I played this game recently using the rewind feature of Nestopia. It instantly opens up the game to being a much more accessible experience. Just pretend that Link starts the game with the item from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
I found that this actually applies to most other NES games as well.
Emulation.
Download nestopia, which will allow you to run NES ROMs. ROMs are the games, essentially.
I'll let you source the specific ROM yourself (Google should be sufficient), and don't worry about legal ramifications: it's the greyest of areas, and nobody really objects too strongly.
Have fun!
The Battle for Wesnoth is a good turn-based strategy game, and is free (there's a paid port for iOS, but it's the same game). Civ IV is also a great strategy game, but it's not free. Dwarf Fortress has a huge cult following, but if you don't have access to the internet for tutorials, you'll never be able to understand it. I'd also recommend getting an emulator and playing through a bunch of classics. If memory serves me, NEStopia works great for macs.
Edit: I forgot to mention N (a rather difficult platformer).
For many years, I used Nestopia for PC emulation. But I now use MiSTer for cycle-accurate replication.
And I still enjoy my original near-mint NES with socketed PPU and GPU chips, a disabled 10NES chip, a refurbished 72-pin connector, and all-new Nichicon capacitors.
I also have an Everdrive N8 Pro for easy access to the full NES and Famicom libraries, including hacks.
http://nestopia.sourceforge.net try that idk if it works though don't own a PC. Strictly tablet and cell phone on my end give it a shot thought... And if that doesn't work... Try http://www.freeroms.com/nes.htm its the site I get my ROMs off of... Emulators from here should definitely work
i actually think downloading an emulator and games for it is the best. That way no matter how bad the internet is, you can still play some classic games.
personally i like playing Penguin Kun Wars on the NES.
