I use these but I know I paid a lot less than they are going for on Amazon, that was many years ago though. I use them when I decide it's time to keep them from collecting dust from sitting on these shelves.
Lol, for sure. You could cut the wires in the middle and crimp them w/ these: https://www.amazon.com/Yootop-60pcs-26-19AWG-Connectors-Splice/dp/B07FCLTHMN/ref=sr_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=phone+line+crimps&qid=1608155276&sr=8-17
They just smash crimp. But seriously, an inexpensive weller wlc100 ($40) should do you fine for many many years.. I just finally upgraded from a weller wlc100 after nearly 30 years of use to a hakko 888d ($100.
Here's a $34 digital control unit on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Carrera-Digital-124-Control-Unit/dp/B003IT5QCM/ref=sr\_1\_2?keywords=carrera+digital&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&qid=1670421595&s=warehouse-deals&sr=8-2
You don't need thick wire, and the silicone wire is very supple won't try to move your track. I imagine that speaker wire is thick enough to lift up the track. They make this stuff in many thicknesses, but as a jumper, this thin stuff works great. Speaker wire is the duct-tape of wires, yea, but this wire is cheap, better, and you can have it tomorrow :) Cheers.
It’s the base Mario kart kit plus 2 other kits, the ninja turtles one and the mustang kit

>The big question....if you're a dad who thinks that there's a chance your son might not be as interested in slot cars as you are, don't worry. There are a lot of us here that went through that.

hehe :) So true. We have to think the kid inside us too, don't we?
So I placed an order for an evolution set! Wanted to get some extensions as well but thought its better to wait a bit and do more research. Actually buying another set is cheaper than buying separate pieces. In my case my second set could be a digital one. Not super excited, cause it was a a bit stressful decision, as I was in a hurry to catch Christmas and see how my son responds to it. The evolution set has the Pixar Cars theme, and my better half was not keen in raising the budget for extensions.
If things go well, I will extend with a digital Carrera set, or move to Policar, which I am somehow drawn to. (you see I was in a hurry to get mr. Mcqueen..).
Anyway.
I need some help regarding putting adjustable power to the Evolution track. I understand what you mean and I've read that people did use rubber band or clips for that purpose. The problem with that is that you loose a lot of the travel of the controller. If Evolution runs at 14V and I would like my son to start at 6V, this means that I would need to disable HALF of the travel of the controller. At least that's what it seems to me.
Some pictures depict the Evolution power transformer as having two plugs. What is that about? https://www.slotcar-union.com/en/power-controllers/826-carrera-evolution-26710-transformer-148v-2-x-1-amp-4007486267107.html
Does the power go separately into each lane? If this is the case, do I need to purchase two chargers? I was thinking of something like this https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B00N2PQA1S
I would like to get everything now, so when my order arrives, I can quickly switch the power.
Yes it is, I bought it online for $10 (https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/isetta-printable-body-car) and made my own chassis with Sketchup and the internals of a Carrera Go MINI and a Slot.it pickup
Have you ever seen photos like this. OPs photo was done the same way. Instead of the usual quick “click”, in this photo the shutter is kept open longer to allow more light in, common in night photography. When you do this with a dynamic light source you get a cool trace of the lights path throughout the photo. Like this.
OP did this with their slot car on the track. The dynamic light source was the slot cars lights. So in the end they captured the path of the car around the track.

I think you're right about the power. I just ordered one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RB1HDGG
I plan to solder a Tyco power connector to the end of the cable.
I think this will help me run the newer AFX cars, too.
My guess, they use something like (this)[Rubbish Tongs Litter Picker, Long Handle Aluminum Trash Pickup Aid Long Handled Grabber https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0817Z5QTT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_doT7FbA06K1PX] which would help you reach all around the track.
I bought a second hand set too for my little one, I bought a variable voltage power supply on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R4NK3D1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_1qo5Fb3JXSTEP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
So I received this Scalextric set for Christmas probably 20 years ago. I dug it out so I could have some fun with it again and remembered that one of the controllers doesn't work. Boo. I purchased a new analogue controller from a hobby store with the 3.5 mm headphone jack plug in and, unfortunately, it does not work on the track. If I insert the plug halfway in, then the car goes full speed. Otherwise, no speed if inserted all the way in. Not ideal!
The set came with 2x formula one cars. As I understand this is the older 'classic' track set design by Scalextric for their 1:32 scale cars. The power base is a round plug for the power and round jacks for the controllers as well. I understand this has changed. So I was happy when I found the analogue 3.5 mm jack controller at a hobby store, but it did not work.
I was looking into direct replacement options, but it seems that only used market now has the same remotes. Check out the link to Amazon, below. This appears to be the same controller I have (same form), and so I presume it will work. Though shipping is going to take a long time to get here and I don't want to buy something else that I'm not sure will work.
Can you guys help?! What are my options? I have looked on Scalextric's website and they only have new stuff. It seems that I can purchase a new power controller base + two controls for $60 Canadian, but would likely also require a new rectifier as well. So likely close to a $100 investment and I'm still using the old classic track and cars. Is it worth doing all that? Or, is there a less pricey option I wasn't able to uncover?
Thank you all!!
I think it's a Chinese brand called MaoXian, which is how "Motion" would be pronounced in Chinese. There is another link on Amazon for a similar set:
Looks like the bad reviews are mostly complaining about the included Euro plug instead of a US plug, but I already have a plug adapter.
I don't know, 92 feet of track is great, but boy would I be pissed if it didn't work after setting all that up.
Digital there are track pieces that allow you to change lanes on certain parts of the track with the press of a button on the controller. Pieces like this or this, and there is a digital chip that is put into the cars to 'read?' when the cars change lanes.
Non-digital has the X-type pieces you have.
