I can't recommend Ombi enough. It totally automates the request process. I have a few users that have auto authorization. Otherwise I just manually search for whatever has been requested. Once completed I mark them available and remove the request.
Ha wish I built it.

Solid bot! I like it better than Ombi personally because its faster for me.
Just in case youd like Ombi better though…
Its a website that connects to those apps and you can request media.
Throw in a dash of Ombi so others in your household (wink) can easily add to the library themselves…
Then realise you’re now running an essential service and can’t afford downtime…
End up in /r/Homelab and decide to build a high-availability cluster…
Which eats up all the money you saved from not subscribing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Use this https://ombi.io allows them to request movies and also report problems had mine runningfor a couple of years and it works really well, it uses plex authentication so your friends wont need to setup another account
I use an app called Ombi to handle requests. It doesn't actually do anything to get the movies, but is a front end for users to make requests, and allows you manage things as you want. You can give users various rights ("Admin", "Auto Approve", "Request", etc.). if Auto Approve is not set for a user, then their requests have to be approved before it sends it to the app to process the request.
Look into ombi. It's made to allow others to make requests, but it sounds like it would work well for your use case too. You still need to punch a hole in your firewall to login remotely to ombi if you want, but you can hide radarr and sonarr internally.
Ombi is a service that allows you to manage requests from users for the server. There are also integrations for services like Radarr, Sonarr, CouchPotato, etc. It does have to run on a computer, but does not have to be the same device that server is running from.
There’s a few options
Ombi - Most popular, you host it and it connects to your Radarr/Sonarr and takes requests. Not bad, it’s kind of slow for me but I have a big library.
Requestrr - By far my favorite. It’s a Discord bot that you trigger by saying !tv show name
or !movie movie name
IMDb or another kind of List - I also have my cousin make a list that adds movies
VPN - I mean if you trust them give them access to your vpn, I wouldn’t do it but whatever.
Reverse Proxy - Some people use reverse proxy and push their Sonarr, Radarr, and Lidarr out to the world. Yeah fuck that. I’d never push any site out that can erase my whole library.
Don't you know Ombi? Is the new name for Plex Requests.
Is a web application where users can submit requests for new movies/shows or submit issues for existing files.
More info here: https://ombi.io/
No. These are all separate self-hosted programs that run on Linux (or windows if needed) that basically connect to one another and allow stuff to be grabbed from the "best" source. They're web apps that allow you to grab movies/tvshows from the internet.
Radarr is for Movies
Sonarr is for TV shows
I don't use Transmission but do use Jackett alongside qbittorrent to index the lists of available files and send off the info to qbittorrent to then eventually drop it on the media server.
If you're familiar with docker, this is the video I followed to get something similar working in my setup.
The only difference I made is that I got Ombi as the front head to allow people to view a "nicer" UI look to go through looking for whatever they want and that connects to Sonarr and Radarr to communicate getting the media.
If you are up for selfhosted way, you might want to check Ombi (https://ombi.io/). In plex+sonarr+radarr stack it allows to request movies and shows.
There are plenty of how-tos to install the stack.
>I've been wanting to setup Sonarr and Radarr, are these what you typically use if you want family to be able to request a particular thing?
Sonarr and Radarr checks torrent indexes (Are they called indexes?) if a monitored movie/show is available for download.
Monitored movies are manually added by you.
You can automate the requests by using something like Ombi. It also supports user accounts.
*Arr automates the downloads, while Ombi automates the requests from user to *Arr. I hope I explained it right and clear.
>Considering OP has two installed on one machine is that advisable/supported by them?
You can install all *arr services (Radarr, Sonarr, Lidarr, Readarr) in one machine. If you watch a lot, I recommend to try them out!
I've only used Sonarr, Radarr, and Ombi.
I would also add Ombi to this list. Adding a media to your Plex server becomes super easy once you've linked all those tools together, using Ombi!
Simply go to your Ombi, type your movie's name or TV show's name and click "add". You're done!
I also hope you are password protecting your sonarr/Radarr instances if you are exposing them to the internet. Personally, I keep those internal since only I’m signing into them (if I need to get into them while I’m away I can use a VPN). Then just expose something like ombi for external users
@throwawayPHIRE ,
I think you may want to look into Ombi and go down the rabbit hole of all the other services it supports. That will give you a service that friends and family can make requests with, and assuming you set everything else up right, the rest is basically automated.
Going further, if you want to centrally manage user accounts, dive into running a local OpenLDAP instance, tie Emby to that (using an Emby premium plugin), then tie Ombi to Emby. It works well for me anyway.
I discovered that everytime I send a password reset, when the link gets clicked or when I log into the ombi app, the Application URL adds token information to the end of the URL.
Before reset link - https://ombi.io
After reset link - https://ombi.io/token?token=
As an example
I'm unsure so far as to how to prevent this from happening
Yeah, I know that it sounds pretty ridiculous. It's mostly movies, tv shows, books, graphic novels/comics, and music. I generally try to source high quality content where possible.
I do consume the content, but over time, so I like to have it available. I also share all of the content with ~10 family members and I've set a few of them up with Ombi accounts, so a lot of times the stuff that's being downloaded isn't even for me.
As /u/ragtev pointed out, increasing my download speed would be nice, but I'd much rather get a respectable upload speed if any of the providers so wish to make it available. As far as I know, the 35 Mb up with this Spectrum plan I'm looking at is the fastest that's available to me.
Yes, Thank you. I went to ombi.io and clicked "download".Which then took me to GitHub. I downloaded the mac link (OSX.tar.gz) to my MacBook, and that's it. I renamed the file "ombi" (because I read somewhere to do that) but that's as far as I got. I tried to do some other stuff, using my "terminal" and trying to get to it to open the file and execute it, but nothing. That's all I've got.
Ah right okay! Cheers for the clarrification.
Would there be any scope to be able to define a specific image to appear in that location, rather than the image in the customisation settings?
Reasoning, I've got a banner style logo like this set up currently.
I've got a seperate icon style logo set up as the website favicon (Also the same icon style logo I've got set up for the email profile) and would like to use for profile image replacement - Along the same lines as this.
Rather than having my larger banner style logo shrunk down to the same size as the current profile image displayed.
Check OMBI out. It's for people who share, but can also be set up for something similar to what you mention. It works together with Plex, sonarr, radarr, and your torrent client to give you cover-based search. https://ombi.io/
Anytime something I watch frequently goes off of Netflix or Hulu (even if the other is picking it up) I just download it because I'm tired of all the crappy interfaces Netflix and Hulu keep pushing down our throats. If you have multiple users or even just for yourself take a look at ombi and tautulli
Safe how? I mean if you're doing it while driving it's probably not very safe, but other than that, there's really nothing to worry about.
If you want something more automated, check out Ombi
https://ombi.io/. Click the Demo button.
You're delivering (likely) illegal content across (likely) state/country lines and you're unwilling force them to use a VPN. That isn't smart. Using a VPN isn't hard. Double-clink installer, enter IP/URL, username, and password.
> I add my shows to Sonarr
you should try "ombi" (not related to emby, although i use that too) - self hosted/open source/free - not a shill
all it does is searches for new movies/tv shows/music via sonarr/radarr/lidarr, from the one interface, has a mobile app for both ios and android
has features like votes (need at least N users to request a movie before its downloaded),
approval (give your toddler an account, nothing they ask for is downloaded until your account says "yes, thats ok")
(i gave my parents access to ombi, so they can request stuff for the media server, i wouldnt trust them with access to sonarr/radarr)
just try the demo at https://demo.ombi.io (username is "demo")
Also, check out ombi which will allow yourself and your users to request content for the server. These requests are forwarded to Radarr/Sonarr/Lidarr which will automatically download the content (if found).
