Yea they better do something soon, there's a decent amount of competitors popping up. Either in dev, in alpha or already launched. There's theta.tv, altair.tv (in dev) and glimesh.tv which is in Alpha, it's my personal favorite considering it uses Mixers codec for low latency and has some decent features, like Animated Emotes before Twitch ironically.
Personally I'm hoping someone takes off to become a major competitor, it's not likely but it'd be way better for everyone lol. I mean Twitch would have to actually try, but if they did they'd end up with a better platform overall probably helping them grow. Instead they're shooting themselves in the foot.
Hopefully this isn't against rules to comment, it doesn't seem to be so I'll just mention it.
I just recently found out about another site, it's not out yet, but it's called Glimesh it's open source, has a clear DMCA setup already, and they have it hard outlined how the money is split, specifically down to what their cut is used for.
That and I mean... open source. They're currently running a few test streams on the site to test out the speed of their chat, cause from what they say the delay between chat and the stream is super minimal. I was checking it out after someone mentioned it to me and on the stream itself they have a clock which was near identical to mine, plus some messages I watched pop up in the chat at essentially the same time on the stream.
You might want to check out glimesh.tv, it's an upcoming platform that has similar (if not better) FTL technology, plus it's completely open source. It hasn't launched yet but I'm really excited for it.
Sorry, but what are you even talking about. Supporting Facebook to have a competitor in streaming? Where do you live and what are you thinking? :D
Rather support open-data streaming platforms like: https://glimesh.tv/about/
But not Facebook :D
Glad to hear you're checking us out, and welcome! If you have any questions feel free to join our Discord and use the channel we have for it, or you can ping me to see if I'm available for a voice chat and you can learn whatever you want to know that way. In any case, glad to have you and I'll be keeping an eye out for you!
No problem, it's what I'm here for! Considering that the most marketing we've done is a promoted tweet here, and sponsored Facebook post there just to test the waters, we've actually had some pretty great growth and retention. That is in large part due to the amazing community we have, some of whom really love what we're doing and they like to tell people about it. We knew going in that we would have a huge explosion of interest and then a sharp decline post-launch. Things have been relatively steady since then, nothing either exciting or alarming honestly. Unfortunately, we've hit a bit of a slog getting this mobile app and the low latency RTMP done, so once that is finally launched we will be super pumped and ready to hit the ground running on any possible boom we get from those announcements.
I appreciate you taking the time to talk and learn more! If you have any questions or just want to chat some people up and poke around, I definitely recommend joining the Discord server (you can find it here). Whenever you decide to drop in, we will be here :)
So, a friend of mine and I are trying to get a talkshow about Destiny off the ground. We do it on Fridays and yeah, what's so different about it that no one else is doing? Basically we're being asses about it with a lack of professionalism, beating jokes well into the ground after they should have been killed off and very low watches (so far). If you guys play on PC and are interested in being a guest for a week, drop me a line - we've had one guest so far that we haven't managed to scare off and it's always good to have others, especially if you're a streamer - great way to expose your stream to the audience.
And if anyone is interested in watching, it's on my channel on Friday evenings at 9PM ET at glimesh.tv/Shinzakura or my partner's at twitch.tv/Geister1819 .
