Please note that the market cap of SJCX is unknown: https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/storjcoin-x/ Though there are still some SJCX circulating, a lot of them have been converted to STORJ.
We are still waiting for Storj Labs labs to give us an update on both the migration from SJCX to STORJ, as well as the final results of the STORJ crowdsale. This will involve very complicated mathematical operations using a spreadsheet, so it will probably take them about 6 more months to figure out how to do this.
amazon: 100 GB for $11.99 and 1 TB for $59.99, up to 30 TB for an additional $59.99 per TB

https://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/
Storj: $0.015 per GB per month for storage and $0.05 per GB for bandwidth (downloads).
what am I missing here?
Bandwidth is costs about half as much as it does on AWS, so not sure what you are talking about.

Scroll down to "Data Transfer OUT From Amazon S3 To Internet" to see for yourself.
Storj has contacted Poloniex to hopefully get STORJ listed soon. Meanwhile, please use the converter app at https://converter.storj.io to migrate your SJCX to STORJ. You can then trade them at one of the exchanges that has already listed STORJ as shown here https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/storj/#markets, or hold your new STORJ tokens in your own ERC20 compatible wallet if you would like to wait until STORJ trading is enabled on Poloniex.
Your payment is quoted in USD. The equivalent value of Storj is then paid to the storage node. So if you are owed $10 USD in April and the current value of Storj is $1.70, you get paid 5.8823 storj tokens. If you are owed $10 in May and the value of Storj is $3.00, you get paid 3.3333 storj tokens.
The biggest competitor, IMHO, are cloud storage providers. You are competing against them on price and they have economies of scale working for them. And failsafes and redundancies.
STORJ may have a market with privacy conscious consumers, but I could just as easily encrypt my uploads to Amazon / Google / etc.
On the other end of the spectrum are apps like Resilio Sync, which sync files across your devices (Mobile & Desktop). Storage being cheap, this is an (cheap & private) alternative for most.
Really curious where STORJ is going :)
Amazon S3 is the same as Storj. They each distribute files to multiple locations and use a single bridge/server to communicate. It's the centralized decentralized cloud storage.
> Amazon S3 runs on the world’s largest global cloud infrastructure, and was built from the ground up to deliver a customer promise of 99.999999999% of durability. Data is automatically distributed across a minimum of three physical facilities that are geographically separated within an AWS Region, and Amazon S3 can also automatically replicate data to any other AWS Region.
Note: While this might look like it has the right intentions the OP is spamming this to all alt-coins as the registration is using his/her referral, the OP stands to make 50% commission out of all your trading fees if you use the referral. If you're uncomfortable with the intentions of the OP but want to sign up then you can use this link here https://www.binance.com/register.html where no one receives commission.
StorjStat shows your node as offline if the LastSeen is older than 30min (I think). But it is not guaranteed that your LastSeen updates that often. -> So don't trust the offline indicator of StorjStat. If you look for a simple way to get notified when your node is offline have a look at Storj-HostStats (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steinbacher.storj_hoststats_app) it pings your node to check if its offline or not.
That seem mostly true at the moment, although Sia has video streaming in its roadmap for 6 months' time https://trello.com/b/Io1dDyuI/sia-public-roadmap
I like the Storj GUI, but my brief trial in setting up a server didn't see much use of the shared hard disk space.
Tether is a stablecoin that is supposed to always be worth around $1 US. It's a useful alternative for quickly moving your coins to and from USD.
Check out:
I followed the official docs all fine https://www.storj.io/host-a-node. I just made a mistake in misunderstanding that the 'docker volume prune' command would not delete my docker volumes attached to the running containers.
The process / documentation is good to follow, it was an easy setup. My problem came days later when I was trying to clear up my Docker and ran the command which deleted the data I was storing. Once you lose your node you need a new identity, which can mean needing a new email address.
You don't need to control or change anything once running so it's a set and forget sort of task. (Unless you want to change the disk size used for backup)
Not Storj team, just an interested lurker.
Cloud data storage just isn't really worth all that much (esp just 100GB - check some prices with other cloud storage providers eg https://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/). And it's not that hard or expensive to farm, so the payout is 'low'.
For people that are already running a NAS or Media Centre or Web server etc with 100% uptime and some free space then the additional cost of also making some of that space available by just running storjshare is very very low. So the 1.5 per month per 100GB (for example - that's actually over optimistic) is much better than nothing.
I found your link and my link were both not working this morning. It seems to be a link referral issue. Apparently if you copy/paste the link it works and then caches and always works, but clicking on the link from reddit doesn't work.
I think they want you to only share this link:
I would try to email the company (https://www.storj.io/contact) and open a dialogue with them. StorJ's default billing has both raw storage fees and transfer fees, they do provide better access/bandwidth than storage only services; but you will want to review their default pricing, and if you are large enough you may be able to negotiate a different billing model/price rate. They are also currently handing out free trials, which I would recommend so that you can start to predict what your usage patterns might be like.

This is a great protocol and will be a long term hold for me. The more you dig in, the more you start to see the long term potential of this project. I just think they need more publicity. With big data breaches and cyber attacks everywhere these days, more people will start to turn to decentralized storage. I've been buying the dips and have accumulated 1,050 coins at this point. Will add more if it dips. I own some Filecoin too and saw it go 10x on me out of nowhere. I sold some as it climbed upwards of $200 and used the proceeds to buy more STORJ.
Here is a link to their whitepaper. Its long but worth the read.
Node operators are paid in STORJ. Users can purchase storage space with STORJ.

I'm not sure.
I used a FUSE implementation of Microsoft Onedrive for Linux (not an official Microsoft project; it was created created by a Linux developer), and it was nice, but it was far too slow synchronizing to be useful. That led me to Dropbox (too expensive: $19.99/month, and I always feared a future hack since they've been hacked once before), and Dropbox has no granularity: they charged me for 2 TB (they just raised it to 3 TB right before I quit) of storage even though I had far less than 2 TB in files: there is no 100 GB or 500 GB option on Dropbox. I finally stumbled upon Storj, and now I'm hooked.

My final solution:
So far, it's been working great. Deja allows incremental backups: I set it up to do an incremental backup weekly. I run my "backup to storj" script weekly as well. I may eventually even automate that part by creating a cron job to run the script weekly automatically.

Thank you for the comment! Please enjoy the script, and please let me know how it works out for you. If you improve it, please feel free to share the improved version here.
In this blog post, I will show you how to create a very simple cross-platform Uno-App that uses the uplink.NET-Package to connect to the Storj network. It will work on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), WinUI, Android, iOS, and macOS. For Windows applications, we will use UWP/WinUI and the Uno Platform will take that same codebase to Android, iOS and macOS. To build all targets you would need a Windows-PC and a Mac with Visual Studio installed.
You could implement something like this with Nextcloud: https://nextcloud.com/sharing/ and use pretty much whatever you wanted as a storage backend, Nextcloud supports lots of types of storage providers (not sure about Storj yet though).
I made payment of 0.66579800 BitcoinSV to Coinsbee for an amazon gift card:
The BSV address Coinsbee gave me to pay into: 19gtzMCPh4VhRiCkJNWG8aDKtBX3VAtBaJ
Tranasction Hash (txid): 9863a98469ff5c245aa17750caf1310dd8a7132e2bca88f36bda0a756a9ea5b0
However I never received any confirmation email nor any Amazon GC after making the BSV payment.
What is most concerning is that Coinsbee has since moved the 0.66579800 BSV out of that address we paid into, it not like they are unaware.
I emailed Coinsbee customer support and got a very badly written reply that my invoice ticket expired before I made the payment (which is totally untrue as there was almost 17 minutes left on the clock when I hit send) so they gave me the link to Coingate to fill out the refund form, but I never received the order number and transaction number from an order that I never received a confirmation email for!
..I still have not received any refund nor the Amazon Gift Card
I just learned that in the last quarter, Storj Lab paid out 1.3 million Storj to node operators, third party providers and their employees. However, all of these tokens came from the operating supply (In addition they still hold 229 million Storj pre mine). 0 Storj was purchased from the open market.

you can trade SJCX directly on the counterparty DEX, or on one of the exchanges where it is already listed, like

1.) I hope you're joking about inflation question?! 90% of premined coins (450 mil) are not in the market yet and since they are not on the market their distribution to market would create an inflation. To be honest it's worrying that you as an Storj owner are not aware of this fact. I suggest you to hire someone for economics because you are into high profile business now, you should know about inflation. Its actually easy math and you're a coder?! https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/storjcoin-x/ Current situation: 19,298,058 $ in strojx coins 51,173,144 coins on the market 19,298,058 ÷ 51,173,144= 0.377$ per each token
2.) I've said 3 million for the 6 months just to avoid huge inflation and to protect current holders and investors. You can create another cappet crowdsale in 6 months when you might need more funds.
Now my questions: 1.) Why is 3 million dollar for 6 months not good enough for you guys? How much is enough and for what?
2.) Please ask someone who understand economics and confirm me that you are now aware of inflation.
The domain urown.cloud is mine and I made it available for free to use with the dynamic DNS service from nsupdate.info.
nsupdate.info is a dynamic DNS service which is simple, usable, free, friendly, secure and respects your privacy.
Hi! There are few rivals. For example Sia or Internxt Drive. I used to use Storj but... finally I gave up because I didn't understand how it really works and was expensive for me. I had your same doubt in January and I found Internxt Drive. It's super-easy to use, cheap and there are some reviews on Medium that could help you.
So I've been playing with some of the tools: cyberduck.io let me upload through Storj's S3 gateway, and mountainduck.io is letting me view the files (but not upload them from Windows Explorer). Uploads would be nice... so I'll try another tool.
Hey Storjlings! Next week we will hold our quarterly town hall for Q1 of this year. Make sure to register for the event to reserve your spot! We are eager to share a synopsis of what we have accomplished this year and an overview of our 2019 plans. Our team has been burning the midnight oil to finish the last bit of functionality needed for the Vanguard release. If you want early access to start storing your data on the network, make sure to sign up on the waitlist.
Storj won't be able to directly compete with Amazon/Google/Dropbox for end user data storage. This is a fallacy and the growth will come from enterprise customers who have their own development team that can integrate with Storj.
i.e. https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive - Unlimited Personal Storage at a price that is unmatched.
they wrote a very good post on the blog, check this out:

oh? I thought they joined forces with microsoft in 2016..

I bought a few external drives from Amazon. How would I know what type of drives they are? And how can I run 3 of them together with a raspberry pi? I can’t seem to find any online with more than 2 hard drives connected together. I’m possibly thinking of putting 5 hard drives together.
Thanks for the help
Your school can not see the data going through VPN because it is encrypted, this means they also do not know about the forwarded ports. They probably can see the amount of data you are using but nothing else.
There are also different VPN providers, it doesn't need to be PIA VPN specifically. I am using Mullvad VPN which I trust more and they allow usage of multiple forwarded ports (not sure about PIA).
How's that work? Because NordVPN will change your IP address. When I checked my ports before turning Nord on, they were open. Afterwards, they closed.
If the ports aren't open the Storj node will try another way, but that isnt optimal. Also using a VPN will increase latency.
Wondering if you had to make some changes with your network configuration?
If your VPN requires manual changing you'll just have to manually change which server you connect to... The one I use NordVPN automatically switches servers every time you log in using their VPN application.
