It's open source and available on GitHub so anyone who wants to fork it is free to do so. There's already unofficial updated builds over at doom9 (by a guy who was involved in mpc-hc, so not even that unofficial): https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209
There's also MPC-BE, which I've been meaning to try, apparently it's pretty nice as well.
Hi Friend!
I'm aware the MPC-HC got an update the other day. But I wouldn't really consider it being "actively developed". More so, it's being maintained. It's in a state in which the developer isn't adding new features to it. Only providing upkeep with the bugs and small fixes. Which we can see in the changelog. Also the developer has stated they won't be adding any new features to the player.
Huh?
Why did a the developer start working on MPC-HC again after it was abandoned by the original team?
I don't know, maybe he just likes it? You can ask him, here is the development thread:
https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209
The last official update was 1.17.13, released 2 years ago (July 16, 2017).
The unofficial build is being maintained here - https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209
> This is an unofficial build. It is based on the latest source code of the official project, plus several additional fixes and improvements. And most importantly, it includes the very latest version of LAV Filters!
> It is unclear if there will ever be an new 'official' release. The other developers that were involved in the project have all lost interest.
> I have been involved in MPC development (with small contributions) for almost 15 years, so consider these builds as semi-official releases.
> I will NOT be working on any new features. So please don't post any feature requests in this topic. I will only work on small improvements that interest me personally.
https://github.com/mpc-hc/mpc-hc is the official repo of MPC-HC, you linked to one of the over 700 forks. In that developer's own words "<strong>I will NOT be working on any new features. So please don't post any feature requests in this topic.</strong> I will only work on small improvements that interest me personally."
MPC-BE is the fork under active development and has been for years.
Funny thing is I tried both MPC-BE and this https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209 ... samething, weird couple second lag opening up videos. But with Windows default player works fine and so does VLC. I of course uninstalled and reset settings for each. Could it be codecs?
Nope, was using https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209

Then I tried MPC-BE and then K-lite codec with MPC-HC.. samething. Windows default player works fine and so does VLC. I of course uninstalled and reset settings for each. Could it be codecs?
