The average person doesn't see how email is different from the web (anymore) ; and big companies like Google aren't making it better. They "rehost" content for some advertisement emails now (for good reasons), but they still allow the tracking pixels and links to get back to the originating advertiser ( https://mailtrack.io/blog/google-email-tracking-gmail/ ).
The same is true for web-tracking. We have "free annual credit reports" for the credit agencies, but there isn't an equivalent monitoring group for "everything else".
This is largely why there's been a huge shift towards "direct engagement", as people have smartphones and older generation die off who wouldn't move to the "newer" tech. The old tricks for email won't work in a decade, but as you point out, they'll just move the tracking tech to the phone app / dedicated website.
The US needs privacy laws similar to what we have for credit agencies, but for any personal data set that is bought/sold.

1) I look at data in GA to help customise emails with MailChimp - I don't link them up (But there is an option for that - haven't had the time).
2) MailChimp tells ya who opens emails and who don't - could sort them based on that... A bit of a/b testing etc
3) Try email them then follow up with a call on those who open ya email but dont response? Resend email to those that dont open email - might missed it etc (Try different email cta?) This can be automated with MailChimp
4) With Gmail, look into Streak for bulk email sending and delayed email sending.
5) With Gmail tracking, you could look into https://mailtrack.io/en/ (but not sure it works with Streak - I stopped using mailtrack because I couldn't care about personal emails - mailchimp does what I need)
6) Use normal emails (no design) with Mailchimp and include your email signature etc so that it seems personal yet professional.
MailTrack.io is a simple Gmail/Google apps plugin that will let you know when others read your messages. Viewed as unethical but not something to use everytime of course. I have noticed, most e-mails are read very quickly.
The company emails have an invisible pixel in them. When Xavier simply forwarded it to the chinaman who then opened the email from a different IP address, it was detected by the original sender since every time you open a new email you "request" it from the server. Could have been avoided if Xavier copied/pasted into a new plaintext document and email.
This is also the same simple technology behind mailtrack.io
Insert a tracker into your email and send it to someone, so that when they click on it, the tracker reports back that they have clicked on it.
I had to use it for work purposes but it's really invasive and nonconsensual. It disturbs me on an ethical level.

G Suite is far superior when it comes to email as you get access to Gmail's infrastructure and the Gmail app.
Note: You can use email tracking add-ons such as Mailtrack.io in Gmail/G Suite, which is not available in Zoho Mail. This is one of the primary reasons why I use G Suite (plus access to 30GB of cloud storage, Docs, Sheets and Slides).

Mailtrack.io is a good option for pure open tracking.
Yesware is great for non-automated sales emails + open tracking. Not sure about integrations with mac mail, and frankly, I'd strongly recommend using gmail / g suite for this and not mac mail.
Is this mainly for tax purposes? If you're doing 1099 work you can try Keeper Tax, I just signed up and really straight forward way to track expenses.
