Its bad because it will push people to other games, hell I just learned a bunch about these three today that I wasn't planning on playing instead of ED, but now I am looking elsewhere. http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/07/02/no-mans-sky-everything-you-need-to-know-ign-first
>better story elements
tbh I think the story elements currently in the game barely scratch the surface of what's planned.
http://empyriongame.com/story/ - it appears that the end goal here is to find "Empyrion" and save Earth. Based on the fact that nothing in game even references "Empyrion" except the title, I'd say the story's barely even begun.
I think you'll get enough enjoyment out of it to warrant the $20 price tag, and development is going strong so you will probably want to revisit months down the road. Right now I was unable to find a roadmap, last I say the developers wanted to do one but are putting it off.
This was their last one, which is only available from an archive site https://web.archive.org/web/20151207145643/http://empyriongame.com/roadmap/
The space breaks one was a big issue for me, but planets are usually very close together, and if they aren't you just warp to a new sector, which is just another map, unlike Space Engineers where it appears to be fluid transition with lots of stuff in-between.
It has potential, but I'm unsure just how much. Again the game engine seems very limiting, and I think they'll need to overcome that first.
Overall, the game managed to make me consider buying a good computer at the end of the year and enjoy other space games
Then it's done its job :)
Basically think I'm at the same point as you ('cept I've got a PC and mods for the game, haven't finished the path of Atlas but have got all the blueprints - seemingly), but the lack of actual diversity in space, planets and creatures has boredom creeping in more and more.
But now the tech has been proven, other / better games will be coming out, empyrean (not as nice graphics) and Planet Nomads (only one planet but with varying biomes and a solar system planned) are already in the pipeline, both more survival based and fan funded (so not as expensive).
Then there's Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous which is more space based game play - tho for ED I would wait until they've got atmospheric planetary landings (only dead moons so far) and SC looks to be a few years from release yet.
So, the future is bright - and you never know, Hello Games might keep updating the game like they say they will.
Make sure you post this on the community forums and social media pages. Might get noticed a bit faster that way. Well done!
EDIT: Make some more tracks and let your creativity flow. Use the Empyrion Storyline to drive it! It would be cool to have a few tracks for specific actions as well like, combat music, mining music, exploration music, space flight music, etc. We kinda have that now, but in limited situations. Keep up the good work!
Exploits may be discussed as long as the process to complete the exploit is not stated. Exploits should be reported to Eleon Studios by using the mail-adress on this site^Rule ^4
Space engineers is $24.99 and has a free planetary landings update coming soon. You can fly seamlessly from planet to planet through space. Building your own spaceships and bases, with way more people in the server then in elite. Also this game came out today and only cost $16.
Just saying.
I saw Scott Manley play this game. http://empyriongame.com/ looks pretty cool imo. It apperently has survival, crafting, planetary landings etc. Im gonna try it and see what it is all about. Cheers :)
Thanks for the feedback. We are planning to have planets of different sizes. The larger ones will be about 150 km^2 which means that a player would need about 60min to circle the entire planet by foot (see also FAQ on our website: http://empyriongame.com/?page_id=1314).
Copy and paste from a few days ago:
Empyrion - Galactic Survival, which is currently in a Humble Bundle right now. To be upfront, this is an unfinished game, but the space combat is pretty awesome. Empyrion technically starts as ground survival, but you can pick an advanced start to just skip that whole thing and go straight to space. I personally like starting in the hovercraft part of the game. In space the game becomes Space Minecraft Starships (same as Space Engineers except way, way more combat focused). You can even disable enemy starships in space combat then board them and fight to take them over instead of destroy them. It's both singleplayer offline and multiplayer.
If you like the survival aspects of Subnautica and also want to fly a space ship, this is the one.
And even unfinished it's in a significantly better state than Star Citizen.
You have digging and filling with a tool. You can make hovercraft to dig in. You can build based, short rang flying craft and massive capital ships. You can grow cross and cook. You have a unlimited galaxy to explore and different kinds of planets to visit with different factions to meet.
Have you checked out Empyrion: Galactic Survival? It is not exactly "factory" but you need to set up each separate part (mining, by hand-laser--you can carve cool caverns and stair ways!) then by machine with recent updates, I gather), small assemblers (constructors they are called), large ones, make space ship parts, visit moons asteroids and other systems, collect rare ore, but there is a lot of survival at first until you conquer your starting planet (and then more on harder ones).
I had the same experience (in a diff. way, but more intense) I had with the F! and KSP demos: Played Factorio demo for 4-20 hours and wanted to buy it (I think this was in 2015). Empyrion had a free weekend and I put down 40 hours (by extending my demo save onto a bootleg copy for another day, until I could buy it) in those 4 days, then another twenty or more until I broke my computer.

Factory-wise, "Astroneer" looks interesting (a bit more streamlined and casual-friendly than F!) but not as complicated, and there is the SpaceChem game (factory puzzle), and now TIS-100 (assembly language "factory" puzzle game), and from the same creator(s), Infinifactory.

I've seen the roadmap referenced a few times in comments, however this is showing a 404 error for me, I'm not sure if its loading properly. Although I've seen robots are on the roadmap, I haven't been able to review the roadmap myself.
I can't justify paying $200 for the promise of 4+ years of releases instead of using that to get other games that already have them.

I can buy all three of those games for less than half the price of the unknown updates.
I really want to support this game because I think its a lot of fun, and I'd pay $50 for the lifetime they offered before, but I don't feel right paying $50 for a single expansion pack of the unknown which they've told us more about whats not included than what will be.
Thanks for pre-ordering. It seems that this issue "PDT verification" appears from time to time but normally your pre-order should have processed. To be sure, please contact us with your transaction number (http://empyriongame.com/contact-2/) and we will verify.
Thanks for all the answers, highly appreciated :) If you can/have time/could, please add that to the (very good) design doc you've got started there on your website : http://empyriongame.com/?p=385 :)
