has RA. Her page is really helpful.

i love this one bec it is large enough to go under my knees/calfs/ankles and still fold over on top so i get heat on both sides. i keep it in the dining room bench seat so when i get up in the morning, a rough time for me, i can use it when i’m eating. has really helped.
i also use an electric blanket year round. thankfully we have a/c so in the summer i still use it. if you don’t have ra this probably sounds crazy, but heat is one of the things that always works so i can get to sleep.

My situation is similar to yours. I'm 25, got my first diagnosis 2 years ago and my hands can bother the hell out of me. If I'm being 100% honest I can't play video games without using marijuana. My hands do not handle being on the computer for extended periods well. Even if I'm just googling things. I do use compression gloves, I got some of these from Amazon:

And I also use medical marijuana. To play video games I normally take about 20mgs either in a tincture or edible and I'll vape dry herb a little before it sets in to hold me over.
I totally understand many people can't use marijuana but that's the only way I can game. That and the gloves.
I use these!

I am still wearing my mask too (sulfasalazine and methotrexate) and I’m not sure when I’ll be ready to stop.
I received Draeger brand N95 masks from my local pharmacy and went on to buy more from Amazon. They are great because they have a fit very similar to the KN95 rather than the paint type N95s that you can get at a hardware store. Tried two other brands before this including a 3M that was recommended in the RA sub and they were super uncomfortable.

hmm. maybe something like this? ive honestly never tried anything for something that big. either that or maybe just get like a nice container with a lid that snaps on/off easily that you can dump the powder into when you get a new jar.
for smaller jars, my favorite i've found was one i got for free from some booth at a little festival. it looks like theyre only sold in bulk by websites for marketing purposes. i went through a bunch of websites bc i know some let you request samples, and the only one i found where you dont have to enter any company information (as if you were requesting for a company) is here where you can get a "sample" one for 89 cents. worth a shot for that price!

It's not electronic, but since you are pressing from above, you can use your body weight.
It can and does. However I suspect it is likely you have Ankylosing Spondylitis. I was diagnosed with A.S. in 1972 and R.A. in 1975. Adding Neuropathy to the list in 2012. The A.S. has caused far more permanent damage and pain than the others. Since 1972 I've lost 5" in height. The neuropathy came courtesy of Lyme's Disease. Where the discs in my spine and neck have ossified and developed bone spurs they put pressure on nerves and my carotid artery. I get a lot of muscle and vasospasms. I can't take NSAIDs and pain meds do not have any effect on me and never have. It's a weird body chemistry thing. I think in past generations somebody pissed in the family gene pool.
Web MD and similar medical apps will not provide you with the help you need. You need a live exam by a rheumatologist and likely an MRI scan.

Just good technique overall. I watch lots of you tube videos geared towards older individuals to make sure I am not doing something too advanced or risky. I prefer weights that require two hands since I tend to drop items. Recently I splurged and bought myself some padded weight bars.
J-popper tool for opening pop-top cans. I love this thing. I have to open multiple cans of cat food per day and it saves my hands/wrists/fingers.
These jar openers. I actually expected them to be junk but was pleasantly surprised. They work better for me than the other types I've tried, which are many.
A good memory foam pillow is worth the expense. Sleeping on a bad pillow makes my whole body hurt.

The latter I like a lot as you can wear them while typing.
But I also suggest you look I to voice-to-text/ dictation! It has really come a long way (though you still do need to revise) and comes native on most Office 365 products and windows 10 (not sure about apple). I use it a lot, though I do need to type, it just takes off some of the burden.
They're vegicaps! These ones. Pretty sure they're newish. I've been vegan for something like 20 years now and I don't remember seeing them until pretty recently. My diagnosis was also about 4 years ago now. I have been doing the medication roulette ever since. I think I'm on med number 6 now? Thankfully, the current one seems to be making a difference, but I am not sure that I will ever feel "normal" again.
I think I have experienced the throbbing pain you're talking about. I also get frequent bouts of tendonitis, usually in my wrists or elbows, sometimes in my knees or ankles. Most of the time my hands and feet just hurt, or feel swollen, or stiff.
Yeah definitely experienced it especially as I have huge knockers! 🤦♀️
I generally wear crops tops now unless I really need to be better lifted for a smarter outfit.
I've got some vests with hidden support that are quite good, also a few things like these:
Lemef 3-Pack Seamless Sports Bra Wirefree Yoga Bra with Removable Pads for Women https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075L5MPT8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_NBJW4WW8YQX0HRC8Q3XK
I'm on remission but my right hand is sometimes a bit stiff ..... I do not take any medicine for that, but simply use a relaxing ball
I just use a spray cleaner like clorox scrubbing bubbles and a stick scrubber. The stick scrubber lets me use both hands and I dont have to get on my knees or lean over too far.
This is the one I use. It's pricey but for me so worth it! I even take it with me on vacation to lug stuff up to the hotel or to the mall and other shopping market type places.
These are not as convenient as gloves, but I have the same problem with small hands and I've find they help me with some extra compression on the joints that hurt the worst.
Sure, my doctor specified I should take methyl B12 and it took a bit of research but I landed on this one that I like: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013OQGO6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I found that regular swallowable B12 pills are HUGE, which I hate. These are chewable and have an inoffensive berry-like flavor.
I was searching for jar openers as well and came across this thing that sounds similar to the one you had : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000X6K9J8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_SE0NYHAPZ8Y1C10GGJJ0
Personally for me I've been able to open most jars with these grips but that could be because I'm currently on prednisone and feeling superhuman. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F67TLFC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_D5CFRVA0B95XSBWXK32G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I bought this for the jar opener, but the little tool that comes with it has actually been much more useful for opening pop top cans. I have two cats, so I use it at least twice a day for cans of cat food.

It's a little thing, but you could get a pepper grinder that only needs one touch. A little bit of normalcy.
Just a couple quick notes in case you were still thinking along these lines for yourself:
I think I linked the "0" sized enteric capsules, but "00" size is much bigger. (You'd still probably need 2 or 3 capsules per 500mg tablet though.) Most people sound happy, but some complain they are still dissolving in their stomach.
The alternative, shellac, would be this stuff (only brand I could find on Amazon.) I believe shellac ("confectioners glaze") is the same exact ingredient used in professional enteric-coated pills.
I'm not actually sure which would be cheaper or quicker. Probably the capsules on both counts, but I think the glaze would probably be more reliable to resist dissolving.
(You could also buy your own shellac flakes and dissolve them in Everclear, I suppose.)
Or maybe you're just gonna tough it out but my stomach seems too sensitive even with dairy and lots of liquids.
I have this one in extra thick. It's not super grippy but it doesn't slide around in the woods floors when I'm bouncing on it or doing yoga. And it stays in place pretty well when my kid throws himself on it during a sudden loss of gravity. It does tear pretty easily, so be careful of cat claws and dinosaur battles.
Love this thread! Off the top of my head I really like these little massage balls. They're cheap and I keep them in my work bag to roll between my back and the chair when I have to sit all day. They're more for achy muscles than joint pain but they're cheap and you can use them to target annoying knots.

Amazon has a champagne bottle opener. I just ordered it but in reviews it says people with arthritis find it to be helpful to use. Champagne Bottle Opener - Sparkling Wine Cork Remover – Easy Ergonomic Twist Design - Solid and Durable Stainless Steel Construction – by DeVine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016J1A0DK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_pH.4FbYV0FBVB
Sending prayers, love, and hope. I was just there, in pain every day for months and crying. I told my husband nobody can live like this. He felt so bad. What helped me before I got the right medication was Epsom salt baths and do it with a jacuzzi if you have one. Blast the jets right on the joints or painful areas. I also got a massager (sport type) and a TENS unit through Amazon. This is the one I got, but there are many out there: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0767SQ64S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The baths saved me so many times so try it and see. Epsom salt is inexpensive and easy to find. Most grocery stores have them and any drug store, Walmart, Target, etc.
I was put on hydroxychloroquine and my SED rate went down from 60 to 45! I'm feeling much, much better. So finding the right medication CAN AND WILL help you. If your doctor is not willing to work with you, I agree with the others here, go and find one that will. How dare they let someone stay stuck in this pain day after day. You don't have to be that way.
My heart goes out to you! (((HUGS)))
Sounds like a neuroma in your foot from the inflammation.
Ensure you are wearing good shoes with a cushion-y insole like a Spenco (cheapest one is fine).
Over the counter Voltaren is good for a topical
NSAIDS like advil if you can tolerate.
For cramps:

Can't live without my heating packs and compression gloves :
My favorite brand of glove has been Imak, but Vive looks similar to the last ones I bought. :)
I use this one here I like it because I can add it to literally anything I drink since it's flavorless.
Totally, that for me comes from the internal dryness. What helps me circumvent is sucking xylitol lozenges - they promote salivation and help so much for my headaches and dehydration. I use these with added zinc cuz people be sneezing 🤧 https://www.amazon.com/SmartMouth-Smart-Zinc-Moisturizes-Freshens-Breath/dp/B076FFWN99
It can come in a cream but no I'm taking it in a capsule form. Seems like a waste of time tbh, oh well, i'll try it for a couple of months and see how I do. I'm on very low dose accutane and the doc was worried about mixing methotrexate with the accutane as am I. I'm on 30mg/week, which is about 7% of a typical dose for 22 year long chronic folliculitis, only thing that works besides ketosis. I've done extensive diets for skin issues, I may go back onto a carnivore diet again, as it does help with inflammation only problem I have with it is dehydration issues. Too many health conditions to manage...sucks.
This One
I’m in Canada so I got it at a pharmacy store, but here’s the amazon link:
It feels like Tylenol being poured all over your back, after the intense heat goes away. Don’t touch your private parts after using this unless you’ve washed your hands first!!
One of the things my rheumatologist (on my first visit) asked me about. It is the temporomandibular joint so RA can attack it. The same thing with laryngitis. So yea I had both. like just out of the blue. Try not to eat anything extra chewwy. Give your jaw a break. I did use sub-zero. It's like bio-freeze but it has cat claw in it Sub-Zero at Amazon. Cat claw is supposedly good for RA.
I get mine from Amazon. I do cut the fingers off and sew the part across the top. The finger part really hurts. my favorite plus you get 2 pairs for better price
Its not a wet brush though ,it's better than a wet brush! I recommend you smother your hair in deep conditioner and brush. Try a mask once a week as well. Taking collagen and biotin too! Believe me I went thru same and these help.

Sorry I misspelled its DMSO. https://www.amazon.com/DMSO-Gel-Aloe-Vera-Ounce/dp/B00016QZ0C
I read about it from a guy who suffered tennis elbows on both hands. Quick research showed that it also works for joints.
It is very tricky substance so do research, if you wish. I burned my skin a bit BUT it makes you feel like you don't have RA for about 30 min..joints relax, pain goes away, etc. I was told to put before bedtime and let it all night. It itches and smells bad..but you are RA free for a bit.
I just got ones that had good review on amazon. Here’s the link:
IMAK Compression Arthritis... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000N4G8IQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Maybe the size of the ones you got wasn’t right? This one has a way you can measure your hands and chose the right size. Because I’m sure the wrong size would not be helpful at all. Hope this helps!
I am sorry to hear this as well. Everyone seems to have good advice. I would add that you might find icing the spots alternating with heat might also work. I had started waking up with my hip so sore I could barely walk and for many reasons, I do not want a hip replacement so I had to figure something out. I do product reviews for Amazon. I can pick from a list and they send me the product to try out. I had a chance to get a twin size mattress topper. A bit pricey, but if you can afford it, well worth the cost. You can see the one I got here: https://www.amazon.com/Tempur-Pedic-TEMPUR-ProForm-Supreme-Mattress/dp/B00HEODPU2/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&aaxitk=iApUQbq5pnQY3uo-TRQ5lw&hsa_cr_id=8509191270601&ref_=sb_s_sparkle&th=1 Nothing for me in this recommendation, I just wanted you to understand what I was talking about :)
I could not believe how I felt the first morning after having it on my bed! No hip pain and none since. I no longer start my day thinking I need a hip replacement. It cushions your whole body and so some of the other parts that get sore during the night especially like your shoulders if you are a side sleeper will feel a lot better. As we have a king-size bed, and my twin topper slowly starts sliding off the bed and so my husband readjusts it for me. Also if you have any kind of neck involvement, make sure you have a decent pillow. I have one that has 4 different edges so that I can position the edge under my neck that is most beneficial to cutting out neck pain. I wish you well I think many times we forget the many products that are out there for us to try to give us relief, we should all look at them.
I used to use a cheapo folding hairdryer from Walgreens (800W). A few years ago I leveled up to a more powerful hairdryer that is basically the same size and is also foldable. I love it. Conair 1200W compact hairdryer.
I'd just compare the wattage and weight of her current dryer to the ones you are looking at getting for her to be sure you're getting something more powerful while keeping the weight low.
There are electric heating pads designed specifically for shoulders. This one is a bit pricey but it's a trusted brand, I got it earlier this year for my sister and she loves it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GC1YAC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's the worst, isn't it? I'm sorry you're dealing with this. During a flare last year, I had to manage an event for 90 people & was having so much trouble getting dressed in the morning & being ready for a 7am start time, I had to get up at 5:30 (we were all staying in the same hotel, so I didn't even have to commute). I would have to set the alarm for 5, take a Celebrex to reduce some of the inflammation & pain, hit snooze & then start massaging my hands under warm water as soon as I got up. I also had to sleep in my bra, b/c getting that on was no joke.
It looks like the commenters have given good suggestions for making your room warmer- I used to use those plastic sheeting kits that have doublestick tape & use a hair dryer to set up. (like this https://www.amazon.com/Frost-King-V73H-42-Inch-62-Inch/dp/B000BQKCQ0/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1546957539&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=window+insulation+kit&psc=1)
I am also on Orencia. Had to keep on the prednisone for awhile, then tapered once the Orencia weekly injections started to work - roughly nine weeks or so. I hope it starts working for you soon!
Oh, look for Arthritis compression gloves for your hands. They help a ton. Since you work on computers I recommend something like these: CopperJoint – Copper-Infused... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D111IBO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
That's a GREAT idea. I'm hitting up the Dollar Tree today.
Do you wear a brace? I have the most pain in my hands and wrists. My rheum suggested this & it's really helped. Also, these . The brace is sometimes impractical during the day, I mainly sleep in it on my right hand & in the glove on my left (cant' figure out why that's the best combo for me, but it works)
I have tried a ton (all price ranges) and so far Vive ones have been best. They are not too tight and don’t cut off circulation in wrist/fingers. https://smile.amazon.com/Arthritis-Gloves-Vive-Compression-Osteoarthritis/dp/B00VTR6MNW
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H2OCWC0/ref=twister_B079NLMTS6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have this mattress topper and a super firm mattress. Personally, I feel better whenever the mattress doesn't sink much around me and has some support. That mattress topper is only 3 inches and provides the perfect amount of foam support without you feeling like you're sleeping on a cloud.
I was diagnosed with RA in June (along with carpal tunnel) and had a lot of hand problems - perfect for a medical transcription typist in a hospital! What helped me was these gloves https://www.amazon.com/Arthritis-Gloves-Vive-Compression-Osteoarthritis/dp/B00VTR6MNW/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1514277068&sr=8-1&keywords=Ra%2Bgloves&th=1, and wrist braces like these https://www.amazon.com/Arthritis-Gloves-Vive-Compression-Osteoarthritis/dp/B00VTR6MNW/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1514277068&sr=8-1&keywords=Ra%2Bgloves&th=1. Wearing the gloves during the day when your hands really help, and wearing the braces at night stop you from bending your hands when you sleep. I’m on Methotexate 20mg weekly which I take on Saturdays, and then I take 10mg Folic Acid on Monday only. Now I’m on Arava as well the Methotrexate isn’t working. Oh, and of course Prednisone!
