That said, I think it's important to keep in mind that what you get out of confiding in somebody isn't a person that 100% understands and experiences what you are feeling, but rather, this very valuable experience of getting something out of your system, and also, learning to look at a situation from different perspective and gaining insight from it.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to start journaling. This can take any form you want it to: you can hand-write it, you can doodle it, you can type it, etc.
If you really need to confide in someone and you're not comfortable confiding in people that you are close with, it can also be helpful to reach out to a hotline (not a suicidal one, just a general help one), and to call or text about it.
In a pinch, r/helpme and r/MMFB can help, too.
There's also always 7 Cups, which is a website full of really kind and wholesome volunteers - often students that are looking to go into psychology/psychiatry will volunteer there, in fact - that employ active listening techniques and listen to you vent and help you work through your problems in a private and non-intrusive way. Went through this in May last year. Walking home one night was jumped and beaten by 2 men in an RV bad enough I had to get stiches in my hand at the ER. The reason was my employer at the time McDonalds had rejected their application and they decided to beat me for it, despite the fact I was in no way shape or form involved in hiring (dishwasher ffs). While I have not yet fully moved on what helped me was the support of family and friends though I wish I hadn't had to threaten to call the cops on my dad if he went out with his rifles to shoot them (hes invested a lot in his collection). They still have not been aprehended but from the records on the morons I was able to pull it will be sooner rather than later. They have several missed bench warrants, and were on 'supervised parole'. And plan on nailing them where it will hurt the most, financially.
Some good already came out of it, and McDonalds in my county and another one that the franchise serves have blacklisted them from the company and any property location, meaning they can't even order food there. Would advise on getting something like a stun gun/flashlight combo such as what I got and tbh use the flashlight the most since its rechargable.

There is a concept called 'completing the stress response' that might apply here. The idea is that when we get stressed out about something we either do something about it (fight or flight) or we don't/can't (freeze). If we get stuck in the 'freeze' part of the stress response we have symptoms such as dissociation, helplessness, lack of motivation and depression. Having a burst of adrenaline and DOING something with that stress response can break you out of the stuck 'freeze' episode. You can read "Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma" or the first chapter of "Burnout" for more info.
