Either is fine, though "much excite" is of course the more correct way. :-)
Regarding your question.....
I think most people just use the full official client.
I also use the Android "Dogecoin wallet" app and carry some coins around on that which I mostly give out to friends, colleagues and random people.
If you want a thin client then I hear that Multidoge is a good one, though I haven't tried it myself.
I see you had some bad experiences on /r/bitcoin despite doing some great work. Shame to see that, but I'm honestly not too surprised. Here is a totally different atmosphere where we care a lot less about the price (1 doge = 1 doge) and more about having fun and getting people to actually use dogecoin rather than just hoarding it hoping for the price to go up. That's also why most people agreed that it was better to have 5B new coins added every year forever rather than a cap.
It's definitely more fun, friendly and helpful here. I have both bitcoin and dogecoin, but I care much more about dogecoin. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask! It's always allowed to ask basic questions here, not just on certain days ;-).
And don't be afraid to tip people here and spread the wealth. Even the 5 doge minimum tip is fine here. So just leave a small tip if you see something you like. It is nice for the receiver and hopefully you'll find that it's nice to give a tip too. I think the tipping is why we're all so happy here!
+/u/dogetipbot 25 doge
I hope you will use this to tip other shibes, but of course you can do whatever you want with it. Have fun and hope you enjoy the ride with us to the moo^o^o^n!!!! :-)
You may wish to consider migrating to a lightweight client, which stores your wallet locally but does not participate fully in the peer-to-peer community network.
At the moment, the only one I know of is Multidoge. (See also its announcement thread)
No, you'll have to download the blockchain from the last 11 weeks, but you'll be able to use doge in a few hours or more (depends of your internet connection really) I think there's a client which doesn't require downloading the whole blockchain, so you might want to use that if you don't have any coins already EDIT : here
The blockchain is massive now so it takes a while to download and verify. If you're just trying to get started, you should check out http://multidoge.org for a "thin" client that does not require the huge blockchain download.
http://multidoge.org is a lightweight client that doesn't need to download the full blockchain. If you don't have any doge in your wallet yet, you can just use this. If you have coins in dogecoin-qt (even thoguh it is not synced), I can explain how to export them into multidoge.
Multidoge is on the right fork btw, it automatically uses the longest chain.
Here's the cut'n'paste I try to help people with on /r/dogeducation -- maybe it will help you a bit, too:
If your computer is very slow and/or your network connection very shoddy, you may be better off using an online wallet rather than having a local wallet.
Especially while you have only a little bit of doge, security is less of an issue and the extra convenience of the online wallet (such as never having to sync) may outweigh other concerns. If (when!) you get many doge, you can still have an online wallet for smaller, day-to-day transactions and keep the big numbers in a local wallet.
There's actually a different wallet program in beta, MultiDoge (http://multidoge.org/) that is much more lightweight and syncs much faster. However, you cannot import the wallet.dat from QT to Multidoge, so you would need to create a new wallet in MultiDoge and then transfer your doge from the old wallet to the new one.
Yep!
Quickest way that isn't a direct trade that I've found:
Sign up for Coinbase
Download a Dogecoin wallet; I use Multidoge
Buy Litecoin on Coinbase with a credit card (Visa/Mastercard)
Using Shapeshift, transfer your Litecoin from your Coinbase wallet to your Multidoge wallet
Buckle up and put on your space helmet, we're going to the moon
I think that you might run the old version and thats the problem.
What icon does your client have? Blue one http://multidoge.org/images/MultiDoge.png ? Or this brownish one http://dogecoin.com/imgs/dogecoin-300.png?
Hey /u/Gploli,
yes you have to create a backup in order to keep your doges!
Official how to create a backup of my MultiDoge wallet.
So basically it says, that you need to make a backup of your wallet.dat; this file is your wallet, don't lose it or you'll lose your wallet!
After you have reset your computer, you can install MultiDoge again and replace the new wallet.dat with your backup.
Hope this helps!
Cheers
Ah, and have some doges!

The market, literally. They decide how much a coin is worth.
If the 1.8 wallet is taking that long to sync try the multidoge wallet shibe. It syncs very fast (like wow fast) and works great!
Download the one that applies to your operating system at the top of the page. :)
I've heard people say syncing heats up their computer before. I don't know why that would happen. You can use multidoge which is a lite wallet that doesn't need to sync. I would let the one you have sync up first tho. If you think your computer is at risk, turn it off and clean out all the dust from the fans and vents with compressed air, that's the only reason I can think for it to overheat while syncing. 7 weeks behind will take awhile but it shouldnt take more than an hour or two i wouldnt think. How long has it been so far? You can monitor temps with a program called speedfan to make sure they are in a safe range. +/u/dogetipbot 98 doge
You won't see recent transactions until that sync is fully completed.
If you can't abide this, a lightweight client such as MultiDoge may be more appropriate for you, as it can operate without having to do a whole major sync.
Use MultiDoge. It's a lite wallet. You don't have to download the blockchain, so it loads almost instantly. (Its not an online wallet. Its just as secure as the regular desktop wallet, it stores the private keys on your computer as well.)
Also, I don't suggest using Cryptsy. There have been some pretty big problems with them lately. I suggest Prelude.io (Its an exchange run by the company who held the funds for Doge4Nascar. Very trustworthy)
Makes sense :) for future reference there's a wallet called Multidoge that only takes a minute or two to sync the first time, instead of a couple hours. If you've got friends who want to try it out, I'd suggest that to them. You can send them some of these :) +/u/dogetipbot 3000 doge
It really depends on the speed of your connection. Expect 5+ hours and up to 24 hours. (Some users had to wait 48 hours before..)
If you are not willing to wait that long opt for a lightweight wallet like MultiDoge (http://multidoge.org/) or the Android app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.langerhans.wallet&hl=en) instead.
Yes its actually a bit more friendly because you don't have to wait long times to sync. the process to backup is a bit different though, since the wallet uses multibit as its base you can refer to this:
http://multibit.org/help_contents.html (edit: didn't notice that multidoge has its own FAQ as well can be found here: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_walletBackups.html)

MD has two types of files of interest to you, which you want to make sure you have copies of.
The .wallet files are the wallet databases it uses, and the .key files are exported keys in text format. As detailed in the help files: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html
You should check if that .key file is encoded. If it is, you will need to decode it. You should also check with https://coinb.in/#settings if the keys are valid. After selecting the Doge network, go to New Transaction and instead of the address, put the key in the source field and hit Load. Check that the address it calculates matches what you expect, and that the coins in the mining fee field are the total you expect.
If this is correct, you have your key, and you can store it in a plain, ordinary text file. You don't need the client at all.
And if you have copies of those two files stored safely, you can go ahead and reinstal MD if you like. Let it sync and you can then quit and swap the .wallet for your backup.
But I really wouldn't persevere with the client once you have your keys out of it.
Do read the ELI5s. And maybe some of my history, as I've described how to manage wallets manually several times.
Sorry it took so long responding, this got lost in my messages!
I am trying to figure out the version because the data you have posted here, seems to be a bit less than what comes out for most people now.
Were there any errors you were given at the time you exported them, that you can remember?
I had this happen several times, just took me finding where my wallet was stored on my hard drive. Check out this link for assistance: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_support_missingWallets.html
Or you can just import your private key:
Exporting the private keys from the wallet QT
Open the QT wallet.
click on 'help' in the menu bar (top right)
click on 'debug window'
select the 'console' tab
type: walletpassphrase "your walletpassphrase here" 600
type: dumpprivkey [your public key here]
this will return the private key, you can copy it now; ensure you clear your clipboard/history afterwards
Import the private keys to the multidoge
http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_importingPrivateKeys.html
Open your wallet, let it sync. It may take a while (some hours, maybe). If you want the light wallet that syncs much faster, try multidoge, which is the wallet I use.
To get started, check the "getting started" at the right side of this page.
And take this as a token of my friendship: +/u/dogetipbot 100 doge verify
Now youre are one of us!
ok here are instructions:
1) download multidoge here and this
2) open the IMPORT THIS.key with TextEdit (on a mac) or Notepad (on windows)
3) replace PASTE_PRIVATE_KEY_HERE with your private key that is on your wallet and save it
4) in multidoge go to Tools > Import Private Key and then wait for it to import
you should be done (may have to let it sync which wont take long.... at most a minute or two)
You can try to reset blockchain and transactions.
Then multidoge will try to sync everything from the beginning - which may be a slow sync. But in the end you should have your balance corrected.
If this doesn't work.. Try the rest of the solutions from here
Good luck!

DogeCoin...such cloning. You can't name anything unique because there isn't anything.
The three sites you mentioned once again trade other coins and have nothing to do with DogeCoin other than being just another coin option. Also, those sites are VERY sketchy and have established little trust.
You mention confirmation bias a lot. I think you really need to work on your own as you're resorting to hyperbole and falsehoods like Multidoge being a true DogeCoin project.
As far as DogeCoin development goes, we can simply look at the commits on github. The last one was, "Capitalization of "Dogecoin" but not "dogecoind". You can't make that kind of shit up. All the other recent commits were the same ones LiteCoin made once the heartbleed ssl patch became available.
DogeCoin's motto should be, "Such Hijacking. Much Clone." That's not hateraid--that's truth.
Use Multidoge. This is the new Dogecoin wallet that allows you to create multiple wallets.
^I ^am ^a ^shibe ^that ^is ^a ^robot, ^and ^this ^message ^was ^sent ^automatically. ^Woof!
Hey man,
If you don't want to store the chain locally, you can use this new wallet called Multidoge (http://multidoge.org/) - It's an open source wallet from the codebase of Multibit. (https://multibit.org/) It's a much better wallet because it stores the chain on the network so that you do not have to synchronize with the network if you don't open the wallet client for awhile.
I'm new to mining as well so I thought this would help you like it helped me. :)
Are you trying to recover coins? Or is this an empty wallet that you are trying to install? If you are unsure about how the wallet will handle your conis when upgrading, then I recommend sending your coins to a different wallet, like DogeVault or DogeAPI. Then, after you install your new wallet, you can just send your coins to the desktop wallet.
As far as your error, I really don't know what's going on. Something crazy happened, is basically what that means. (details below.) What I can recommend to you is (1) backup coins if you have not already, (2) keep trying what you are trying, with uninstalling and reinstalling, and maybe (3) try a different wallet app like MultiDoge.
Godspeed shibe!
(if you are interested in the details of the error, technically there is an "assertion," which means, check something is happening. then it describes where something went wrong, and apparently the forked process was null. That's all the error message tells us. I assume that it is a symptom of something else that is wrong, like maybe needing administrator privileges or maybe being on an incompatible version of Windows. But those are shots in the dark; I don't know why that error happened.)
Go to Users/App Data/Roaming/Dogecoin and cpoy/paste your wallet.dat file so this way you'll have a back-up of your wallet anytime.
If you want to be able to use your dogecoin wallet directly from a USB stick on any PC with internet connection, then there is only one way: download Multidoge (Multidoge is a lightwight wallet that doesn't downloads the blockchain to your computer, instead it is downloaded to a few servers world-wide and your wallet is synced with that servers, making a huge storage space economy this way) from here: http://multidoge.org/ and then follow the instructions here: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_runFromUSBDrive.html to get Multidoge installed and ready to use from anywhere, and then just send the dogecoins from your dogecoin-qt wallet to your Multidoge wallet through a simple transcation. NOTE: you can't use a dogecoin-qt wallet with Multidoge.
Hope thsi helps! To the moon!
The reason the wallet takes so long is because it is downloading the public ledger. This ledger keeps track of all dogecoin transactions and is open to everyone.
If you do not want to download the giant public ledger, feel free to check out light wallets. MultiDoge does not download the entire public ledger. So you can skip the long syncing process.
Litewallets are wallets that do not need to download the block chain.
MultiBit is the Bitcoin one and MultiDoge is the Dogecoin port of it. There are two others for Bitcoin, but MultiBit is the one I know of and use.
These allow you to use your wallet without needing to download the entire blockchain ever again.
First and second point I can understand, but what is the problem with Java? I seriously do not understand the hate on Java.
Our Lite wallet is java based but ported directly from your MultiBit wallet, which is Java based. MultiDoge is the exact same as yours so it is hardly going 'backwards'.
Good News!
Currently a few solutions to this have been implemented. They are called light wallets, meant to eventually replace the system of downloading the entire blockchain. MultiDoge is one that you might look into. It hasn't been widely accepted as it is still fairly new, but I suspect that this wallet or others may soon become the standard.
So fear not! There are many shibes dedicated to solving issues that dogecoin will face and shoot it to the moon. :)
The first sync can take up to 2 days depending on your connection speed.
Check out one of the slim/leightweight clients if you do not want to sync 3-4GB of data:
if you don't want to keep updating the wallet (another update might be incoming I think) just use a litewallet like http://multidoge.org/ or the android dogewallet if you have an android phone.
They both sync to the longest chain automatically so you don't have to worry about versions/forks. Also you don't need to download the whole blockchain either.
http://multidoge.org is a lightweight wallet which also can import private keys.
Edit: Also, you can import your private keys to dogecoin-qt while it is syncing, you just won't see the transactions until you have downloading the blocks that contain them.
Several things to comment on that little quip. :)
First, the wallet only has to do a full sync when it is freshly installed. Any time you launch it after, it will only need to catch up with the transactions that have happened since you had it open last. So I am sure you can see why it matters little to people who have it open all the time.
Second, if your computer is very slow and/or your network connection very shoddy, you may be better off using an online wallet rather than having a local wallet.
Third, there's actually a different wallet program in beta, MultiDoge (http://multidoge.org/) that is much more lightweight and syncs much faster. However, you cannot transfer the wallet.dat from QT to Multidoge, so you would need to create a new wallet in MultiDoge and then transfer your doge from the old wallet to the new one.
You can use the online version of a wallet at Dogevault.com or try the litewallet.
You could also erase what you have (if you don't have any coins in the wallet), re-download QtT 1.51 and start over.
So, when you let your wallet sync up during Mahjong and sleeping, it was essentially downloading the entire blockchain. This process usually takes me overnight.
There's a new block every minute, so every minute that your wallet is disconnected means a new block you have to get. Luckily blocks are really really small. For example, I haven't opened the dogecoin wallet since yesterday, and it took about a minute to sync and connect. My computer is only a few years old though, for a 8 year old computer I would definately explore multidoge 0.1.0. It was just released, and it lets you manage a wallet without syncing the full blockchain.
My friend uses BTC on a netbook, and multibit was the only thing that ran very well. I have no problem with the standard wallet running in the background, but an older PC might.

To get your DogeCoin wallet code simply go to http://dogecoin.com and download the DogeCoin client for the OS you are on.
After downloading the wallet it can take a long time for the client to sync up to date. Just be patient and soon enough you will have your Dogecoin wallet.
If you do not wish to wait for the Wallet client to sync, there are alternatives.
You can either use a lite wallet such as http://multidoge.org which works similarly to the standard wallet available at dogecoin.com except it does not have to sync, making it more hassle-free. However, some people prefer the interface of the original dogecoin client.
Another option is to use a online wallet such as Dogechain.info. Online wallets are generally less secure, but have many more benefits including, they are easier to use and setup, can be accessed from any computer reduces risk of wallet loss and always up to sync. Now to you can buy and store your dogecoin in wallet.
>My wallet looks stuck at 0 dogecoin as I tried various faucet to ensure that my wallet worked before buying some.
Faucets are not instant payout in majority. So the funds sent from them will not show up if at all until days later in most cases.
Make sure you are sync'd Funds did not show, oh nos!
You are not supposed to use faucets with MD anyways. In fact this is a warned about before you even download it, it is also mentioned in the client. Do not use MD with faucets
MD is a light wallet. Light wallets skim the blockchain for related transactions to your addresses. Transactions from mining payouts, faucets, some tipbots, and even some exchanges are created from several smaller transactions, which have higher inputs/outputs than standard transactions. Given the nature of the functionality of light wallets, there is a higher likelihood of the wallet itself crashing while attempting to manage these sorts of transactions.
In fullest most likely thing, the faucet you have picked has not sent out the actual coins yet. This or you are not fully synced.
You don't need to open the program to backup your wallet, run %appdata% and find multidoge's folder, backup the wallet file from there. You can also try these steps to locate it:
http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_troubleshooting.html
Try un-install and re-install Multidoge, it will not delete the wallet file, but you can copy it another place to be safe.
Locations found here:
http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_troubleshooting.html
Note "[APPDATA]/MultiDoge. Windows (7,8): C:\Documents and Settings\jim\AppData\Roaming\MultiDoge" is wrong, it should be "[APPDATA]/MultiDoge. Windows (7,8): C:\users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\MultiDoge"
Unfortunately I can't figure it out either. It seems like the site used to support doge (or will in the future)? Given you can select it at #Settings, but all the other screens are locked to bitcoin.
If you are willing to use desktop software, the MultiDoge client is pretty user friendly and straightforward. Just means you have to stay synced to the blockchain.
Export the Private Key from MultiDoge Wallet and import it into Dogecoin Core :)
See here: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html
Btw if it's taking too long for you too download the Blockchain you can download a Part of the Blockchain manually here: https://bootstrap.chain.so
Have fun with your shibes and stay safe my friend
>What do you mean by never open?
Erroring out at launch due to being unable to compile and manage the transactions it is supposed to, due to the bloat.
>Like the coins would be lost?
No wallets hold coins, they only hold keys needed to access the coins. So no coins are lost, just a bit harder to access them. So long as you have the related data then getting the keys is easy in most cases.
>Like the client wouldn't open?
Yup, or stalls out and hangs endlessly.
>Can I pull the private keys from multidoge and use those as a backup in case it wonks out?
Oh ok that would explain it. When I go to this main site and hit the download, it still says 1.7 on the exe. Where do u get the updated version? This is where I've been going. http://multidoge.org/?dl=win
If I am not mistaken .wallet
is used within multidoge. Download it here at : http://multidoge.org/
and try to import that .wallet
there from the menu.
If you have some problem ask, will try to help if I understand the issue
Download multidoge from here : http://multidoge.org/
After you have successfully install it, go to FILE -> OPEN WALLET and chose your .wallet
file that you have as backup
.
2.
Now tools - > Export private key ->type name/where you want to save it -> scroll down and chose DO NOT PASSWORD PROTECT.
.
3.
now find that .key
file that you have created open it up with text editor and copy the private key. You will see lines that begin with hashtag (#) , you don't want to look for those. You want the one that is without hashtag, this one is a long string of numbers/digits copy it.
.
a4.
In the Dogecoin Core client go to HELP -> DEBUG WINDOW -> CONSOLE. Now here type this:
importprivkey pasteHere
the string that you have previously copied, just paste it and hit enter
You should be able to see your address now. If you have more than one addresses you will need to repeat this step for all of them to import them into Core. Check balance on the https://chain.so/ and if it shows that you have your coins you are good. You will need to sync with the network to be able to see your coins in the Dogecoin Core, don't be afraid if it doesn't show your right balance at the beginning.
>What I am really thinking about is some kind of remote blockchain so one does not have the hassle to maintain their own dogecoind.
This is largely what SPV does, only with a more secure "light" wallet. See MultiDoge. It uses a wallet in what is conceived to be the most secure way possible, while having a less secure centralized blockchain source. Dogecoin is short on light wallets and really could use one for Android in my opinion.
>I am still trying to figure out what exactly would be unique with that kind of service that it does not exist yet.
That was my explanation of what seems to be the service you are thinking about. I know several projects, across many coins, are struggling to pay nearly $10 per month on a virtual private server to just to run a backend wallet listening for remote RPC commands. It seems a service could specialize in hosting wallets and save on costs by having many segregated instances of each coin for subscribed users and devising a way to share a single copy of the block chain for each coin.
Feel free to hit me up with questions all you'd like. I'm also on Freenode #dogecoin most of the time.
The Dogecoin core wallet is adding support for block chain pruning, but I don't think it is fully ready. Your best solution is to use a "light", "thin", or "Simplified Payment Verification (SPV) mode" Dogecoin wallet.
Unlike Dogecoin core, these types of wallets forgo some security for the ability to work without synchronizing the blockchain from the actual Dogecoin network, skip lots of block validation, and or without needing a copy of the whole blockchain. You must trust the wallet and the website/trusted-node it connects to not to feed you invalid information about transactions. Unlike a web wallet, you keep control of your wallet address's private keys, but you get your transaction/balance history information from a more centralized source that requires some trust.
The only one listed on the Dogecoin website is MultiDoge, which is a Dogecoin wallet based on the pretty popular MultiBit Bitcoin thin wallet.
I can't open the wallet, is there any way to get the key out of wallet file itself without opening it in multidoge?
I looked at http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html but the link they have for detailed technical information about the file format At the bottom is a broken link
Well. You can always mine for them, but you normally have to invest quite a bit of money to even profit a little. I'd recommend using a faucet rotator if you want some quick Dogecoin for free. There is always tasks and giveaways on /r/Dogecoin and /r/DogeMarket as well. Block.IO is a good online wallet for storing Dogecoin and other crypto-currencies, but if you'd like to keep your Dogecoin stored locally, you can use MultiDoge for a quick and easy setup process. The Dogecoin Core application normally takes a while to sync with the network so I wouldn't recommend that in your case ;)
You can use MultiDoge :) http://multidoge.org/
You have two options for move your Dogecoins.
Try installing multidoge and import your current wallet file to that just to be sure that it's not corrupted. http://multidoge.org/?dl=win
If you can't get it working with the core wallet then you may just have to send from your old wallet on multidoge to a fresh one in the core wallet.
Not sure... You can just click the hyperlinked '+accept' and send and that should do the trick. But if that doesn't work... Maybe you need a wallet first, I suggest multidoge if you're not planning to mine dogecoins.
You can also make a dogetipbod-account manually here and connect it to your wallet's adress (example what my adress looks like: DB887dpcFcbBqGVeECnExjEnsRCPytKADh).
>It is actually going to cost more because you are going to have to pay the miners an extra 1 dogecoin for every transaction under 1 dogecoin.
http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_whatIsTheTransactionFee.html
It's based on the block size, not the amount. You pay 1 doge per 1kb in a transaction.
Example: https://dogechain.info/tx/8e570b4daf7387ca933de791207802a2f5c651255fed43408d54f702982a8cbd
The size: 15,087 bytes (15 kb). The fee: 15 for the first 15,000 bytes, and 1 doge for the additional 87 bytes.
Edit: if you want to get real technical, you don't even have to pay a tx fee. It's just to entice miners to include your tx in the next block just in case the total size is over 100kb or something (it's happened once or twice on selling panics in bitcoin and the 10min blocktime)
Edit 2: So it is. Well, I don't know then.
If you don't want to use the core release multidoge is pretty good, http://multidoge.org/ and there is also now the electrum wallet (https://electrum-doge.org/ which was up yesterday, but it looks like it's gone back to "coming soon" status)
You'll have to re download them if you want to use the qt-client. On the other hand you could use something like http://multidoge.org/ which would save you a lot of space as it doesn't download blocks.
There is not -- MultiDoge doesn't offer a method of importing from the reference client.
You could try bootstrapping dogecoin-qt so that the reference client finishes syncing much sooner. Be aware, the bootstrap file is at least 5.4 GIGAbytes.
As stated in the multidoge troubleshooting page:
http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_troubleshooting.html
The location of your multidoge folder should be:
In OSX the user Library directory is normally hidden.
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/3104/os-x-show-hidden-files-and-folders-in-mac-os-x-finder/
Follow the show hidden files instructions to reveal it in the Finder.
OSX 10.4 & lower: [user.home]/Library/Application Support/MultiDoge.
OSX 10.5+: /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/MultiDoge
You should have a backup of the the wallet in the multidoge folder as stated here:
http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_fileDescriptions.html
and it should be in the:
saving-data/wallet-unenc-backup = A directory containing your unencrypted wallet backups.
So, in ending you should find a working unencrypted copy of your missing "saving.wallet" file at:
OSX 10.4 & lower: [user.home]/Library/Application Support/MultiDoge/saving-data/wallet-unenc-backup/saving.wallet [xxx.wallet]
OSX 10.5+: /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/MultiDoge/saving-data/wallet-unenc-backup/saving.wallet [xxx.wallet]

Hopefully, even if your main .wallet file is corrupted you should have an unencrypted wallet backup in your drive_letter:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\multidoge\saving-data\wallet-unenc-backup.
Now while multidoge is not running, copy your entire multidoge folder to another location. Then copy the multidoge.wallet or saving.wallet from multidoge\saving-data\wallet-unenc-backup to the multidoge folder and overwrite the multidoge.wallet or saving.wallet file.
Now run Multidoge and you should have access to your wallet again.

Use multidoge wallet. Put a password in it, with at least 12 digits. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR WALLET.

Yes. Only invest what you can afford to lose. This will be a wild ride but you need to look at the higher picture. Even btc was small once.

That's a link to the dogetipbot. It's safe. When you accept, an account is set up related to your reddit account, so it's as safe as your reddit password. Once you do that, you can use any Doge in your account to tip others (Dogecoin is considered THE tipping currency), or when you have enough, you can withdraw it to your own wallet.
Here's a link to the accepted "light" wallet: multidoge.org
I keep some in my reddit account for tipping, and some in my Multidoge wallet. There are other wallets that are online, but these are not recommended as they are the frequent target of hacks.
For some friendly information, here is the link to the Dogecoin reddit. r/dogecoin The community is very friendly, which seems to be a factor in its success.
Hello, newfriend. First, try downloading multidoge, which is the wallet I use. ENCRYPT YOUR WALLET. PUT A PASSWORD IN IT.
To get started, check the "getting started" at the right side of this page. = >

Open your wallet, let it sync. It may take a while (some hours, maybe). If you want the light wallet that syncs much faster, try multidoge, which is the wallet I use.

For some reason, it isn't connecting to the peers. Since I'm running the same wallet (v1.7.1.0-ge362de3 (64-bit), right?) I can tell you that I set mine up last night and had no problems with the default settings except windows wanted to block it automatically.
Check this page out. It will speed up getting the blockchain.
I am assuming that you are wanting to use this wallet for mining or a similar good reason. If you don't particularly need the core and the huge blockchain, one of the light wallets like MultiDoge is easier to get started with.
Exporting the wallet.dat is what you are looking for, and you should keep it as an offline backup after the import anyway. I think multidoge has no wallet import feature. See this page, especially the last sentence: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_importingPrivateKeys.html
if you do not mind your addresses getting lost (and for security reasons), simply install multidoge, generate an address and send all your coins to it. Doing it this way is more secure in case somebody might have access to your wallet for whatever reason (virus, trojan, etc).
In case you want to use the original client again: simply run the new installation, after it completely syncs, close it, replace the new wallet.dat with your backup and start it again. It will now rescan the blockchain (probably takes 30 minutes or more) and you are good to go again.
These instructions are in case you use the original client currently.
If you still know the address(es) which were in use in your wallet, you may also want to check them at the bitinfochartswebsite http://bitinfocharts.com/dogecoin/
There's the QT wallet, MultiDoge and WowDoge. If you don't want to load blocks everytime you start your wallet (like it looks like), your best bet would be a lightwallet like MultiDoge or WowDoge. MultiDoge is the most popular lightwallet and is linked to from dogecoin.com. But WowDoge has some cool features like being able to import a private key to your wallet with the help of your webcam.
The best thing to do would be to have a look at the two and see which one you like best based on their features, UI, etc. :)
EDIT: When it's ready, change to Electrum for Doge because that will be the best light wallet out there :)
addon? what addon? there isn't any addon necessary to accept the tip, dogetipbot obfuscates everything and you communicate with it via PM. Just reply to him when he PM's you about the tip with +accept and you take possession of the coins, done and done. If you want to send them somewhere, you say:
+/u/dogetipbot @(address) (quantity) doge
for example:
+/u/dogetipbot @vapingatfifty 500 doge
and I just tipped you 500 doge.
I could also tip a full dogecoin address with @address (quantity) so if you wanted to set up a local wallet (like multidoge) and back up your wallet or put the coins in cold storage you could send them to the local wallet.
Dogetipbot will soon be expanding to allow tips from reddit to be sent to other places like twitch or twitter, and vice verse.
All in all it's pretty low effort, I think you should accept this one tho it's a few more than 3 bucks :)
The app is an online wallet as it is connected to the Internet - think of it like any other client (e.g. MultiDoge).
A wallet is just a collect of public/private addresses, where as an offline paper wallet is purely a single public/private address combination. I think of it more as a safe that you deposit coins to, and one day you'll redeem them (...to get to the moon!).
This video helped me understand the concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6ASjF2Ksyk
MultiDoge works a bit different. It generates the keys on demand. So everytime you add a new receiving address, you should backup your wallet. More explanation on the file formats right here: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_fileDescriptions.html
This help page: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_walletBackups.html basically explains what backups aren what you do with them. It then points you to this: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html where the process is outlined :)
(Help pages are directly in the programm implemented too)
I think the easiest way to get started to where you can receive and send Dogecoin is just to download a wallet.
And go to a Dogecoin faucet (Google it), In the wallet you'll have a wallet address which allows others to send Doge to you so if you copy it and go to the faucet and paste it in. Enter a captcha and they'll send your wallet some free Doge!
Yes :) Look here for details. Basically you need a wallet, which is super easy to create, and then you can ask dogetipbot to send your doges to your electronic wallet.

It looks like your software is set to do automatic backups to specific directories, per this link. It looks like by default, these are backed up in a sub-directory of your normal wallet directory. I'd expect there's a Preference setting where you can change it to somewhere else, like a Dropbox folder.
Ah, I see. You do realise that the Dogecoin-QT wallet downloads the entire blockchain, yes? About 3Gb, and many many hours to synchronise. You would be better off with either of the 'Lite' wallets from http://wowdoge.org or http://multidoge.org
You can also get a few online wallets, just don't keep much in there, in the interests of safety, since they could possibly be hacked and your coins stolen. http://cointipping.com allows you to send/receive funds by email, and the tipbot here will hold funds for you as well. Any of the addresses can be used at will to transfer funds around.
+/u/dogetipbot 9.8 doge sorry its not more, I'm temporarily a little short. ;)
You're welcome!
I tipped you 100 Dogecoins, the currency we were talking about. It has real-world value, just like Bitcoin, Litecoin and any other cryptocurrency, and is the third most popular cryptocurrency in the world. That Ð100 tip is currently worth about $0.05. (Ð is the symbol for dogecoin. You can type it on Windows by holding the alt key and pressing 0, 2, 0, 8 on the number pad.)
Check out http://www.reddit.com/r/dogetipbot/wiki/index for info on how to withdraw the coins I just tipped you to a real Dogecoin wallet.
The people over at /r/dogecoin are ridiculously friendly (it's seriously one of the friendliest communities on Reddit) and will answer any questions you have. There are also links to various resources in the sidebar and on the wiki.
Edit: And I'd be more than happy to help you get set up with a wallet if you have any problems. I'd personally recommend Multidoge, a third-party dogecoin wallet that's a bit easier to use than the standard one.
From http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_movingAWallet.html :
"Locate 'multidoge.wallet' - the location appears in the title bar when you select the wallet in MultiDoge"
I downloaded MultiDoge to test and can confirm that works.
Switch to multidoge. I've had problems on my Windows PC with the blockchain just murdering my CPU. I have this weird 3-core AMD thing in there, it's pretty anxious to shut down at the first sign of heat.
You're right I think there is just the one build of the wallet, sorry. Not really a solution to the problem, but there is a lite wallet available that doesn't need to sync, you could try multidoge wallet
Feel free to link directly and send people over to it, if you'd like.
That site will only get better with time, as I both improve the wording, spread it out so it's more comfortable to read and easier to follow, and possibly add some big improvements to it.
I would suggest you consider telling people to use MultiDoge rather than Dogecoin-QT, because the Paper Wallet Experience is a lot easier over there than it is on QT.
They would still have to do the fiddly Step Zero to get the Privkey in to the inside of their PC, but it's a bunch simpler after that.
I have plans on adding Clever Stuff to the DogePaper site to let you do QR scanning right there and "download" your ".key" file directly (it would actually all run local to your PC, with the privkey never touching the web server at all), which would then make MultiDoge a significantly nicer and easier option for paper wallet recipients.
(Plus, as MultiDoge is a Lightweight client, you don't have to wait for it to sync up the Entire Freaking Blockchain, which is another annoyance to new shibes!)
That was sent directly to the donation account. Here's some to use for yourself.

The bot will send you a message asking you to accept the coins. Once you do they'll be deposited into account kept on reddit. If you'd like to withdraw them to your own computer download a wallet like http://multidoge.org.
There's a starter guide on how to use the tipbot here: http://www.reddit.com/r/dogetipbot/wiki/gettingstarted
http://dogecointutorial.com will give you a ton of information and if you want to talk to some helpful users head over to /r/dogeducation.
If you have general questions feel free to post in /r/dogecoin for more information.

>Still haven't updated my wallet, still getting 11db errors.
>All I've done is make a backup of my wallet.dat file, not sure what the next step is.
OK! You are in good shape. The valuable part of your wallet.dat is your private key. Your PUBLIC key is your regular Doge address that lets people send you money. The PRIVATE key, on the other hand, is secret. That key is what lets you spend your Dogecoins!
The private key is just a number, like the public key/address. Try to open the wallet.dat in notepad and see what it looks like. It should just be like 687hf438h7238h7f8oh7387wgfho845g87y or some such nonsense. Remember, this is secret; it allows you access to your dogecoins. But, if I had access to it, then I would have access to your dogecoins!
I would recommend trying to import that private key into another app, for instance MultiDoge, and then abandoning the 1.3 app. Usually, the easiest way to transfer coins is just to send them to a different wallet, like MultiDoge or dogevault. However, since something is screwy with your application, I would take a shot at importing the private key. If you are able to import the private key, then the app and the dogecoin network will allow you to access your coins.
Here is the download page for MultiDoge. It will take maybe half an hour to synchronize, but since it is a "light" wallet, is does not download the whole blockchain. Downloading the whole blockchain via the regular deskopt app will take hours because the blockchain is about 3GB.
Here is the help page on importing a key into MultiDoge. Note, I have done this successfully once, but MultiDoge might not do the trick and you might have to try with the full desktop wallet.
How does that sound? I know it's a lot of info. Hopefully you can pull some useful pearls of wisdom out of my post.
See how many peers are connected by putting your mouse over the icon (here).
You should be getting 8 connected peers. To allow more connections you need to access your router by going to http://192.168.1.1 and forwarding port 22556 to the internal IP address of the machine running QT (eg. 192.168.1.3) ...
Still I don't know if this will solve your problem if your connection is too slow. As someone suggested you might be better off trying a light client like MultiDoge.
Leaving a few notes about this process here: http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_runFromUSBDrive.html
If you have it running from USB, you can delete the old data, yes. But please make sure you have it backed up in more than one place. Regular private key exports are the way to go. Especially while USB sticks can break far more orften then a HDD or SSD in my experience :)
Send me a private message if you have any trouble receiving those coins. But have a read here first and you can set up a private wallet (to send coins to) on your computer here: http://multidoge.org/
Aside from that, enjoy the doge community and don't forget to spread some of that coin around ;)
Yup, they're still working on paper wallets.
Actually, looking at the multidoge explanation of their exported key file you could possibly replicate it yourself from your paper wallet private key. It might be more difficult than just loading into qt-wallet and transferring all to your multidoge address.
There's a different wallet program in beta, MultiDoge (http://multidoge.org/) that is much more lightweight and syncs much faster. However, you cannot import the wallet.dat from QT to Multidoge, so you would need to create a new wallet in MultiDoge and then transfer your doge from the old wallet to the new one.
Ah No problem bud
Check out http://multidoge.org/ And download the lite wallet, It wont take long to sync. Basically you have 2 Addresses. And i have sent 100 Coins to your reddit address. So What you'll have to do, is send the /u/dogetipbot a message saying +Register
After that its pretty straight forward.
Withdrawing your Doge is easy
Simply message the tipbot +withdraw YOUR ADDRESS AMOUNT DOGECOIN
Amount can be replaced for ALL if you dont know your amount.
Great round up for our newcomer.
+/u/dogetipbot 25 doge verify
One note on wallets: http://multidoge.org isn't listed on dogecoin.com but it's a nice wallet which doesn't require 4-5 days of blockchain syncing for new shibe. I'd go with that one.
so, it can't import from private key from generated paper wallet? i mean private key not from scan barcode .
i tried using this method,http://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_importASingleKey.html
but number of key zero.
