If you have been tracking calories and weight you can use your data to get a more personalised TDEE than you'll get from generic formulas. Search for "adaptive TDEE spreadsheet reddit" or use tdee.fit or calorietracker.io
Btw you could also try the website calorietracker.io which is basically a web version of the spreadsheet.
I found it on Reddit and the person who made it stressed that it's still in testing mode. But I've tried it and it seems more responsive to changes than the spreadsheet. It also has nice graphs!
I’m 49F, and I’ve lost about 20 pounds since the new year. I also tried to slow my weight loss down during the last five pounds or so. I found using an adaptive TDEE calculator to be really helpful. I know there’s a spreadsheet a lot of folks use, but I use this web app — https://calorietracker.io — which does the same thing. It’s helped me get a clear picture of what maintenance looks like. I’ve actually found eating more calories to be a bit of a challenge, so adding extra slowly is good advice, I think.
Your BMR stays about the same for a given weight range, it can change over time with age and other factors, but for now, figure it's stable at a given number. Your TDEE is just BMR+some activity. So, while your BMR might be stable your TDEE changes every day based on your activity that day. If you keep a fairly regular exercise routine, your TDEE will be more stable of course. The only way, and I mean only way to lose weight, is to make sure you are consistently eating below your TDEE. As long as calories in < calories out, you will lose weight over time. Don't trust whatever the calculators out there are telling you about your TDEE, though. The only way to know your true TDEE is making sure that you're keeping a good log of your calorie intake and weighing yourself daily or close to daily. Trial and error is the only way to figure out an accurate TDEE, there's no shortcuts or magic online calculator that tells you exactly how many calories your body expends per day. You can use a TDEE spreadsheet to do so, or I recommend using calorietracker.io and it'll handle it for you and calculate your TDEE over time for you.
Try https://calorietracker.io. It literally tells you exactly what your TDEE is if you have a few days+ of data (daily weight and calories in). If you don’t have data yet, start with lightly active and then use the tracker in a days and adjust.
I exported my data from MFP. I opened a zip and got three CSV's. I went to import them using the import logs feature on calorietracker.io and the import failed.
Did the feature ever work such that a user could download their CSV's from MFP and then directly upload them with no other input?
Not an app but a site: https://calorietracker.io/
It has a more modern and colorful UI than Libra.

Sounds like you're at a comfortable weight right now. If you are concerned with losing weight though, daily/frequent weigh ins are definitely the best way to make sure you're not slipping.
If you really want to calculate your TDEE accurately, the calculators out there are kinda bullshit. The best way to do it is trial and error over time. Start inputting your calorie intake/outtake and weight into the TDEE spreadsheet or something like calorietracker.io that actively tracks your TDEE changes. I highly recommend!
I would recommend sedentary, but don't worry too much about it. If you're having trouble calculating, either use the TDEE spreadsheet (you can find it floating around on reddit) or try something like calorietracker.io
Definitely try calorietracker.io if you're having trouble calculating your TDEE. It can recalculate your TDEE as your data changes over time (weight and intake/outtake) . The only way to figure out your TDEE is constant trial and error. Keep up the work! You can do this!
This. This, 100% this. TDEE can only be calculated through trial and error. If you're not seeing results try something like the TDEE spreadsheet or this website calorietracker.io that calculates and recalculates it for you, and also synchs with MFP.
Hey! If you're really concerned with accuracy, the only way to really know your TDEE is by trial and error. You can either track it using a spreadsheet (https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/4mhvpn/adaptive_tdee_tracking_spreadsheet_v3_rescue/) Or by using something like calorietracker.io (I prefer this site) It links to MFP and actively calculates your TDEE and weight goals.
either THE tdee spreadsheet or try using calorietracker.io. It links to myfitnesspal and can help you easily calculate your TDEE. don't worry too much about the initial activity level
I found calculator.net to be highly inaccurate. (To each their own though). Which is why I use calorietracker.io. It basically just replaces the excel spreadsheet I used to have to monitor weight and calories to determine TDEE. Unfortunately, My fitness pal does not yet accurately calculate TDEE.
much appreciated! and yes csv uploading is supported https://calorietracker.io/import/csv! but you pretty much have to follow the instructions perfectly or it will silently error out. im working on make it more user friendly
Previous post got removed on Saturday because this is personal data!
I lost about 25 pounds since the middle of June and wanted to share how I did it in an interesting way. Every day I logged my caloric intake, weight and caloric expenditure (from my AW). Surprisingly, AW caloric expenditure - my net caloric intake gives me 95% accuracy for predicting my weight lost thus far. Better yet, I was able to use my own formulas to get a super-accurate daily TDEE (total calories burned for the day) which helped me calculate my daily calorie goals more accurately.
The images and data in the screenshot come from a tool I made myself which utilizes Chart.js: https://calorietracker.io/analytics/ Anyone can try it if they have weight and caloric intake data or use a calorie tracking tool like myfitnesspal
code is available on gitlab if anyone is interested
Also that big spike at the end of June was gf's birthday...lots of alcohol pizza and desserts lol
awesome thank you so much! If you go to https://calorietracker.io/import/mfp and click edit MFP settings you should be able to enable auto-sync and hit save.
that feature will basically import all your logs from MFP from the start date onwards once a day every day to keep it synced!
