I recently started using Affinity Photo on my iPad for travel. I may have to check out the desktop version.
I've been weaning myself off Photoshop because the Nik Collection plug-ins are dead. I've been using Luminar https://macphun.com/luminar on my Mac (Windows version ships Nov 1) because some of the Nik developers worked on it.
I'll wait to see what Luminar 2018 can do. They announced digital asset manager, and this is one of the most important Lightroom's features I need. Also, The Sun Rays filter - do want.
I love Nik and still have them but their support is ending and they won't be able to run on modern versions of PS and Mac OS (Windows as well, I assume). I relied on these tools for years but have transitioned over to Luminar and been able to reproduce 85-90% of my Color Efex presets there. It's not the same but still has active support.
I am keeping my MBP at a low OS version and maintaining PS 2014 on it so that the Nik system still works on it.

In Lightroom there are more functions. Here are built-in retouching and thought-out interface. But CaptureOne Pro takes the user quality of manufacture. Because if you're just starting to work with RAW and editing, you can safely take on Lightroom. For Mac try new editing tools from here https://macphun.com
GIMP, undoubtedly one of the leading free raster graphics editor. Particularly pleased with Script-Fu - once to do the script, and then use it as much as you want. Try https://macphun.com editing tools (it is cheaper than adobe soft)
