You might want to look at Franz Supports 34 clients (mostly by wrappers around web interfaces) and works quite well for me.
I have Slack, whatsapp, gmail, google hangouts, steam and skype all going in the same client.
Obviously not as fully featured as the full clients but it's very convenient.
Edit: it also supports most of the suggestions suggested elsewhere in this thread.
Chat is crying out for a good open standard. It's getting real old bouncing around all of these different clients to talk to different people. Pidgin was awesome in its day, but with everyone abandoning XMPP it's getting pretty tough to use it anymore, even with plugins. Things like Franz aren't really the same. I don't want "chat" to mean "chat plus our platform's huge bloated web frontend."
I DISCOVERED FRANZ THE OTHER DAY, SO NOW THEY'RE ALL IN ONE CLIENT KIND OF LIKE TRILLIAN WAS BACK IN THE IM DAYS
WHICH SAYS TO ME THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO REINVENT CHAT PRETTY SOON
For chatting in general I use Franz, a wonderful little piece of software that bundles all your chat services (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp Web, Slack, Discord, Twitter, even GMail) into one window.
Franz also has SteamChat support. You could log both accounts into a separate SteamChat entry.
Great list.
If you are interested in more alternatives to WhatsDesk you can take a look at Franz https://meetfranz.com/
It's a multi-messenger tool that makes it easy to have all your messengers in one single application. I use it for several slack accounts, WhatsApp, Android Messages and there are many more integrations.
A propos de la confidentialité:
" It may not look like it, but Franz is actually very similar to a web browser and therefore does not need direct access to external service API's. That means that Franz does not store any of your external service login credentials on your computer or on a cloud service. The only data being stored are cookies and the browser cache – like when you’re using a web browser like Safari or Chrome. "

I ended up just installing all of the official apps, and since I also have them on my mobile, I still get the notifications, and I only start the necessary app when I want to reply from the computer - and when done I quit them.
Viber, Signal is the slowest of the bunch (from the startup speed, and performance perspective). WhatsApp and Skype is meh. Messenger is surprisingly fast to launch. None of them M1 native still.
RCS Messages is how we get iMessage like features outside the Apple walled garden. I guess im not that worried about integrations since most of my messaging apps don't really have that. I do use Franz though.
> When I last checked, Franz wasn't seeing any development (after the fork).
No, looks like the fork started 3 years ago (https://github.com/getferdi/ferdi), and latest update to Franz is 2019-10-30 (https://meetfranz.com/changelog).
Basically, it's a webapp that let you access the main messaging accounts into one window, like WhatsApp Web, Telegram, Discord and so on. It uses RAM like there's no tomorrow, but it's so useful while on PC: https://meetfranz.com/
or you can use the new Android mirroring feature on PC, but I haven't tried it extensively
I found the app I was looking for. -Franz (https://meetfranz.com)
While searching, I came across the following two applications which seem to be leading the market: - Shift (https://tryshift.com) - Station (https://getstation.com)
Simplest is probably to use Firefox with containers (maybe spoof user agent string for meetings) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/
Might work with something like

>pushbullet
you start by just wanting to see phones notification on your PC. Then you might want to send sms messages from your pc, without picking up the damn phone. Thats what it does. Then it also has just own quick messaging system and file sending system. Its rather straight forward, no bullshit, simple, good interface, decently reliable.
But of course no linux desktop client like for windows, but they do have browser extension which is good enough.
You can also use its api and send sms from scripts, python, bash, whatever,...

Its all great till you discover something like franz.
>Franz
Franz and Rambox are the big names here.
They put lot of messaging, social, web apps in to one big place.
I got whatsapp, sms messaging, pushbullet, google calendar and goole keep.
Theres AUR packagge for archlinux/manjaro that just works....
i added my google calender to franz, which is a client for multiple social media things like whatsapp and facebook messenger. i really like it as a allround desktop solution for work purposes. you can find it here: https://meetfranz.com/
Personally I run franz https://meetfranz.com/ and just put all the chats on that monitor, turn off notification so it won't pop up on the right hand side. My main monitor for productivity is on the right side and I can focus for as long as I want without being distracted.

Hey there~
The mod for dark mode works just perfect for the windows version, I love it and thanks a lot for your hard work.
What I mean for Franz is this: https://meetfranz.com/
This app gets you a lot of... messaging and whatnot stuff into one client, I believe this is chromium based. I was wondering on -how- to actually apply something like your mod to Franz but to be honest I was trying to find by myself and couldn't do it for the life of me.
Franz is free software, according to their website. There is no monthly charge.

>Okay here I got a question. I have used and liked i3. Was gonna install Sway on my workstation when I got it (its late in shipping). I am not married to i3 or Sway. Any reason to try way-cooler when I get my workstation instead? Is it too early in development? Should I just get Sway and then look into way-cooler later?
No not really. Just an interesting project that I thought looked cool for an alternative tiling wm for Wayland. According to their github, there are previous releases that are stable, but not completely up to date. In my opinion, it's too early in development to give it a shot yet. I would recommend sway first since it's such an easy transition from i3.
I use the separate browser profile's in Chrome method as described below.
If you want to save time, you might also like Franz: https://meetfranz.com/ Keeps all your communication channels in one place, this really boosted my efficiency work-wise.

Meet Franz, it's an electron wrapper that lets you house whatsapp, slack, fb messenger, gmail/inbox, discord, telegram and a bunch more all in the one application.
I've been using it for months and it's absolutely great, it allows me to have all of my methods of communication available in one program and isn't too bad on resources. It's cross-platform and both the windows and linux clients work great in my experience.
checkout https://meetfranz.com ... they implemented whatsapp web and fb messenger quite nicely, i thought that might be possible for a mobile app as well... and SMS – no idea how hard or impossible it may be to extract those to a third-party app 🤷♂️ am no developer, am just frustrated user of many messaging thingys...
Though not the answer you were looking for, I use Franz as a kind of slack client - while also bundling in Whatsapp, facebook Messenger, Google Calendar + Trello.
I don't know any, but you may want to consider Franz, a free messaging app for Slack, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and many more. It can send message notifications to your desktop and can play sound notifications. It's open source as well.
