Have a look at more pictures here. The Sims looks like a completely different game with the overhauled lighting! I'm extremely happy to see such a classic game look even more pleasing!
Hm, downloading unknown .exe files from a page published on a dynamic DNS service, re-using the freeSO logo and written in a language I don't understand.
What could possibly go wrong... :-/
On alternativeto.net I found FreeSO and OpenSimulator, albeit OpenSimulator looks to me more like a 3d chat MMO/ secondlife alternative.
Both probably. I'm just stating what they said on their blog.
> A few months ago we were contacted by EA regarding how the TSO IP should be handled. At that time, you may have noticed a change in logo to avoid the house motif, the addition of multiple disclaimers to our websites, and further insistence on taking no donations for server costs (really, no change). Given even just its relevance to me, The Sims’ IP is clearly something that is worth EA protecting from any potential damage, so I complied with these terms immediately out of respect.

The release is delayed. The official FreeSO dev team statement is at: http://freeso.org/surprising-results-notes-from-the-ashes-of-my-servers/
Earlier tonight one of my kiddos was watching Laurenzside on YouTube.. and she had Sims Online videos from a year ago.
Which led me to discover the existence of FreeSO, a community-run 3D remake of TSO. I haven't tested it myself but if a YTer can make videos using it then it must work.. right?
Going to give it a shot momentarily. Tagging some other folks who mentioned TSO here. :D

I would at least get Sims 3 Deluxe which comes with Ambitions, if you are able.
Ambitions is really great if you like to customize stuff because it adds the stylist and architect job, but if you don't care about that then don't worry about it. I also have Late Night and Island Paradise, and both of them are a buggy, disappointing mess, although I do enjoy the new items added by both.
Sims 3 is my favorite addition to the franchise - I haven't played 4 yet because I love customization, and Sims 4 lacks the ability to make your own clothes/wallpapers/furniture colors etc. I will say however that EA is pretty bipolar about quality. Sims 3 is such a fun game, but the DLC are incredibly overpriced and half-baked.
Also, I haven't played this so I can't vouch for its quality, but just fyi Free Sims Online exists. http://freeso.org/
It's not a miracle

TLDR: Project like SoapBox Raceworld won't get sued if
a. The project distant itself from the original IP
b. The project don't take any money
c. The project don't have a mobile port
SoapBox Raceworld ticks all of those boxes
Haha sorry my bad! Here is the website: http://freeso.org
You register for an account and then download the installer. Once the installer is ready, open it and click on installer to finish installing the rest of the stuff needed. Then you can play and create up to 3 sims :)
Just to clarify, I believe all the Sims games on PC allow you to pause, resume and speed-up time at any point you like, so you don't have to worry about not being able to play frequently.
Speaking of the Sims, if you're fine with older graphics, less features and simpler simulation, there's a free unofficial reimplementation of The Sims Online (not The Sims 1, but the massively multiplayer variant) PC game called FreeSO, might be worth a shot.
Thanks for the reply! :) I hadn't had the time to check the video in full before, much less look at the project's official site, so thanks for the quick and easy explanation.
Meanwhile, I managed to check out the video in full, and read more in depth about the process (detailed here).
I didn't know the sprites also had full z-index component to them, so that explains how the game is now capable of transforming 2D sprites into fully rendered 3D models - in essence doing what devices such as the Kinect do, in a way.
Still, using that information from all 4 possible viewing angles to make a mesh is quite the impressive work! Not perfect, as detailed in the blog post and seen in the video, but still very impressive. Thankfully, it's also possible to import hand-made meshes of the items - maybe if the community joins in and each person does an object or two we'd have the entire Sims catalog re-meshed and ready to use! :D
It's not this deep dude lmao. They aren't getting paid for anything, and they aren't breaking any laws? The creator of the project goes into it on their blog, which I suggest you check out. EDIT: providing a link. http://freeso.org/ts1-ios-port-cancelled/
This post is old so you may already know, but if you miss TSO, you should join us at FreeSO. It's a fan remake that's fairly active but could always use new players. It has almost everything from TSO.
A group of fans have recently re-engineered The Sims Online to run on their custom server. It has roughly 100-200 players online each day.
It's called FreeSO http://freeso.org. Here's a guide on how to get started if you're interested: www.tsomania.net/gameguides/getting_started.php
Slime Rancher - Based off your wife's interests, I'd say this game is a pretty strong contender out of the curator list because it's a very adorable game which have no combat so it's a very chill game she can get into.
The Witness - Both of you may enjoy this game, there's a lot of puzzles placed all over the island where you go explore and find the puzzles, put your head together to solve the puzzles together.
Cook, Serve, Delicious 2 - There's both casual and very difficult mode so you'd both get some enjoyment out of this as you learn how to manage a resturaunt, mix the menu ups and fix up the resturaunt.
Another game called FREESO I'd like to recommend to your wife that's not on the curator list and it's a online sims community where she can build, earn money and converse with other people, here's the link: http://freeso.org/
Ok, so remember The Sims Online?
Well i have good news! You can play it right now for free!! You can download the launcher from Here! I'm pretty sure it includes the whole Sims 1 game and you can play online with friends too!
People have also been working on updating the whole Sims 1 game to be in actual 3D. Every object remeshed! Once you get the launcher from the website you can download the game and also the remesh package to play The Sims in full 3D!
I'll also leave the main Discord here if you needed any help with seting up!
I'm very surprised how few know about this since i find this whole project amazing.... Sims, BUT WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND FOR FREE!
dude i can promise it's full working no virus or anything http://freeso.org/ it came out in January but stopped because ea closed them but they moved to a different game engine so ea can't stop them. Even watch some videos on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eei0hJ5jmrE
superstar is one of my favorite sims games ever :)

Here's their website if you want to download the launcher and play it (you don't need have to the original The Sims Online files) or just read about what's happening, apparently their servers are bustling with players (over 1000 players on day 1 alone).
