I think the Reddit community are an incredible bunch of people and they are mostly (with exception) level headed about things and willing to pay. You got a lot on board with this initial offering, but the price fluctuation will put people off.
You were offer $7 lifetimes, this then jumped up, and now $3.99 per month, that is over half of a what a lifetime was to cost. The $7 price is also quoted in the press. If as others have suggested it was a $20 per year subscription this will get you heaps of subscribers and the good will generated will mean that people like myself will be encouraging others to sign up.
I personally am quite new to using smartflix but I haven't used anything else on my laptop since. I pay for a VPN, Unlocator for my other devices, and my netflix sub if this was a $2 charge per month even maybe $2.50 then it would be a winner in my eyes even with all the other stuff I pay for.
EDIT - The limit on devices (I forgot about this) should be a concurrent model not just 3 devices. If you produce an Android version I would want it on a Fire TV stick, a Fire TV box, my laptop (same as my work one) and the wifes laptop. So in this situation I would have to plan which one each month would not be used. It should be concurrent use not devices per month.

We're aware of the synchronisation issue - we're working on implementing something to fix it. It isn't like that on all content however - a lot of the content it actually works fine on (so it's not 'one setting' which will fix it, we'll have to introduce a manual step-up/step-down setting)
A quality VPN service for free, built right into your browser? Golly gee, that almost sounds too good to be true...
Oh wait, I guess it is.
It is also just a simple proxy with a nicer name on it, probably to attract media attention and entice some new users I guess.
EDIT: Opera bought SurfEasy last year which is the service they're routing traffic through for this. SurfEasy got hit just as bad by Netflix's blockers as the others, so it'll be very hit and miss for most.
I have CyberGhost who have been actively making strides in keeping Netflix unblocked. I have also seen them respond to user requests for new server locations. Also Unlocator for the US and Canadian content but these were more for the Fire Stick/Box in the house.
Absolutely right. I had to run TunnelBear and/or Cyber Ghost and then open up SmartFlix. Without VPNs the app doesn't open up, it just stays in the task manager processes and this is something new, which never used to happen earlier. This has been happening for the past two days. And one has to keep the VPN on for the content to run. It's a pain now.
I'm from France too, and could not access the site since more than 24 hours.
I had tried this site:
http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/smartflix.io.html
and it tells that smarflix is down for everyone.
Also, I have my issues with Smartflix. They handled the price announcements very poorly... Still, it currently works, while UnoTelly, UnblockUS and many of the others do not. So yeah, it's easily worth four bucks per month.
Hi, new user here. A little preamble: I have been using Unblock-Us for a couple of years, and after seeing them buckle in what was literally a few days, and shutting down all social media channels I'm naturally a bit wary. That was despicable to witness. That said; I'm that guy who'd pay double for my Netflix subscription if all content were available across regions. They say it's their goal, but so far it's a pipedream.
Now for the positives: Smartflix is pretty great! As of march 20 the $ 4.99 CAD that UnblockUs used to get will need a new home. Anyway, given my experiences I'd probably prefer a monthly subscription at this point in time. It would also give you guys a way to give up more gracefully than UnblockUs did (by taking the money and running). And really, I'd much prefer the lifetime sub, but as you say yourself: "following the recent events, we feel we can't guarantee at least a year of service anymore", it actually means that after 14 days you could just call it quits. So to summarize: I'm more than willing to pay for your service which is great from my limited experience. OTOH as a new user this is just another service which might or might not fail in the coming weeks/months. I think maybe using both sub models (with the possibility to switch from monthly to lifetime) would be sensible, especially to attract newcomers to the service.
Hope this didn't come out as negative as it might sound, just offering a point of view from someone with no special interest invested in Smartflix (YET). All in all, seems like you guys are doing a great job.
