Hey everyone! In addition to the Capture The Flag event we're having tomorrow (Wednesday), we're also playing Soccer on Saturday!
The goal is to play from 10:00 - 12:00, then go watch the Madrid v Liverpool game at Christy's.
Everyone's welcome to come play as long your main goal is to have a good time. We basically just don't want anyone going full Bradley Cooper from Wedding Crashers.
I'm aiming to do an event or two every week until it gets unbearably cold outside. If you can't make anything this week, but want to hear about what we have in the works, here's what you can do:
Hope to see y'all on the field!

There is a game in a couple of hours. This will be my first match as well. Which part of the city are you in? If you are near the Cumberland mall, we can play at Jonquil Park in the weekends.
I saw you you posted in r/chicago. if you are still in chicago, the three main leagues (CFRS, Sports and Social and Players sports) make teams for individuals that sign up. CFRS also uses Opensports where they post request for subs. https://opensports.net/@cfrs/events
If you are able to pay, most teams would accept you.
I don't know if either of you are into sports, but I'm spinning up a recreational sports league that looks more like a gym class (different sports) than one league playing soccer for a few months straight.
It's more focused on fun than competitiveness and we'd love to have you come hang out!
Hey there! I don't know what's going on that's specifically volleyball, but I'm trying to start up the New Haven Nerd League where we get people together once or twice a week to just play sports for fun. We're planning a few volleyball events for the summer and we'd love to have you.
Just head over here (and download the app if you're on mobile) then sign up for our New Haven Nerd League group on OpenSports. We'll be posting all of our events there and I'll be sure to invite you to our future events.
When the vaccine starts getting more widely given and it gets safer, I plan on bringing the New Haven Nerd League back to life.
It's a group of folks that does different pickup sports every week or so. Basketball will definitely be in the rotation.
There is pick up soccer on opensports.net every week for anyone who wants to play regardless of gender, age, or skill level. Due to COVID, you have to reserve a spot and reservations are on a first come first served basis. It is free to play though.

If she’s looking for a league, have her go to versussports.net and contact them. They’ll try to find her a team.
Edit: Since it seems like a lot of people are going to Christy's REALLY early for the match, we'll be playing from 10:00 to 12:00, NOT the initially advertised 12:00 to 2:00.

Chicago Fire Rec Soccer has pickups, not free though. I don't know what it's like now, but outside of COVID you can also get on their sub list and sub for free where needed.

I'm going to go here for the firs time today!
You trying to do handball or netball?
I (occasionally) run a group called New Haven Nerd League - where we get folks together once a week in the warmer months for some low stakes pick up games. We have jerseys, flags, balls, and stuff. I'd be more than down to do a handball week this year.
Edit: Join here, and it should ping you when I start setting things up: https://opensports.net/@NewHavenNerdLeague
If you are interested in soccer subbing or pickup look at https://opensports.net/@cfrs . If you're flexible on leagues/days I think you may also be able to join a team as a single through CFRS when the next season starts.
Hey /u/Mlujan90! I'm actually looking at spinning the New Haven Nerd League up again!
Basically just one or two get togethers a week that are just random pickup games. Sometimes soccer, sometimes ultimate, sometimes capture the flag. Just an excuse to get some people together and exercise! The page that ^^ links to should have a button at the bottom of the page to download OpenSports on iOS/Android. Gonna start planning some stuff soon.
Hi Everyone, here is the link to join an event I created. The location is temporary for now. I didn't create a meet up cos its paid to do so but can if we decide to.
Commented/pm'ed people cos dont know gow to inform people of the link.

Round three!
We're trying to get together a group of fun seeking people for a semi competitive game of dodgeball. I know we all played different versions of dodgeball growing up, so we'll be playing a few different versions on Tuesday. Full disclaimer: we're using actual playground balls; not gator skin ones.
We'll meet up at the basketball court near the playground and baseball fields at the south end of English Drive in East Rock Park.
The New Haven Nerd League's guiding principle is just "don't be a jerk." We want to get a group together once or twice a week to build a community around fun based (rather than competitive) recreational sports. Everyone is more than welcome to come play as long your main goal is to have a good time. We basically just don't want anyone going full Bradley Cooper from Wedding Crashers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IGZG_HhC0o).
If you're interested in hearing about future events, go ahead and join the New Haven Nerd League OpenSports group (https://opensports.net/@NewHavenNerdLeague). We'll be sure to throw you invitations to anything and everything we do going forward!
