there was this guy on a hunger strike, a former ph.d student at osgoode. If you read his thesis i think he might have a screw loose.
When you log in to AirYorkPlus or use Ethernet on res, they know it's you on the network, they know your IP. So when they get a letter from an ISP, they see that you were the one who pirated it and striked you.
It's York's business because they have to give you the letter by law I believe.
Next time use a VPN such as Private Internet Access. I also use a proxy on my client torrent application, double protection. No letters for a while.
If you sign up to the myeconlab (for quizzes and shit) then you can get notes there. You are basically forced to sign up there anyway in order to do 2 quizzes. In any event, here is a study package. It's got 1000 and some midterms. I got the package for 1010 as well if you want, just hmu. http://www.filedropper.com/econ1000studypackagenotesfrom1-15finalexam2005test2
i find it interesting 3903 keeps electing people who appear to be shit at their jobs to these positions...

Haven't written an essay for 5 years and I have a 25% Short Stories Character Analysis Essay due Sunday 11:59 pm ... started taking jot notes of the story on Wednesday.
I hate writing so I'm def struggling to push myself. I take long 25 min breaks (long I know) and that helps me feel refreshed and ready to work afterward. Ofc a bad idea if you have a lot to do but I know I can maintain some sanity and get my work done if I do this.
I go on a website with sliders for office sounds ( clock, printer, people typing) and that always recreates the library vibe and really helps in ruts.

My favorite quote from skimming it -
"I am not also sure that my thesis has made any significant contribution to so-called scholasticism, including a band of condescending people whose expertise really consists in either destroying or complicating existence throughout their legalistic “Kama Sutra”, that is to say the various positions in which the Governors can legitimately … all existence together. All their teaching and preaching, mostly mingled with or strengthened by the Governors, have created a satanic and chaotic world for nature and humanity as well: State extremity. Satan is not hence an imaginary evil, because the Governors and their theoreticians are officially incarnating Him.È

City Councillor Says Don't Pay
That being said these sources ae old and there's been some talk of York partnering with the City of Toronto to issue tickets. If it's not in your name, they can still pin it on you if the registered address is the same as where you live. But it varies case-by-case.
I'd google your question and check results from redflagdeals. Bunch of cheap bastards but they've helped me out a few times :)
I've never had him as a professor, but I have had one tenured prof who was exactly how you describe. In the history program our version of this is prof. Rubenstein. She is one of the worst profs I think I have ever had hands down. She has utter contempt for undergrads and openly admitted "since im tenured I could actually assault any undergrads and the university wont care" ..... She didn't seemed inclined to care about any student unless they were one of her masters students. http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=87709 Awful. That being said, I have had some great tenured profs in the history department, especially the Cohen's ! unfortuantely, the bad apples are always the ones that stand out
This is a great post, and I'm always a fan of folks who offer help to others. I have to take issue with point 3, however, given research demonstrating that taking handwritten notes improves retention. Taking notes helps to maintain your focus on the lecture, and are helpful after the fact. Folks who handwrite notes do better on tests than folks who type them. I can only assume that folks who don't take any notes at all will be disadvantaged compared to note takers of either type.
History TA here, so I won't try to answer all your questions, since that might come across a bit r/FellowKids. To answer the third question, other people have highlighted time managements skills--I'd add two things. First, things to start thinking about: the kinds of assignments you might be asked to write; how to structure a persuasive essay; what does and does not constitute a "thesis statement"; the difference between argument/analysis and narrative/exposition. I see lots of students come into the department woefully under-prepared by their secondary schools (like, not knowing what paragraphs or quotation marks are), and their first year can be a real shock. If you can, try to get your hands on "A Pocket Guide to Writing in History" by Mary Lynn Rampolla and "The Elements of Style" by White and Strunk--those books saw me through my whole undergrad. Second, if anything comes up that is keeping you from your work--a death in the family, mental or physical illness, working a side job, etc.--get into the TA or course director's office hours ASAP and talk to them about it. For the most part we're very understanding, and can often work out some kind of accommodation. There's not much we can do when a student misses 90% of tutorials and barely hands in any work and then comes at the end of the year and says "uh, yeah, this year was pretty tough, can I get my grade up?" Just by asking these questions you're showing more initiative than a lot of students, so I'm glad to have you in the department!
I'm afraid if you're going to go to a predominately English-speaking university, you're going to have to write in English. There isn't a lot of ways around this.
If you go into something that's mostly quantitative, you're going to have to communicate in writing to profs from time to time. A lot of things will hinge on your ability to write clearly that, while they aren't for grades, are important. If you're applying to jobs in Ontario, for most jobs (not all) you're writing a cover letter and resume in English. That's your first point of contact and people will judge you based on how you present yourself in writing.
This isn't a value judgment on what language is best or me pushing English because of some bullshit racial/cultural superiority thing. You don't have to be Henry James or learn advanced vocabulary (though both help). I would recommend reading a book on clear communication, On Writing Well is a good place to start. Or just reading generally—read lots and read in English, you'll pick up on conventions if you pay attention.
You can get free pdfs of textbooks. Unless you prefer a physical copy?
Anyway, I needed the textbook last year and I got the pdf of it, for free, from libgen: (https://libgen.is/book/index.php?md5=5B679BAD3A50D58C0B638B477236E59C)Not sure if anything changed from last year or not, though. So you'll still have to check if this is the one required. Do you know anyone who is taking the course and has already bought the textbook? So that you can compare?
Also, the prof will put more info regarding the textbook on eClass when school starts (you'll be able to see the picture/cover of the textbook, date published, etc).
As for physical copies, look on Kijiji or join a Facebook group (I've never joined one so I cannot give you the name/link of one).
ECON 1000/1010 are the top two well-known bird courses in York. Honestly reading textbook and doing the myeconlab practice questions are more than enough to get a good grade. But if you prefer lecture over self-study, Professor Ardesh Noordeh has a 3.1/5 rating (average). Here's the link to his ratemyprofessor page.
Actually, the ticket quite clearly says "high school" right under "student" right on the front. It's two of only fourteen words if you count "1SYSTEM", "YRT", and "VIVA" as words.
This picture quality is crap but it's still quite clearly legible: https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmXoypizjW3WknFiJnKLwHCnL72vedxjQkDDP1mXWo6uco/I/m/Used-viva-ticket.jpg
The TTC one though is a bit more arguable, that one doesn't actually say it on the ticket (last I checked), you have to check it on the TTC website. Of course they can still legally ticket you though.

The best resource for prof checking is www.ratemyprofessor.com.
Seriously, it has all the info you'd be looking for from YorkU Redditors.
I suggest you get this one, then your wist does do nothing, you move the cursor by your thumb,
you can always take out the hard drive from your old laptop and put in new laptop for time being, or if you have new laptop already, use this

and you can copy your old files into your new laptop.
many options, but most of them cost money
Hi :)
> I haven't been able to sleep at night due to the anxiety surrounding this and starting 1st year off on the wrong foot
If you're seriously that worried, that might be very unpleasant.
As a psychology major, I would suggest that you might be able to get a lot of benefit from this self-help book. The Toronto public library owns lots of copies.
If you manage to somehow lessen your worries, you can sleep better.
You can also get free drop-in counselling from WoodGreen (in Toronto), from the What's Up walk-in clinic network (in Toronto). You could try the York counselling office, too, but I suspect that they can't see you until your studies actually begin.
Daytime exercise can also be helpful for nighttime insomnia.
If we think of any other anxiety-related suggestions, I wonder if you would want those too.
There's this app that shows you nearby restaurants that have left over food at the end of the day. This way you don't have to cook if you don't have time/energy and the food doesn't go to waste. The app is called Too Good to Go, the food ranging from $3-$8 depending on the restaurant. Once you find something you like just reserve a "surprise box" and go pick it up. Thankfully the app shows you the closest restaurants that are using the app.
Here's the link to the app
Instead of paying for 1k courses to teach you all of the technologies you want to learn, for 200$ annually on http://www.codecademy.com you can learn (from scratch) HTML, CSS, Python, JavaScript, and SQL. This is university and the programming courses teach a lot of theoretical information and not necessarily applicable to your needs.
I recommend learning the basics of online resources (codecademy or Udemy) and testing it out yourself.
What I did during my undergrad is get the international edition of the text book if it is available. Check out AbeBooks and search for what you need. Usually you can get a text for ~$15-25 which will save you a couple hundred a term. Even if there are no international editions available, usually there are still great deals so I'd check it out anyways.
Might still switch. I heard she does not know what she is doing. I found this: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=2108683. And her facebook blog is psychotic, she seems unstable.
Is there anything specific about that class that made it bad, because im taking it this semester based on her ratemyprof score and it sounds like its an easy course
I had him for CHEM 1000 Fall 2017. Hes a good prof. Always willing to answer questions, and the tests are pretty straightforward. I wasn't really crazy about his lectures, but to be fair I'm not exactly in love with the subject matter in the first place, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. He was good at teaching and explaining things, I just found the lectures pretty dry. The way he had our class set up was that he had 3 midterms, but only your top 2 midterms counted which is a really useful thing for new students still adjusting to university. I don't think all of the CHEM 1000 classes had this setup, but don't know for sure. The one thing that he did that really pissed me off though was that he would post the slides on the Moodle, but he would remove important words or definitions. Sometimes he would skip through the slides really quickly, and I didnt always have time to copy everything, so this could be a real pain in the ass when you're trying to follow the lecture. It was pretty easy to find the definitions and stuff in the textbook though. Overall he was a pretty good prof. (also I don't know if you know about this already or not, but there is a website http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ that has ratings and reviews for all of the profs at York)
Ahhh, shots on, not shotgun. Gotcha! Does that mean punches or actual shots I wonder.
Edit: from these song lyrics I gather it's the latter:
But I can't seem to fade me
I've got my pistol pawn cocked
Ready to lay shots nonstop until I see your monkey-ass drop
And let your homies know who done it
Cause when it comes to this gangsta shit you motherfuckers know who run it
oh wait that box does look familiar. I think I remember seeing that from when i lived in Cali. While I dont' mind playing games for two hours I'm not sure I'd be up for a two hour game today. It does look hilarious and it sounds like they remade it
It can, but there's also something to note about the free version:
>Note: Before purchase, the quality of audio passing through Loopback's virtual devices will be degraded after 20 minutes.
I actually had the 2nd edition when I took the class. I found it just as useful. If you still want it, you can download it from this link
If you download the Anaconda python package, you get numpy/scipy and matplotlib, which gives you all the functionality of MATLAB. Plus you get the spyder graphical programming environment. All for free.
We are looking for anyone with a ABI but there is a screening questionnaire on the booking website (calendly.com/VRforABI) and we will be in touch with our emails provided regarding eligibility.
The content is similar, I would say MATH1510 is a little more intense in terms of difficulty of the questions, but it’s more or less the same concepts. You can look at the textbook being used this summer for that course. You’re able to scroll around the first pages of the textbook to get an idea of what the course content looks like.

It's an app I found called “York University GPA Calculator” on Google playstore that is really helpful in converting my GPA from a 9.0 scale to a 4.0 painlessly. I don’t know if it’s legit though, but I think it’s pretty accurate imo.
True, we might need the 4.0 scale for grad/professional schools but the university you’re applying to does all the converting, we don’t really need to. I don’t think there will be a disadvantage in how they will convert it either.
And if you need to convert it to a 4.0, there are plenty of websites that can do the converting and help you to get an idea* of how you’re doing. I also found this app called “York University GPA Calculator” on Google playstore that is really helpful in converting my GPA from a 9.0 scale to a 4.0. I don’t know if it’s legit though, but I think it’s pretty accurate imo.

The basics are usually always covered, just no in the same depth. The course is more about building a mathematical frame work that works for E&M. Maxwells equations should be introduced and a bit of derivations. Conceptually its a tough course, but is been a few years since ive taken it. If you want to practice look up the Griffiths book on electricity and magnetism.

With the plummeting prices of SSDs, there's absolutely no reason why one shouldn't have it for a laptop.
A half-decent 1TB SSD can be had for $129.99 all-in (no tax).
Prices are going to keep dropping, and I'd expect it to go under the $100 mark before school starts in September.
A refurbished Thinkpad with an SSD would be a great budget option.
Look into FrootVPN m8, helps a ton with all the stupid Bill-C51 and freedoms Harpers giving to the states while they bend him over the desk in Ottawa. Anyways FrootVPN is a free VPN, works alright to download stuff, ofcourse it isnt light speed but hey its not too shabby either.
> ... thats [sic] not a valid reason.
That's the best reason ever.
Check out "When I Say No, I Feel Guilty." Book ~~changed~~ is changing my life...
You don't owe anyone an explanation for why you want to do something or want to STOP doing something.
Of course, if your parents are gonna go all aloha snackbar on your ass because that's what they think is right and you're falling away from the religion... you bow your head and do as they say, and think inside "this too shall pass."
Reading from your phone really isn't feasible, and I disagree on spending several hundred on an iPad, but if you're interested in reading on the go, Kindle Paperwhite is having a $40 off special for student accounts when you go to check out: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00QJDU3KY?keywords=kindle&qid=1442526900&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
As far as how you got the e-book nobody at York can do anything about it, don't even blink twice because of it.
