> So how do I get the internet to give me money?
You need to have a whitepaper and a nice looking website. In case you are not experienced in whitepapery there are plenty of experts available for hire at competitive rates. Once you have both in order, spam it everywhere on social media and watch it rain.
Hmm... 8$/hour for the average indian artist. There seems to be a lot of potential for reddit oc. https://www.guru.com/d/freelancers/q/shirt-design/c/design-art/pg/2/ Edit : I like especially the ones that earned quite some money with their 0$/hour. What a cheap trick.
The above art was made by a friend of mine for a The Walking Dead and The Last Of Us crossover roleplay I am involved in, which is currently being made into a novelised Fanfiction which can be found.

Go back to school, but only if you're going to be dedicated to it. No use in wasting more money if you don't think you'll be committed enough to finish. In the meantime, find a job that is going to pay your bills; a shitty job is only permanent if you make it permanent. If you're confident about your writing, try freelance sites like Odesk and Guru. Post some of your writing, apply for contract jobs, and build your portfolio. Take on some of the shitty, low pay jobs and expand your freelance profile. It takes dedication and persistence, but if you really want to get out of your rut, then get persistent. Whatever you do, do something. Don't regret your situation, just build on it.
I used Guru back in the day, not sure if there are better marketplaces now. Basically, set up a profile, look for reasonable RFPs, and send a well-written bid. I highlight well-written here because you'll be competing against folks for whom English is not their first language, so you might be able to get a slight advantage in terms of communication. Also, you'll want to find the RFPs that would be willing to pay decent rates, and aren't looking for dirt cheap development. You start to get a sense of that over time.
I always wanted to work in indie development, can I do it? All jokes aside, you could look for people that have the skills you need on websites like this:
https://www.guru.com/m/hire/freelancers/video-game-designers-developers/.
Just realize it may take some time to find somebody actually qualified or not already working. Game designer is a vague thing to be proficient in, and in reality only about 1/3 of game designers are likely skilled in that particular aspect of game design.
Nothing that adheres to those rules will likely pay your standard minimum wage. However, if you aren't worried about the pay per hour and just need online work, check out https://www.guru.com/

Guru literally says “It’s best to just take a ”selfie” on your phone and use that” then specifies the following requirements: (1) Make sure you are the only one in the frame and (2) Your eyes should be clearly visible and looking into the camera”.

You got a lot of great answers already but I'll just add one... if your product is the kind of thing that has hard surfaces and is made by machines, that makes it something that is easily renderable. As opposed to something like a sweater, or, I dunno, food.
If that's what you sell, then imo rendering is the way to go.
Most of the photographers who are capable of doing Apple-level pictures, have lots of experience and use camera and lighting rigs that cost upwards of $10,000 or $20,000. There are a million amateurs with good cameras but they have no idea about lighting and composition.
A 3D artist can make a beautiful 'shot' for you, with far less money or experience. Like a good looking cell phone could be made within their first month of learning 3D.
Examples: https://i.imgur.com/OIjAoRl.png
https://i.imgur.com/jepsmx2.png
At the risk of sounding braggy those are made with less than 6 months experience and free software. But after 3 years of photography I still could never take photos that look like that.
So if I were you, I would consider hiring a decent 3D artist. Or learn it yourself, but honestly I wouldn't wish blender on my worst enemy, it's not easy to learn. It's just the right price.
Since it IS free, my theory is that freelancers who use it might come cheap, some of them anyway, so I might shop around blender freelance forums. I can't speak to whether this is a good one but it's what I found with a quick google: https://www.guru.com/d/freelancers/q/blender/
It depends upon your skill sets what are they? Coding projects if you can program. Sites like Fiverr:
https://www.fiverr.com is a good place to make a quick buck or five dollars per filled request. If your service provides a perceived genuine value; it’s not difficult to generate several hundred dollars per day; as you can always offer package upgrades for a slight upgrade fee.
Then there’s https://www.guru.com for coders, graphic artists, writers, admins, engineers, lawyers, etc.
Freelancer has all sorts of remote employment opportunities to include data entry projects.
You have a point, I'm just wrapped up in this vision of really beautiful artwork, stuff that I like to see when I read a comic or GN, and it's hard to find that for a price that isn't super professional it seems.
I'll link his page, it looks like the $100/hr is only for major projects. I'm not sure if what I'm doing is considered a major project or not.
It looks like smaller projects are more negotiable, I'll probably just do the cover and the first 6 pages so I can start a kick-starter and I'll have enough work done to send to a publisher as well
>Small projects are estimated by the project. >Ideally I prefer half payments up front and half upon completion.

Some of his more realistic looking art is really eye-catching.
